Be prepared to wait in some lines for the bigger rides. This place is overwhelming to say the least and there are more screaming and crying children than you will ever encounter anywhere else in an enclosed building or compound. There is a water-themed attraction for any age group. The Cheetah race is fun with 3 other kids or friends. The wave pool is fun for the entire family. The food is about as unhealthy as you will get, but the family can detox when they get back home. There is a buffet that is decent and varietal for everyone's taste buds. I ate a mountain of crab legs and topped it off with fruit covered chocolate from their chocolate fountain. There is an arcade room for the kids once they tire of the waterpark for the evening. My husband daughters Brother in law sister in law and nieces we visiting om a day pass well my sister in law and I were breast feeding and both of us were told my life guard that we needed to cover up or go yo bathroom to finish in front of a bunch of people completely embarrassing us when our husband's came to see why we were crying they told life guard that wasn't acceptable. Safety first. If you get a cabanas, get the one on the ground. The mezzanine is nice, but we have GPs and children and steps can b unsafe. Now, when I came back for an upgrade I was told to get to the back of the line- bad service, as if I just walked in off the street. It would have been better for the staff to yell UPGRADE and celebrating me moving to the next available cashier. Food offerings were mostly bar food, so may have to go off site to get more options-esp if you want a healthier fare. Definitely not how it used to be. Prices are higher than ever before but it looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 2000s. When we arrived, our shower curtain was stained and smelled of mildew and we had to get it changed. The tub was also cracked and peeling. On top of that, our hotel room had a serious ant problem. We woke up to ants all over the night stand and a few in the bed, as well as a huge infestation in the recycling/trash bin. The water park if anything has less features than before and it's not cleaned often as it seemed food and other items were left behind by other guests. Will definitely not be back until there's some improvements. read more

Shitty resort. Rooms Check in took like 30-40mins. Rooms appear clean and nice looking for the most part. The bedding is similar to thin cardboard... The pillows are hard like rocks. the bedding was tucked in in such a way that I could barely untuck it to get out of bed at night to go to the bathroom. The toilet continuously flushes without warning. The walls are PAPER THIN. I heard kids from both sides of the walls all night and plus all the people walking back and forth through the hall. Waterpark As soon as you walk through the door to the waterpark its like a different world. ABSOLUTELY NO COVID PRECAUTIONS ARE FOLLOWED BY ANYONE. Chairs and tables impossible to get, come extra early. Towels and life vests provided. You have to wait inline to get into the wave pool for some reason. It does not seem like they enforce a certain limit of people or anything. Kinda strange. My daughter seemed yo like the slides, but I wish there were more tube slides instead of body-slides. Food Biggest disappointment! Sortinos was the worst italian restaurant I have ever been to. Felt like i was eating tv dinners. The owner actually had replicas of himself every wear it was rather hilarious. B-LUX I can't judge I didn't go there, because their menu was just not appealing for me personally (all high calorie unhealthy food choices). They have a breakfast bar as well, but the wait times are really long. 40 minutes... I gave up and went to "starbucks". This "starbucks" was not like a real starbucks. Their drinks were not good. The bakery items were old and stale ( I don't believe they throw them out at night). There is a candy/ice cream place thats just ok. Alcohol beverages are mediocre. Not many choices. We booked a trip to Kalahari for my fiancé's birthday. A few of us went. We booked a basic room for a Sunday-Monday trip. The room was $199 a night and it included a night's stay, plus admission to waterpark for 4 peoole. Check in day you could enter at noon and you can stay all of you check out day. In a sense, that is $50 a person. General admission for Kalahari is over $50, so basically you get a hotel stay plus free day at the waterpark for the price of one day's admission. Its an amazing deal and an affordable vacation. Check in was a breeze and we were informed that we got a complimentary upgrade to the African Queen Suite! 2 bedrooms, 2 bathroom (one was a master bath), livingroom ,fireplace, patio.. Master bath had a jet tub and other bathroom had a walk in shower. The room was beautiful and we were so so thankful for the upgrade. The resort itself is nice. There are 3 full service restaurants (including buffet) plus a other options for food, a coffee shop and candy shop. We ate at The Reserve. The food was ok.. a little overpriced but it was good. As for the waterpark, we had a great time. Comparing to Splash Lagoon, Kalahari seemed larger and the slides were def better. The swim up bar is amazing plus the 21+ indoor/outdoor hot tub allows you to take drinks in. Speaking of drinks, the drink menu was amazing. A souvenir glass is $30 (includes 6 shots!). You can refill with any drink for $20 for the rest of you stay. Overall we enjoyed our little mini vacation. Every worker that we came in contact with was so pleasant. They must treat their employees well. If I must choose a downside, it would be the wildlife park. We had a view of it from our room. Compared to the gigantic resort, the wildlife park is tiny.. Even the wave pool seemed larger than their habitat. Anyways the animal activist in me had to mention that. Other than that, phenomenal stay! Highly recommend. read more

