Spicy Hokkaido Hotate (Scallops) Temaki Handroll Coconut Madai Crudo STANDARD 8 Piece Kaisen Nigiri Set - Chef's Choice Waygu nigiri

I ordered this for delivery to my hotel. The restaurant securely packed everything and included ice packs. They also made a point to pack the hot and cold food separately. Fish was fresh and tasty, the sawagani was nice and crunchy.

Really good!!! I am a sushi SNOB and this place definitely met the hype and my high expectations!! It was almost an hour drive but worth it. I got a a whole spread of variety to try it all. Wasn't superrr impressed with the california roll but I am not a california roll lover (it's just okay). The spicy tuna roll was good, LOTS of tuna!! Massive rolls. The star of the night was the nigiri!!! SO good. 10/10. Would definitely come back for just nigiri next time. Great quality and amount for the price. It's in a ghost kitchen (no dining area, you take it to go or you can eat in the food hall). Def give it a try! I will be coming back.

The reviews were rated so high, I had big expectations. I came on New Years Day. I was surprised and happy to see they were open that day. Great for them! You can either order online or order at the kiosk inside Blodgett Food Hall. And you get a text on your phone. You then use your phone to scan at the pick up area and it tells you if your order is ready. You then get a text where the food locker is assigned and it pops open when you click on the link they send you. Pretty cool. Service- packaged nicely with ice to keep if fresh, and it took about 20ish min to get my food. Once you get your food, you can either sit and enjoy it inside Blodgett food hall seating area inside or outside, or take your food home with you. Food- the hand rolls were indeed fresh as they were separately packaged to prevent soggyness. But the flavor was ok. The Girls Dinner box, while a great concept, was filling and fresh, but def lacked what I was expecting in flavor, or seasoning or additonal adds ons then just the plain fish alone. It's comes with a broth too which is a nice touch. You may love it, but I will be sticking to my fav hand roll spots for now, they didn't win me over.

Kaisen Sushi HTX takes takeout sushi to the next level. Seriously some of the best sushi I've had in Houston in terms of quality. This ghost kitchen concept is to go only for pickup or delivery through Uber Eats/Doordash. Regardless of not having an actual brick n mortar, the sushi here is no joke. They are literally flying in fresh fish from Japan daily. I've been following them on social media for a minute, but yesterday was the first time I finally tried them out. I ordered their negitoro bowl and tried their 8pc bluefin tuna nigiri. The tuna quality here is INSANELY GOOD! Probably the best tuna I've had since I was last in Japan this year. And don't sleep on their dashi broth that comes with every order, this broth soothes your soul. Be sure to follow Kaisen Sushi HTX on social media. The chef is really big on IG and Tiktok. What I appreciate the most is how transparent they are about their business and their commitment to high quality sushi. They literally closed early the other day because the newer guy made a bad batch of sushi rice and they didn't want to compromise quality by serving that to their customers. These guys really know what they are doing, and I would support their business 1000%. You won't regret trying them out, enjoy!

I loved trying this sushi. I found Kaisen on TikTok, and decided to try it out. I ordered the girl dinner, salmon nigiri, and the California rolls. This establishment is only available for pick up as it is a ghost kitchen btw. My favorite was probably the California rolls! They were HUGEEEE. The hosomaki was delicious too! For all of the nigiri, the fish was a little too thick for me... and a little hard to chew. I would definitely try this place again for the California rolls

Alright. this place is like a 'ghost' kitchen where you can only order on uber eats, and you head over to a shady food hall where you pick up the food from a locker and you don't see a single staff member. Nonetheless, extremely fresh sushi for the price (they have basically an evergreen 50% off on uber). Rumor has it, they are importing their fish fresh from Japan. My wife believes this is the best salmon and tuna sashimi she's had all year in Houston! Advice to the owner - add some ice to your packaging, especially if you are a to-go only establishment and you are serving raw fish. Even a scoop of ice cubes in a plastic bag would be better than nothing c'mon. Would I Go Out of My Way to Try? Yes, but to-go only Would I Return? Yes Food Taste- 10/10 Ambiance - NA Service - NA Value- 9/10

