We've been coming here for about seven years, and Dojo Sushi has never let us down. The fish is consistently excellent, the menu has enough variety to keep everyone in the family happy, and the value is surprisingly good for a family night out. Just as importantly, the staff is always friendly and welcoming. A special shout-out to the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which has somehow become a mandatory order every time we visit. Dojo isn't so much a hidden gem as it is a jewel on Ventura Blvd. On a nice evening, the patio feels like a little oasis, with great food, great people-watching, and an atmosphere that keeps us coming back year after year. Came in with high hopes and a serious sushi craving, left with a pretty mixed impression that I can't really ignore. The orange salmon sashimi was unfortunately a miss. The cut felt sloppy, and there was even a bone present, which made it hard to enjoy at all. More concerning than presentation was the overall freshness -- it had that slightly off, fishy edge that you just don't want when you're ordering salmon, especially if you normally love it. On the brighter side, the Hubba Hubba roll actually delivered. Balanced, flavorful, and easily the best thing we ordered. That said, the experience took a weird turn when the waitress cleared the plate while we were still actively eating from it. It felt rushed and a bit dismissive, especially for a restaurant at this price point. The vegetable gyoza was an easy skip. Dense, difficult to bite through, and oddly bland -- not much else to say there. The Big Daddy Roll and 911 Roll were fine, but nothing stood out. The fish didn't taste especially fresh, the rice felt a little past its prime, and overall everything leaned more "okay sushi night" than anything memorable. At the end of the meal, I just wasn't convinced. Between the inconsistency in freshness, a couple execution issues, and the pacing of service, I'm not sure I'd return -- especially given the price. One good roll in an otherwise uneven experience isn't quite enough to bring me back, but I'd be curious if this was an off night or just the norm. Casual spot with premium pricing. read more

I had one of the worst sushi experiences of my life at Dojo Sushi. When I first arrived, there were plenty of open tables, yet it took the host about 15 minutes to acknowledge me and take my order. The service was slow from the very beginning. The food was even worse. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, baked salmon roll, and the half-and-half crispy rice with tuna and crab. The fish smelled bad and tasted far from fresh. I've eaten sushi at many different restaurants, and I have never had sushi that tasted like this. There were barely any fresh vegetables in the rolls, and the overall quality was extremely disappointing. The crispy rice was not good either, and every dish that came out made me regret spending money here. The fishy smell alone was enough to ruin the meal. I honestly can't say enough about how bad this experience was. Between the poor service and the low-quality food, this was by far the worst sushi restaurant I've visited. Dojo Sushi is a cute spot in Sherman Oaks that serves your favorite traditional sushi options along with specialty rolls. They also have all the standard appetizers and sashimi options that we all know and love. My son and I walked in here for a late lunch today around 4:20pm. We were greeted and seated by Emmanuel. After looking over the menu for a few minutes, he took our order. For our appetizers, we got the Garlic Edamame ($6) and Chicken Gyoza, 4pc ($7). The gyoza was delicious, hot and fresh from the fryer, however the edamame wasn't as garlicky as we had hoped, even though it was still good. I also opted for the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Plate ($24), which came with Miso Soup, Garden Salad, Assorted Tempura, and Steamed Rice. The chicken was a bit dry and overcooked and the salad dressing wasn't too flavorful, otherwise everything else was good. The soup was very yummy and the perfect temperature. It's a good portion for the price. My son just ate from the selection of sushi we got, which were the Cut Spicy Tuna Roll ($11), Oaks Crunch Roll ($22) and Shrimp Double Roll ($22). They each had shrimp tempura, crab, eel, avocado, eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc..both were delicious and extremely fresh. The Spicy Tuna was my favorite and definitely hit the mark. The place was very clean/inviting and they have one gender neutral bathroom that was also very clean. The parking lot is shared with many other business in the plaza. I came here with a friend pretty late on a weekday night, since we were both craving sushi and thankfully they were open pretty late. It was easy to find, located by Ventura blvd inside the small shopping center of El Torito and a bunch of other restaurants and cafes. Parking was also super easy since it was late (I've come during the day and that lot can be a struggle!). We were greeted as soon as we entered by the friendly staff and guided to a seat at the bar. The ambiance was lovely and felt peaceful and tranquil. I really liked their decor and the seating was comfy. My friend got the miso soup and offered me some, but unfortunately there's fish in it so I wasn't able to eat it. She really enjoyed it and said it was comforting and flavorful. I got the veggie gyoza which had a great soft texture and well cooked and seasoned veggies inside. The sauce accompanying it gave it a nice tang. My friend also ordered the avocado rolls so I was able to try that and really loved the texture of the rolls as well as the creaminess and freshness of the avocados inside. They gave us plenty of ginger and wasabi to put on top! I appreciate how they have several vegan options and would definitely return to try more! read more