We paid a ridiculous amount for 2 day's thinking we would at least get house keeping , but Nope, apparently you have to request that also I was told one price the phone, yet charged almost 100usd more upon check in ... I have been coming to Kalahari since they opened their doors in Sandusky, OH. For the most part we have always had a great time and when we didn't guest services would be accommodating. But this May 2019. I received the best customer service I have had. We were walking to our room in the Sands South when we met Erdis. Erdis, who works in the maid service, greeted us as we were walking down the hall like family. He had a big smile on his face. Asked us if there was anything he could do to make our stay more welcomed. We talk about maybe needing late check out. He said he would follow up with us. The next morning Erdis knocked on our door and asked us if we needed to stay until 12 pm. We actually ended up not needing to stay later. I was so touched that he remembered our conversation and not even that but went out of his way to come to our room in the morning and help us. Never in all my years at Kalahari did I have someone who was as compassionate, hard working, and friendly. He made what was already a great experience turn into FANTASTIC! And the experience with him makes us want to come back more often for every family outing! Thank you Erdis for treating us like family and giving the best customer service experience I ever had. I LOVE Kalahari!! I mean what's not to love about a dozen water slides, a stellar spa, beautiful rooms, and delicious food???? My husband and I decided to give Kalahari a try after hearing to many awesome things about it. The drive from the Metro Detroit area was only two hours! When we arrived around noon, our room was already prepared and cleaned for us! It had a flat screen TV, fireplace, and jacuzzi. It also had a microwave and mini fridge. The water park itself was fantastic! If you come in the evening or early morning you can avoid the lines. There is also an arcade as well as glow put-put golf. There are many restaurants (which are a bit pricey) from which to choose. The spa is excellent! I had a pedicure with chocolate mask and it left my feet feeling super soft and looking very beautiful. The technician was very friendly and personable. Also there are swim up bars, adult only hot tubs, and more! I would recommend this place for families, couples, or just groups of people looking for a fun weekend away! read more

I'm going to use Great Wolf Lodge in comparison since that's the bulk of my family's experience. Here's a quick list: - GWL is no comparison in size; Kalahari is enormous. - The internal dining options are about a tie. - Both have comfy rooms. - Kalahari has significantly more slide/ride/activity variety than GWL. - Wait-times for rides are significantly longer at Kalahari. - GWL has a more comfortable atmosphere, in my opinion. - Kalahari's wave-pool was excellent..but too long of a stretch between wave periods. - Kalahari's zip-line was cool..but I saw two people become stranded within a short period. It would sound like I'm saying that Kalahari is much better, but I'd choose GWL in a heartbeat. Kalahari felt too big for it's own good. Lots to do, but lots of people. And waiting in line for 20 minutes became the norm, which can be unpleasant when you've come out of the water only to stand in line for 20-30 minutes. My kids loved it, but they also complained about the wait-times. This is an IMPORTANT note: Apparently, Kalahari's size requires that it leave certain balcony lights on ALL NIGHT. According to the staff, this is a law (I don't remember if it's state or federal) that's meant to help airplane pilots. I don't have a problem with helping pilots, but I have a problem with their solution. The light for my balcony was one that had to remain on ALL NIGHT, and it is BRIGHT. THERE IS NO SWITCH TO TURN IT OFF. We "suffered" through it the first night, but the 2nd night I had to rig together a blanket solution to cover the balcony door and window. I'd recommend that you check your room for this light, and request a switch if possible. BUT....I guess if you make the most of each day and night, you'll be too tired to care either way. :-) I'd heard nightmares about the check-in process, but it wasn't that bad for us. We did the early "registration" to be able to swim, and they said we should call a certain number after 2:00pm to see if our room is ready. Ours was ready at around 2:15pm. The staff was very nice, with the exception of the housekeeping supervisor. We had a clogged toilet, I told her they could enter the room....four hours later we still had a clogged toilet. My wife called to inquire...the supervisor decided to tell us how bad her day was going...then sent a guy who responded in 5 minutes and snaked the toilet. Also, there were times when the room phone didn't work (literally); picking up the receiver and pressing ANY button produced an error tone of some sort. This happened three times; one of those times it lasted for about 10 minutes, the others about 10-15 seconds. As for the dining, pass on the restaurants. There's a dessert place that is excellent, and a good carry-out snack/breakfast joint, but the main-core restaurants are mediocre, your best bet is to find something offsite. We probably won't be back, unless we get a good deal. GWL wins for us because of how intimate and less-busy it seemed. GWL may not have the ride variety, but having less wait-time helps greatly. At a certain point GWL will begin to feel too "kiddy", but for now, it gives us a better family fun factor. read more

