    Monte Cristo

Found this place in a bustling food hall in St Louis while I was looking for a little lunch. It didn't disappoint. The food hall and the surrounding area are both thriving and loaded with a variety of shops and restaurants all in a nice walkable area. If you're considering visiting, just go ahead and do it. Parking is easy and free and there's something there for everyone. Now onto this waffle...or waffle sandwich. I couldn't decide between a taco place or this waffle place until I saw that there was a waffle monte cristo. I was sold. They cooked it up fresh and got it to me quickly and the thing was packed with flavor. So good. What's not to love about a monte cristo waffle sandwich? Great food, cool atmosphere and surrounding area, decent prices...what else can you ask for?

Opens at 9 am. We arrived at 9:10. Sign on register says opening late. We decided to wait. Now it's 10:01and still no sign of life. The girl that was here when we arrived, left shortly after we arrived and hasn't been seen since. I was unaware the waffle business was so lucrative they don't need the business. I guess we'll give our money to one of the other businesses.

I was wishing that waffle was going to be a bit more tasty, but the waffle itself was just not good. Tasted as if it was old.

I just was not overly impressed with my s'mores waffle and I'm letting the food lead this review. My son added Oreos. The waffle was served warm. I found what I had average. Find them in the Foundry. Friendly counter service. 4.5 rounding down. I would try again and select another waffle.

You really only need to eat here when visiting City Foundry Food Hall! Belgian waffles- made with dough and sugar pearls like the real deal in Belgium! The House is cookie butter, Nutella, strawberries, and whipped cream on top of a hot and fresh waffle! The chicken and waffles is a big YES! Get messy with a waffle ice cream sandwich big enough for two or more! Just eat here! Trust me!

I love a good Nashville hot chicken and waffles! Living in Nashville, I knew ordering this would be a disappointment. I guess I was missing home. Hahaha. Anyways, as mentioned I tried the hot chicken and waffles with red hot riplets was Nashville meets STL (with the red hot riplets). Great concept, just not my cup of tea, price rage with tax was close to $20. Very expensive if you ask me, it was two tenders on a waffle, you can see the size compared to the pickle spear.

Delicious. Whatever you order is going to be frickin' great. The Belgian sugar pearls elevate these waffles beyond waffles I've ever had. Staff is friendly. The only issue I have is they're never open on time. If you're supposed to open at 9 AM or 10 AM, you need to be ready to serve right then, not drag-ass until 30 minutes past. If I were the owner, I'd be pissed. Luckily, I'm more laid back as a customer.

Their liege waffles are fresh and made to order. I love the crunchy sugary exterior of the waffle. I ordered the Southern Belle (lemon curd and blueberries) and substituted strawberries instead. Service is fast and portions are a good size

Amazing waffles with luxury toppings! We got the Southern Belle (lemon and blueberry) and the popular The House waffle (strawberry and chocolate). Both were very good, but the Southern Belle in particular was extremely delicious. I would recommend eating them right away--the waffles harden if you try to save them!!

I always have the House Waffle and am blown away. It was absolutely amazing. Nutella, cream, strawberries, banana, and more. It wasn't too sweet for me. The combinations of textures and flavors worked together really well. The only ding is I feel like the waffles decreased in size over the years. Nevertheless, it's a staple every time I go to the Foundry.

I'm not too much of a sweets person, so when I saw this option I was ALL in. While this was being made my mouth was watering as I watched. When it was served I had a big ole cheesy smile on my face- One bite and I was in heaven! I even yelled out that she did a great job- definitely recommend stopping by and trying this flavor sensation!

They also had free mimosa on Sunday (hint hint). Also, they close their kitchen at 3:30pm as well. Food wise, I was satisfied. They had a limited menu. Chicken was hot and crispy. Grits were hot and buttery. I enjoyed a basic meal and will gladly come back. Gotta try the G sauce I heard about.

I've been there once or twice over the years, and I've eaten from the food truck once or twice. The fried chicken is fine but kinda underwhelming. It's good, but not to the point where it justifies the price. It's served on a metal tray, on a piece of wax paper, as if it were premium Texas barbecue, but at the end of the day, it's not barbecue. It's just fried chicken. The dirty little secret of fried chicken is that it's not especially hard to make decent-quality fried chicken. They sell it at gas stations, in grocery stores. Popeyes employees lacking in basic life skills, whom you wouldn't trust to make a cup of coffee, routinely crank out a product as good as anything else you can get in a restaurant. Not that I'm complaining. I love Grace! It's where I go when my "bad" cholesterol is too low and the balance in my checking account is too high. I'm at a problematic and yet gratifying state of equlibrium after yesterday's visit. I already kinda knew that I wasn't going to bother with the chicken, but I could hardly read the menu. I almost went with a half-chicken just to avoid having to squint. They've got one of those backlit screens, like at a McDonald's (where everyone just uses the kiosk now anyway), but with worse fonts and less line-spacing. I'm sure they paid a premium for it back in '06 or whatever. Everything in this place is peak stomp clap-era millennial optimism, from back when guys were dressing as lumberjacks. Of course there's a random, incongruous smash burger on the menu. They may or may not be playing Mumford & Sons on the Muzak. I figured the chicken sandwich, called the OG Crispy, would be a good opportunity to compare it to the famous chicken sandwich at the aforementioned Popeyes. Also, it comes with fries, which spared me from having to take out a loan on my house to purchase them a la carte. At $16 (I think), it'll definitely run you, but in general, the prices here seem less ridiculous than they used to. It's still entirely too much, but somehow not much more than you'd spend at a fast food restaurant. Are the fries that come with a sandwich the same size that they are if you order them separately? Supposedly, the a la carte side feeds two. I couldn't imagine two people sharing the side that comes with the OG Crispy. Someone might get cut! It was a perfectly fine size for just me. They're seasoned with some sort of blend that's heavy on the black pepper. I would have been fine with just salt, but this was no dealbreaker. The OG Crispy was great! Was it better than the chicken sandwich at Popeyes? It's hard to say. It's probably a better quality piece of chicken. Similar size. Expertly prepared: nice and crisp on the outside and not overcooked on the inside, which is key for white meat. You're given the choice of regular or hot. I of course went with the hot. I wish the sauce had more tang to it, but it was surprisingly and delightfully hot. Spicy foods in non-ethnic restaurants are so often nerfed, for children and, erm, non-ethnics. A few people at my table had the po boys, both shrimp and catfish. They looked really good, and not as skimpy as they look in some of the photos posted here. I might have to try one, once my LDL subsides and my financial situation recovers. Sandwiches might be the thing to get here. Not that you can truly go wrong with anything.