High-End Sushi: To-Go Edition The sushi here was super fresh and high quality. Although I only ordered a poke bowl, the quality had me mind blown. This was hands down the highest quality poke bowl I've ever had. It was so good that I wish the portion was bigger lol. Highly reccomend the Chef Shogo's Japanese Hamachi & Yellowfin Tuna Poke Bowl. Keep in mind that this is not your typical brick and mortar restaurant. Kaisen is one of the many restaurants availble at Blodgett Food Hall, which is primarily to-go orders. I reccomend you order online on their website, then head there to pick up your food. You can always order when you get there, but skip the wait and order ahead. There are also a few tables availble inside if you can't wait to get home to eat. The menu at Kaisen changes day-to-day depending on their inventory. Make sure to peep their social media to stay updated on the menu, limited time offerings, and specials. I initally found Kaisen online via social media and immediately knew that I had to give it a try. The owner, Sunny, documents his experiences, difficulties, successes, basically the nitty gritty of the business on his TikTok. His commitment to quality and transparency is what moved me to try Kaisen. Overall, really solid spot if you enjoy high-end sushi.

I've ordered from Kaisen Sushi twice. The first time I picked up my order at one of the food lockers in Blodgett Food Hall. The second time, I got delivery. Both experiences were good, with prompt service. Kaisen Sushi is not a sit down type sushi restaurant, though Blodgett Food Hall does have a bare bones eating area set up, if you want to crack into your order right there. The sushi quality and quantity is outstanding and fairly priced. I recommend ordering directly from their website for overall value. The focus here is sushi, sashimi, nigiri, with inari and sometimes curry on the menu. I appreciate the owner's concept of providing quality sushi, to go. He doesn't have to hire a dishwasher, and I can eat from the comfort of my home, for minimal effort. I hope this catches on and Kaisen Sushi will endure.

    Chef choice hosomaki special

This place deserves all the hype and love! I've been following Kaisen on social media and am so happy to have finally tried the sushi. For my first time, I decided to go with the 8 piece standard nigiri set. Every piece was exceptional- it is so clear that the fish is fresh and the flavor of each piece is distinctly unique. The attention to detail is incredible, from the way the fish is cut to the little lemon zest on top. The rice itself is also delicious. The nigiri is the perfect temperature as well. The chefs choice hosomaki special is such a great way to reduce waste as it uses pieces of fish that didn't fit in other sets. It tased great. And this was reasonably priced! Would love to try more things! Please do support this place- Chef Sunny deserves all the praise and success!

I stumbled across Kaisen Sushi HTX from social media and didn't realize the owner of Kaisen is also the chef from Seiwa Market. He opened up his own little stand in Blodgett Food Hall. FYI, their website is still under construction. They usually open from 4-9pm~ check their instagram page! I had to message them on instagram to get more info before ordering. Turns out its cheaper (duh) to order at Blodgett vs Uber Eats, DoorDash or Grubhub. I ventured out to Blodgett Food Hall and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. Its busy, people come and go, they're dining in for a quick bite (but not staying too long), its your regular food hall. I even witnessed a guy arguing with an owner over not getting all over their food. And she wasn't having it. LOL You order at the Kiosk and get a text when your food is ready. There's also TV's to show all of orders being made from every stall. I waited about 35 min from start to finish. Once you get a text, you go over to the locker and push a button on your phone to get your food. I ended up getting the Girl Dinner and 8 Piece Salmon Nigiri. Girl Dinner - 8 pieces of bluefin tuna and scottish salmon - small portion of chicken teriyaki - daily fresh broth - Kaisen Cali Roll (japanese style where you separate the seaweed for freshness and roll it) From the freshness of the Salmon nigiri, lemon zest, roe, to the crispiness of the seaweed, and the fresh rolls, is so worth the price. Also Girl Dinner is the best bang for your buck! You can't beat $20 of treat yo self.

I wanted to like this place more than I did, but for to-go sushi it was still really good! We got the Big Back Blue Fin Tuna, Bento Set A and Sake Crudo. First impression was that the sake crudo was smaller than I thought it would be, but it still looked great! We loved the tuna combo, minus the do-it-yourself handroll, it tasted good, but we didn't know we were doing so we made a mess unpackaging it. The bento set and sake crudo were good, but one piece of fish was really tough to bite though. I would definitely order the tuna combo again, but I'd try other things on the menu before ordering the other two options. Overall, it was great quality fish and the pickup situation is really easy. I would recommend giving it a try.

