Service and food were great but the chef lacked showmanship.

We went here the other day for my daughter's birthday and was horribly dissatisfied with the food here. I ordered the Samurai which consisted of filet mignon and scallop habachi..sounds yummy right?? NOT. The filet mignon had a really funky smell and taste to it and the chef was completely boring. One of the main specialty of habachi is the show!..but there was no show ...he barely even talked ...actually I think the only thing he said to us was repeat our order before he started cooking. I normally don't review the places I don't like. Or review many places at all. I agree with the previous reviews, the food was okay in my opinion. Not the best fried rice I've had (can't speak for the sushi). What really brought this place down was the slow service. It's possible that the waitress was new, but she was a bit awkward and the overall service was slow. Requests were forgotten and the waitress didn't inspire much confidence in the food. THE worst experience I have had at a Hibachi place. I take my Mom and Dad who are international visitors (first time) to this country to share a memorable experience and it turned out to be one that I want to forget. It was not the over priced dish money I spent there but the time with my mom and dad that was spent that I can never get back. Here is what happened, the waitress gets our orders (I tell her how they are here to enjoy their first Hibachi experience and all that) and that was the last time I see her. Never came back for our refills. The Hibachi guy had a difficult attitude that he was not funny or did not even try to be entertaining. Quite the opposite of being entertaining, when I asked him for hot sauce he said that it was not his job but the waitresses's (who was never seen again). And it was just pretty much only us at that time in that restaurant, so she probably went shopping? The hibachi guy just made fried rice, no volcano or any tricks that makes this a fun experience which is what I wanted to experience with my family. I could have put up a much better show than him if I had his job, serious better showmanship would be out of me (hire me guys). It only gets worse as the time progresses, the hibachi guy asks me if I still wanted hot sauce and I say "it would be great". He replies with a nasty attitude, "Ask the server". Then, why even ask me? So, here I am already fuming but maintaining my calmness since I do not want this to turn even more uglier in front of my parents who are new to this country and I did not want them to form any opinion about USA. So politely I ask for the manager who turns out to be the waitress, surprise. I take her to the side, explain decently and politely how we were treated and asked her who the tip went to? (I am not paying a penny to that hibachi guy, shit I did not want to pay for any of the food either). She said that it goes to her because she worked harder than the hibachi guy. That THAT just blew me away. I told her that I did not see her after she took our orders when we we first sat and how she could have worked hard? She says back to me, "I don't know, I have done the best job I can". Really? Are you kidding me? Remember, she just served us the first glass of water and went shopping. We went to get our own boxes and packed our leftovers. Is this because we are a different race, certainly I have never encountered this anywhere else and I have lived in so many places across the country. So it has to be their foreign attitude because neither the manager/waitress or the hibachi guy could speak proper English. These are the kind of businesses and people who really fuck up what this country stands for. It is that thing that pisses me off. Next time, I am taking my parents to a real American restaurant where people really from South do the business and have them enjoy and embrace the Southern hospitality which is what I wanted them to experience by going to this shitty place. I guess, people who are still reading this could understand my frustration. Left starving.... I waited 45 min for my Togo order which I payed with cash and a 5 dollar tip mind you.I ordered 2 hibachi chicken only to be informed they gave my food to the wrong customer I was told to wait there until they could get in touch with the customer who took my order and return my food which left the restaurant I then ask the Manager so she says "Jessica" if they could just redo my order she says I can wait there and get the order they wrongfully gave away I then asked for my money back and informed her it's against health regulations to re-serve food that has already been served she did not care about the regulations and tried to pretend she did not charge me. That's when I about lost it I told her I want my money back or I'm calling the police she gave me my money but refused to give me any Corp or owners contact info hopefully he or she will read this post and contact me I also called the Kampai in the other 2 locations they claim to have no affiliation with the Snellville location worst service ever!!!!! read more