I'm reviewing the Indoor Waterpark only. We were not guests at the resort. We bought day passes in advance (per requirements on their website). To check into the park, you have to walk through their very loud, bright, busy arcade. This is where sensory overload began for us. No matter where we were in the park, we often had to raise our voices or shout to engage in basic conversation because the sound of the waves, water games, slides, and coaster produced a constant ambient noise that left us all with headaches by the end of the day. That said, here are things we loved: The wave pool was excellent. The ZigZag Zebra and Zimbabwe Zipper slides were fast, dark, exciting, and fun. Victoria Falls was also good, though we had to divide our family of four because they only allow 3 in the raft (but check out the pic on their website that shows 4). All good though, we still enjoyed the ride. Leopard's Lair provided thrilling exploration for our 5 year old. Flow rider was fantastic. Not only did our kids have fun, but their lifeguards gave a little extra time and attention to our 5 year old so she could enjoy it and feel successful. The lazy river was a great escape, and the Zip Coaster was zippy and fun! Just watch your neck when it comes to a jolting stop at the end! Things we didn't love. Food prices are annoyingly overpriced, as they are at most places like this. $62 for 3 burgers and fries, one order of mini corndogs, one bag of chips, and 4 drinks. No thanks. Kids kept saying they were still hungry, but we just left the park at dinner time. Biggest disappointment: Storm Chaser. My 12 year old was super excited for this "video game" ride based on website previews. He took time to set up a profile to track his scores, choose his music, and advance levels, which again increases the hype. You think this is going to be cool. And.... flop. He and I both rode in separate tubes. Mine played music, but the ride was super short, and it was so dark I couldn't see the buttons on my board, and I couldn't tell what effect (if any) it had when we pushed them. Even worse for him, after he picked his music and was super psyched about it, his tube played nothing. He just had a quiet, fast ride down some colorful tubes with a board that had buttons that didn't seem to do anything. We got no special instruction before going down the tubes, so I have no idea if they expect the ride experience to be different than what it was for us: an epic dud. Best of the day: Flow Rider was a great experience for both our kids, and their staff was excellent. We only spent 6 hours at the park, so there is plenty we didn't do. While my review isn't raving, we did have fun. There is plenty to do and explore that it would be difficult to not find fun things to do, just with the caveat that it will be loud, constantly stimulating, and your people (big and small) may exhaust quickly from it. My son's review is summed up in two words: fun, headache. Or- maybe you like the big, loud, and flashy - in which case, kick my review up one star. read more

