I have long wanted to try this location, and especially the Reuben grinder (OMG). So, we meandered down Shaver on a gorgeous fall day. The parking lot (watch for the big pothole!) faces a beautifully gladed small woods. I was looking forward to eating outside in this little slice of nature. There are a few tables and chairs outside the building, located under the roof, which is helpful. The menu is either taped to the counter or as a sheet you can look at (see photo). There are a TON of choices! The staff was so kind and funny. We enjoyed talking with her. I got the Reuben and my husband got the House Specialty: Italian. These are hot subs, so you go sit and wait for them to come hot! I didn't love the music inside - seemed loud and there was also a tv going. I went to sit outside and there is also music PIPED OUTSIDE. I have one question: WHY?!!! When our sandwiches were ready, we went and sat in the car, windows rolled up to avoid the noise. We wanted them hot, or else we'd have driven a bit away to eat in peace. The grinders were hot, excellent bread, nice toppings. The meat was pretty stingy, imho. My Rueben had three thin slices of corned beef, a sprinkling of sauerkraut, a bit of melted swiss (yum), and plenty (thank you!) of thousand island dressing. I expected more meat and definitely more sauerkraut. The taste was delicious. I love that they come in a cardboard box - keeps the bread crispy and hot. If you must eat in your car, the box also unfolds into a sort of impromptu tray for your lap. We won't be returning to this location, because of what you actually get on your grinders, and the noise in the dining room and outside. Mancino's pizza in Portage is a great place to stop if you're craving pizza. My girlfriend and I grabbed the 8" pizza and split it for $8. The sauce was delicious and crust was perfect. We waited approximately 20 minutes which isn't bad considering we came around the lunch rush. Overall this place is a great place to eat, and at a good price. Called in an order. Came in 30 minutes as that's what they said... and am on minute 25 of waiting her. I just want watched them put my grinder in the oven, 50 minutes after ordering it on the phone. Ordered what used to be our favorite sandwich--the triple decker but as you can see from the picture, the roast beef looks like it's ground, and there's barely any meat on it. Although stop by joint near Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI, I got word from a realible source that the quality of my pizza grinder, which is superb, would have the same quality ingredients and prep in Portage, MI close to my home. I had high hopes for this place but my pizza was overcooked that there was no cheese, I ordered the meat lovers and the "meat" was unrecognizable except for 1 pepperoni. It was so dried that you could lift the toppings in one crusty piece and the dough was left empty. It almost burnt (see pictures) the cheesy breadsticks were okay, very cheesy but they put paper in between them that cause the cheese to get stuck to it. The marinara sauce was so dried you couldn't pick it up with the breadsticks, it had the consistency of jam. I will not be returning. For the price I've had better pizza at little Caesar's. The dog liked it but she would eat crap. Very disappointed. read more

I have been coming here since I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL . This place hasn't changed much and I love that about it! Consistency. They have been my go to place for a grinder for 20+ years and it won't change anytime soon. My absolute favorite grinder is the roast beef. There is something about a classic that is delicious! Roast beef with the perfect thickness, mozzarella cheese so meaty and gooey, perfectly sliced tomatoes, mayo (or in my case extra mayonnaise) and that ... is... it. Simple as that! I always think I can eat a whole grinder which is 16". I am always happily left with 1/2 of my grinder to eat later They have so many options, like I said, roast beef, the Italian, meatball is my son's favorite, my husband always gets the Mancino's club, my daughter loves the pizza grinder, they have a great choice! They just recently started having fries! Which makes my heart happy!!! And they have a Coca-Cola freestyle machine, who doesn't love 100 choices of drinks? Mancino's has a great lunch deal too! Your choice of salad or 1/2 grinder, side of fries, or chips, chili or soup and a drink for $7.50! My hubby and I just love the lunch deal! Mancino's in portage has always been a favorite. I have enjoyed their food since I was quite young. Their grinders are the best sandwiches around. Their menu has many options besides the grinders, many of which I have had and enjoy very much. Their service is always top notch and although I get takeout more than anything the food is even better eating in their dining area, which includes a coke machine with a large choice of flavors. read more

But we had ordered a 4 topping pizza (and charged accordingly) and one of the topping was completely omitted. The other toppings were also somewhat scant. We don't eat subs and grinders very often anymore, unlike our years spent in college where it seemed we lived at (the long past) Sunshine Sub on Westnedge. But, when we do get this food group, we tend to head to this location and we tend to go for take out. This location has a Reuben knockoff that is very satisfying, and I like their Meatball grinder. My girl enjoys grinders with turkey (as the dominant protein), sometimes with ham, sometimes without. Usually we come about every 2 weeks for pizza night at our house, every time I call to place an order, I have to say, do not burn it. This is the 3rd time we have ordered and they have had to remake it being it's burnt and then when I got home, it was half raw...I can order from anywhere else and it's not burnt, so then when I told them it was burnt the manager, I am assuming he is, said that it was not burnt and that's the way our pizzas are and had a huge attitude. Check your temps or something because the one on Gull rd and Mattawan do not come out like that. I have to say, we will not return to this one. read more

It took them 25 minutes to make and bring me a pizza, completely different than what i ordered. when I brought this up to the owner, he acted as though i was inconveniencing him. he was snide and rude, as well as reluctant to refund me when i didn't have time for him to make my order again. Once a week, for the past two years, I have ordered a small Pride pizza from Mancino's. A small size is the right size for my family. This week I ordered my usual and was told I couldn't order a small, I had to move up to a medium. I did not WANT a medium. I was told the owners made that decision. This is my favourite place to get grinders, hands down. They have so many choices and I have yet to be disappointed. I have not yet tried their pizza, but it's also a big seller from what I see from other customers. This restaurant can be a little chilly, but the employees' kindness should help warm your spirits. I do caution that it is a popular place, especially for Sunday lunch, so it can get a little crowded. Mancino's has gone so far down hill in recent years, I used to be a proud customer & loved the workers & food before. I have visited 3 times in the last couple of months and ALL 3 times my food was incorrectly made. Last night I came in to Mancino's and when I got home realized all 4 things I had ordered were incorrect I called back to speak with someone about it and was rudely hung up on 4 times. Finally was able to speak to a young lady who said "sorry were closed" it was 8:15 on a Sunday & I know they happen to close at 8:30. She refused to remake my food that was wasted because we wouldn't eat that. I came back the following day called ahead of time to make sure my order was correct & the young man who took my order failed to listen to any of my specifications and everything was wrong again. Not to mention he gave me rancid very old ranch that was so curdled the smell was of vinegar. He then used the phone to take an order wearing only 1 glove on 1 hand then went back and handled food using the same dirty glove that was holding the phone & not wearing a glove on the other hand while holding my sub meat etc. how dare you disrespect your paying customers like that, unsanitary conditions especially during this covid pandemic. I am so displeased with this company & the fact that children are running the store. It is utter chaos & the owner/ manager needs to take a hard look at this place before it goes down. This place is the last place I will ever go again. It's mind blowing how leaders of this company have no knowledge or simply just don't care about customer service or food safety standards.
