It's such a dilemma to post about a great sushi restaurant because you don't want to have the pain of waiting for a table once it catches on. Kaiki Sushi deserves every one of the five stars it's been given. Every single piece of fish was plentiful, the taste excellent and the presentation beautiful. Every request was accommodated without issue and every piece of sushi and creative roll was flawlessly prepared. In an area that is overrun with sushi restaurants to find one that you can't wait to return to is a gift. Young brings an energy to her restaurant that is rare to find and shows that caring about what you do matters.

We stumbled upon this place because we were in the area and craving sushi. The reviews seemed good and so we checked it out - the reviews are all so true!!! This is a new spot with delicious food! We met the owner, Young I believe, who was truly the sweetest and kindest person. She was very attentive and you can tell she's passionate about her restaurant! We were so well taken care of and loved everything. The zen roll was my personal favorite. One thing to note, they do mix their non spicy crab with mayo in the dragon(?) roll. I'm not a fan, but my dinner companion was! We will absolutely be returning and I have no doubt people will love this new sushi spot. The playlist was also very fun!

In an office style building, with office style parking lot is this sushi spot that you can not miss! This gem has truly the the best sushi /customer service and decor that Sherman Oaks has to offer. The items are well priced, the customer service makes you feel at home and the decor and setup is an amazing experience. The little details and the options are amazing! I would recommend this spot for a cute date, family outing and any experience that involves people. This spot is the best and you'll enjoy every bite! 10/10, come here and come back, I know I will! A gem you don't want to sleep on!

EVERYTHING went beyond well!! From the warm yet sincere greeting from Young, my server to the super-savory Toro Trio, fresh & tantalizing Pink Scallops Sashimi, Ikura (roe) that was NOT at all salty like all other sushi places, to the bold yet pleasing-to-the-eye, modern interior, though this eatery is only four months old, and though this was my very first time dining here based on other outstanding and convincing Yelp reviews, I DEFINITELY will be returning quite frequently (I reside in Los Angeles, but Kaiki Sushi is well worth the drive) by myself AND with others!!

Amazing experience at Kaiki Sushi! The food was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every bite was spot on. The service truly made the night special. Yong took such great care of us and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. She has incredible positive energy, always smiling, genuinely funny, and so friendly--it made the whole experience even better. Great food, great vibes, and outstanding service. We'll definitely be back and recommending this place to friends!

Honestly, this is one of my favorite sushi place in Van Nuys! When I first came here, As soon as I walked into the restaurant, the lush green natural surroundings, warm atmosphere and vintage looking decorations immediately stood out. It was definitely a vibe! Their sushi honestly tasted very fresh and light. It is not overly mixed with rice which is perfect. The seasoning makes every bite so good, truly.

The food was delicious and most beautifully arranged and the service was amazing. We appreciate the special attention that Young gave us. We will definitely be back again since there were a lot of other menu items we want to try. The decor is super cute too.

I've now frequented this place enough times to give my honest review and I am in-love. I highly recommend you try it out too. Very clean. Uber friendly customer service. Prices are moderately reasonable for sushi. And THE SUSHI IS TASTY & FRESH.

What a gem!! This husband-and-wife sushi spot is something special. The sushi is incredibly fresh! Melt-in-your-mouth, beautifully prepared, and clearly made with so much care. You can taste the quality immediately. And the housemade soy sauce -- WOW. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. It elevates every single bite!! Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. The whole experience feels intimate and thoughtfully curated. So grateful we found this place -- I'll absolutely be back!!

New sushi spot is AMAZING! Everything was so fresh, flavors were incredible and they were so nice in there! I got the takoyaki, yellowtail sushi and the lemon roll, I ate it so fast and wish I got another roll or 2 to try but I'll just have to come back :

Just as importantly, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. A special shout-out to the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which has somehow become a mandatory order every time we visit. Dojo isn't so much a hidden gem as it is a jewel on Ventura Blvd. On a nice evening, the patio feels like a little oasis, with great food, great people-watching, and an atmosphere that keeps us coming back year after year. Seven years later, it's still one of our favorite spots.