Fantastic food, mediocre service…read more I took my partner her for his birthday, we were planning to celebrate with friends over the weekend but I wanted to treat him to a romantic dinner with incredible food in a laid back environment and this completely fit the bill. We had been previously for brunch but neither of us had been for dinner so we were really excited. From the moment we walked in the vibes just felt off. Not bad, just off. I made a reservation for 7pm. When we pulled up at 6:55 I noticed that my reservation confirmation showed 6:45. I'm certain I made it for 7:00. Not sure what happened there, and not blaming them for that, but I'm curious if that's why things felt off. When creating a reservation it prompts you to include any dietary restrictions and whether you are celebrating anything. I included that we were celebrating a 40th birthday. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty we were crammed directly next to another table despite other 2 tops being available. We were close enough to our neighbors to hear their entire conversation. It's a small space, I get it, but it felt odd especially since several tables around us remained empty for the 2 hours of our visit. I enjoy a leisurely dinner but that not what this was. The service was just that slow and inattentive that it took that long. We saw our server visit the table next to us several times before we were even greeted. I waited about 10 minutes before finally going to the bathroom and that's when he decided to come to the table, so if there was a greeting, listing specials anything at all I missed it'. He came by again when my partner was in the bathroom. We had already waited a while, I would not have minded waiting a little longer for us both to be present for the greeting. I want to be clear that the service was in no way bad, it was just very lackluster. The only real issue we ran into was waiting a very long time for one of our appetizers. Not the end of the world, but for the caliber of restaurant that this is I would at least expect attentive or kind or personable service and it was none of those. He was nice enough, but was very much an order-taker only. We were not offered any suggestions or recommendations at all, it felt very transactional. The kicker was as we were leaving we see someone (not our server) approaching our table with a dessert and a candle. They specifically walked past another party towards where we were sitting (the table next to us was gone by this point). We had paid our bill about 10 minutes earlier and were just walking away. I think "oh they are bringing him a birthday dessert how sweet!" So we sit back at our table only to see the same person backtrack to a nearby table and bring the dessert to them. I was mortified for thinking it was for us and actually sitting back down. We leave, there are 3 people standing there (including the person who brought the dessert and saw the whole thing) and no one even acknowledges us leaving. It was all just so bizarre. I wasn't expecting rolling out the red carpet and certainly wasn't expecting anything for free for the birthday, but I was expecting *some* level of hospitality, especially when I made it explicitly clear we were celebrating. My partner does not treat himself to ANYTHING nice and it was a milestone birthday. I wanted to make it unforgettable. We loved our food and again, didn't have a *bad* experience, but I chose to dine out to make him feel as special and well taken care of as he makes me feel and this just didn't hit the mark.

I was a little bummed we couldn't get a table, but we were able to sit at the bar. So if you don't make reservations, they will get you in. The biscuits and gravy are either for you or they're not. I like them, but it's not something I would order every day. The charcuterie board was very good, but almost came off as a little basic for the price. The eggs Benedict was excellent, and the potatoes were the star of the show. The most simple food, but it was by far one of the biggest surprises at how tasty they were. I 100% recommend.

And the happy hour is crazy good! On a nice day there is nowhere nicer than the patio and tonight the happy hour was GLORIOUS. I do like sitting inside as well but with this weather you couldn't make me go inside. I have had brunch here quite a few times, dinner too, but as I said today was happy hour. That means the burger. It is absolutely one of the best I have had. I take it as offered but love that they always ask if I want modifications. Look at that burger! And the shoestring potatoes are marvelous too! We had the chips & cheese and olive appetizers to snack on as burgers were getting made and we each had a cocktail. Love that the service is attentive and friendly (Brian was great tonight). But also love that I never feel rushed to turn the table over. And the happy hour from 5-6 means that burger is close in price to tha burgers at Shake Shack and I guarantee you will enjoy this far more. I have had great dishes of all sorts here but I sometimes have to give in to the burger... it never lets me down!