I am an African-american male who has been a customer since the first day they opened in Lawerenceville. I always received great customer service up until today. I order consistently meals for my wife and I it normally costs about $112 before the tip. I order the grilled shrimp gyoza, golden roll, ribeye steak mixed with chicken, shrimp fried rice x 2 to cover both my wife and I we get the same dishes. I order carry out due to Cover 19. On today the normal nice lady was not there today, the lady was very rude, I called ahead of time and told her I would be picking up my food later than expected she said ok. I got there 3 minutes after the lunch shift closed. literally 3 minutes and I called and told her ahead of time. She blamed me like I was a little child and said "You better not do it again!" I was like whoooo. I did not say anything at that point because I was trying to collect myself before I responded outrageously...what bothered me is 1. I am a 53 year old grown man, I am never rude, I am a regular customer, I pay over $100 each time, I even invite friends to come with me at times, for this woman to have the audacity to talk to me like I am a child and additionally have the audacity to think I am coming back for a next time was arrogant disrespectful ignorance....I will never go back! I will always discourage people not to go because that treatment was so bad that I cannot reconcile in my head why anyone should go period. I called the restaurant, left a message about my dissatisfaction, I told them on the voice message that I will be bringing the food back, instead I trashed it in the garbage can down the road, yes I trashed over $100 worth of food.. that is how bad the disrespect was so you can put it in perspective..I do not recommend this place for anyone....my recommendation is: Never Go! read more

Well... We love hibachi. Moved to this area in June. We tried it and we weren't thrilled. Portions seemed on the smaller side and the meats where over cooked. While the vegetables were on the raw side. Service was hard when they spoke very little English. Fast forward almost a year later we gave it another try. Portions got even smaller, food was soooo salty and covered in sauces. My shrimp wasn't fully cooked and my salmon hand roll came out covered in yum yum and Hot sauce. What?..... never thought I'd be giving them lessons on how to properly make a salmon hand roll or how to not kill the food in salt and sauces. So disappointed!!! We waisted $120 of hard earned money on food we didn't enjoy. The chef was also flustered as half of our tables food wasn't on his cart.... I could go on and on BUT you get the point. Totally disappointed! I've been coming to Kampai for years and really thought they had the best sushi and hibachi in town. Well every since COVID they have done a complete 360. The quality of the food is blew standards especially for the prices. I tried to still support them when they were only able to do take out and charge an additional 18% gratuity but I will not continue to do so. One whey are they still charging that for carry out now that the restaurant is opened?? I refuse to sit inside because I still do not feel comfortable in the most of a pandemic. But for the ost several months I kept giving them chances and still the quality of food get worse and worse. Sushi with gravy would be dry with barely any sauce or the totally opposite it would be soggy (French roll)...not for almost $20...unacceptable. This use to be my all time favorite. One time we got hibachi and they gave my husband not even a handful of veggies. When we brought it to their attention they said they were running low...well why would you still sell it to us and at FULL price. Another time and the last, I ordered the super volcano, hardly any crab meat or sauce on top, barely any rice wrapped on some of the seaweed. I'm really bummed because I enjoyed them for years including the delightful manager. But I cannot continue to lay those type of pieces for mall food court quality food. Horrible!! We have been going here every week for the last two to three years. The last three of four visits have been just horrible. I thought the first time was an isolated incident but it wasn't. The first incident the waitress too over 10 minutes to take our drink order because she was dealing with a customer on the phone that they had lost her reservations. She had the nerve to actually come to our table and talk about the customer. Our food was good so no love lost. However, the last two visits the food was horrible and the food is no longer consistent. This visit the rice was gummy and so my husband sent it back. The cook refused to remake the order and asked how come this table was the only one complaining about the rice. The audacity of them. Heck, it was only four other people in the whole restaurant. My family and I won't be going back. We left without eating and we are now trying another restaurant Saké gurà and they are packed for a Thursday night. I wonder why!! read more