The cut felt sloppy, and there was even a bone present, which made it hard to enjoy at all. More concerning than presentation was the overall freshness -- it had that slightly off, fishy edge that you just don't want when you're ordering salmon, especially if you normally love it. On the brighter side, the Hubba Hubba roll actually delivered. Balanced, flavorful, and easily the best thing we ordered. That said, the experience took a weird turn when the waitress cleared the plate while we were still actively eating from it. It felt rushed and a bit dismissive, especially for a restaurant at this price point. The vegetable gyoza was an easy skip. Dense, difficult to bite through, and oddly bland -- not much else to say there. The Big Daddy Roll and 911 Roll were fine, but nothing stood out. The fish didn't taste especially fresh, the rice felt a little past its prime, and overall everything leaned more "okay sushi night" than anything memorable. At the end of the meal, I just wasn't convinced. Between the inconsistency in freshness, a couple execution issues, and the pacing of service, I'm not sure I'd return -- especially given the price. One good roll in an otherwise uneven experience isn't quite enough to bring me back, but I'd be curious if this was an off night or just the norm. Casual spot with premium pricing.

Each plate looked like a piece of art--everything was neatly arranged, balanced in color, and visually inviting. The sushi itself was beautifully plated. The fish had a fresh, vibrant shine, and the cuts were clean and precise. Garnishes like such as microgreens, and wasabi were placed thoughtfully, not just for decoration but to complement the dish. Even the simplest rolls looked elegant, with tight, uniform shapes and a nice contrast between ingredients. Overall, Sushi Zen Toro delivers both in flavor and presentation. The Yuzu Hirame was too creamy & weird for me, but again, my hubby liked it. I grew up with boring plain sashimi so I guess my palate is old LOL. Chicken teri lunch was a good portion & my husband enjoyed his sashimi lunch. The one downside was the miso soup. Guys, if this is an upscale restaurant you gotta COOK your miso soup. As a Japanese raised in Japan I was shocked to get re-heated soup with cold tofu & instant seaweed. I mean, what? Come on. Let's COOK all the ingredients. And no "grow-in-the-water" seaweed. Let's get the real stuff.

No. This isn't that kind of place, and Taisho doesn't have that kind of menu. However, is this a good place to listen to decent music, sip a fun cocktail, and pass around some aesthetic Asian fusion dishes? Absolutely. It's a vibe on the weekends, there's semi-patio seating in the back, and there's valet parking right out front on Ventura Blvd. Taisho is a good option for dinner before a night out, or to catch up with a friend. Seating options are plentiful, too. The bar area is nice, the seats are comfy. The interior can fill up during peak hours. The outside seating in the front is a hard pass for me because it's so close to the street and seems isolated from the rest, but some people do prefer to sit out there. Street parking is available albeit competitive. Don't forget to pay the meter and check posted signs.

Yes, we loved the hand rolls but I HAVE to shout out the fish bone broth miso soup. Wow. I loved it SO much I would come back and just get a bunch of it to-go on a cold day or when I'm feeling under the weather. The broth was SO flavorful it blew my mind. I definitely recommend you try it! My husband and I both got the Xtra Medium and it was a lot of food! At first I thought it was funny that there are no plates, but it kind of works here. The chef makes your hand rolls at the bar and just walks over and hands them to you. No frills, just great fish. The Xtra Medium came with lean tuna, fatty tuna, steelhead salmon, whitefish, prawn and a special. The salmon was incredible. The whitefish was snapper and it was incredible. It might have been my favorite! The prawn handroll had a really neat sweet flavor and the special was a crunchy crab with shiso leaf. I loved how the progression of the rolls seemed so well thought out, it was like a full flavor journey. They have some alcoholic bevvys too! I was always hesitant to check this handroll bar out because it didn't seem like an actual restaurant, but it's a true hidden gem! Definitely a place to take someone you are looking to impress!

You got a dry-aged fish market, handroll bar, a Japanese specialty market, and a coffee/tea shop. Two of us went around 7pm and the restaurant was nearly empty, maybe six other guests total. We both ordered from the medium or extra medium hand roll sets. The fish quality was solid, which is the most important thing, but some of the flavor combinations felt a little unbalanced. The bigger issue was how long everything took. The restaurant was practically empty and yet the wait was still really significant. The reason is simple: there is only one chef making all the hand rolls for the whole restaurant. When that is your entire menu and you only have one person executing it, the math just does not work, even on a slow night. It turns what should be a fun, relaxed dining experience into a lot of sitting around and waiting. One more thing worth mentioning, avoid the matcha. They leave it sitting out in direct sunlight which causes it to oxidize and the flavor suffers significantly for it. I think with another chef on the line and a clearer sense of direction this place could be really special. For now though it is a spot with a lot of promise that has not quite found its footing yet. Also parking sucks.