I've been following Kaisen Sushi for a while now and finally had the opportunity to check them out tonight. I was in for an unexpected treat when I met Sunny, the owner of Kaisen Sushi. I was truly speechless at his kindness and hospitality, it was such a pleasure to meet him and be given the opportunity to try some of his recommendations. Order: - Bluefin Nigiri "Girl Dinner" - Hamachi Nigiri - Buri Nigiri - 4-piece Chef's Choice I can confidently say that every single item was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The unique garnishes on each piece truly put the cherry on top. The underdog of the night was their homemade dashi broth, absolutely outstanding. I cannot wait to come back. This is by far one of the best sushi spots I've been to, offering top-quality fish at great prices!

Ordered Kaisen again on a busy weekend night and I wanted to write an update to capture the experience after one of Chef Sunny's tiktoks went viral. Since Kaisen has been a lot busier there is an understandable wait time often associated with ordering and frequent pauses to their online ordering platforms. If you are able to order, I would definitely go for it. My previous review brought up two items of concern that have both been addressed and our food this time has exceeded our expectations. One of the complaints that we had last time was that the sushi rice was undercooked to the point of some rice grains still being crunchy. I am happy to report that my most recent order from Kaisen featured some of the best, if not the absolute best, sushi rice I have in Houston to date. The other complaint that I had during my previous visit was a good amount of sinew in the pieces of fish we received. I am glad to report that all of the fish we received were fresh and tender. We ordered BOGO from Doordash (FYI the prices on Doordash and UberEats are 2x what you would pay if you were to order directly from Blodgett Food Hall website, so you're not actually getting much of a discount) and got 2 standard nigiri sets and 2 premium nigiri sets. In the standard nigiri sets we received 2 pieces each of smoked scottish salmon, lean bluefin tuna (akami), striped jack (shima aji), and sea bream (madai). In the premium nigiri sets we received the same salmon and sea bream pieces accompanied with whole scallops topped with caviar and torched fatty tuna topped with caviar. All of the fish at Kaisen is extremely high quality and probably some of the best you will get in the city. I enjoyed the shima aji and lean tuna the most of all of the pieces, but the fatty tuna and scallop were decadent and very, very close seconds. I personally could not taste much of the caviar and honestly the caviar got a bit lost in my mouth when I ate the piece of nigiri, but perhaps my palate is not refined enough to catch the subtle salinity and oceanic flavor that caviar would add. The sea bream pieces were great too--its firm texture and light and subtly sweet flavor is indicative of its quality. The smoked salmon, while also very good, was not my personal favorite. Thanks Chef Sunny and team for working so hard!

After this discussion, I said fine and asked for a menu. They then told me I had to get up and order at the register and view the menu glued to the counter. They took the order of a couple who sat down maybe 2 minutes before me in front of me. I will never come back to this place. They seem to be the last man standing in this dining hall, and with this kind of customer service, they won't last much longer. The restaurant itself was pretty packed - there wasn't any parking (but they do have an overflow lot you can use). Inside the vibe was nice & upscale. It was surprisingly not intimate & was a little loud. The bathroom hallway was very cool (as the other reviews have said) I got the three course lunch w/ an added chutoro nigiri. The restaurant week lunch was fine, but the nigiri really stood out. I wish they would've had even just one nigiri on the restaurant week menu. The kombu salad was good & had nice flavor without being too overpowering. The hamachi crudo was awesome!! I'm a big crudo fan, but this one was above and beyond my expectations. All of the flavors played so well together & my yellowtail was so fresh and light and buttery. I loved the creaminess of the sauce & how it balanced the acidity of the tomatoes & onion so well. I savored every bite. Honestly the hand rolls left a lot to be desired. The kani hand role wasn't super great. The flavor was mid & the texture felt a bit off. I also thought sake hand roll was just ok.. My chutoro nigiri was also awesome. The cut was beautiful & the fish was super fresh and had an awesome texture. It just melted in my mouth. I'll definitely be back to try the lunch nigiri tasting menu. I'd recommend trying this place, just make sure to get the crudo or nigiri

