    Jalapeno Poppers Dragon roll
    Danielle C.

Unfortunately oh oh sushi closed down the street from me and I needed a new spot that delivers. They don't have delivery but they are on Uber so I tried them out and was pleasantly surprised by their presentation. From their bag, to their box, to the rolls themselves. My eyes like to eat too you know? lol Everything was good. I was not a super fan of their rice texture so in the future I may not be ordering anything with rice in it. Dragon roll also is not with imitation crab which I preferred my sister did not as she doesn't eat raw fish. They do offer substitutes which is great (another plus!) I'm not a fan of sesame on my sushi for some reason. Jalapeños were breaded not tempura battered but they were still bomb. Overall well earned 5 stars. Fish was fresh, I would definitely eat here again.

Calamari SUPER FRESH & perfect light crispy hot batter. I'll come back just for this item.

Hands down one of the best calamaris I've ever had. The batter was simple, super crispy, thin, it complimented the squid perfectly. Cucumber salad was also a hit. I want to try their fried tofu next time, and definitely the other menu items. The lemon roll was good but a little wet for me, I also didn't like the batter they used on the tempura as it was too thick- I would like it if it were closer to the calamari batter. The spider roll was great, however I didn't like the batter for the soft shell crab, it was too thick wish it was like the calamari batter. Ambience is beautiful, very Japanese and clean, organized. The service was fantastic, wish they would take away some dishes progressively throughout the dining experience. Staff is just overall very welcoming and cool. Parking lot is a little tight, but I think there's more parking in the back. Glad we got to dine in, for sure coming back. Highly recommend.

Absolutely Amazing! Traveled from Echo Park to just try this place from seeing it on IG. The service was fast and the staff very pleasant and attentive. The dishes we tried were wonderfully presented and the flavors were fresh and refreshing with this heat. I would definitely go Back. When we went in it was primarily empty since it was only 12 noon but we definitely brought in the energy. More people started coming. The ambiance and decor is very nice and clean. Definitely must try the ceviche salad !

This place was amazing! Super glad we found it on our trip to LA. They only just opened a few months ago and I hope they stay open. The staff was very friendly, it was clean inside, the food came out timely and beautifully. Everything we ate was very good and fresh. We wish we could eat here more but won't have time before we leave sadly. We will definitely recommend to others though who come to visit. Even their Togo box for the sushi looks super neat and fancy.

Creme Brulee...it's ok, taste like pudding. I like thick and creamy. I'll be trying the Pistacio Gelato next!

A definite try! I'm all about my Japanese restaurants! I'm super picky...freshness is key! This is a definite spot to try! Nathan provided the best service ever, was very outgoing and attentative and the ambiance is very kyoote! We'll definitely be back to try more items!

Stopped by Kaiyu Sushi on my way to Valencia and had a great experience. The fish was very fresh, but what stood out most were the details--the pickled ginger was balanced and refreshing, the fresh wasabi was excellent, and the rice was prepared perfectly. I ordered the Hoshi set and enjoyed every piece. Looking forward to coming back (hopefully by that time they will get the liquor license too) The servers were polite and the ambiance was nice.

Found Kaiyu on a whim to divert from 405 rush hour traffic and glad we did. Excellent sushi and atmosphere with helpful service. A unique roll that I hadn't had elsewhere was all fish with truffle ninja which was quite scrumptious. Loved the above average rainbow roll and partner enjoyed the bento. For dessert had a refreshing mango mochi. Worth a repeat visit!

I had a wonderful experience, and Chloe was especially helpful! She was friendly, professional, and very easy to communicate with. She took the time to listen to what I was looking for, answered my questions clearly, and made thoughtful recommendations based on my individual needs and preferences. I really appreciated how she didn't just give the same recommendation to everyone she genuinely tried to customize her suggestions to what would work best for each person. Chloe was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience comfortable and easy. Excellent customer service! I would definitely recommend asking for Chloe if you visit. She truly goes above and beyond to help her customers!

Came here with my bestie for some lunch before a beach day. The staff is so friendly! The menu is large and has a wide array of options! They have some new and creative roles that I've never seen before and the presentation of everything is absolutely beautiful. We had hot saki and it came out in a beautiful container that was heated with a tea light candle. 10/10 will be back!

Oyster Bay Sauv blanc from New Zealand pairs well with sushi!

This evening, we came back home from parasailing in Long Beach. My wife discovered this gem on the way home on the Yelp! app. Kaiyu's ambiance transports you to Japan and makes you forget you are in Van Nuys! The service was amazing and attentive. The sushi was top notch, fresh & delicious. We ordered the crunchy scallop CA roll, the ultimate salmon roll, and spicy tuna crispy rice. We also took advantage of their newly acquired beer and wine license and paired a bottle of Oyster Bay sauv blanc with dinner. It was a great experience. We will be back soon!

Pretty solid place new sushi restaurant in Van Nuys. We came here on a Friday night with my son around 6pm and we seated right away. Since it was a new place we didn't wanted to go over board ordering. So the three of us order our own sets and one roll to share. My son ordered the Hachi Sushi Set, it comes with 10pc sushi and salmon cut roll. It was solid and fresh. Fish to rice ratio was perfect. My wife ordered the 2 items Bento, Spicy Tuna Roll and Mix Tempura. She enjoyed it. I got the Premium Chirashi- Every fish was fresh and nicely cut except for the Uni. That wasn't fresh at all. It had a bad taste. Lemon Tail Roll- The roll was good. Service was fantastic and very friendly. Overall, Kaiyu Sushi is solid and I would definitely return. Until my next visit.

