Mind you this is Kailua not town. For Chinese I never would consider eating in Kailua. Kailua House has me eating my words. Finally a restaurant that will not make me want to drive to town to eat chinese. It's not your typical local Cantonese or Hong Kong style. It's somewhere in between but the flavors are from what I've experienced on point. It's new ownership and the staff is attentive. The ambiance is old school, nothing fancy and who cannot love that old exterior. It's the food however that will keep me coming back. Thus far there is nothing I've tried that I didn't like. FYI: read other yelpers & it makes me wonder did we even eat at same restaurant. I'm as picky as they come. As for the needed interior facelift as realtors say needs tlc.

    Beware of cracked plates!

Sadly disappointing. My husband saw this place on Cheap Eats soon after it opened so I was excited to give it a try. I ordered the lunch plate to sample a variety: crispy fried chicken, beef & broccoli chow mein, kau yuk, crispy gau gee, white rice. Plus mango smoothie to drink. The service was slow and inattentive. In fact, I overheard the servers apologizing to a few people in the restaurant for delays and such since the place is under new ownership and working out a few issues. By the time my lunch arrived, it was cold. Our server hadn't provided utensils, napkins or asked if we needed anything else (like mustard). The gau gee was extra crispy (almost burned) but at least that was still warm and the meat inside flavorful. Sadly, the gau gee and the rice were the tastiest things on my plate. The beef was rubbery, the pork too sweet, noodles dry even though floating in sauce, and the broccoli tips soggy. Worst of all, after I tasted everything I realized there was a crack in my plate! Cracks in dishes are breeding grounds for bacteria that can contaminate food. Glad I didn't eat most of it. Even my mango smoothie was bland and didn't taste much like mango. I only drank half of it. The floor was dirty and the whole place looked like it could use a good scrubbing. And hey Cheap Eats, this place wasn't cheap either at $44 for two lunch plates with beverages. My friend didn't think the food was that bad and said she liked the noodles. She felt the place rated two stars instead of the one star I would give, maybe because she arrived much hungrier than me. My friend also took home my mostly uneaten meat for her dog. Maybe he won't be as disappointed as I was.

Amazing, Customer Service Amazing, Food Amazing!

Can't say enough wonderful things, dim sum, gau ghee, shrimp canton, bake manapua is awesome!

Second time here.... loved the egg tart and shrimp har gow.

Food is fresh and made to order. The friendly owner informed us that he will be opening early (8:30) in August for dim sum. Egg tarts for breakfast!

After being opened for a week I thought the food might be tasty. Boy, was I disappointed. First of all, there was not a single soul in there, and the phone didn't ring once while I was there. I decided to order a few different kinds of foods just to get an idea of what this place would be all about. The first thing I noticed is that the items are about $1-2 dollars more than the average restaurant. I ordered Won Ton Soup, Salt and Pepper Pork Chop, and Cold Ginger Chicken. The pork chop was overcooked and thrown in the container in a sloppy way (I guess presentation doesn't matter). The Ginger Chicken was sitting in oil with the ginger, and the onion was dry sitting atop the chicken. They did not grate the Ginger good as there were tons of that hairy stringy part everywhere. The soup was bland along with the vegetables, and I could literally drink the mustard straight out of the container because it was so watery. The floor was dull and dirty, and the chairs looked like it had loose fitting cloth. You would think that new owners might make things look clean and new. Well, I will stick to the Enchanted Lake Chinese Restaurant.

Shrimp dimsum and steamed char siu bao

Staff is super friendly and warm. Dining room is average but clean and tidy. Shrimp dimsum and steamed char siu bao are my favorites from here. I just tried their egg tarts today too and they are one of the best I've had!

My friend Gary T. digs da Chinese cuisine, so for pau hana Friday I decided to take my friend to Yen Yen Chinese Cuisine in the Kailua/Enchanted Lakes neighborhood. Yen Yen Chinese Cuisine is tucked away in a small strip mall, and the restaurant is kinda next door to the Safeway Supermarket. The restaurant reminds me of those old skool Chop Suey houses I used to go to when I was kid. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted & seated right away. Shortly afterwards, menus, hot tea, & water were dropped off at our table. While looking over the menu, we decided to get a fix meal for two ($59.00) which comprises of Egg Drop Soup, Fried Rice, Shrimp with Vegetables, & Spicy Eggplant with Pork. We also we ordered a separate dish of Shrimp Canton ($15.95) to add to our meal. What can I say about the grub? I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty our Chinese dishes were, as well as the generous portions of food. Easily a 5 star foodie experience, and I would be more than happy to come back to Yen Yen Chinese Cuisine try more new items.

I have a few go-to's that i must have when I just cannot bring myself to cook at home: house chop suey, house special fried rice (and I mix them together when I get home - soooooo good!!!), the steamed fish, or the "dinner plate for one." Affordable, delicious, and so easy to order for takeout. (Don't forget the rice cake and bag of shrimp chips on your way out!!) Plenty of tables to eat in - and they can easily accommodate large groups. Decent parking (if lot is full, there are spots on the other side of the ramen place!). Just like everything else in our sweet little Kailua, the restaurants are all facing increasingly expensive rents and costs. We will quickly lose all of our local kine treasures if we don't support them. Time for some yummy dinner!

We decided to eat here rather than take out, and being a day before NYE, they were busy with people placing and picking up orders for parties. Fortunately, there was a car just leaving the parking area, and one inside, there were only a couple of tables occupied, so we sat and were served pretty quickly. We shared one order of the House Special cake noodle, and an order of crispy pork. The food was good and tasty, as always, and there was still quite a bit to take home. We packed them in a couple of take out containers they provided, and we were done in less than 45 minutes. My favorites are the noodles, crispy gau gee, cold ginger chicken, moo shu pork, and their kau yuk pork with steamed buns. Just thinking about them now, makes me crave them and want to get some for lunch after New Year's day.

From the outside, it looks like any ol' storefront, but when you walk in, you have the counters where you can order for takeout, and to the left, you have tables for dining in. Sadly, they don't have the ladies pushing the dim sum carts around, but the service was fast! My husband and I ordered the typical dim sum items- shumai, har gow, rice rolls, wonton noodle soup, taro cake, and every table was gifted egg tarts! To our surprise, everything was made fresh and came out hot- the shrimps in the rice rolls and har gow were huge, and the shumai was about a little bigger than golf balls! My husband's eyes were huge when he saw them, and his immediate words were "omg, did we get a double order or is this one order?!" The shumai and har gow were nice and juicy when you bite into them, and the wontons were definitely made in-house by someone in the back. When you make a lot of wontons, you know that look that shows it was handmade! The rice rolls were delicious with the sweet soy sauce, the wonton noodle soup was delicious, and the taro cake reminded me of how my grandma used to make them. All in all, this is going to be a spot we visit again, and before heading out to the beach. So delicious, so fresh and just hits the spot!