GENERALIZED REVIEW:…read more Came here with a friend from theatre after a full run--he had this place recommended to him by another theatre friend, so we're just passing on the word. The plaza was a bit confusing to navigate, and I'm pretty sure if the place weren't full of Asian parents and their kids, it would've felt like the shadiest place ever because you have to enter from the back. Otherwise, the plaza had a lot of great-looking stores overall. My first go-to: I've loved drinking Kirin Light ever since I discovered it in Chicago. The flavor is literally so light, with a slight acidity that brightens up my meal. The sake here was frankly also delicious. I didn't order it, but my friend did, and they had it warmed. The flavor was soothing and subtle, almost like tea. It was exceptionally easy to drink, and the ocean-themed ceramicware was a beautiful touch. We ordered two rolls: the Shaggy Dog and the Truffalufagus (a fun tongue-twister). I personally chose the Truffalufagus (which is not fun to spell) because it seemed like the most unique dish on the menu, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked most about it was that it was subtle yet impactful. I also loved the textures--from the internal crunch paired with the fresh jalapeño to the softness of the fish. I'm glad I gave this roll a shot, and I would be excited to try it again anytime. The Shaggy Dog was great, but it appealed less to my flavor profile. It was a little too rich and creamy for me. I recommended this place to my BF as a potential future date spot--I personally think he would like it... if he weren't the type to enjoy AYCE sushi so much. If they had more unique rolls, I would definitely come back just for those. I was tempted to order the Surf and Turf for this round, but I didn't want to seem like a glutton, hahaha.

I'm not sure what I enjoyed more: the food or the service but it was hands down one of my favorite omikase experiences I've ever had (and I've done this in Japan). There were very thoughtful dishes centering your staples like high quality tuna, salmon, scallops, and oysters. One thing that resonated with me was the laksa, which is a Malaysian style curry. Such a fun and unique experience, you'll definitely enjoy your time with chef Sky!

Each bite is elevated and delicious. We wanted to eat slow and enjoy each bite, but each was better than the last and so hard to eat slow! We were anticipating each piece! We loved the addition of laksa and his Malaysian influence. It was so hard to pick a favorite. The sake FLOWS! It's truly unlimited. We had so much fun. The interior is vibe in itself. If you go for the 8 o'clock seating, they do karaoke after and I can only imagine how fun that it since Chef Sky is so fun. He shared so much knowledge and was just so much fun to talk to as well. We finished our meal and stayed another 40 minutes talk to Chef and enjoying the sake. It really is more than just sushi. You will not find wasabi and soy sauce anywhere. Each of the sauces elevates each bite you take and compliments it so well. Here's what we enjoyed: 1.Madai (jalapeño dressing ) 2.Hickory smoke sichimi salmon ( crunchy garlic and sweet & sour sauce ) 3.Scallop with sesame oil , truffle salt , fried garlic , ponzu and mint leaf ) 4.Malaysian curry laksa 5.Tuna (Spain ) mango salsa make with tom yum sauce 6.Kanpachi (Hawaii ) truffle oil , Himalayan salt & lemon zest 7.King salmon (New Zealand ) seared with yuzu miso and Malaysian crunchy fried anchovy 8. Santa Barbara uni shooter 9. Founder (repulic of Korea) homemade pepper sauce 10. Seared escolar with pork floss 11. Toro with creamy cilantro lime sauce with kizami wasabi 12 . Hamachi with Malaysian style sweet garlic sauce 13. Unagi with old granny spice and yuzu salt 14. mango crepes cake

The bad news is that things come out too fast, other than the cocktails we ordered first, which showed up after the first course did. I find that a bit irritating. I guess maybe their bar/drinks person went home. But still, a great place in the Heights area. Great fresh sushi, imaginative cocktails and pleasant staff. Will go back when we are in the area

Probably wouldn't recommend sitting at the bar. Food: -Spicy Edamame (4/5): Flavor is a literal different so took a minute for us to get into it, spice sneaks up on you (at first it's kind of sweet). - MF Box (5/5): My personal favorite. The taste and texture are perfect. Very light but flavorful. -Tokyo Roll (5/5): Very good as well. -Hamachi Serrano (3/5): Okay. Not my favorite but wanted to try it out. Texture wasn't for me and could of had a little more flavor. -Baked Lobster Tempura (4/5): Good appetizer option. Sauce was very good, but just a lot. -Shisito (3/5): very few in the portion, average. Drinks: -Spicy Margarita (2/5): Not on the menu just ordered it. Tasted pretty watery. -Oishii (5/5): Wanted to try this drink which is made with Japense Whisky. I would describe it as a piña colada cousin. Was very good, could of been a bit bigger (haha). Worth a try if you like sweet drinks. Overall definitely recommend this place for sushi lovers or those trying to be adventurous. Staff was very nice. Valet parking available. Will definitely be back.