I bring my family here once or twice a year and we always have a good time. The place is big. Perhaps even too big. I would recommend booking your reservations by phone and requesting a room in one of the two wings immediately adjacent to the Water Park. If you wind up at one of the far off "Sands Entrance" wings, you'll find yourself walking a very annoying distance just to get from your room to anywhere interesting at the resort. Overall it's a fairly affordable family vacation, for all kinds of budgets. If you come at the right time, and find the right deals, and eat your meals off-site (or bring your own food) you can do 2 nights here with a family of 4 under $300 total. Or you can live it up and drop a grand or more on a suite and deluxe accommodations. Your choice. But it can definitely be done on the cheap if so inclined. The water park itself is very nice. There are lots of large/aggressive slides for older kids as well as hot tubs and swim-up bars for the adults (tip: If you buy a giant cocktail, save your cup, and it will knock $7 or $8 or so off the price of your refills). They have a couple of play areas for toddlers and small children. My kids are both very young currently (under 5 years old) and Kalahari kind of seems like overkill for them. Still need to try out Great Wolf, which I have heard is better for the little ones (then start coming back to Kalahari after they get older). I recommend coming to Kalahari Memorial Day and Labor Day so the outdoor water park will be open. Not only does it add to the # of attractions you can visit (lots of pools and slides and kiddie play areas outside) but you can cut across the outdoor area to get to the main indoor waterpark, if you happen to be unfortunately lodged over in the far-away "Sands" section of the resort. The non-waterpark attractions are serviceable if nothing special. Couple of decent family restaurants (pricey but not bad for "resort prices", all things considered). A very nice and well maintained Arcade with ticket games. A Spa and Business Center (I've never used either). A creepy safari with copious caged up critters, including the saddest giraffes I have ever seen. At this place you'll have the luxury of spending $20 on a small bucket of carrots and oats to hand-feed the very miserable-looking animals. Not recommended. Side Note: My favorite thing about Kalahari is the stop at Tony Packo's in Toledo that we make every time, on the drive down from Detroit. So take that for what you will. read more

All i can say is wow. What a disappointment! This was the second time my family has gone here. The first time was wonderful and we had a fantastic time and we decided to make the 5 hour drive again. I feel that everything has gone downhill since then. The restaurants have changed and everything is so much more expensive! We were better off going to down to the mall and eating at outside restaurants instead. I recommend you dont lose anything and pray that you dont have a vending machine steal your money. Expect to pay for your own shipping and handling to get your stuff back. Expect to then find out they located your belongings the day you reported them lost and no one bothered to actually look for you. I was charged twice for shipping and have had nothing but the run around to try and get reimbursed. If a vending machine backfires on you, plan on standing in line to have to fill out a form, ( if they have it available... if not that another 15-20 minute wait) stating where and what happened I do not think i will go back or recommend it anymore to anyone. read more

We upgraded to the presidential suite. That is the only thing I could give 5 stars to. The food here is subpar and we had to wait to eat breakfast for 20 minutes when there were 20-30 tables open. And with the water park. It is the biggest water park I have been to in a long time. That was nice. I don't like the fact they have life guards with sticks that have measuring tape on them. If you kid is not 48" they are going to make your kids were a life vest. Not cool at all when my kids can swim and know more about water safety then the guards in here. I would not recommend this place to for a vacation spot. 7 hour drive for this. Not happy at all. If I wouldn't lose all the money I have on this place. I would pick up and go somewhere else. So as of our cheer competition is now over. We had the privilege to have some of the parents back up to our room. And the security and manager showed up at the door threatening to evict us out of our room cause we were so called being to loud. And mind you at 9pm on a Saturday. Really!! I know I Yelp every now and then. But to anyone who see this please think twice about staying in this "prison" of a hotel. Twice as big as Great Wolf Lodge but in my opinion only half as fun. We spent time at Great Wolf in Mason, OH, so when comparing the two I am comparing to the Great Wolf Mason branch, not the Sandusky branch. Kalahari was definitely much much bigger, but I don't think it was necessarily better. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, check-in was terrible. There are actually two separate hotels, the main one and then the Sands hotel which is connected to the park, but a very long walk away. I wish I knew there were two separate hotels, I would have deliberately chosen the main one. The Sands had a very very tiny lobby. When we checked in, there were about twenty families ahead of ours, no joke, and only two check in people! Ridiculous! It was about 2 pm on a Thursday afternoon. Imagine what a weekend would be like! We ended up leaving, grabbing lunch and then heading back, by that time the crowd had thinned to about 5 families ahead of us. I found Kalahari to be worn down in need of many repairs. For example, the paint surfaces in many of the pools was chipping off. As far as cleanliness, I found Great Wolf to be much cleaner in both the waterpark aspect and the hotel-room aspect. It is VERY LOUD in the indoor park. This is exacerbated by the fact that they have BLARING music playing throughout the park, I found the music to be totally unecessary and annoying. Imagine all the parents trying to capture their kids' attention over that noise, so yeah, lots of parents yelling at their children. There is also an outdoor park, but we didn't venture out there, it was over ninety degrees and we didnt' feel like gearing up with sunscreen. Speaking of sunscreen, the water here is much murkier than water at Great Wolf and I believe it's due to the sunscreen that people use if they're using both the indoor at outdoor portion. Murky water...ick. I realize it's a public waterpark and there's always going to be germs of some kind, (thank goodness for chlorine!), but the cloudy water factor is kind of nasty. Overall an OK experience. I would not return here, it is over four hours from our home, we also have the Mason Great Wolf only an hour away, so no reason to venture this far out again. read more

