Noticed this restaurant a while ago but when it made the top 100 list, I finally made a point to go. The restaurant was larger than expected. We were seated quickly on a Saturday night. Menu was a good size and everyone sounded delicious. For appetizer we order the lumpia. They came out nice and hot and were yummy. For dinner I got the chicken adobo and my husband ordered the Bicol express. Both dishes were yummy and tasted fresh. We ordered flan to go for dessert. The restaurant's decor is fun. You will be seated and there is a server, so plan to take a breather and enjoy yourself. I was really on the mood for some chicken, and the chicken adobo came highly recommended from conversations that I've had. There are bone in chicken thighs that are so juicy and tender, they basically fall off the bone. It came with a side of rice that accompanied the dish nicely. I got the chicken adobo and my friend got sisig (?). Portion was decent, I'm not quite sure how pricing would be but I think it's comparable to other places. Flavour was good, I did find it a bit saltier though. Service is great, staff is really friendly. My friend speaks the same dialect so they were conversing well. My daughter and I decided on an impromptu dinner outing on a Thursday evening and wanted to try a new place. Kain Tayo was on both of our places to try list. We were greeted and seated right away. It's a very nice restaurant. Our waitress was very helpful in suggesting foods for us to try. We ordered the pork lumpia and the vegetable lumpia. My daughter really liked the pork lumpia paired with the sweet chili sauce. I enjoyed the vegetable one as well, however, they were a bit oily. The vinegar sauce that comes with it is a great accompaniment. For drinks we had the mango juice and the calamansi juice. For entrées, I had the Chicken Adobo. It was my favorite. The chicken was very tender and had great flavor. My daughter had the Bistek Tagalog. She enjoyed the flavors but felt like she would have enjoyed the dish better if the beef was tender. We were pretty full at the end of our meal but my daughter didn't want to pass on trying the Halo-Halo for dessert so we ordered it to go. The ice cream on top was our absolute favorite and if we can just order that, we would love that even more. As we were leaving another staff member asked if it was our first time and inquired about our experience. We appreciate how everyone was friendly and checked on us. I love the interior design of the place. It reminds me of the fancy venues you go to in the Philippines. Bright, neutral, and open. I ordered crispy pata, nilaga, lumpia, and gulaman. I also ordered mango + ube cakes on the side to take home for dessert and pandesal bread for my afternoon merianda (snack). I love how flavorful the sauce is accompanied to the crispy pata. The savory broth followed by the softened meat. The cakes, breads, and gulaman aren't overly sweet, which I like. As someone who lived in the Philippines for a while, I do admit that the prices are expensive, but different country has different prices unfortunately. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Despite ordering a drink on the side, we were offered service water without having to ask. I found out they spoke Ilonggo, which makes the interaction warmer and welcoming. The colorful little vegetable side salad that came with his tilapia was actually super addicting; great flavor. I kept stealing it from his plate. I worry that this was race related as my friend was the only black person in line. The staff looked through her as if she was invisible. The treatment that she recurved was deplorable. Great food and service, the lechon kawali, sisig, and adobo were great and I would definitely go back for that! I was expecting a restaurant level volume, but was surprised when I could hear the karaoke from down the street and even more surprised when they seated my party right in front of the speaker. Great singing as expected, and great vibes, but wouldn't recommend this for a quiet group or if you intend on trying to hold conversations. As a side note some water kept dripping from the ceiling onto one of my friends at the table... Conclusion: would go again with friends for a fun night of singing and good eats! The restaurant interior is very nice and roomy. The food was delicious! I found the service to be a bit lacking. The server had to take every single question into the back to verify answers, making the ordering process much longer. When we first entered, we thought we'd eventually have a total of six people. We were told that they don't split checks for groups of 6 or more. I almost felt like they would rather we leave. I went up to the register to pay in cash and was asked if I wanted change.... You know that no matter what you order it will be served with immense love and care. A favorite of mine is Chef Sally's Sisig, but I have enjoyed everything that I have ordered. The people who work are incredibly nice and make you feel welcomed every time you come. They also always seem very happy to share their food and culture with customers. I have been coming to Kain Tayo for nearly three years and I have seen the ambiance and aesthetic grow during that time. The decor is very cute and is all tied together very well. I also think that the karaoke stage is a fun touch, however I have only every seen it used once. Always a great experience. Service is always stellar, it's like being with family. We tried the brunch and everything was amazing. What's even better than Filipino entrees- Filipino desserts. They have a display counter so you can see your options which made choosing even easier. I was too busy eating to take a picture of the menu. My mom and I came in for dinner on a Friday night around 5 PM. It was pretty empty, but the space is bright and clean and there was Filipino music playing along with a karaoke machine set up. Our server was helped us immediately -- I ordered a Gulaman and my mom got a water. The Gulaman was good, you can't mess that up! I usually like mine with Sago, but the jelly was good. I ordered the Nilagang and my mom ordered the Fried Fish pompano. The Nilagang was delicious! It was savory and salty and the meat was so tender. The soup included bok choy, cabbage, green beans, corn (I didn't care for that), and potatoes. My mom's fish was cooked perfectly. She didn't like one of the sauces that was sweet and sour, but i thought it went great with the fish. We ended the meal with a hearty halo halo dessert. Since then, this restaurant owned by a very nice, down-to-earth and sweet lady and chef named Sally became our family's favorite! We've been here prolly 8-10 times for the last 5 months! What a cute little Filipino spots to eat a delicious lunch! Went here with a couple of friends while we were in town for a conference and at sisig, nilaga, and sinigang. Each of the dishes came with rice which was wonderful AND we had calamansi juice! The portion were big enough for each of us to try a little bit from everyone. It was so nice! It was such a unique experience dining at the Kamayan event at Kain Tayo. I have always wanted to be invited to a Filipino feast and it was everything and beyond my expectation. The presentation on the feast on the banana leaves was so beautiful. The food was amazing and the portion was so filling. The karaoke portion of the night was a delightful treat and very entertaining. I had a wonderful time with my friends and the people that I met during the dinner. It truly felt like a wholesome community experience that we came together to celebrate. I'm so happy that they hosted this event and would definitely return for the next!
