It's long but worth the read! I had extremely dry hair when I first went to YH Salon and I was always told (no matter what salon I went to) that deep conditioning treatments were what I needed. But guess what? Those were only temporary fixes & my hair always went back to dry and brittle forcing me to try & but more products- always more expensive and not working! I came to this salon on a recommendation from a friend. My first time there I got the Essential Blowout performed by their Junior stylist, Moni. She did a beautiful job!! Best Blowout I ever got! It lasted a few days and my scalp didn't feel oily afterwards because (as she explained) they use their own Essential Rinse product in btwn wash & condition. She told me it was an all natural product that acts like a toner for my scalp. It removes the residue from the products, actually making the shampoo and conditioner work BETTER. (I like the sound of that) After that, I decided to try them for a haircut. After discussing with the front desk how I like to wear my hair, I was paired up with senior stylist, Cheryl. She did my cut in record time and it was perfect! She recommended a product that she liked (and it smelled amazing) but didn't force it on me, which is good bc I hate when they do that LOL and what happened when I left the salon shocked me so much that I am now a forever client. EVERY place I went since getting my haircut with Cheryl, ppl have complimented my hair!! That's NEVER happened. Even after I washed it and styled it on my own, people noticed and complimented. If you really want to save your hair or keep it shiny, beautiful and super healthy-- I suggest doing what they say! They carry great product lines that actually work like Rene Furterer (I've been using the Okara shampoo & Karite pre-wash oil), Rahua, and now just found out they will be the exclusive Tribeca retailer for Kevin Murphy! I went to Younghee Salon as a model for the Cezanne smoothing treatment -- the salon was offering this keratin treatment to models for $50 before making it available at full price to the regular customers. I didn't feel like a guinea pig in the least bit. Juan, the salon manager, was very quick in responding to my emails and offering his honest accessment of the product. Yumi, the stylist who did the treatment, was thorough, gentle, and gave me an incredible scalp massage. Yumi and Luz worked together to give me the perfect smooth blow-dry at the end. They even gave me generous travel-sized bottles of the special sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to use to maintain the treatment, and let me grab a few samples of Younghee's special apple cider vinegar scalp rinse. Overall, I am very satisfied with the Cezanne smoothing treatment. It didn't modify my natural coarse and curly hair texture, but it did completely eliminate my hair's propensity to frizz upon exposure to any moisture. My hair feels very smooth and soft to the touch, and when I get a blow-out, it lasts practically forever, looking perfect for over a week. I received the treatment back in late October. I will start this review off by admitting that I was never one to care for my hair. All I cared about was the length of it and if I had the perfect bed hair so I could say #IWokeUpLikeThis. Over time I did notice that my hair was not as thick and strong as it was when I was younger but I just accepted this because I was getting older. Younghee saw my hair and knew immediately, from the way my hair flowed and felt, that she had the cure. She booked an appointment for me, with amazing stylist Chloe, on April 13th. On this day, I went in without much expectations because again, I was clueless about haircare. When I was in the chair, I was greeted by Chloe and Younghee's adorable puppy Hendricks! While she walked me through what was to come, I had a refreshing hibiscus ice tea. I chose to do the Essential Tousled Blowout which included the Essential Rinse and massage. When it came time for the rinse, I could hear my hair smoothly being brushed. It was such a crazy experience because my hair is ALWAYS tangled and to hear a clear crisp brush sound was insane to me haha. I bleach my hair a lot so it's very dry and damaged that I hated brushing my hair. Ever. After we were done, I could feel how soft and free my hair felt. I would turn my head back and forth just to listen to my hair go swish-swish. It took me back to when I was a child and I would hear all the adults being envious of my hair haha. Back then I didn't understand but now I totally do. I stayed there for longer taking endless selfies because I couldn't believe this was my hair. I needed to document this day haha. I decided that day to write my first review on Yelp because I wanted everyone to know about Younghee Salon. I wanted to write a review sooner but I wanted to continue to use the rinse for a month and really give an honest review. People to this day notice that my hair looks healthier and asked me what product I was using. And I would tell them that it's Younghee's hair toner! Who knew we all needed this in our lives! Within an hour, my thin-hair-with-too-many-layers was transformed into a sleek and very flattering cut. Unbelievable! I have no idea how she did it. It was my first time getting the Essential Blowout in the salon and I couldn't be happier! They started with a sit in shampoo and a scalp massage which was so relaxing. Afterwards I was taken to the sink to wash off the shampoo. They applied a product called Essential Rinse which was created by the owner of the salon. I went to have my frizzy hair treated. Yumi and another stylist did the treatments. It looked good when I left the salon even though she burned me twice with the flatiron . When I arrived at home I noticed the hair around my face was extremely broken , frizzy and I had sideburns from the hair that broke over my ears. Also when I washed my hair it was frizzy and I had many split ends and my hair was breaking off. When I sent them pictures and a note they said they would discuss it and thank you for my feedback . I was extremely pleased with the service I received here yesterday. My colorist was KevEon. He is extremely talented, patient, and polite. He was able to accommodate me with a 10am appointment for a balayage. This is the first time I decided to change up the style to balayage - instead of highlights. I was not disappointed. I was a bit nervous but he talked me through every step of the project and assured me not to be worried. I was extremely pleased with the outcome - see the before and after photo! If you want a positive turnout on highlights or balayage - don't think twice about calling Younghee Salon and requesting KevEon. Highly recommend it. Unfortunately cannot comment on the actual styling, but felt seriously disrespected by management. Was going to be a model for a blow out and apt was booked same day. They asked me to come in an hour later so I killed time in the neighborhood which is far from my home. I got there, sat down in a chair and three minutes later was asked to leave by a curly haired manager. All I did...? I mentioned I had an