He was professional, courteous and assured me this is not how this company operates. Exceptional service. I am elderly and not in good health, but my tires were low and needed air. They were exceptionally busy. It was pouring rain and in less than five minutes they had one of their workers check all my four tires. When I need new tires or any kind of service work Kal Tires would be my first choice. I've been coming here for a while now. Have bought 4 sets of tires and a set of rims from them for my Subaru Legacy, Forester and my dad's Civic. I've always had good service from them and haven't had any issues yet. Like some other tire places, they offer free flat repairs and rotations. I recommend that you make an appointment to get the rotation and flat repairs since they are extremely busy. If you just drop by, they can only get to yours when there is a break between other customer appointments since those customers were there first and/or had appointments. I usually leave my flat tire with them since I'm already driving on my spare and I come back later in the day to pick up. Sometimes they get to it with an hour, other times it's 4hrs but I understand that others were there before me. It is hard to find a place to park as their lot only fits like 5 cars and the surrounding areas are full of other people parking to either to go to work or take the skytrain. They open early enough that I try to drop off my tire or car before work and come back later to pick up. One thing that has changed is that they now close at 5pm which makes it harder to come after work. They used to close at 6pm. * read more

We were losing air in our Jeep tire and were a thousand miles from home. They found a nail in the sidewall which cannot be repaired. They replaced the bad tire with our spare and had to take our bike rack off to do it. Wow, no charge? It took their labor to make it right. We did leave them with some cash for the guys that did the work, but we would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Not a great experience unfortunately. I had a pre booked appointment for 10am and dropped my car off. They told me my oil change and leaky tire fix would take ~2 hours (on the phone, and again when I dropped it off.) It took over SIX (6) HOURS to get my car back! Also they didnt even call me. I tried to call them and the phone rang for 3 mins. I called back and got put on hold for 17 mins. Had to hang up and head to the shop hoping my car was ready because they were closing soon. On top of this they put synthetic oil in my car without consulting with me. I have never been to a shop that hasnt asked if I wanted synthetic or at least recommended it before charging me for it. The other Kal Tire (Boundary Rd) I used to go to never used sythetic, even the Volvo dealership didnt put sythetic in my car. Another weird thing is that they wouldnt give me a copy of the inspection report they did. When I specifically asked for it they told me it was for their records and I couldnt have it. The other Kal Tire used to staple it to my invoice. 6 hours is ridiculous for an oil change and a leaky tire fix. And a bit of a shock when my bill came to $180 when it should have been around $80. read more

Absolutely terrible. I've been a Kal Tire client for more than 20 years. I just spent 3 days going in for a slow tire leak to Kal Tire on Main St. I left today with it not being repaired. First I was told that I was not a client and maybe I purchased my tires from Canadian Tire. The tires were purchased from Kal Tire less that 1000 km ago. Then was given a phantom tire rotation. Then was told the tire that had the leak was not the tire with the leak but a different tire. It seems they are quite comfortable not telling the truth and charging for services not rendered. Absolutely dishonest service - go somewhere else! First experience with this shop was 2 years ago when I changed my four tires - at the time, they provided a good deal. First surprise came when they said they would not complete the work unless I changed all the TPMs (at a huge cost) because one was faulty. This was known to me, and not to be an issue, the tires were just fine. I went ahead and completed the work as it was still under what other retailers offered. Fast forward to December 2022. Tires have lots of life left in them. I took the car back for a puncture repair on a tire that had twice been fixed apparently, as they offer 'free puncture repairs' if you purchased the tires with them - They apparently found the tire being beyond repair, with a puncture that compromised tire integrity. This required a change of all four tires, with the added cost and environmental impact - when the tires have less than 30K km on them. This was told to my wife, and they only gave her a quote for 4 brand new tires without any explanation in writing. I asked for this over email, to find the same explanation. I took the tire to my trusted mechanic - who found two different issues: first the bead wasn't sealing properly due to dirt, and second the tire had a puncture that was not compromising integrity and was a simple fix. Third, they found a very small valve leak, which had been a known issue since I took the tire for a repair at this shop a long time ago. Quite the different diagnosis. The cost to professionally repair all this, $45. I spoke to the manager of the shop on the phone after a couple of emails - in short, his explanation is that he stands behind his team. He said he would check if this was a mistake made by his team, but as yet have to hear back. I believe this was a very dishonest service, targeted at predatory selling me 4 new tires to bump their sales. I'd definitely steer away from this shop - not only did they provide an absolutely terrible service. Don't hesitate to get a second opinion when things get pricey with them - wouldn't be surprised if they're just plainly lying to sell you stuff. Lots of other options around! read more

