Not on fire. I love kalbi, but this was too sweet, rice was overcooked and the entire thing could use a serious cleaning.

Was staying at turtle bay and was hungry for something not too expansive but yummy and the hubby was craving meat so found this lovely place that was about an 8 minute drive. There was no line which made it quick to get our meal and the customer service was nice as I was deciding between the ribeye or galbi. Plenty of seating outside to sit with roosters walking around. Food came out hot and yummy. It was a little salty but was good if you ate it was the rice and japchae. Wish there was a salad or something but delicious and would come back to try more dishes

    - cash only - a lot of meat - meat was pretty juicy and fatty - good amount of rice - couldn't finish a plate myself, would've preferred to share - has seating - open parking

The food was SO GOOD. And the amount of food for the price was great. We devoured our plates and left extremely happy and full. Pretty quick service too! (They even threw in a free soda because they were getting ready to close - we were super glad we caught them!) I had the chicken and my husband had the kalbi, and both were amazing! We went kind of late so didn't have any troubles parking (the parking area there is pretty large so probably wouldn't be an issue during a busier time either). And there was also plenty of seating, both covered and uncovered options. Perfect ambiance for a low-key, relaxed evening meal.

Wow!! Massive portions! Well worth the price! Came to this food truck in a center with a lot of food trucks, stands, shoppings spots etc. make sure to come and eat with a friend here because the portions are gigantic. The meat is tender and cooked perfectly, comes with noodles and rice. I recommend bringing cash. They have a spot across the street with a bar and drinks, smoothies, açaí bowls, Thai food etc it's all near by. Great spot to come with families, groups, friends, on a date etc. nice covered area to sit outside!

The mandoo is amazing. The service was great, very cheerful staff. The flavor was on point. Highly recommended!!

Best food truck in Kahuku for some delicious very flavorful Kalbi ribs & Ribeye! If you're craving meat, this is the best place to come! This place is so underrated compared to other food trucks. They need to also be featured on television or something!! Their name is just right. They live up to their name very well.

The best Korean bbq short ribs ever! This is my fav food truck! I will always drive up to North Shore just to get a plate of this wonderful food.

I'm gonna go ahead and make the statement that this is my all time favorite kalbi on the island. Today I ordered the kalbi plate with rice and japchae and the bbq pork plate with rice and japchae and both were excellent. The only reason I took off one star is because I wish the kalbi ribs weren't so fatty. The flavor is so good but just a bit too much fat. They use a similar marinade on the pork chop and we devoured both. This is the first time we stopped by here without getting the Giovanni's garlic shrimp plate which is another favorite of mine but I was feeling like some good bbq protein today. Check them out as another option when you can and thank me later.

Move over all your four choicee Korean joints. Step off pretenders claiming you have the best kalbi on the island just because you have "kalbi" in your name. This is the new "best". Thin sliced, bone in, deeply marinated the Korean way (you can taste the Asian pear) before flame grilling to a perfect medium. The smell is hedonistic. The flavor deep and comforting. Pulling the chewy sinew off the bone and savoring the fat all added bonuses. Other offerings include marinated chicken and ribeye. Neither sampled. When you've found perfection, why deviate? $20. Locals, tip and you'll probably get an extra fourth piece of kalbi or a free drink. Plenty of self service, covered seating. Look for the yellow school bus and the colorful sign with dominating Korean characters. Five visits. Consistently great. Unexpected find.

Best K-BBQ food truck! Been coming here for years and quality & taste hasn't changed. The ohana that runs this food truck is super sweet and we always stop by when on the NS.

Man don't pass on this! Definitely a must if you are in the North Shore area! The kalbi was soooooo good hands down! We got to the place right when it opened so we only waited 15 minutes! This is going to be a yearly visit for us now!

Come to the North Shore for Giovanni's, but stay for the Kalbi! Giovanni's is probably on every tourists list that comes to Oahu, especially when visiting the North Shore, however, besides the garlic shrimp that you can have, there is some seriously delicious eats besides that shrimp truck there - might I introduce you to Kalbi on Fire This small business is located next to Giovanni's on that same parking mall where you can find multiple other vendors. My husband had a hankering for some steak while we were in Hawaii, so while I was in line at Giovanni's he walked over to Kalbi on Fire. We ordered some steak and short ribs. WOW oh WOW! The meats were melt in your mouth good. Def check this place out if you're craving some hearty beef and rice.

Giovanni's is one of those places where memory does a remarkable amount of the seasoning. I've been…read moreeating here across decades. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

Sorry late post! This was about a month from posting this!…read moreMy family, bf, and I wanted to support food trucks today for our lunch, so we decided to head to the Kahuku Sugar Mill I wanted a garlic shrimp plate and this is usually my go-to spot. I love the garlic smears they leave on the rice and that it's almost like a paste (my preference lol). Though it is very oily/buttery (almost like a pool) where they have the shrimps- still really Ono! My dad wanted to try their squid and shrimp plate (garlic butter combo)- he said he enjoyed it! He requested no garlic on his rice. Overall, this has been my preferred garlic shrimp plate. I don't like the shrimp heads at the shells aren't too hard. There's some places and it's very crunchy. These ones aren't pretty soft so I don't have to worry about it hurting my lips when I suck the garlic off lol I do want to note that I had shrimp here once and it was a bit mushier than usual. This was a couple months ago, but all the other times, the shrimp has been a good texture

Not sure if this was an off day, or if I got a bad batch of shrimp (everything else wasn't good either) but it was horrible. We walked around the entire food truck area trying to decide what we wanted. We came to this area for Da Bald Guy but he was sold out so on to the next option. Shrimp on the island is my go to and so I decided to try Famous. Their pictures on the menu looked great so I ordered a plate to split with my husband of spicy and garlic shrimp with two scoops of rice. It was $20. I paid as my husband went over to Mikes Huli Huli Chicken to see about getting an appetizer. My food came out super fast. Like almost too fast... My husband asked why it was so quick. I think I found out. We sat at the brewery bar area and grabbed a beer and opened the to go box. It looked good. The spicy was clearly spicier than the garlic shrimp. I grabbed a garlic shrimp and started to peel it and was having a hard time. It was not letting go of the shrimp. That is usually a sign that it was thawed incorrectly or overcooked. My guess was these were shrimp that were cooked earlier and sat... overcooking. Once I finally got the skin off and ate one the shrimp was grainy and super rubbery. They were gross. Absolutely gross. I took a scoop of rice and it was mushy. Again seems like it sat for a long time and over cooked. It was a ball of mush. I couldn't get back two bites before we threw it away. There goes $20 and sadly my confidence that all shrimp trucks on the island are magical and taste great.

We drove up to get there just before noon on a Saturday. It was rainy, so the numbers were a bit light in the area, but there were still thirteen people in line when the truck opened for business. The owner was fun, friendly, and engaging the customers in conversations while prepping the food. There are times when I think some food truck owners take on the role of a short order cook and get annoyed that you don't understand "how" you're supposed to order; that was certainly NOT the case here. You just need to decide if you want a hot or regular sandwich and whether you want bleu cheese or special sauce. We got one hot and one regular, but the chicken is HUGE and two adults can easily share one sandwich. I'm torn, because while we would probably order just one sandwich next time, I also want to support the business and get two. The chicken was as good as everyone told us and had incredible crispy batter. The fries though...those were maybe the best I've ever had. I don't normally love the double cooked style fry, but could live off those and never get tired of them.