The wife and I were looking a new place to try out and we randomly came across dojo Sushi. It's a small, quiet place and they seated us fairly quickly. The staff were very friendly and quick with the service. The place was clean but had an interesting smell to it. The sushi was pretty darn good. The fish were fresh, the rolls were tasty and the sauces paired well with the rolls. The one thing we didn't quite enjoy was the soy roll, it wasn't bad just not the greatest. The price is on the higher side, we paid $150 bucks for 2 people with no alcohol. We would definitely come back if ever in the area but not necessarily go out of our way for it. read more

We had such a great experience at Doja Sushi! We started with the edamame, spicy tuna on crispy rice, and the Brussels sprouts--everything was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to kick off the meal. For rolls, we tried the salmon lime roll, 911 tuna roll, huba huba roll, and the big daddy roll! Every single one was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. Honestly, it was hard to pick a favorite because they were all so good. The service was great, and the food came out quickly without feeling rushed. Dojo Sushi, thanks for having me! This chic little big sushi bar restaurant in Sherman Oaks, resides on Ventura Blvd in a huge shared lot with plenty of cool neighboring spots including UbaTuba Acai, New York Bagel Cafe, VeStation and El Torito to name a few. D.S. is open from 11:30 am to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and until Midnight on Fridays as well as Saturdays. You can luck into parking in the lot, but don't be afraid to nab some local street (meter) parking if you see it, especially on weekends and for dinner time. Popped in with a special friend visiting from out of town for lunch and loved the feel from the moment you walk up. Their patio is very open yet intimate, much like the inside and everything looks just as great (if not more so) at night. We sat at the bar as there was plenty of seating and you usually get things quicker. Our server was attentive and personable as was the other server we interacted with. My friend had the seawood salad with an eel based roll. I had the veggie gyoza, truffle edamame and an avocado roll. We both had variations of their Iced Teas (Raspberry for me). Everything was enjoyable for sure, but nothing really left a super lasting impression, but the truffle-mame was pretty unique and flavorful. I'd eaten here once before on the patio a few years after they first opened in 2015 and thought it was okay then too. They sort of mixed up our orders when bringing and/or handing things out, but not a big deal. I guess my buddy looks more like a veggie than I do. He ended up with a small handful of my rolls neither of us realizing right away until his came out a few minutes later. Overall a pretty good experience. Nice music, good lunch crowd, but not overly busy, tvs for entertainment, clean everything! They do serve beer and wine, including sake. So many teas, plus lemonades and water. Bento Boxes and lunch specials are thoughtful, though I couldn't personally partake with the exception of the steps 1-3 of 5 for Dojo's Build Your Own Boxes/Bentos. Wi-Fi is available upon request. As weird as it sounds most places don't make the cucumber salad to my liking, but this place has it perfect. Husband had the salmon lime, Philadelphia, and baked salmon rolls. I always drive by this spot and I'm so glad I finally decided to stop by and check them out. This is my new favorite sushi spot in the valley--great food, good vibes, and amazing service. My husband and I ordered it all: hot sake, miso soup, Spicy garlic edamame, Brussel sprouts, Salmon lime roll, Spicy rice tuna, Soft shell crab, Dodgers roll (not on the menu), Salmon collar, Albacore belly, halibut, and king salmon sashimi, Baked crab hand roll, Special lobster roll , Yellowtail and jalapeño sashimi, Mio sparkling sake, and Green tea tempura ice cream. Everything was sooo fresh and delicious. I have to say my favorites were the sparkling sake, Brussel sprouts, Dodgers roll, all of the sashimi, baked crab hand roll, special lobster roll, and green tea tempura ice cream. Tommy the sushi chef recommended and made us the best dishes and Air was a fantastic server. My most recent visits to Dojo have been disappointing in comparison to my past experiences, and I'm sorry to say this venerable sushi spot seems to be declining. The last time I was there, we were seated with a sushi chef who was preoccupied with some personal matter -- he ignored us, and was quite literally mumbling under his breath to himself the entire meal. One must be kind, and we never know what another person is going through, so I posted no review -- but tonight, we were seated with an appropriately attentive chef, and the deficiencies really showed. To begin, the chef declined to make spicy tuna without mayo for my wife who dislikes mayo with a passion (she tries not to even be in the same city as a jar of Kewpie). Almost every sushi place in town will make a quick, bespoke order of no-mayo spicy tuna, so this seemed a tad unaccommodating. My wife ordered regular Blue Fin Tuna sushi instead, and said it was very good. I started with the 1/2 & 1/2 Crispy Rice, which has both spicy tuna and creamy crab, topped with avocado and a sliver of jalapeño. The rice cakes were properly crispy outside and chewy inside, but the tuna and crab salads on top had very little flavor. Blandness continued for me with an order of Toro, then an order of Japanese Mackerel (too rubbery as well). Unagi (eel) was served perfectly crispy as requested, but the pieces were very thin and, thus, also lacked flavor (there was not enough meat of the fish, so eating it was more about texture than flavor). I will say that an order of Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura was served hot and crispy, and had a good amount of flavor, while an avocado roll offered nothing to write home about. The staff is generally genial, and the decor is standard issue "SoCal Sushi Bar," which is fine. But with so many sushi places to choose from in the area, I don't know that we'll be going back to Dojo anytime soon. read more