We drove to Vancouver from California and got a nail in the tire. Called this place because it had great reviews and was close by to us. Called them to see if we needed an appointment and how long it would take. The gal who answered the phone was super friendly and gracious. Brought the car in early Sat am and was told it would be an hr. Walked to breakfast and the car was ready by the time we were done. I recently had my snow tires put on at Kal Tire on Island Highway in Nanaimo. Typically they have impeccable service. However, I was flabbergasted to learn this branch was dealing with COVID 19 protocols by keeping two doors open while it was 4 degrees outside. Many folks were not prepared for their wait which is often over one hour. I was cold with a winter jacket. However, they had an old man with a windbreaker shivering away. While I understand we need to take precautions regarding the pandemic Kal Tire can certainly address this issue in a more humane way. As an absolute minimum, they should be telling customers who book appointments what to prepare for in their waiting room! read more

Found a screw in my tire and brought it in to Kaltire on Main Street for repairs. Not only was it fixed in a day, I called back to ask if they could put it on for me and had an appointment the very next day (it was too late for me to go that night). When I brought my car in, they said they'd be 30 minutes. Not only did they switch out the spare for my repaired tire, but they packed it neatly back in my car with the jack and all the tools. When I went to pay, they wouldn't let me. Seriously. The guy just said come back and buy your next set of tires from us. Amazing customer service and what a brilliant way to build loyalty. Took my car in at 9:30 to check a puncture and was told it would take a couple hours. When I called at 12:30 I was told it would "be ready when it's ready" and given no time estimate. Needless to say I was frustrated when 3:00 rolled around and I had no idea if I'd even get my car back. As it turns out their text notification system was apparently down, and my car was ready since 12:00. They apologized and comped me the repair so all is forgiven. I had a slow leak in one of my tires, and dropped my car off. They called to tell me that the sidewall of the tire was damaged and that it would need to be replaced. Luckily I had anticipated this, and brought along a full-sized spare tire which I left in my trunk and informed them. It was the only thing in the trunk. It cost $45 to do the changeover + balancing, but since every shop in the vicinity was very busy with Vancouverites switching to their snow tires (for some reason), I was fine with the cost. When I picked my car up, the trunk was a mess. The rear seats were flipped forward. The spare tire wheel well cover was open, and all the items that I had neatly packed - load straps, ice scraper, tire bag, etc were out. It looked ransacked. They had no reason at all to go into that area, and even less reason to leave it in a mess. Shoddy and careless. read more

After being cheated in other auto repair shops (see previous Midas Richmond review), I don't mind driving all the way to Vancouver to see Carlos Manahan, or any of the other nice & most importantly HONEST mechanics here. I've had oil changes, a (nailed) tire repaired here, had my front wheel bearing replaced for my highlander -ALL for LOWER than the Toyota dealer's quotes. Unfortunately my experience does not reflect the reviews here. This is a double whammy because it's the second "0" star review for a kal tire. The first bad experience was at the Ontario and Marine Dr. location which I visited one year ago. I retracted that review as they compensated for the trouble. However this is a second Kal tire that has also compensated for my trouble which is a key sign that I should warn others of their poor service and hopefully help others from "wasting" their time at this franchise. long story short at this Main st. location: -booked an appointment one day ahead for 4wheel alignment for my Honda -came back to pick up car after 2.5hrs, machine was down, alignment was not done -came back again, alignment done but one wheel still out of alignment as shown from their computer print out. -I told them to redo the alignment again, they said it could not be done, I said I know it can be done because I have seen the adjustment rod under the car, they asked their mechanic, they apologized for their mistake, I was not charged. -They wasted an extra 2.5hrs of my day off due to their poor service and the alignment is still not complete! Yes some staff were courteous but a %100 refund in the alignment does not cover for the loss of half my day and the frustration having to deal with their incompetence. Not everyone has a mechanic's background to cover their own back, unfortunately this shop won't cover your back either. read more

I got myself a flat tire driving around and had to fix it fast. When I called them, they said it was first come first served, but I was desperate and went anyway. When I got there, there was no line and they began fixing my tire. After waiting around for a bit, I proceeded to wait to pay for the tire repair. The mechanic was talking with another staff member, and after a few moments he said, all done... no charge. NO CHARGE!?!?! I couldn't believe it. I was a first time customer there. They said as part of their true service event, they just hope I'll buy some tires from them next time. Great service and friendly people! read more

While everyone at Kal Tires was professional and courteous...they did not do their job. We had a rental car that got a flat caused by driving over a stray nail. We were told by the rental company to take it to Kal Tires. The mechanic took a look and said it wouldn't be a problem. They were quite busy so we waited an hour and a half while they patched the tire. As I said, everyone was very pleasant and they only charged us $33. We left feeling confident and with a receipt stating the car was fixed and all looked good. BUT the next day we went to get the car and the tire was completely flat again. We looked, no nail, just not a good patch job. The flat caused us to almost miss our flight, as well as an extra day charge from our rental car company. I just feel like if you specialize in tires...this should have be a slam dunk. No such luck. read more

