Super surprised that I haven't heard of Sushi Hanabi before esp considering how long it's been around! I visited for a weekday lunch and it wasn't too busy which was nice. They don't have a very large space and the parking lot is a bit tight too. We were greeted kindly when walking in and our food only came out ~10 minutes after ordering. I tried the 49er's Roll and it was just okay. I think what made it not as great as I expected was that the roll tasted dried out, and it seemed like it was cut sloppily too. The roll itself was $17 which made it a bit more disappointing since it felt like the quality didn't match the price point. Service was great, but unfortunately the food just didn't hit. read more

Solid Japanese food in Pleasanton - we stopped by yesterday (Friday) around 6 pm and snagged the last parking spot and table, as the place was packed with diners and others waiting for takeout. We started with drinks, miso soup and steamed edamame, and enjoyed those while waiting on our other appetizers, Pork Katsu and Chicken Karage, and entrées - Tempura Udon soup, Lion King roll, and Just Dragon roll. We enjoyed our food and finished everything! Our favorites were the Miso Soup, Pork Katsu, and Just Dragon roll. We were not impressed by either the Tempura Udon soup or the Lion King roll. Service was excellent and the bill was about $100 before tax and tip. There were several tables and parking spots available when we finished our meal around 7 pm. Happy to return, but if we are craving udon soup, we may give other establishments a try. read more

We were a big group and they were able to accommodate us. We called ahead of time and they let us know, that our group will be in two separate tables. This setup was perfect, one table with kids, the other for the adults. We had to servers taking our orders and we didn't wait long for our meal. The rolls were huge and flavorful. One word describes this place : authentic. The sashimi was fresh and truly a delicacy. The spicy tuna roll was more modern but still a good addition to the traditional dishes. The grilled edamame is worth the extra calories lol The staff is more reserved than other places but they are very polite, respectful and cordial. It is more of a family friendly establishment which makes sense because Pleasanton is a lovely (mostly family) neighborhood but I still enjoy going on my own. I've always enjoyed this place and in the past would've given it an easy 5 stars. I feel like recently the quality of the food has decreased a bit, with an inversely proportional increase in price. The service is generally good, although at times it has been difficult to get the servers attention e.g. on their phone. I like their seating but there is no outdoor option sadly. One of my absolute favorite sushi spots! You definitely want to get here just before the dinner rush, but trust me--it's so worth it. I've been here countless times and usually forget to take pictures because I'm too excited to start eating. This is a nice Japanese restaurant that has a surprisingly extensive menu and offers much more than just sushi. We had lunch here on a weekday and it was relatively quiet. There is ample seating in the restaurant and the ambiance is a bit on the darker side. But still very comfortable and inviting. We tried a variety of dishes and they all were good - the Chicken Karaage, the tempura, and the sushi. Service was efficient and our food came out quickly. My wife and I know good Sushi, we go out for Sushi several times a month for the past 20 years. Sushi Hanabi's review said there fish was fresh. My wife wanted to go there. We arrived and waitress seated us right away. Restaurant had nice atmosphere. Well as soon as I sat down my arms stuck to the sticky table. We should have left then. But I was hungry so I put napkins under my arms. We ordered Sushi and while waiting for food one of the chefs was sneezing big time, he sneezed huge sneezes downward twice and did not cover his face. I'm sure it sprayed everware. He looked like he had a cold. He did not wash, just went back to making sushi. The Sushi arrived quickly but it was not good. Did not taste good. Definitely not fresh. The other chef kept going outside to smoke a cigarette and when he came back he did not wash his hands, just went back to making sushi. It was a waste of $100 and do not recommend. This restaurant has been on my list for awhile and I finally tried it! Ordered a Pleasanton roll which was delicious I could probably eat two of these alone. The fish here was so fresh. I also had a California roll, an unagi roll, mixed tempura and my baby had a bowl of rice. The tempura was perfectly fried and lightly battered. Sushi Hanabi is located in a small and pretty quiet plaza. There is some shared parking in the lot here, as well as designated parking for their restaurant (pick up only). Not much service, but the employees seemed friendly / welcoming - I ordered on the phone for a quick pick up - it was ready within 15 minutes. A bit cramped in here, I felt like the counter to pay / pick up was only a few inches away from a table of customers dining in, so it was a bit awkward. I came here for post workout meal, I wanted something good and light - I. ordered 1 order each of their sake maki (1 roll - 6 decent sized pieces) and sake nigiri (1 order - 2 pieces). The salmon from the sake maki tasted pretty fresh, so it was enjoyable without much soy sauce. Unfortunately, the sake nigiri did not tasted as fresh, as it could, so I had to add extra soy sauce to help with the fishy taste of the salmon. A bit pricey at about $18, but if both orders tasted fresh, it would had been worth it - overall, it was decent. read more

