This place was quick and amazing! We're visiting from Oklahoma for our honeymoon, and somehow I lost my glasses. I was stressed and worried because I really need them, and I didn't know of any place that could make glasses the same day, that was affordable, and had my lenses available since I have a high prescription. Thankfully, they were able to receive my prescription by fax and make my glasses within 1 hour, even with a fully booked schedule and me being a walk-in. Dr. Jones is by far the best optometrist I have ever frequented (I recently returned for my second annual eye exam). I can't say enough good things about his care for patients and his team. Dr. Jones walks you slowly through every step of the exam. As a fluent but non-native English speaker I am really grateful for this experience. It is so clear that he really wants to help his patients and offer a friendly atmosphere. I have some mid-age-related sight issues and needed glasses for the first time. He recommended going for a lower priced model first to get a feel for using glasses before I may eventually want to upgrade after a few years. No purchasing or exam upgrade pressure like at the highly commercialized places around the island. There is a discount on glasses when you purchase from the shop. The assistant who helped me order was super-friendly and shared helpful advice what to look out for when picking glasses for the first time. Glasses were scheduled to take two weeks but they only took six days to arrive. Dr. Jones and his team are also very personable and chatted with my Air Force vet husband about the military. I honestly should of changed my optometrist sooner! Not sure how long they've been open.. but service/treatment is amazing, convenient location and lovely office + staff. I've previously had several strokes, therefore lost some vision.. the doctor was generally interested in providing an additional assessment, atop my normal vision exam, to review changes/improvements. I would have given a 4.5 if possible only because they say they validate for 1 hour but when I was leaving I entered at 8:30 and it was 8:58 when I left and they only gave me validation for 1/2 an hour so by the time I exited it was 9:03 so I had to pay $3 which I was kinda annoyed about. I will now be parking across the street at Salt every time since the 1st hour is free. My suggestion is park across the street especially if they are going to be stingy about parking. But that had nothing to do with Dr. Nick. Dr. Nick is great I first saw him last year since my optometrist retired and needed to get my contacts so I came to see him. They accept VSP thankfully and he did a few exams to show the surface of the eye it was cool and he did tell me my tear ducts were clogged so to used a warm compress to help it. He also advocated for lasik which I got done a few months ago. And I recently came back due to a swollen eye and he prescribed a drop for allergy. He is very friendly and informative. read more

He is always very helpful when talking about eye health and any questions I may have. My appointment was going a little behind schedule due to being short staffed (not a problem - sometimes happens!) so I checked out the great selection of frames in the mean time, going in with an idea of frames that I wanted. Dare I say the best optometry office on island? UH, YES! I have been to a couple different optometrist (Costco one, one in Manoa, and one on Waialae) I would go with whoever had openings when I am available as I didn't feel like any of the optometrist I have been to have really wowed me. I can confidently say after seeing Dr. Jones I will never go to another optometry office again. He has the nicest equipment, he is thorough, he uses a different method other than the blowing air into your eye puff (for those that dread that), and you can tell he really loves his job. He took the time to answer my questions and review tips to better care for my eyes. Great glasses selection and they match 1-800 contacts prices! The lady at the front desk was so kind and helpful when I couldn't find the office! Plus, it was so easy to schedule an appointment (you can do it online or on the phone). I needed a specialist to weigh in on my visual acuity for a potential new job. When i called i informed them that i was under a deadline. They were very capable to accomodate my schedule. I was able to make an appointment with Kaka'ako Eye Care for the next day. When I arrived, the girls at the front (forgive me for not listing the names, I would likely butcher the spelling) were quick to welcome me and were superbly friendly with explaining how the check in process works. Within minutes I was in the initial exam process. The technician helping me was kind, thorough and patient. It was obvious she has experience with the tools needed and more than enough competence to use them. The initial check was a pleasure. When Dr Nick Jones arrived in the exam room, his first question, while phrased friendly and respectfully, cut right to the point of the exam. I'm dealing with bureaucracy. Let's see how he can help. His exam showed my vision is healthy. I could've been finished there, but Nick dug deeper (after ensuring I was interested) and next thing I realize, he had explained the detailed (by my point of view) medical processes that might help me improve my eye sight. He was insightful enough to include the level of improvement I could realistically expect so as not to "promise the moon," but he highlighted option I hadn't know about before. Throughout the entire process I felt the whole establishment had my needs and comfort foremost in their minds. I've been to several eye doctors on island and they have been okay so I searched for a new doctor and made an appointment at Kaka'ako Eye Care based on reviews found on Yelp. I was so glad I made the decision to go because everyone there was so friendly and helpful. Dr. Nick was GREAT!! He really took his time answering all of my questions and explaining everything. I found a great pair of glasses at a reasonable price and they were exactly what I hoped for. I was so happy with them I took my kids the following week for their eye exams and they loved their experience there and are very happy with their new glasses. My prior eye doctor retired last year. I needed an annual eye exam and updated prescription for eyeglasses this month - July of 2024. I searched the internet for Honolulu eye doctors. I came across Dr. Jones at Kakaako Eye Care. I saw that this office allowed you to schedule your own appointment online for an eye exam. I appreciated that I could choose my date and time so easily. (I had actually called a couple other eye doctor offices - they did not answer their phones and did not return my calls.) This office responded right away and sent me the information I needed and I was all set. And the next week I went to the appointment on Ala Moana Blvd., and I cannot say enough about Dr. Jones. It was such a pleasure to meet and talk to him and he takes so much time to explain everything. I was very pleased, and I will make him my primary provider from now on. My last eye doctor office was crowded and confusing and they rushed you through and explained little - it was not good. I learned more from Dr. Jones on this one visit than I had ever learned from previous doctors. And he is just plain so warm and welcoming - his whole office staff is - and the office itself is beautiful too. I am fortunate to have found him. Starting with the receptionist who greeted me instantly & was very welcoming. She explained the new patient paperwork to me & asked me if I had parked in the structure. The office is located in a very convenient area, right across of SALT Kakaako, and is on the newer side so it looked very spacious and clean, and very trendy as well. Dr. Jones is very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable -- honestly, I felt like I was chatting it up with him like I knew him for years! My appointment went without a hitch! I'm 67 and have worn glasses my whole life. Never, ever, have I had such a good experience with an optometrist. Dr. Jones was very thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. The best part is he spends time doing the exam and explains things in detail. This is the precise opposite of the factory/corporate model where the provider spends very little time with the patient. Dr. Jones is like a doctor in a country town in the old days - very personable and you are treated like a person. I walked out the door with new contacts that corrected my stigmatism - my two previous optometrists sold me contacts that did not correct the stigmatism and I could not see well at all.