Seems to be an ok place for tire stuff, but they recommended a bunch of service to my wife that was bordering on dishonest. Advised her that the brakes needed to be done as well as calipers, advised that's whole bunch of bushings needed to be replaced. Total suggested bill was $3500. I intervened and took it to my mechanic that said that my car needed nothing and brakes would be good for another 2 years based on our driving. I even got a second opinion that confirmed the diagnosis. So stay well away for anything mechanical. read more

I bought tires from kal tire and just care about the brand of tire(Michelin),then i took my car back to them for wheel alignment one week later the WA did not work , went back to them and told them still i have same problem they told me this is not the WA problem since your tires are to old and worn out, i told them these are your tires and keep it quite. For my birthday i was invited to go to victoria and drove down there i found out is dangerous to drive with these tires.upon coming back to Vancouver i went to them and told them about the problem .since the find out i have the warranty the offer me the "better" tires for the same price that i bought the older one.I was so mad and this is not fare i can buy these tires at Costco for the same price and better services in Canada and US.However after all these argument the give me just four hundred discount which did not make me happy. I went here to fix a nail puncture and they scratched up the edge of my wheel really badly!!! And then they dressed up all my tires and wheel edges with some dirty oil to hide the damage they did (so I would think the scratches are old and was there before). Sure enough they claimed that the scratches were there before and refused to pay for any damages. These guys are extremely incompetent and deceptive. DO NOT take your car here, especially if it's an exotic. read more

I've had the pleasure of getting great service here twice. The first was when getting a set of winter ready tires back during the snow of Dec '16. They called to let me know of a last minute cancellation and had my tires on and ready to go hours before I expected. The second was just today where they promptly repaired a punctures tire under warranty. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with good advice and not trying to needlessly upsell the costumer on services and products they don't need. Ok guys, I went back to the shop, Steve was very courteous in knowing the issue and he quickly took my car inside to get it checked. They will definitely make you to trust them and their work. Then I got the news saying there was many puncture holes in the tire, and recommended to buy a new tire as if they would have fixed the leak then some days it will again leak because the puncture holes was close to each other. Overall I can't rate this shop more than 2 as at beginning itself if they would have told me about this problem I would have opted a tire Change instead of the wheel bearing change. I ended paying a lot of money for the mistake they did. I don't have any problem going back here as they give very good customer satisfaction, but make sure u don't opt for whatever they say immediately and end up paying a huge sum of money !! __________________________________________________ Guys, Please ignore the below comment, These people are just a rip off, I had given my car for a leak repair on one of the back tire and It looks like it's not fixed. The leak is still there and they have repaired some other stuff which is unrelated and charged me $350 for it, off course I had told them to repair it but they have missed to fix the Main issue that I had opted for ! Needed new tires, and picked the Nokian all-weather as a good all-around tire with the mountain-snowflake for winter driving to the ski hill. Great prices - $185 per tire for an SUV. Booked an appointment online, showed up, and left the car (they said 2 hours). Less than 90 minutes later the car was ready. One of the employees chased me down after I'd dropped off my car, to return my credit card that I'd left on the counter. Everyone was friendly, prices were great, the car was ready early, and the tire-selection and booking the appointment online made the experience super easy. read more