I can't think of any complaints! We stayed here for a wintertime getaway where we could pretend it wasn't winter anymore in tropical Ohio! Hahahaha.... Our room was comfortable and quiet (at least I thought so - hubby woke up around midnight when he heard kids playing in the hall). The food at the restaurant was okay, but that was what we'd heard from other people that had been there as well. The water park was very cool. Being a mom of a toddler, I mostly checked out the childrens' areas. They were great! We were there on a Thursday and Friday, so it wasn't very crowded. Our daughter decided she was scared of water now, so she didn't party it up like she might have, but she didn't get splashed or knocked down, so it was all good. Oops! One last bit of suggestion - We were already checked out of our room but allowed in the water park til 3, so that left us getting ready for the next part of our road trip in the changing room. What is zoo. We went there the day after New Year's Day, with a bunch of family. Our room is about 300 bucks for the night. Granted, it is a destination resort, but 300 bucks is kinda hefty. So I'll start with the room. The room was very nice the beds were nice and soft sheets were clean carpet was vacuumed and had a really cool fireplace in the room that was controlled by timer. The only downside is that if you leave that fireplace on it will beat you out of that room. In order to eat there, you can expect to pay highly elevated prices just like neighboring Cedar Point Amusement Park. They basket of fries with 5 bucks not too bad I guess. Slice of pizza with 6 bucks and then if you wanted some actual protein it went to the teens real fast. As far as the water slides go everything was working but the lines were insane and you had could expect to wait quite a long time to get on some of the rides. I am particularly liked two surfing pools where you jump in on a wakeboard and you can ride a wave so to speak. It's really not that difficult and you don't have to be overly coordinated to have a little fun. However you only get a minute. There is an adults only swim up bar and hot tub however it is not private so don't get any ideas that you're going to go skinny dipping. There is also another family / kids hot tub and I am always wary of public hot tubs. They do a bad job of counting the number of people they allow into it apparently you're only allowed 40 people in this large heated pool which seems kind of low to me. It seems vary over chlorinated however you would expect it to be with that many people in there. Just like an amusement park, the lines were very very long and the rides did not go that fast. However if you are able to be willing to run around there are quite a few rides that are pretty decent that you can get on and off rather quickly. One huge downside of going here is you need to bring your own towels. Because if you use their towels, it will rip the skin off your body. The towels are dreadful and very small so you would be better off if you just brought your own towels. If you want the lesson in anatomy there are plenty of bellies and butts hanging out everywhere and people that have no business somewhere that are not either age appropriate or appropriate to wear in public ever. So if you have little kids are your sensitive to what they see maybe this is not exactly the place you need to be. overall I've never been here before but I wanted to try it but it is pretty pricey. read more