I would tip high if the food and service were excellent. Despite all this I still tipped them appropriately based on my experience but surprisingly I saw my card statement was charged with a 30% tip! Waaay above the tipping norm! I did not authorize that charge so this is fraudulent! People who choose to dine here, I advise you to check your statements & receipts. Make sure the tip you wrote is accurate because this restaurant is dishonest. It can happen to anyone, even from a small business like this unfortunately. As good as Amakara which is our quality bar. Sushi Hanabi has a small dining area, probably a total of 15 to 20 tables. We got there by 5:20 and when we left, every table was occupied. Mom and pop family vibe. We had the chirashi bowl, crazy monkey roll, and a beer. The chirashi bowl had over 15 pcs of delicious fresh good size sashimi pieces. The crazy monkey roll was really great, avoid shrimp tempura and get raw fish in your roll, topped with unagi? Yum! They weren't skimpy on the tobiko either! Eating at Hanabi reminds me of eating at an intimate & charming restaurant in Osaka. From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted; "Irasshaimase" (welcome in japanese). I've had so many items (look at pics) from the menu but my favorites are always the simple things. I don't like when sushi is slathered in sauce. I like when it is fresh and simple. My favorite is the albacore tatake. Seared albacore with spring mix, jalepeno, avocado, miso sauce and spicy powder. I also love the uni nigiri. The real wasabi is so fresh and accentuates the flavors of the sushi. Service is almost always great. Shout out to Hayden. She is always so friendly and efficient. My favorite waitress at Hanabi. Also upon careful observation, the main chef is so passionate about making sushi. He also washes his hands after every order. We came here on a Saturday and ot was pretty dead at opening. We were the first group in. Right when you walk in you are looking directly at the sushi bar. Most of the staff were just standing around. We were able to choose any seat that we wanted. We were given menus which were nicely labeled and descriptive. They also handed us a piece of paper that had specials. They have a single plate option and a bento option. The thing that was weird was for the bento option beef teriyaki was an extra $2. And other options cost extra whereas other Japanese places it usually free. For the bento box it's $24 with out ordering the special items. And it all comes with soup, and 3 options. The single plate also comes with soup and salad with one option for $19 or most expensive $23. We choose the bento box with chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu and California roll which are all at no additional cost. And the engi denbori. The denbori was quiet small. It came is a rentable box and the engi was on top of the rice. And you get a small seaweed salad. Nice flavor. But um not worth the price. We also ordered the chicken karagae and mixed tempura. The mixed tempura was $10 and only had one shrimp, one cucumber 1 broccoli and one sweet potato. Which I think most places are roughly the same price but more pieces. And I had also asked for spicy mayo for the chicken karage. And the waitress said you want spicy mayo. We don't pair out chicken that way it's usually with this sweet and sour sauce. And then when we got rhe receipt it was .50 charge for the sauce. Sad! That lac of communication. read more

Accidental stop on Tuesday night turned out to be extremely delicious, even though we had to wait to be seated for over 15 minutes. We were surprisingly amazed by the food, quality and number of customers. I mean this place was jampacked starting from 6 till 9 PM. Food was excellent. And you name it to give it a thumbs up. Miso soup outstanding! Agedashi tofu, really, it's a deep fried? Didn't notice. Cali roll with real crab, might be canned, however mmmmm, I'll come back for it. **This review is not for food. ** though I'd give zero star if I could. I came to Sushi Hanabi to celebrate Mother's Day but got shocked by the attitude of both waitresses in the restaurant. We were a group of five people with two moms in the group. We got the restaurant a few minutes after it was opened. So the restaurant was not even full and it was about over half of the place open. We requested to sit by the window and asked if they could combine a four-people and two-people table together. Both waitresses were surprisingly rude and said "No, no, you cannot sit there!!" Instead, they wanted us to sit in the corner that was dark as it was far away from the windows. My mother in law usually can't see very well in the dark restaurant. So we asked again if we can add a chair to the four-people table close to the window. "No, no, those are for six and above people, not for five!" One of them was so determined and didn't seem to care about customers or customer service. I'm sure the customers there witnessed all the behavior from the ladies. I'd say if their attitude or customer service would have been better I'd consider the dark corner they suggested. However, because they were so unprofessional and rude, I don't think I'll ever come back here again. We left Hanabi and went for another Sushi place in Dublin. The service from the alternative restaurant was exceptional and they offered to combine two tables without us asking. I was glad that we left Hanabi and found another place to make up the celebration for our special occasion. read more

This place is amazing for both eat in and take out. Anytime I get take out the sushi is super fresh. I get the Hawaiian roll, salmon roll and the hand rolls. Al the hand rolls are delicious.
