Stopped at the Beaver charging station for a quick bite and charge and decided to try Kan Kun Mexican Food. We ordered the steak fajitas, came with rice and beans and four flour tortillas. We've been frequent visitors here for years during our travels to and from St. George. However, during our recent visit, it felt like there was a shift in how customers are being treated--possibly due to new ownership? When we arrived, we were given a basket of chips, and another basket came out with the $10 guacamole we ordered. However, we were surprised to see a $4 charge for a chip refill. When I inquired, the staff explained that the guacamole doesn't include chips, which seems unreasonable since it's listed as "guacamole dip" on the menu. Additionally, we were charged extra for flour tortillas with our fajitas (apparently only corn tortillas are included) and for a side of sour cream we had requested. None of these extra charges were disclosed when we placed our order--they only became apparent when the check arrived. If there are going to be additional charges for items that seem standard, it's essential to inform customers upfront. I'm out here in Beaver, Utah for work reasons. Wanted to try some local places and came across this place . Disclaimer it is important to know where ever you are in Utah, they have a rule where you need to purchase food with a drink, you cannot just have a drink and leave. Now for the ambiance of this place, it was okay, very bland. Typical normal booths and table seating. Food was decent, nothing too special and they did forget to get my tortillas even though I asked twice . The margarita was so sweet and it felt like juice with no alcohol . Pork tamales were a miss for me, shrimp enchiladas, steak and shrimp fajitas are good... The waitress my wife and I had was great, she did the best she could with the amount of business at the time and was pretty helpful.... Visited Kan Kun as we were passing through on a road trip. We joked with the waitress about how most Utah salsa is like ketchup. She said, "oh you like hot?" And then brought out some of the hottest salsa I've ever experienced. We pass this restaurant dozens of times a year on our drive along I15. It is where we stop to charge our car. But we never stop for some reason. Tonight was the perfect time and I am happy we did. It wasn't busy, it is not a big big place. It was quiet. There was a constant stream of people through. The food was hot when it came out and just the perfect amount of time. The ingredients are fresh. I had the Kan Kun appetizer which is an avocado mashed with red pepper flakes and deep fried in a light pastry puff like dough. Not heavy like a tortilla. It comes with a yummy mango dipping sauce. Now if I were making it....I would put those little diced tomatoes that are on the side on the inside. Their tea is very good. We also had ground beef enchiladas with a savory rich red sauce that isn't like anything you've had. It has a complex spice mixture. Delicious. Everything was great and the server was very nice. Went in for dinner. Greeted and seated as I walked in! Ate the KanKun shrimp tacos. Instead of aioli got the wonderful mango sauce. Corn tortillas warmed thoroughly, generous amount of delicious perfectly cooked shrimp. Just right amount of slaw. I opted no beans/rice. Mango sauce is made in house. I was delighted by how delicious the salsa was. Then when my enchiladas came with red and green sauce I realized this is an excellent but simple restaurant.
