It's not easy to find a kitchen open that late, so we were thrilled to discover that Kalalou was still serving when we got out of a concert two weeks ago. We were able to sit down for a full meal at 1am. I ordered the tapas dish, which was surprisingly filling. My niece had the legume, and my sister and daughter enjoyed their big platter of fried plantains, Accra, and meat. We ate, we danced, and had a great time. My only critique is that my drink although pretty tasted like more juice than a tequila cocktail, but overall the experience was fun. Me and my stepmom went to get dinner and I ordered the oxtail with the black mushroom rice and it came with plantains and a salad. The one thing I look for in black rice is that the rice is not grainy and it's just not super black. Once I received the meal, the rice was grainy, the kitchen either use the liquid form of the mushroom or a cube because it certainly was not authentic black mushroom rice, and it was just hard. The oxtail was not falling off the bone and I was given a lot of fatty pieces. I was not happy with the food at all and this is not giving good Haitian food. If you are going to create a restaurant that is authentication food then it should be serving that. And the salad was pitiful. It was iceberg lettuce with a piece of tomato on it. The sauce of the oxtail was nice as I was able to dip my plantains in there. The plantains were nice and crisp with a good amount of salt on there. The acts was nice as an appetizer, but a little too soft I needed to be fried just a little bit more The service was good and our server was very attentive to us. So I actually have never eaten here. BUT there is a line dance class that happens in the back of this restaurant on Tuesday nights that I love. The restaurant is playing music for it's patrons though. I see people in there eating and enjoying themselves. Sometimes they observe us dancing. I picked the fried chicken special with rice/beans, plantains, pikliz, and a side salad. The chicken itself was very tender but crispy and had a flavorful tang to it. The rice was extremely fulfilling but lacked seasoning, as well as the plantains. It was a hefty portion for $10 and left me full for the whole day. What can I say ....we were told when we walked in the wait would be 1.5 hours for food. We almost left but decided to give them a chance anyway. We ordered appetizers which we were told would not take that long. After 2 hours and 10 minutes we got one of our appetizers and it was then when they told us they did not have anymore rice. Our next appetizer came at 2 hours and 35 minutes. There were 3 tables who got up and left way before us and we still tried to stick it out. It's not the waitresses fault but they disappear. It took about 35 minutes for us to get our drinks and water. The shrimp dish was good just like the pork dish but it was mainly pieces of fat on the pork and very small pieces. First time here. We were greeted immediately as we walked in which was nice. The waiter came with a smile and attended to us very quickly. The drinks were really good had the passion fruit and the lemonade drink was refreshing. The food came out hot and tasty. Food was good, but costly. There's a vegetable rice that is really good. We came for lunch and ordered turkey in sauce and oxtails in sauce with water and our total price was $48.78. They automatically add 18% gratuity (we were a party of 2). The gentleman (owner/manager?) we first encountered was friendly, sat us immediately & took our order. From the time we ordered to the time we left it was over an hour. We were the only ones in the restaurant. No one checked on us after we received our food, not even to refill our water. At one point I needed napkins and I went to the front to see if I could get some from the bar area and the young lady that was at the front was standing there on her phone. If not, this place will be closed in a few months! Now to the FOOD!! It's exceptionally delicious. It's consistent & worth it! I will strongly say, this restaurant is immaculate but they are still new and on the rise. They only have 4 servers on rotation, a few chefs and no bartender, meaning the servers are also the bartenders. The wait times are ridiculous when the restaurant is packed as the staff becomes over-stretched to accommodate more parties. Coming around opening times or midday before the 5pm rush are truly the best in being able to experience all the food. Came back to try some different dishes like the Creole Chicken with Black Rice and the Fried Tassot which were exquisite! Baroli has been opened for a year in Tamarac, Fl and growing up in a Haitian household in Fort Lauderdale, I've had my share of food! The food was so delicious and the presentation was wonderful! The restaurant is very large and very beautiful inside. It would be a prime location for a private event! The best part of our dining experience was our server Abby'! She was so sweet and patient. Have great recommendations and her honest opinion about meals according to her preference. I knew the food was good when my mom who is not impressed with ANYTHING was grabbing our leftover food and putting it in a to go box! That is a BIG compliment from an older Haitian woman who only prefers her own cooking and feels that restaurant food is not that great. Keep up the great food and service. I commend Baroli's owners for their efforts, place look nice with a full bar and the food is delicious. The price is definitely too pricey for the portion which are ridiculously small. I don't mind paying for good food but for a Haitian restaurant, this is unacceptable. While in both occasion the waitresses were courteous, the place was understaffed and I dont think that they have had adequate training in that area. They serve it with fried plantains but the plantains are cut long rather than short. Makes for a nice presentation. The Baroli Spicy Bites were very spicy but flavorful so it wasn't bad. I also tried the Tassot Turkey which is my usual go to for Haitian Cuisine. It did not disappoint when it comes to the presentation but I did wish it had more flavor. It was lacking epiz if you ask me. The typical Haitian meal normally has so much seasoning that the eyes start to water but that wasn't the case. The diri Jon Jon made up for that as it was very tasteful. As far as beverages I got the passion fruit juice. It was very sweet which is pretty normal. They are pretty new and did not have everything they was in their menu so maybe the restaurant will get better with time. Y'all should try it if you never had Haitian good. Heard about this restaurant from Tik Tok. Upon entering, was immediately greeted & sat down. It wasn't busy, only 2 other couples in the restaurant. Waitress came over with water & proceeded to take our order, but first had to mention what they didn't have; which was almost everything. She said people have been ordering food all day, and they sold out of a lot. They only had white rice, ordered that with fried fish. Hubby ordered fried goat.
