Had heard about Eighty Chicken Sandwiches from a couple pre-trip searches and wanted to make it one of our must-go dining stops on this trip. We drove up to get there just before noon on a Saturday. It was rainy, so the numbers were a bit light in the area, but there were still thirteen people in line when the truck opened for business. The owner was fun, friendly, and engaging the customers in conversations while prepping the food. There are times when I think some food truck owners take on the role of a short order cook and get annoyed that you don't understand "how" you're supposed to order; that was certainly NOT the case here. You just need to decide if you want a hot or regular sandwich and whether you want bleu cheese or special sauce. We got one hot and one regular, but the chicken is HUGE and two adults can easily share one sandwich. I'm torn, because while we would probably order just one sandwich next time, I also want to support the business and get two. The chicken was as good as everyone told us and had incredible crispy batter. The fries though...those were maybe the best I've ever had. I don't normally love the double cooked style fry, but could live off those and never get tired of them. He gives excellent clear directions on how to order your sandwich. I love that the concept is simple. Order the number of sandwiches you need for your party. Do you want spicy or not? (Spicy is delicious and not too spicy at all.) Do you want blue cheese sauce or "dat sauce" which is like fry sauce? Highly recommended when you're in the area! We made the 1 hr drive to Kahuku and got there an hour early. Definitely worth the drive and wait. We got two half dipped, one regular, and one spicy. Chicken sandwich was moist and full of flavor. Fries were on point. We got both the homemade blue cheese and that sauce, that sauce was mayjah! Just a heads up, they take cash or Venmo. We brought our own drinks and seating, parked under a tree and ate there. It's a nice clean area, many other businesses in walking distance. So I've been hearing about this place for weeks from a coworker who couldn't shut up about it, so I had to check it out. It's a pretty decent drive from Waikiki, but totally worth it. There are several other food vendors around, but it's not hard to find this spot and the Chef lets you know this will be the best chicken sandwich you ever had. So you walk up and get asked how many sandwiches you would like. The sandwiches are made in batches so they are fresh, so if you miss the current batch you get asked to wait till the next round. Have to give respect where it's due. Adam preps his chicken throughout the week, selling 80 each on Saturday and Sunday. When you order here you get a sandwich and fries, no drinks no adjustments except spicy or regular. Straightforward. The chicken tastes perfect, delicious, crisp, well cooked. The spicy has a very saucy taste, will come back to try the regular. Came on a Saturday at 1 pm (an hour or so after opening) and he only had 9 left. On top of that, Adam is an awesome guy who cares about his business but also making sure people are more than just satisfied with his service. My dad had heard great things about this food truck, so we decided to give it a try. It's located all the way in Kahuku in a lot with a handful of other food trucks. The lot can get busy, but you can always find parking in the back area in an unmarked stall. Eighty chicken sandwiches is run by a stay at home dad who makes eighty chicken sandwiches on both Saturday and Sunday. You know when a food truck only makes one thing, they're going to do it well. We got to the lot around 11:20, and we were the first people around. We didn't actually get in line until 11:40, and only about three other parties were behind us at that time. By the time he opened up at noon, the line had at least 15-20 parties. It's hard to say what time to get there at, but the earlier the better. When he opened, he moved everyone into a shaded area and gave his whole run down of his truck and how the process was going to work. He asks the first groups of people in line how many sandwiches they're ordering and makes groups of ten sandwiches. Your options for sandwiches are regular/spicy/half and half and options for sauces on the side are blue cheese or house sauce. It comes with fries, and he really loaded up our fries. We got both a regular and half. The chicken piece was HUGE and was triple the size of the bread. The chicken is breaded to perfection. Fries had the perfect amount of salt, and I liked how it still had the skin on it. The spicy sandwich had more of a buffalo kick to it. Great food truck that this guy has! I love a place the specializes in one thing. No fuss no frills just good food. My husband and I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. It was not very spicy, just good flavor. I like the idea of a person figuring out exactly what they want to do and then having the chance to make their dream a reality. I love the fact that this food truck is open for under three hours every weekend and consistently delivers the results of one man's dream. I'd heard about this crazy food truck. That people line up an hour ahead of time to insure that they be one of the lucky eighty people who get to eat a chicken sandwich that day. That the weather does not matter, and that no one minds the lack of nearby tables. That the drive to the Kahuku Sugar Mill trucks is absolutely worthwhile just for this sandwich. With all of this in mind I picked a rainy Sunday during football season to make the forty minute drive, figuring it was my best chance. Sure enough, the line had already started to form when I arrived just before the window opened for the day. The line itself is neatly corralled in a space between Hilton's Art trailer and the also excellent Get'Cha Roll On gourmet eggroll stand. It is directly across the road from the truck, and creates a cheerful murmur of conversation among those waiting. My suggestion is to order a flavored lemonade from the Eggroll stand while you wait, as they sell out early as well. Your choices are minimal. You can have your sandwich mild, spicy, or half dipped in the spicy sauce. You can choose blue cheese or "Dat Sauce" to accompany your sandwich, and you can choose a bottle of water or a can of lilikoi drink. You can also order more than one sandwich, but he makes ten at a time, so he will call people forward in batches Your sandwich will arrive in a waxed cardboard box buried under a massive amount of delicious French fries and the sauce will be tucked in the corner along with a portion of ketchup. That's it. The sandwich is big, juicy, and truly worth the quest. I ate half of my fries on the way to my car and then sat and enjoyed the massive sandwich. I asked for it to be half dipped, and enjoyed both experiences, but will order it mild next time. The spicy sauce made the batter just a bit too wet and masked the excellent blend of spices used. Make sure you look for the line--the current batch will be in front of the window, then the later batches will be queued-for across the dirt road, on the other side. If the timing works out perfectly you'll wait maybe 20 minutes because he prepares a batch of dishes together, maybe 10 or so at a time. The chicken cutlets are huge and nicely fried. The fries are also very tasty. It's a little tough to eat because there's a massive chicken sammich under a giant pile of fries, so you have to eat through the fries to get to the sammich. It was definitely hard to make the trek here since they're located in Kahuku & only open on the weekends (which i work) I amazingly had a weekend off and decided to make the drive over to finally try! They open at 12pm but their line forms before that. He makes the sandwiches in batches, so its actually better if you go there prior to opening rather than opening time because you probably will end up waiting a lot longer than you need to. Just make sure that you bring an umbrella and something to drink because it was really hot! Even my dog was getting hot! but we made friends in line (probably cause my dog is so popular) LOL. When I got there this morning there was a small line before it opened so that is a good sign. First, I arrived 15-20 min before he opened and I was in the first batch of 10 sandwiches he made which made a huge difference because there's not really any shade to wait and it was really hot so definitely get there early. This place was highly recommended by friends of mine saying they never give any food 5 stars but this was definitely a five star meal. So clearly we had high hopes going into it. We got there at around 1:50 and were a little nervous that he would be sold out but there were 10 left. The owner was very nice. We both got the regular sandwich with "that sauce". The fries were so yummy and potentially some of our favorite fries ever. The sandwich was HUGE. Definitely come very hungry. It was amazing!
