I had a wonderful experience dining at Songkran on a Saturday evening for dinner. This was my third time visiting this establishment but the prior two times were for lunch. I was greeted at the entrance by friendly staff and was asked if I preferred to sit closer to the entrance or towards the back. I chose the seats deeper into the restaurant because it was a humid day and I wanted to keep my distance from the front door. We were promptly seated and here handed the menus. The menus must have been hot off the press because they were in very good condition. We proceeded to order two entrees (date night with the wife) and the food came out rather quickly. The flat rice noodle (pad si-ew) with beef is one of my go to dishes at any Thai restaurant. The one here was very good! It came out hot, presentation was nice, and the portions of beef were very generous. We also ordered the tofu yellow curry and it was delicious. The tofu was fried very well - so well that it kept up its crunch despite being soaked in the yellow curry. We got spice level 2 of 4 and it was perfect. The waiter called it "mild" but I would say closer to medium. Maybe mild for Thai food. Anyhow, no regrets and we devoured the yellow curry which also came with a side of rice. By the end of dining experience we were so full that we unfortunately did not have room for dessert. All in all, a great experience and we will be back for sure. Given that it's Uptown which generally means pricier food options, I thought the dishes were all fairly priced. The parking is plentiful but when it's busy time like Saturday night, you may have to park further away. Enjoy! read more

I've driven past this restaurant and heard people rave about it for years, so I finally decided to give it a try--and they were absolutely right. Everything we ordered was delicious, but the yellow curry completely won me over. It was so flavorful that I could honestly eat it every day. I also loved the lunch special, which came with soup and salad and made for a really satisfying meal. While I do think it's a bit pricey for Thai food, the quality of the food makes it worth it. This restaurant is located in uptown park and the ambiance is very elevated with elegant decor. Parking on a Saturday evening can be a little tricky and you may need to park far away from the restaurant. The waiter was very friendly and the staff was very diligent and always made sure our water was topped off. I was able to choose from 4 levels of spice and I decided to go with 2/4 because I was scared that Thai spice would be too spicy for me. I ordered the flat rice noodles with beef, and I was very impressed with the amount of beef and the ratio of meat/vegetables/noodles were perfect. The noodles were chewy and texturally pleasing, and the dish was well prepared. The yellow curry with tofu was extremely flavorful and the amount of spice was perfect for me. Went to Songkran Kitchen for lunch around noon with a group of seven. Parking was a bit of a challenge and we had to park farther away, but we made it work. We sat outside and the service was great because our waitress was super attentive and friendly throughout. We shared the heavenly beef as an appetizer, and all of our lunch specials came with salad and soup, which was a nice touch. I ordered the basil Thai fried rice. While the flavors weren't as bold as I expected, I asked for the highest spice level and they definitely delivered on the heat. The dining space is intimate and comfortable with dim lighting and decorate murals. They have a great happy hour menu with well priced appetizers and cocktails, but we stuck to entrees. It was our first time at Songkran and it did not disappoint. You might not agree with this, but I have a whole thing where I judge a Thai restaurant based on their Thai tea. The second it hit the table, I could already tell it was going to be good. The color was perfect, and the flavor was even better. If you are going to wander into to a place just looking for a great drink, this is the place. We had about an hour before another event and had walked by several times so we decided to try it. Glad we did. Creative drink menu, happy hour and perfect snacks made us wish we had more time. Our bartender had all the things, personable, great conversationalist, and an excellent drink maker. I highly recommend his Butterfly Blush. Decor certainly made you feel the Thai vibes. We tried the pork dumplings and fried tofu with sweet chili sauce at the bar. Came here for a lunch before heading to the airport. My date's favorite Thai place in Houston! We had the papaya salad, which was so fresh and had the perfect kick to it. Delicious pad see-ew, and also massamun curry! They had a martini special going that day and the lychee martini was the perfect sweet companion to the savory and spicy Thai food. My only complaint is that the mango with coconut sticky rice is served with a ton of dairy- condensed milk and ice cream. Wish we could have gotten a traditional mango with sticky rice with coconut milk, as I am lactose intolerant. I will definitely be back though! read more

