I've been going to Kampai sushi on oracle since I was about 18 years old, i'm now 23 and I can still say that this is by far one of my favorite places to eat in Tucson. I recommend this place to everyone because it truly is delicious food and i've never had a meal I wasn't satisfied with. The miso soup is always on point and is the best i've ever had, i've got all my friends hooked on it!! The staff and service is always great and I can't stress enough, if you haven't eaten here yet do yourself a favor, pick up the phone and give them a call! still doing takeout. you might never guess it, but... Excellent Korean food- two staples: jjajangmyeon and jjambbong- freshly prepared, hot, delicious. the piping hot noodles and savory jjajang sauce were excellent, and the fresh seafood was plentiful in the spicy jjambbong soup. We recently moved back to the East coast, but Kampai Sushi (we didn't try the Japanese food) was by far the best example of these Korean national dishes in Tucson compared to the established Korean restaurants. Honestly, it was the best we've had in the US. It wasn't busy that day (lunchtime on a Saturday). That the food was so fresh and so good, really came as a major surprise. Unfortunately, Kampai no longer serves traditional Korean dishes like Kimchi Chigae or Bi Bim Bap. Although most of the staff (and presumably the owners) are of Korean descent, they've decided to serve mostly Japanese fare, with poor results. The sushi and rolls smell and taste fishy, the avocado slices on our meals had black spots, and the miso soup and edamame were fair to middling. I wish they'd return to their Korean roots, because their attempt at Japanese food isn't working. read more

Kampai Sushi is the best sushi I have ever had! I've lived in Miami and I currently live in the Bay Area and no other restaurant I have ever eaten at compares to Kampai. The sashimi is wonderfully fresh and the maki are inventive and delicious! You also can't beat the bento boxes for a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Everything on the menu is delightful, but Kampai really excels at the spicy rolls. They offer spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, spicy crab and spicy scallop rolls. Had the chicken teriyaki and shumai. The shumai was overly steamed and very fishy tasting. The chicken teriyaki was supposedly grilled but tasted fried and the sauce was supper sweet, the whole plate was submerged in way too much sauce I drained a cup out before I added my rice to the bowl. On the positive side the portion was a generous portion. I found the service somber. read more

This is a great place for sushi! They don't have all you can eat, but the portions are generous and we've always been happy with the flavors and quality of the fish. We had some great crab puffs today and the philly roll and spicy tuna were super delicious. Also I like how my spicy tuna comes with the pieces laid flat with a pile of more tuna on top. Their Korean menu is actually pretty good than what we expected, especially the Bi Bim Bap and the Korean fried rice. The Sashimi is fresh and cut. The sushi rolls are just about the right size. The only thing that's a little weird is their "1 piece" sushi. I ordered a spicy scallop and the price is $2.14 for just 1 piece. Now, that's a little expensive, although they try to make it a tiny bit bigger than other restaurants do. But still, $2.14 for just 1 piece, that's expensive. So, either order the whole roll or don't at all! I'm still giving it a 5-star, coz the food was actually good and we had a good experience! read more

We have been here twice and both times the sushi is excellent! We also ordered the spicy pork and the tonkatsu dinner plate which was very delicious and they serve huge portions of it. They give you free miso soup while waiting for the food to arrive which is great. read more

Ordered hot green tea and coke. The tea tasted funny, but I thought I had to train my taste buds to finally taste what it's supposed to taste like. After half a cup, the tea shouldn't have still tasted bad. So I taste my lady friends coke and it tasted like sour water as well. Since the water tasted funny, we had decided to leave. Just OK. My wife, daughter and I went here at 5 pm hoping for happy hour prices and good sushi. The yelp reviews are pretty good so wet thought we'd try it. They do give miso soup before the sushi, but there is no happy hour or deal for eating early like there is at most Tucson sushi bars. The food was just ok, but at the higher price I feel like we could have gone to a higher quality place. The portions were decent, however the service was slow and they had televisions running an LPGA golf event. My wife and I have been living in Tucson, AZ for the last several years. Moving from San Diego we were in an urgent status to find a Sushi spot that was comparable to what we had grown accustomed to in SD. I've been to several other spots in the Tucson / Oro Valley area and Kampai is unmatched in the freshness of their fish as well as the great customer service they provide. We have tried many sushi restaurants all throughout town and Kampai is by far our favorite. It is consistently fresh and always delicious. The owner is very nice and the service is prompt. Prices are competitive for sushi. We often carry out now because we have 2 young children, and the food always carries out very well and the order is correct and done in a timely manner. Was really hoping to love this spot! There are a few really good sushi places nearby but we decided to take a chance and try it out. Heard good things about it but I just was not impressed. At all. We ordered four different rolls. The sushi was a hot mess. Not only was it not that great but it wasn't great to look at either. The rolls were falling apart. The shrimp dumplings were extremely mushy. No texture whatsoever. And the tap water they use for their tea and fountain drinks just really ruined it from the start. I had high hopes. Just didn't hit the mark. We didn't even finish one plate. And with all that was left over, we didn't even care to take it home. Shame. read more

Don't let the "all-you-can-eat" places fool you, that food is garbage compared to this place. The sushi tasted like other sushi places, nothing different or bad about that. It was cheaper than other sushi places I've been too, so that was a plus. We got the Las Vegas roll (our favorite) and was disappointed. There were a lot of pieces in the roll, about 10. It had quantity, but not quality. The Playgirl roll is delicious, you don't get very many pieces in the roll but the ones I got were worth it. We also got the Katrina roll, which is just like the Vegas, but with a 'spicy' mayo on top which wasn't very spicy. The tempura vegetables were surprisingly very good! I suggest getting those. We also ordered the Crunch Much roll. Good, but nothing spectacular about it. My husband liked this place because you got a lot for what you paid for, which he appreciated, but overall I would only go here if I wanted a lot of sushi for a low price. read more

This place is amazing. We've been coming here for 7 years. The food is quick, consistently very fresh and tasty, and for a regular like me, they remember exactly how I like things (rolls with no masago, etc.). Owned by a hard-working Korean family. I'm always amazed that Sushi on Oracle is always packed when this place is right across the street. It's way better, way cheaper, and you don't feel like you're packed in there like sardines! Only 3 stars due to the soup being average and the sushi rolls not being tightly rolled so they sometimes fell apart when lifted. The portions of fish and the crab on the crab salad were very large and I would order the Alaska or Dragon rolls again. read more
