So I actually have never eaten here. BUT there is a line dance class that happens in the back of this restaurant on Tuesday nights that I love. The restaurant is playing music for it's patrons though. I see people in there eating and enjoying themselves. Sometimes they observe us dancing. I spoke to one of the waiters and he told me that they've been there for 3 years. I've lived in the area since 2012 and have never noticed this place. I do however want to try their food one day. It looks yummy based on what I've seen. I.lovw Haitian food

What can I say ....we were told when we walked in the wait would be 1.5 hours for food. We almost left but decided to give them a chance anyway. We ordered appetizers which we were told would not take that long. After 2 hours and 10 minutes we got one of our appetizers and it was then when they told us they did not have anymore rice. Our next appetizer came at 2 hours and 35 minutes. There were 3 tables who got up and left way before us and we still tried to stick it out. It's not the waitresses fault but they disappear. It took about 35 minutes for us to get our drinks and water. The shrimp dish was good just like the pork dish but it was mainly pieces of fat on the pork and very small pieces. I am sorry I've been to other Haitian restaurants and never have had to wait this long for my food. Wish them the best.

Food was good, but costly. There's a vegetable rice that is really good. We came for lunch and ordered turkey in sauce and oxtails in sauce with water and our total price was $48.78. They automatically add 18% gratuity (we were a party of 2). The gentleman (owner/manager?) we first encountered was friendly, sat us immediately & took our order. From the time we ordered to the time we left it was over an hour. We were the only ones in the restaurant. No one checked on us after we received our food, not even to refill our water. At one point I needed napkins and I went to the front to see if I could get some from the bar area and the young lady that was at the front was standing there on her phone. I love supporting local restaurants but I can't imagine how the service would be with a busy crowd and automatic tip where there was no service provided is cause for concern.

Where do I begin?? I have to disagree with everyone when it comes to a few of the reviews. What people don't understand is for a business to succeed--a lot comes into play. The price is NOT TOO HIGH. As a person who frequents --high end restaurants. I prefer to spend my $$$ where the food is delicious, yummy, and properly cleaned. When I dine out at similar restaurants (price range) that's not Haitian. I do not complain about the portions or price because (Steak 954) will provide me the same portion for about the same price for the meal. I cook so I can understand how to plate & price a food. If not, this place will be closed in a few months! Now to the FOOD!! It's exceptionally delicious. It's consistent & worth it! Service wise--yes the Waitress can use more training, but that's something they can work on! The place is clean and it smells good. I will continue to support this place because I want CARIBBEAN restaurants to also be able to compete with other restaurants and SUCCEED! They can't charge you $7 for a plate and pay their rent, & employees. So support each other as we support white owned businesses!

I will strongly say, this restaurant is immaculate but they are still new and on the rise. They only have 4 servers on rotation, a few chefs and no bartender, meaning the servers are also the bartenders. The wait times are ridiculous when the restaurant is packed as the staff becomes over-stretched to accommodate more parties. Coming around opening times or midday before the 5pm rush are truly the best in being able to experience all the food. Came back to try some different dishes like the Creole Chicken with Black Rice and the Fried Tassot which were exquisite! Keep in mind, the Tassot is not fried hard, but still very flavorful!

HONEST REVIEW! This place sucks! I waited an hour and 45 mins for my food to be cold! Then when I got the food it was mid! Nothing to be excited about! The servers don't have any product knowledge, I asked a few questions about the menu and they had no clue. I strongly suggest if you are wanting to eat here make sure you come full because by the time you get your food you'll be hungry! This place should've waited to open because right now they suck! Only thing that's good is the damn drinks and the bathroom is nice #suckless