To be honest, I didn't really like the resort, the prices in the resort, the parking, or the water park. The rides were moderate and the pools were boring. The wave pool was really boring. It's good for kids but not great for adults. So, I went to the swim up hot tub bars to drink. Why did I give this place a 4 then? For one, the cleaning staff is amazing. They are angels! So nice and welcoming. They made this place better! Secondly, once a year, there is a nerdy convention called colossalcon. Think cosplayers + bathing suits all over the place. This is when my friends (cosplayers) and I visited. I even put on a costume and joined in. Honestly it was so much fun I'd do it again. Google it! Colossalcon! And I'll see you there. Very unsatisfied. I made a reservation weeks ago for a king size room with Jacuzzi they took a deposit and I get to the hotel to check in and THEY DONT have anymore JACUZZI ROOMS!!!!!! Sure they upgraded me but what do I need three beds and two regular bathrooms that I have at home ? The answer is I don't need that. This place is a money pit, as expected, I know. The room was nice though, seems clean and well kept. I will definitely be back here with my fiancé when she returns to America. All of the slides indoors are cool, the largest one was under repair, the basketball hoop pool was awesome, the wave pool was a little weak for my liking. I haven't been in one since Geauga Lake and that one would 1/2 drown you and leave you discombobulated. The water was salt water, wasn't really diggin' that. Made me think of everyones sweat. There are two indoor/outdoor hot tubs and another hot tub with a swim up bar. The boogey board, wave ride is my favorite. Line takes way too long. Call me lame, but Kalahari is probably one of my favorite places ever. I used to come here for dance competitions all the time as a kid, and even after staying there a whole week, I was never ready to come home. The convention center is huge and awesome, and perfect for a dance competition or probably just about anything else. The restaurants are overpriced, but I love the little bakery areas. The sports bar isn't bad either. The waterpark is a sight to behold. Amazing, and wayy more fun as an adult! An indoor-outdoor hot tub with a swim-up bar is absolute perfection. My family and I stayed at the resort July 30th-July 5th. There were 5 of us. We paid a lot of money and we felt the experience wasn't worth it. Here are a few things: Hotel room: We had a standard room for the 5 of us. My daughter had the pull-out sofa. The mattress was thin and the first night she slept on it every time she moved it made so much noise. She finally just folded it back to a sofa and slept on it. The room needs updating. Refrigerator wasn't very cold. The bathroom door handle was broken. The shower was barely working. I think the use all the water for the waterpark. The dresser for a room that can have up to 6 people only had two drawers. One had the bottom falling out. Housekeeping: Now since covid many hotels just do the minimum which is garbage, towels and refill things like coffee which is fine, and you could ask for more if you requested. We didn't however they couldn't even do the minimum. After a long day at cedar point getting back at 11:30pm, we had no clean towels, garbage wasn't cleaned etc. Called 4 times for housekeeping but we finally went to bed. Of course, we all are asleep they knock and woke us up. On another day we had went to visit family and came back to find our room propped open with the safety latch. NO ONE insight. Called front desk. They said that housekeeping was just there like 15 minutes ago so it wasn't open for long and they will talk to them about it. Food: B-Lux food was ok nothing great. Waitress was super nice. Soritino's Made reservations and this was the best food!! Portions were huge so you can share. Java Manjaro: These are the most hard-working people at the hotel. It is a Starbucks and served breakfast foods (bagels, muffins etc) and they kicked butt. Everyone was super nice. I would like to give a shout out to Merry, Lesly and Azola (sp?). The were so nice and personable. Waterpark and extra stuff: Overall this was a good experience. Arcade was on the expensive side but that happens at a tourist place. Overall I won't be back and don't think I could recommend this to other families. Not for the price we paid. read more

I would give them zero if I could. It is almost 11pm as we sit in our room with my 11 year old covered in first degree chemical burns on 70% of her body from their over sterilized pools (before it was even shut down for hours after it was noticed after God knows how long that some idiot pooped in it) and the best they offered was a security guard taking an incident report and a bag of ice. They do NOT care about your well being in the least. We have made 4 years worth of trips here and will not be back to this run down, sloppy, joke of an overpriced cesspool. read more

I spent around 700 for 2 nights. bit on the pricey side alone. Didn't think much of it because of all the good things i've heard in the past. I had done the early checkin sent through email. when i arrived i used the self check in kiosk and it failed to read my DL 3 times. No big deal, i was told to go wait in line where one person was working this took a total of 20 mins again no big deal. During the time the guy was checkin us in he actually upgraded our room which was nice but this was about the only nice thing that happened. He had given us 2 Blue Wristbands and i asked "will this charge me 200 even though you gave me 2 "room charging" bands be responded "no only 200" i said okay. later that night we had ordered room service and my card was declined and my account had been locked because i was double charged for 400 dollars. after situating that issue, the 2 burgers i ordered were cold and old. almost 40$ for 2 burgers that weren't even enjoyable because of other reasons.. this was also the cheapest food place in the resort mind you... at the end of it all.. 2 or 3 slides were closed for hours one day the raft lifters were malfunctioning also causing short ride closings. Very over priced in every aspect for what you receive. Luckily we made due! B-Lux made our 1 year anniversary enjoyable. read more