I was super frustrated by the mansplaining I had to endure, 3x in one afternoon, by the entire staff at this location. I have been getting my tires done at various kaltire locations for several years now, because they say they are consistent in their service at every location. I tried to get my winter tires mounted at the Main St location on Friday. They said they would fit me in. I dropped my car off at 8 AM. They checked the tread before I left at 8 AM, and agreed that these tires looked pretty new still. At 2 PM they called and told me they couldn't legally change my tires. Apparently their tread codes changed in 6 months. From [April to October] when the kaltire tire service centre I went to informed me during my Winter-to-Summer tire change, that I could use my winter tires at least one more, if not two more seasons. The location I went to for my October seasonal tire change, despite the fact kaltire approved the current winter tires I have, they refused to change my tires. And remember, it doesn't matter which location as they are all considered the same, as this is one company. When I arrived to pick up my car, two service reps began to explain the reasons, again. I politely stopped them and asked for my keys to my car. They continued to explain their reasons, despite my request to NOT hear it a second time. I thanked them and proceeded to leave. I reminded them I felt I was lied to by the service reps from the other location. They got defensive and told me they wanted to explain the reasons why. And I had already heard these reasons, 2x by then. I stopped them again and demanded my keys for the second time. They reluctantly gave them to me. I walked out and went to my car that was parked on the east side of their service station. The service rep who gave me my keys came fumbling out of the garage with a cart with my tires. The time was 5 pm, so 3 hours after they called me. I was shocked that my tires weren't in my car already. [Throughout the time I was there, three times, they tried to convince me to purchase brand new tires. I refused.] and when I was unlocking my car the service rep once again started explaining the reasons why they refused to put perfectly safe tires onto my car. Including trying to force me to look at the tire tread tool in his hand. [which is a tool the size of my small finger with tiny numbers on it] and then my tires fell off the cart, & I had to pick them up and load them into my car, myself. The service rep continued to explain the same reasons to me regarding their safety standards, rather than helping me load the tires into my car, & again telling me why they hadn't changed my tires. So, 3x they felt the need to persist in telling me why they wasted my entire day, then added insult to injury, so to speak, by making me pick up my tires off of an active city street, and load them myself, into my car. Also, I had asked them the two times they continued explaining their company policies to me, to please stop talking. I was insulted, frustrated and to be honest, furious about the mansplaining. I tried to be assertive and all that got me was their need to come out on top, and the continued refusal to provide the service I was there to pay them for. The fact that they went to extremes to keep talking when I kept asserting myself and went from asking them to demanding that they stop explaining their reasons for not changing my tires, was more maddening than not getting my tires changed. Maybe because I was attempting to remain calm and smiled throughout my asserting myself, came across as threatening to their male egos. All I know is this, I will never purchase tires from them again. Nor will bring my tires there to get changed nor repaired through kaltire, ever again. As a woman who has driven various vehicles with various types of tires, [sizes, seasonal, and various wear of tread] for 33 years, I'm beyond insulted. I have driven vintage cars and trucks, as well as brand new vehicles, and I used to do this seasonal maintenance myself, so I'm not naive. I'm quite well versed in car culture. I've driven AMC vehicles, and had them serviced & that company went out of business in 1980. So I have had to source small to major parts for vehicles and help install them half the time. Buyers beware, kaltire cares more about their egos, & selling new tires every season, than they do about return customers. They will change their policies from season to season and not care that they put their customers into vulnerable situations. They do not work in collaboration with other kaltire locations. I have had mostly good experiences from this shop. They are often quite busy so you have to make an appointment. On one occasion that I had an appointment to get my winter tires put on, they told me it would be 45 min so I decided to walk over to the seawall. I ended up returning 90 minutes later to find that they had forgotten to put the winter tires on. Winter is coming and I needed those tires out of my back seat. read more

Terrible experience. I bought tires here and it turns out that they were not balanced properly so I brought them back to be re-balanced. I dropped off my car and they told me to come back in an hour. I came back after 1.5 hours and asked if it was done. They said "yup!" and I got the car back. When I drove it, it didn't feel like they had balanced it at all. At the time, I thought maybe there was another issue, so I took it to Weissach for some other service and mentioned the balancing issue. They said that re-balancing should have fixed the problem but they would take another look at it. I got the car back and the vibration was gone! That's when I discovered that Kal-tire never bothered to balance it at all and only said they did. Horribly company. Would never do business with them ever again. read more

A very frustrating experience - have a flat and sure I totally understand this is the season to change from summer to winter tires, but give a girl a break, I was told no appointments, first come first served so on third attempt I arrived at 7:15am, first in line to be told I couldn't be helped until around 8:30 as other already booked in and would take about an hour!!! I booked an appointment on Saturday Kal Tire for 4:30pm today for an alignment and tire change and that it would take 45 minutes to an hour. When I arrived and FINALLY got to the front of the line at 4:55, I was told it would be 90 minutes and they had no record of my tire change. If you book an appointment in my office for 4:30, I see you at 4:30 and I have you out the door by 5:30. Not 6:30. Very unprofessional and a waste of my time. read more

I have been going to this location for many years and have always had excellent service. Kal Tire is the Canadian distributor for Nokian and this week I purchased their winter tires. I was quoted a price, told to bring my car in the next morning and picked my Volvo up at 7 pm. tires installed and old ones taken away. Service was friendly and the counter staff went the extra mile to inform me I could apply for a $70 rebate from the manufacturer. Yes my car was there all day and ball was in my court to keep checking in on it but this is a crazy time of year for Kal Tire. These guys work around the clock to get people ready for winter. I think they do their very best under extreme circumstances and I couldn't be happier with the new smooth ride I'm experiencing with these fantastic winter tires. Safety first my friends. I had the best auto repair experience ever. I took in my punctured tire for repair. I was told by the manager that it would be repaired during the evening and I could pick it up the following morning. When I came in to pick it up I received amazing service. I told him that I purchased all my tires for my SUV at a Kal Tire and that I would do it again. Since I just need the repair for one I my others are currently fine. He listened and let me have a complimentary repair on the house. I will be back and will tell all my friends to visit the Main Street Kal Tire. They are the best! read more