The location is not in the best neighborhood, and by looks of their front door (iron bars), it very well might be an unsafe area. The restaurant inside is clean, I'll give them that. Tables and floors were well kept and wiped down after guests left. There were a couple ladies behind the counter who were friendly and gave us some time to review the menu. Jason and I both ordered the same thing, goat curry (curry goat) with rice and peas and it came side a small side of steamed cabbage and a few sweet plantains as well. We took our food to go and all the way home it smelled go good! Immediately when I opened the container I knew right away, it was going to be a hit or miss (for me). The color or the goat was very yellow, which means, this curry was more turmeric than actual curry power. Being from the Caribbean, you know the difference between the 2 things.... Nevertheless, we ate, and we both liked the food, it was not something that I felt like I could not stop eating, nor thought 'wow I can't wait to go back'. The meat of the goat was tender for sure. The flavors that I'm familiar with, were not there. And I understand that this might be the restaurant's way of cooking, and their style, and that's totally ok, it's just for me this was not one of my favorite Jamaican spots.

Everything tasted great. The chicken was crispy, the rice and peas were well seasoned, and the oxtail gravy brought everything together perfectly. The plantains were a standout, sweet like candy and cooked just right. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. However, the ambiance felt more like a hole in the wall spot rather than a polished dining environment. That being said, the quality and flavor of the food definitely make up for it. Overall, it's a great place to grab authentic, delicious Jamaican food, and I'd definitely come back again.

At the time, I was…read moreeager to try the local restaurants and find a spot that could be one of my "regular" places. The first few times I visited Chelly's there was always a pretty decent sized line (a mark of a good restaurant usually). I'm no stranger to island food, but I also don't know many of the dishes all too well so I always have questions. The first few times I came I met Chelly, the owner of the establishment. She was warm and welcoming and took time to explain what everything was even knowing that there was a line to get her delicious food. I ordered the chicken curry as my first choice with rice and peas, cabbage, and a Jamaican beef patty. The food was OUTSTANDING! Flavorful, fresh, full of character and the portions are BIG so it's a great value. They had earned my business from day one and since then I had been coming back on and off when I was craving Jamaican food. Fast forward to today, I'm still a loyal customer and I want to say...this is the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant I have ever been to. Sam usually takes care of me and always greets me when I come in, she's personable, and loved getting to know the clientele to the point where she remembers conversations you shared and will ask you "hey how's _____ going?" I really love the welcoming atmosphere. The thing is, it's not just her.....her husband Matthew, is the same way! He's super nice, super welcoming, takes the time to explain the food, gives samples, even sometimes hooks me up with a little extra on the house. It doesn't stop there though....Viannie is also just as nice, friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. The whole establishment is bursting with personality and friendly attitudes. THIS is something I highly value and has seemingly become lost in this post-pandemic world. Not at Chelly's, they take pride in not only serving up delicious food full of flavor and soul, but also serving it up with a smile and attitude that warrants becoming a regular. If you haven't dined here, or aren't sure about dining here....drop what you're doing and give this place a try. Also worth mentioning, their lunch special deal for 6.99 is a TREMENDOUS value given the size of the portions and the freshness of the food. Small businesses such as Chelly's need your support. We are living in a capitalist world and big name businesses are running small businesses out. Don't let that happen, support your local establishments and family owned businesses. Chelly's has earned my business for life and they should earn yours too.

We arrived around 11 PM on a Friday and the place had great energy. It was lively without feeling overwhelming, and a few tables looked like they were celebrating special occasions, which added to the vibe. The music was excellent and honestly brought back a bit of that nostalgic, high school party feel in the best way. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were definitely strong and well made. The service stood out just as much as the atmosphere. The owner was incredibly pleasant and attentive, checking in with us several times to make sure we were taken care of. You could tell she genuinely cared about the guests. I also learned the owners are Trini and Guyanese, which I loved because it added a nice personal touch to the experience. As a first time visitor, I really appreciated that she thanked us for coming when we left. It made the experience feel welcoming and personal. I'll definitely be back to try the food. As a vegetarian, I'm hoping to make a special request since there aren't many Chinese vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm confident they'll accommodate it. We left after 1 AM and people were still coming in, so it's clearly a popular late night spot. Great location right off University with plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient.
