This outdoor mall is awful. We parked in the parking structure, which smelled like rotten food and sewage, and there was even a metal clearance pole hanging down in the middle of the garage. Every escalator we came across was out of service. The entire place looks old, unkempt, abandoned, and haunted. We only came here to try a new restaurant and had absolutely no idea what we were in for.

Not sure who owns this place, but they do a terrible job. The escalators never work and all of the businesses seem to shut down after a year or so. The new Concrete Coffee has been 2 other coffee shops and sometimes vacant just over the past few years. The entire Union Market is pretty much dead. The Kaleidoscope just has such a weird overall vibe. They really need to figure out what they are going for because whatever they are going for now...ain't working!

I feel like the management company has kind of given up with the Kaleidoscope center. On my last visit, two or three escalators were out of order and the one elevator I saw was also non-functioning. I guess it's a requirement to be mobile in order to visit this center? There wasn't anyone I could ask to see if there was another working lift... (note: I currently have a stress fracture, so didn't really love walking up and down escalators.) That aside: there really isn't a draw to bring someone here. I did have a Burke Williams membership for a while. That got me here... but I'd never walk around the center afterwards. I did come to the cinema this past week -- for the first time in probably a decade. At least parking was decent. I never see anyone in the gym when I drive by anymore. So... what would bring someone here? Oh, I did pick up an overpriced pizza from Sal's twice... but really: this center needs something. There is no hook. It could be really cool if someone could figure out what to do with it... 2024: 12/100

Elevators suck, escalators busted, honestly businesses here should sue the management, it's a complete hunk of junk

All Escalators don't work, dirty. Property management Tenet blows. Avoid at all costs, horrible location, too.

To me, it looks like the food court and restaurants are what attract the most people. Paradise Bakery & Cafe consistently has the longest line at the food court. I am not surprised because there is something special about it. I love their mini cinnamon roll and my husband is a fan of their peanut butter cookie. In terms of value, The Shops at Mission Viejo has stores at different price points. You can splash out at Nordstrom or economize at Uniqlo. A more accurate description would be "the-mall-that-accepts-anyone-as-a-tenant." I'm pretty sure the beauty supply store is a front for a money laundering operation (they are never, ever open), most of the other stores don't stay open until 8pm (and I'm not talking about just the watch/jewelry stores), and there are just a handful of random, funky places in here. All that aside - I don't really come here to "shop" - but it's a great place to mall walk. It's here that I learned mall walking was a real thing. Weekday mornings, you'll see a fair amount of retirees walking the mall, many before it opens. Not going to lie: my husband and I have turned into evening mall walkers. So, thanks, Mission Viejo for giving us a place to walk.. but not necessarily shop. I really think the leasing department needs to look at what would do well with the community, not just be desperate and sign anyone. Look at how other centers are thriving. 2026: 52/100

The selection of little shops, some were open and some were closed, are so cute. The shops that were open, looked inviting and friendly. The prices on items were somewhat reasonable. During the day, depending upon which day, this place can seem dead or bleak. I don't know how some businesses survive here. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. As much as I want to love the Kaleidoscope, I really liked Union Market, and I would return to this spot, just for the adorable small businesses located inside. The Kaleidoscope, itself, is really run down and disappointing. Please read my separate review on my opinion of Kaleidoscope. If you ever consider going here, most definitely head to Union Market. Enjoy!!!

This space is huge and really cool with a lot of artwork on the walls. There's great potential, but I think malls are a dying breed since covid. This spot has a couple really cool retail stores, including candle making and events with crafts. They also have a good sized bar, hangout areas, foosball, corn hole and more! They even have live music! It was just so sad to see how empty it was and how many businesses have shut down. I'm thinking this space is probably used more for private events.