In Thailand, you find food everywhere--from humble street vendors and sketchy-looking (but delicious) holes-in-the-wall to tourist magnets and sleek, "traditional" Thai restaurants like The Blue Elephant (whose sauces you'll find at Central Market, by the way). Well, Songkran--that's Thai New Year, for the uninitiated--is definitely one of the latter: a pleasantly Americanized, upscale restaurant that doesn't pretend it's a roadside shack. Scratch that--it is authentic in flavor, but the portions? Let's just say they lean more Texas than Thai. Thankfully, they don't go overboard with the spice. Their "Thai spicy" is more kill-me-softly-from-Chiang-Mai than Rayong-napalms-your-tongue. The first thing you'll notice is the sheer number of tables packed into a dimly lit space that smells like heaven--if heaven were a wok full of lemongrass, chili, and coconut milk. And if you arrive hungry (which you should), the aroma will start working on your appetite immediately. Luckily, service is swift. The hosts waste no time seating you, and before long, you're halfway to Bangkok via your tastebuds. Personally, I like to sit outside. Yes, it's Houston in summer. Yes, it's humid. But with the city noise humming in the background and the heat wrapping around you like a silk sarong, you could almost be by the river on the outskirts of Bangkok. Now, the duck salad. Oh, the duck salad. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with herbs and spice. It's not just a dish, it's a love letter. Uncle Roger would approve--Haiyaa, no doubt. And for the record: the first time I visited, I was in a wheelchair. The team bent over backwards to make sure I had a comfortable spot and felt at home. It's one of the Cheapest dish in Thailand. But kinda Expensive here. but hey it's upscale Thai and atmosphere. Got air conditioning even unlike Thailand. Not sure I'd call it authentic Thai. Definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Houston! My favorites to get are the pad see ew and the pad thai. I usually get these items with beef and normally the beef comes out pretty tender. The noodles they use for the pad see ew have a good chew to them, and I really like that they put a good amount of sauce in the dish so that the noodles do not come out dry. Typically service is always good, and the restaurant is great for family meals or special events. They have a nice outdoor seating area that is covered, which is great when the weather is nice. Although it is on the more pricier side for Thai food, I always go home with leftovers enough for a second meal and I think the flavor definitely justifies the cost as well. Hard to put my words down after I enjoyed a happy-hour meal at Songkran Thai Kitchen. That was a nice improvement from a couple of years ago. I came right at the happy hour and asked to be seated on the patio. There were lots of people in the dining room on that day. Not sure if someone was hosting a party or something. I certainly don't want to mingle with them. The waitress brought me menu and showed me where the happy hour appetizers were but she left out "certain items". So, my selection Baked Curry Potato Puff was not one of them half-off items. Bummer. But okay. It wasn't so puffy after my first bite. The salsa came with it was good. The entrée was Clay Pot Red Curry Crispy Duck "Kang Phet Ped Yang", phew such a long name. The duck was seasoned well and it was crispy when not soaking in broth. There are so many meat pieces in this bowl. It was well-worth a try with the red curry. My drink was just hot water and it came with a wedge of lemon. That was so delightful. Great little Thai places tucked in between Uribe and the Gelato place in Uptown Park. Every item we had was delicious. The service was flawless and so polite. We came on a Friday right before HH ends and the sampler was a great choice everything was tasty especially the shrimp. Drinks were hit or miss - lychee martini was too sweet for him and I tried something sour which was fine. The mule -not HH -which is the top mixed drink on the menu was underwhelming. The crispy flounder was a winner so flaky and ask for the sauce on the side which is so helpful. The pieces are already cut for you so you have crunchy filets to share. The basil shrimp entree was fresh and oddly did not have anything besides shrimp - so that was unexpected. Waiter was helpful. For the area it's in, I knew to expect a premium on price. The restaurant is not terrible, but your money would be better spent going to one of the myriad of Thai restaurants across Houston that offer tastier, authentic Thai flavors, bigger portion sizes, and lower prices. read more

For main course meals we had the pad ke mao with tofu spicy level 3, green curry with tofu spicy level 3, and chili basil chicken. All three dishes were very good; however, in some way lacked the full authentic flavors that are typically seen the Thai cuisine. The green curry had sweeter notes and less of an earthy tone then how the dish usually presents. Pad ke mao was also slightly tangy/sweet which was interesting.