Ambiance here includes dimmed lights, very clean and organized. They hablve nice booths and tables to accommodate guests. Sushi bar also has seats and front view of the chefs cooking. The prices are reasonable here and the sushi is fresh. They currently have a promotion where you dine in and you buy one roll get the second half off. I really wanted to try the Wagyu asada so I ordered it. The slices are very rich like butter, in each bite. It can be overwhelming if you are not used to this. The guacamole was delicious and paired up well with the asada slices. The mini asparagus was cute and tasty as well. 5/5 I order another fresh roll: the rainbow roll You can taste the quality of the fish this roll has. They are: tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail and shrimp. Each bite was a mouthful for me. The presentation of this roll is beautiful. Each fish add its own pop of color. 5/5 The Lemon Tail roll was the last one: it included spicy tuna and shrimp tempura, yellow tail, and yellow tail ceviche in the middle. This was one had a touch of spicy to it, the sliced Jalapeños gave it a nice kick but hot! so be careful. 5/5 The classic thai iced tea 5/5! Refreshing, not too sweet, delicious and paired up well with my dinner. Overall, a great experience dining in and will come back soon.

Visiting LA and my daughter took us to a cute little spot with really good food. Everything was reasonably priced and nice presentation. Got there before 5 and was seated right away...it got busy when we were leaving. They're currently running a special buy one sushi roll and get 50% off on the second. So glad we tried this place & will definitely be back!

I ordered the chicken strips with fries, while my partner ordered a two-piece chicken dinner with macaroni salad and spicy rice. Although we had to wait a little while for the food, it arrived hot. We both agreed that it was some of the best fast-food fried chicken we had ever eaten. The chicken was moist and the batter was crispy. My fries were good, and my partner's macaroni salad and spicy rice were both flavorful. We especially loved the biscuit. I also couldn't help noticing that although the dining room feels like something of a relic, it is very well maintained. There were no dirty tables and no trash on the floor. I was genuinely shocked when the cashier came out to ask how everything was and whether we needed anything else. Most fast-food chains seem determined to eliminate as much human interaction as possible. Pioneer Chicken was a refreshing reminder that fast food can still be friendly, clean and satisfying. The kind of spot where you walk in and immediately think, Yep... this is where you bring someone you're trying to impress. The ambience hits that perfect balance of modern, moody, and stylish, a little sexy, a little artsy, and fully date‑night certified. Service was on point the entire night, for my experience, maybe cause they know I was was going to tip very heavily. Ha ha ha. Which ai did by the way! Staff was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being pretentious. The team here knows the menu inside and out, and they guide you like they're curating an experience rather than just taking an order. Drinks topped off, plates cleared smoothly, pacing perfect. High‑end feel without the high‑end attitude. Let's talk about the food. Filipino Fusion Done With Swagger Ribeye Salpicao, This dish is straight-up dangerous. Tender ribeye cubes seared with garlicky, buttery goodness, the kind of salpicao that makes you rethink every bite you have. Rich, savory, and addicting. If you don't guard your plate, someone at the table will steal a piece. "Because I know I would!" Rockfish Pritong, it was crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and seasoned like someone's Filipino auntie whispered the secrets of life into the batter. Bright, punchy flavors with that perfect crunch. Definitely a sleeper hit. Crispy Duck Pancit, This one is wild, pancit with a crispy duck twist that somehow feels both comforting and elevated. The noodles soak up all that savory duck richness, and the crispy skin on top. Wow, a moment of silence for how good that bite is. Papaya Salad, so fresh, bright, and refreshing. A perfect palate reset between the heavier dishes. Crunchy, citrusy, and balanced, the kind of salad that actually earns its spot on the table. Grilled Eggplant Salad, smoky, silky eggplant with a char that tastes like it came straight off a backyard grill in Manila. Light but flavorful, and a great contrast to the richer plates. Pasta Palabok, a true Filipino classic reimagined. Creamy, savory palabok sauce wrapped around pasta instead of noodles, bold move, but it works. The textures are luxurious, and the flavors stay true to the original. Tare Tare Tamale, definitely one of the most creative dishes of the night. A fusion tamale with tare flavors that hit sweet, salty, and umami all at once. Soft masa, rich filling, and a flavor combo that makes you pause mid‑bite. "Mmmm hmmm!" Hamachi, so clean, fresh, and beautifully plated. The kind of hamachi that melts instantly and makes you feel fancy even if you're wearing sneakers. Of course I had my dress shoes on. It has bright citrus notes and just the right amount of heat. Sampa nails the high‑end, artsy vibe without feeling stiff. Trendy lighting, modern décor, and a soundtrack that keeps the energy fun. Perfect for date night, anniversaries, or when you want to look like you know the cool spots in LA. Sampa is Filipino fusion with confidence, bold flavors, gorgeous plating, and an atmosphere that elevates the whole night. If you're trying to impress your significant other, celebrate something special, or just treat yourself to a killer meal in the Arts District, this place delivers. Grilled escabeche white fish: the fish is moist with crispy skin. Ribeye is melt in my mouth. For desert, panna cotta is a.perfect ending of a beautiful dinner. Every dish.is beautifully presented. The service is impeccable. There is paid parking across from the restaurant for $10. It is probably one of the best meal we had this year.