If you like sharing your room with multi-legged creatures, you'll love staying at Kalahari! My daughter wanted to do something special for her daughter's sixteenth birthday, so she booked rooms well in advance, paid in full. Unfortunately, the rooms weren't ready at the advertised check-in time, and since the kids were anxious to hit the water park she accepted the room change they offered. Luckily we're all healthy enough to have made the ridiculous walk from the lobby to the the furthest end of the facility to drop off our bags and head back to the pool. By this time it was about 5:00 and the kids were hungry so my daughter picked up a couple of pizzas and some drinks. They only got in about two hours of play and headed back to the rooms about 8:00, and I followed shortly after. I entered the room to find them all sitting with terrified expressions, my granddaughter (autistic) on the verge of hysteria, all of them hollering about a cockroach on the bedroom ceiling. I managed to throw my shoe at it and after three attempts was able to dispatch the thing. Needless to say, none of us were willing to spend the night and risk meeting the roach's grieving family, so we frantically gathered up our belongings and prepared to depart. My daughter, meanwhile, had called the front desk and after several attempts was finally able to speak to an actual human. They sent a maintenance person who inspected the corpse and declared it to be a stink bug. Well I'm no entomologist, but this thing was no stink bug (see attached photo). My daughter went to the front desk to check out and request a refund, and it's denied! They offered to give her a credit for a future stay (Are they crazy? They think we'd consider staying there?), they say they'll investigate it, then they'll have it investigated by a third party! At some point, during one of her many subsequent phone calls, she learned that the maintenance crew found a couple more "stink bugs", but no cockroaches. Really? Honestly, I don't care if they want to call them roaches or not, the room was infested with insects and she should have her nearly $800 refunded in full... that's an awful lot to pay for three hours at the water park, some crappy pizza and a couple of rooms that were too gross to sleep in. My daughter wanted to give her daughter a memorable sixteenth birthday party, but this was a disaster from beginning to end. read more

My family came here for a conference/convention for a few days (wed-sun). We stayed in a suite and I loved the kitchen and full-size fridge. Check in was pretty quick as we arrived at about 5:30 on a Wednesday. We loaded up a cart and put all our stuff in our room and then drove the 4 min to Walmart. There were a number of fast food & gas stations near the hotel. The waterpark opened at 9am and that's when we were there on Thursday. We had a great time with extremely short lines if there was a line at all! They have a huge arcade with a few deals if you (or your kids are interested in that). We did a game of mini-bowling ($5/person). We didn't eat on-site at all so I cannot comment on the food. Prices were steep as you would expect but it sounded like the food was pretty decent. I was disappointed with the waterpark. We have a 6 & 7 yr old and the majority of the slides/rides have dark (often pitch black) tunnels that you pass through for about half the length of the ride. I didn't even enjoy some of them because I want to see where I am going. The small kids waterpark, the cheetah races, lazy river, zip coated, and wave pool were favorites for our family. The place was crazy on Saturday, even at 10am. The lines were a lot longer and everywhere was crowded. There were kids running down the hallway until 12am that night. It was okay but I don't think I'd pay that much money to come back again. I spent most of my time at the conference which was hard. I would go to a place like this for a conference again because I we so torn between paying about $800 for a few nights and using the waterpark but also attending the conference I paid and registered for. The atmosphere in the hotel was amazing and that reminds me, I meant to get a smashed penny from one of the machines inside. Bah. We all had fun despite the many black tunnel rides that made us uneasy. The room was great for all of us and the full kitchen saved us tons of money. I like hat you can spend nothing or a lot to do other activities. I likely wouldn't go back but enjoyed our time there even though I didn't get to utilize the waterpark much because of my conference. read more

I was honestly shocked at how far downhill this place has gone. Went for the first time in a few years and it was pretty disgusting. We found a tampon just laying on the floor in the middle of water park and later in the day found literal poop also on the floor. Saw no employees cleaning throughout. There was an insane amount of debri floating though the wave pool. It's understandable that people will drop and lose things but there was zero upkeep. I was unaware of the fact that the resort has gone "cashless" and after standing in line for 20 minutes to buy snacks for my kids I was spoken to like I was a complete idiot for trying to hand the employee cash. Unnecessarily rude. We used to love going here but it has definitely changed for the worse read more