I have eaten here many times. Though the food is not bad, I can definitely say I have had WAY better hibachi. I can say that they are SCAM artists. Where any other hibachi restaurants only charge a tip on parties 6 or more (I have called around and verified) this place charges a 10% tip on any check $40 or more!!!!!. That means any party of two definitely gets this charge!!!! What crap! They have no signs up stating this, their website does not say this and even if you call in an order they don't tell you! The only reason I saw it was because the bill seemed off. When I looked at every item there was a 10% tip for a take out order! It was not something they have always had. This is a new, sneaky charge thwy started to add recently. Like I said I have been a few times. I encourage people to go to a different place like Kobe House or Kani House or any other hibachi that is not going to try to sneak more money out of you. Not bad but not good. We had a party of 8 for hibachi, we called ahead and didn't wait. The waitress was a little scatter-brained but got our orders right and was pretty attentive. Hibachi was where things were disappointing. They didn't have hibachi noodles that my kids love at other hibachi restaurants. The prices were a little high as well. The soup was extremely watered down but the salad was good. The shrimp apps were small compared to other places. I've never seen so many sauces and seasonings put on the rice, veggies and meat. So much pepper was on the veggies we couldn't really eat them. There was next to no "crowd evolvement" with us and the chef. One piece of chix was thrown but no sake was squirted. My kids were extremely disappointed. We also had a birthday in our group. A scoop of ice cream was brought to the table with a candle and we were left to our own vices to sing. My son got The Fuji Mountain roll here and the shrimp tempura inside made it taste plastic. The other sushi was fine but this horrible plastic smell permeated the entire roll. We are home now and my son is sick. We told the waiter at the restaurant but he said it 'looked' normal. I've been here a few times already and always love the food and atmosphere. My daughter and I came for lunch today and Jessica was our server. Both my daughter and I loved her! There was a small issue with my daughters food and she immediately fixed it and felt so bad, that I kept reassuring her everything was ok and things happen. Most servers when they see a three year old tend to ignore them, but Jessica kept interacting with my daughter it was sweet! Not what I expected. When we went, only three tables were occupied and we had six people in our party. It took them 15 minutes to arrrange two tables to accommodate us. Our waitress could not answer questions about the menu without going in the back. We had one person is our party without utensils when our food was brought and it took a while for the waitress to bring them. I came here with my friends for a birth day party of 8. We did not sit on the hibachi table since the majority of us are chefs and rather have sushi than overrated hibachi cuisine in general, I will emphasize on three major factors that led me to give 5 star here. First, service was prompt. Our server had good knowledge of the menu and was able to explain each questions we had about the menu. Food came out pretty quick and our drinks were refilled before it reached half way empty. Secondly, taste and presentation of the dish were on point. Our sashimi came on top of the shredded radish and side of kale which gives pleasant look of the dish, and fish were definitely fresher than most of the places around the area (I did notice that they use bluefin tuna instead of yellowfin, If you are a tuna lover... YES bluefin taste 100x better). Last point that I would like to make is how they have greeted us when we walked in, they made our birthday party felt as we were the VIPS of the night and hey, I can't complain. Overall, everything went the way that we had in mind and food was good. I may well comeback and maybe will try the hibachi and update my review, however I definitely do recommend you to try the sushi side. read more

Horrible experience at Hibachi table On Saturday my husband and sister ordered filet and two other members of our party ordered sirloin. Chef unbelievably combined filet mignon and sirloin steaks and served. Also vegetables served well before meats were finished. Enjoyed the food, but the service was a bit off. Had a fish taco appetizer, and the filet minion entree. Both were good. My wife had the scallops, lobster and shrimp. The scallops and shrimp were very good, but the lobster was over cooked. The salad was iceberg lettuce with dressing! As mentioned the service wasn't very good. He didnt really service us food, he just placed the food to our sides and not in front of us. Decided to stay local and try Kampai on our date night. My husband and I were seated and sat at the table (not Hibachi side) for over 10 minutes without anyone asking if we wanted a drink, while two tables were seated and served drinks beside us. Later we ordered our meals with appetizer. I ordered a hibachi meal. My main entree arrived COLD and before my soup and salad. I sent it back, received my soup and salad, then received back my REHEATED meal (the rice was not served in the same style as my original meal) My scallops were tough and overcooked, sent it back.
