First experience with Kalako was excellent. The double crust pizza was one of the best pizzas I have eaten, in recent memory, and was very reasonably priced. The box felt like it weighted 5lbs, and the pizza was very hearty & filling. Leah was very friendly & made the ordering experience nice, despite the very long backlog of orders. My wife and I used to frequent "Chicago Style Pizza" at the same location, and were very disappointed when it closed. But Kalako is a great replacement, and we are excited to visit more! read more

Since this pizza spot is next to our favorite Mexican restaurant (La Finca), we decided one late afternoon to try some take out. We had a large pan Supreme, a large thin crust Electric Kazoo, & 6 garlic parmesan chicken wings. My girl is always on the lookout for white pizzas since her digestion is strongly bothered by tomato sauce. We were told our order would take 30 minutes, so since there was no place to sit & wait other than inside our car, we decided to kill some time by driving over to the Shaver Road Wal-Mart gas station to top off the tank. The order was ready when we returned. When we got home we saw the pizzas & chicken wings seemed well prepared (i.e., nothing was burned, the pizzas had the ingredients listed on the menu). My girl did notice later that her wings were missing the additional sauce or Ranch sides. The girl finished the wings straight off and we found some Ranch dressing and some celery in the frig to fill out the meal. She found the wings meaty but otherwise tasteless. And tasteless was the verdict on the pizzas as well. I was disappointed particularly on the site's "homemade Italian sausage" which, though in a substantial amount through the Supreme pizza, was completely bland. I love the taste of licorice like flavor of fennel & anise, a classic feature of Italian sausage, and I could taste neither spice. My girl & I agreed that the single ingredient that had a noticeable flavor was the site's "homemade pickled peppers." My girl noticed that the underside of the crust of the Supreme pizza was completely black but we didn't find the topside of the pizza overcooked or burnt. Were the two pizzas so bad that we tossed in the trash what was left? No, we froze the remaining slices, and had rewarmed slices of each pizza several days later. We have found that leftover pizza sometimes tastes better. But, in this case, there was no improvement. But we were hungry, and it's cold outside, so we ate the slices. So the takeout food gets three stars, which is our "Eating it might be unsatisfying but it's better than starving" grade. But we don't see any reason to return. read more

Kalako Pizza exceeded my expectations! From the moment I called to place an order, Leah was incredibly kind and helpful. When I arrived, Kody was hard at work, and the entire experience was smooth and welcoming. I ordered a little after they opened for a few hours later. It was ready right when I showed up! I had to call twice but after reading articles and reviews online, I expected them to be busy! My wife and I ordered a deep dish supreme pizza, cheese bread, a chicken pesto sandwich, tiramisu, and strawberry shortcake. The aroma in the car on the way home was mouthwatering, and when my wife and I opened the boxes, we were blown away--everything looked absolutely stunning! The deep-dish pizza had a phenomenal crust--perfectly crisp yet soft inside, with amazing flavor. The strawberry shortcake was just as delicious as it looked. We're saving the chicken pesto sandwich for lunch tomorrow, but it already looks incredibly fresh and tasty. Overall, Kalako Pizza delivers on both quality and service. First time checking out Kalako tonight. Wow! So delicious. We had the deep dish - square cut. It was fantastic! Excellent sauce. The crust was a bit burnt on the edges, which was great! The staff were super friendly and engaging. It's a very small space, and they're just in there slinging pies and wings. Oh, and the smoked wings were some of the best I've had. We tried Kalako pizza for the first time tonight and loved it. We had been warned about the wait times being long, which is to be expected with a new business and them having one oven down! When we ordered they told us it would be an hour and that's how long we waited! The pizza was delicious we had the double stuffed crust (think Chicago style pizza) and a thin pizza with meatball and sausage. Solid 3.5 (I rounded up since they're relatively new, a small local business, and were incredibly punctual). I had a pan pizza with pepperoni and sausage. The sausage was good (and huge), toppings were generous (maybe a little too generous with the sauce), dough/crust was thick (even thickness from the middle all the way through the end crust), lacking a little in flavor and maybe a little under. If I lived closer, this would be a go-to spot but not sure I'll make the trip across town for it again when my favorite local place is the same distance from me in the opposite direction. I definitely recommend it over the chains though, and it might be my #3 pizza place in town behind the GOAT Martini's and the very good but overpriced Erbelli's. read more

My wife and I have been wanting to try this place, as we drive by it every day, so today we did, and it was worth the stop. We ordered by phone and had about an hours wait. It was just coming out of the oven when we arrived. We had about a 10 minute drive home, so it was still warm when we got home and smelled wonderful all the way there. Usually we have to pop our take out in the air fryer to warm it up but it was still pretty warm so I immediately had a small slice while we warmed up the rest. It was a large (14") sausage and mushroom regular crust and red sauce. They offer several sauce styles and crust variations. So, how was it you ask? It was very good. The crust was crunchy, sauce was very good too. The toppings were fresh, and good quality, but I felt they were a little sparse, for a $20 pizza. I would definitely recommend and would return to try other toppings and styles. The people working there were very pleasant and from what I could see it was clean and kept that way during prep. No inside dining. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be sorry. read more

Ok so what a rollercoaster. We ordered on the website and either it didn't say or we missed that our order of a pizza and bread would take 3 hours and 42 min. We laughed and said, well, let's snack and wait as we wanted to try the new place. Arrived 3 hours and 42 min later and they hadn't started the order yet. We got the pizza after 4 hours and 26 min. Not kidding. We realized that we theoretically could have driven to the edge of Chicago and returned with Chicago pizza from the source. And the people working seemed to work hard. Maybe not enough ovens? But how was it? Actually pretty good. Better than nearly every place in kzoo honestly (got a soft spot for buddys). So we will go back once they figure out the time issue. Placed an order online at 4:00 for a 6:45 pickup. Got there at 6:45 to pick up, was told they got slammed after I placed my order and it would be another hour wait. Opted for a refund instead. Would have been nice to get a phone call to be told that before driving 40 minutes to pick it up. I understand it's new and they're figuring things out but that's just ridiculous. They were taking orders while I was waiting. Maybe stop taking orders until you can fill the ones already made. Very unorganized. read more

I ordered a pizza, cannolis, garlic bread on a Saturday night at 6:39p. I live about 22 min away. My order stated that it would be ready at 7:40p. I started my drive and at 7:34p when I was 6 min away, they called me and stated that they wouldn't be able to make my order because they ran out of dough. I asked for a refund and haven't received one yet for the $39 I spent. I would've liked to have tried the food, but not sure I will order again. They were apologetic, but you'd think on a Saturday night they'd make sure to have enough dough. You're a pizza place. Very disappointed. read more

Not overly impressed. Got their regular pizza the first time, and their deep dish the second time I ordered. Both times it was very salty. I'm not sure if it's the cheese they use or their sauce but it's extremely salty. Chicago Style was much better - this is like a cheap imitation that is too salty and lacks the flavor of Chicago style. They really need to figure out a system for their service too. Recently they disabled their online ordering system, plus they don't answer the phone. The ONLY way to order is to go there and order in person, and then it is always a 2 hour minimum wait time till your pizza is ready. Not worth it. I miss Chicago Style! read more

Had Kalako pizza tonight and they did not disappoint!! The flavor was so good. Super fresh ingredients. Their Italian sausage was some of the best I had. The crust was perfectly done ,crisp with a slight burn. The way I love it. Definitely will be back. They are a new business so order early because they are super busy. I ordered on line and it went well. We had the supreme traditional crust and I must say excellent!! Can't wait to try their deep dish. When you're not in a hurry to eat show them some love.