I bought a groupon deal in October to take my parents here to celebrate my dad's birthday it was great. We got free pizza and drinks that came with the room. The room we got was spacious and it was an adjoining room so we got one king room with a pull out couch attached to another room with two double beds - plenty of space. We also had a full kitchen that we were able to cook lunch and dinner and breakfast! Look out for those groupon deals, they are so worth it! Room Tip: Get a suite with a full kitchen! Be prepared to spend MONEY! My boyfriend and I come about twice a year for a mini get away. The summers, weekends, and holidays are extremely busy. The last couple of times we have went have been during the week when school is in session and even then it has been crowded. This past time we went (2 weeks ago) the air and water in the water park was way cooler then it ever has been before. We were shivering the whole time and had to keep going in the hot tub in between every activity. We also went through several hotel towels because we wanted to keep drying off from being so cold. I would recommend getting to the water park as soon as they open, it only gets more crowded as the day goes on. Lockers are 25-75 dollars depending on what size you need. With how crowded it gets, I would recommend getting a locker if you are bringing personal belongings. There is so much to do inside the water park, anyone of any age will not get bored. However, be prepared to deal with crowds. Book with Don White Block, it will save you money. I also suggest joining kalahari tips and tricks Facebook group, lots of good tips on there. The check in process was smooth using the kiosks. We arrived at 1:30 and our room was ready, keep in mind, this was on a Tuesday. Our room was nice and clean. I'm not sure if the kids next door to us were just extremely loud or if the walls were super thin but we could hear the entire families conversation the whole time. So be careful/mindful of that. The arcade is overpriced but it is huge and we always have so much fun so we still enjoy doing it. Most of the claw machine games were down which was disappointing. The candy hut has the best chocolate I have ever tasted. It is pricey but worth it, the lady who always is working there is extremely sweet. I love it here. As soon as I pull in, I feel like a little kid again. I do wish they would lower the prices and limit the amount of people allowed in the water park at a given time. read more

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY RESORT! marijuana smoke everywhere, filled our room and it was unbearable. People running and screaming down the halls at all hours of the night. The demographic of this place is disheartening. They are understaffed and the staff they do have are so uninterested in actually doing any work or taking care of the customers who are paying huge amount of money to stay here. The rooms are outdated and the cleanliness is subpar. We where expecting a much better family friendly resort experience for the price we had to pay to stay here. Very disappointed and we will not return. If you value your money and your time I suggest the great wolf lodge. They are 100 times better than this "Family Friendly" resort. read more

Let's start with the positives: - Free Parking - Several Food Options @ the Resort - Largest Indoor Water Park in the Midwest Now the negatives: - The first room we were put in smelled of bacon, not bad right? No, it is... everything smelled heavily of bacon. We asked for the room to be sprayed with freshener, which it was but that did not help. We were later moved to another room that smelled better, thankfully. - The rooms need to be updated and better maintained, things are scuffed, old, dark and dirty. The mattress was stained and there was hair in the bathroom. - Expect to get no sleep, the walls are thin and the neighbors are loud. - Don't go here if you expect to enjoy a nice adult getaway at the pool. The have a small adults only section that is partially outside, so if there is bad weather, you have no where to go. - Parents don't watch their children, so there are children and teenagers throwing things at each other and wrestling in the water. - Expect a long and confusing walk back to your room We were here on work, so we didn't really have a choice where we stayed. If we are given the choice next time, we won't be staying here. read more

Look under the mattress pad. If you go here, that's the first thing you should do. Ours was filthy, with little poop colored crumbles under the mattress pad. So the manager, Ian, assigned me to another room. I knew there was a good chance it would be filthy too, since the first was so bad. I advised Ian to make sure it was clean because I was going to check carefully. Any good hotel I've stayed at is always embarrassed if something like this happens and goes out of their way to make it right. Ian didn't show a lot of surprise that anything had been wrong with the first room - never a good sign, and must not have a lot of sway over the cleaning crew because the second room they took me to was pretty bad too, with lots of hair all over the top of the mattress pad. At this point, we'd been waiting around over an hour to unpack our things, the kids dying to get to the water park. Ian seemed lethargic. He barely blinked an eye at the second strike. Meanwhile, our friends arrived to check into their room, and got a free upgrade! What? I'm really happy for our friends, but I'm not even sure I've been offered an apology from the manager, much less an upgrade. I asked Ian about an upgrade for our troubles. He said that since they were going to the trouble of finding us another room and cleaning it, if necessary, that made an upgrade too much compensation. He offered us a couple of free pizzas. Well, it's something, though I wouldn't normally exchange an experience like this for a couple of pizzas. I'd prefer no pizzas and a clean room any day. Ian told us to go enjoy the water park and another room would be ready when we returned. We are back, and I am writing this from the first room with the little poop crumbles, because Ian felt that they didn't need to move us if they just re cleaned the room. Yes, I checked and the crumbles are gone, but it's still dirty with little bits of debris and tiny hairs all over. What can I do?