Ordered delivery and it was 50% great and 50% meh, so I landed on four stars. The gyoza and the tuna crispy rice weren't great because they were obviously cold when they were delivered. Loved the tuna lemon roll, and the hubba hubba roll and the salmon lime roll was my favorite. They did forget to make one of my rolls with rice paper like I ordered which was a bummer. Spicy scallop roll was okay and I really liked the roe on the viper roll, but the rest of it didn't hit the mark for me. Maybe this is a spot best for dining in. If you haven't dined at Dojo Sushi, you're missing out. I know I was. It's been a Valley staple for many years and I can't believe this was my first time here. They have interior and patio dining, perfect for this summer weather. They're currently running a special menu that features bluefin tuna. I enjoyed sashimi and nigiri cuts of senaka, chu-toro, and o-toro. They also have a bluefin tuna tartare with ikura and caviar. This bluefin tuna menu was excellent! Everything was so good. I just loved their texture and flavor. From their regular menu, I tried their fish cake soup, savory corn cake, baked mussels, salmon lime roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The rolls were solid and I paired this with a crisp beer. I absolutely loved everything and can't wait to dine here again. read more

After checking in advance and seeing that the restaurant was listed as being open until 11:00 PM, we arrived at 10:20 PM. There were still customers dining inside, but we were told that the kitchen was already closed and that we could no longer order food. In reality, this means that the restaurant is not actually open for dining until 11:00 PM, as advertised. The kitchen closes at 10:00 PM. It is very important to clearly state the kitchen closing time, or the latest time at which customers can be seated and order food, rather than only listing the time when the doors close. Listing the restaurant as "open until 11:00 PM" when customers can no longer sit down and order food at 10:20 PM is misleading. If we had known this in advance, we would not have come, wasted time looking for parking, and missed the opportunity to go to another restaurant that was actually serving customers until 11:00 PM. Please update the operating hours on your website and other platforms to accurately reflect the last seating or kitchen closing time. Customers should not be misled into coming to the restaurant only to find out that they can no longer dine. read more

6/19/2025 - My daughter invited me to have Sushi dinner. Wow, this restaurant was open 10 years ago, and is situated at the KABOB VILLAGE with a shared free parking lot. I am impressed with the raw fish quality. The Brussels sprouts is so good - the taste of each leaf with sauce is just perfect - you may not be able to find this kind of appetizer easily because it requires an extra preparation by peeling each leaf without damage it after the cooking. The services are excellent, e.g., the minute I finished the ice tea, the GM asked the waiter to fill my glass, which indicates that the management is constantly looking for something to deliver the best service to customers whenever possible! read more

It's good for what it is, I think the place has become a little overhyped and while the food is still delicious, the service isn't as good as it was a few years ago (our waiter wasn't the friendliest) but as it's now really one of the only sushi spots left in Sherman Oaks it's still nice. Service is still bad, rude to customers they hang up the phone. They don't do delivery or like takeout order even with the apps and when they do they send you the shittiest Sushi ever. they fuck up your order every single time last time I ordered like $130 worth of sushi and they sent like two soy sauces with it when there's like eight items in the order and dirty wasabi not even wasabi. My mom and I came here for the first time after an event on Monday evening. The place was very clean and even in the late hours, there were multiple parties still outside by the heaters enjoying their meals. We only ordered a couple of rolls and some edamame as we didn't want to get too full before heading home to get to bed. Our sushi was good, but we must've asked for our edamame about two or three times before it was brought to us- practically at the end of our meal. A majority of the staff spoke broken English. This restaurant has become a regular spot for my friend and me. They're open late, which is perfect for us, and we almost always choose to sit on the patio. This is the second time in a spam of one month that I'm ordering from this restaurant by Postmates and they're forgetting one of my favorite roles I ordered on the app. it's not enough that you pay $28 a roll yet they consistently keep forgetting your order and when I called over the phone, some lady just picked up and gave me dead end responses and told me the manager is not available, and also they do not even offer to accommodate anything for you. She told me to just go on Postmates and request a refund with a dead end response. I'm highly dissatisfied with this restaurant. I will not be ordering from here again. read more

Ordered delivery on NYE for a nice way to celebrate without having to go out with kids under 4. Half of our order was delivered with the sushi toppled over and smooshed. The caviar and Uni toppings were completely off the sushi pieces. Can't blame the delivery driver because they were sent in cartons far too big for the sushi so was inevitable it would be delivered poorly. What did come right side up, the spicy tuna crust rice was soggy, dense and just not good. For $250 of sushi was totally underwhelmed. As a sushi lover, this place is pretty dang good! Not the best I've ever had but very solid. My favorites were the albacore sushi, the pink panther roll, and to my surprise, their Brussel sprouts. Albacore was like butter, pink panther roll was so flavorful with amazing textures, and the Brussel sprouts had an amazing crisp with a perfect charred taste.