interview and asked if the blowout would last until tomorrow. Her attitude changed immediately after, saying that was she didn't think I would be a good match for a salon. I have no clue what I said or did to be rushed out with an "eff you" smile by that lady. Maybe her apprentice was so new she was worried I wouldn't like the blow out but seriously it's a blow out...it can be washed. I understand this was a free of charge apt but I felt like crying as I was being told to leave. I've never been asked to leave anywhere before. These people ate up hours of my day. Fun side note, she did offer a full price blowout as she was smiling and telling me to leave ..... Pretty looking salon, nasty attitude. My hair is not lovely. It's limp, lacks luster, it falls out everywhere, and it's graying way too early for this to be acceptable hair graying behavior. There have been many days where I have I woken up and thought to myself that if I had better hair, life would be easier. Then Ashton cheated on Demi and I realized that if anyone could cheat on that hot head of hair then I should shut my face. My expectations of my hair are, fair enough, at zero. At this point I just want it to stay on top of my head. This in and of itself has been an issue lately. So when I walked into Younghee recently and plopped down in Cheryl's chair I really was not anticipating any awesomeness to occur. I have been to the most expensive places and seen the most expensive people and I have gone to Super Cuts. I tell them to do what will make me look best but I always look the same. I sit in the chair with a shaggy graduated medium length cut, I get out of the chair with a shaggy graduated medium length cut. The fact that I even know what the hell a graduated cut is should speak volumes. It's like Groundhog Day the movie except it costs as much as Titanic. But Cheryl changed all of that recently. She's down to earth, which I love, and not too talkative, something else i love, and most importantly, she gave me a new cut that I hadn't tried before. A blunt yet layered shoulder length that made my limp lusterless hair actually have bounce. As my hair is naturally wavy, it was even cuter when I woke up the next morning. Even better, every time I wash it and blow dry it.... it still looks great. As every girl will tell you, this is a huge f'ing deal. Despite the Tribeca location, it's not at all pretentious. The same lady that is washing your hair will also most likely be the one cutting it. It's not large either, and as my roommate discovered before me, they remember their repeat customers and treat them well. Definitely going back. Definitely love Cheryl. She doesn't do coloring but that's okay, I prefer that she specializes instead of offering complimentary services that might not end up as well as her haircuts do. read more

Before I started seeing Younghee, I always got much cheaper haircuts and I was never happy with them because my hair would grow out and imperfections would show up (this is what happens with straight Asian hair). I have gone form dark to full blonde, and back to dark within past 5 years, and would not be able to get out "alive" if it wasn't for Tania Nieto. She has been the best hair stylist I have ever dealt with. Always thorough, focused, very knowledgeable & experienced, really goes out of her way to make me happy with the result, leaving my hair healthy and beautiful. I have a very sensitive scalp, and after an hour of sitting in a hair salon's chair I am ready to just get up and escape to Africa, this uncomfortable & painful it gets for me. With Tania it is always bearable, she is very gentle, and sometimes even takes her gloves off to reduce hair pulling, even if it is bleach she is working with at the moment (I have never asked her to do that, but she does it anyway to make me feel more comfortable). Working in the beauty industry, looks are very important. How I represent myself is how I represent the company. I have been living in NY for 5 years now and have been going to Younghee for 4 years. Before I found Younghee I went to a dozen stylists. It was a perfect match when I had my first hair consultation with Younghee. She had me when she said, "This is our first date. We'll see how it goes and if there will be a second." Well there have been many dates after that. Younghee is exceptional at what she does. She is very thorough and her ensures that her staff and salon is as well. I get my haircut from Younghee, my color done by Mia, and I recently got a perm from Yumi. I received so many compliments on my perm. My hair is super straight. I never blow dry or even brush my hair and it never has a tangle or frizz in it. After the perm, I had volume, movement, and it looked like I got a blow out everyday! Perfect beach hair any day without having to style it one bit. Everyone who has asked about my hair was shocked when I told them it was a perm. I booked another appointment for a cut and color. I want to get another perm since my hair has grown out but I think it would be best to see what Younghee recommends. Younghee salon is amazing. They are professional and educational. I've been going to this salon for almost 10 years, so this review is long overdue, but I definitely write this with thorough knowledge of the salon. The quality has gone down significantly. I have gone for both cut and color. I will start with a positive - the salon is focused on health of hair. While Younghee is talented and doesn't rush through appointments, she totally overcharges (I have seen someone else who does celebrities' haircuts who charges way less than Younghee). Aside from Younghee's exceptionally high prices for cuts and their coloring prices as well, Younghee is not a good listener, is very defensive, and personality wise, is incredibly difficult. I used to get nervous before appointments with her because she is so tough. She makes the salon have a very tense environment. Prices for cut and color are increased a good bit almost annually. I also have gone to the salon for color, and Mia is very talented. However, the color the salon uses if VERY cheap in quality (because they don't want to spend more to buy good color and have it cut into their profit margin). It's one of my biggest complaints of the salon. The colors aren't good and they have limited good blonde options, and colors wash out before 7-8 weeks. While when coloring hair, it's difficult to keep the colors as bright the whole time, the quality of the coloring products they use at the salon are so poor that the color really washes out. I've tried many salons for color, and the quality is noticeably bad. They use Wella color, which is one of the cheapest brands out there I hear. Last, they underpay the people at the front desk, and Younghee is such a tough person to work for, that I hardly ever see the same person working there for more than 2 visits in a row. The front desk frequently gets bookings wrong. Quality matters. With some small changes - like spending more on color products, paying the front desk more so they can retain some quality employees (and treating them properly), and maintaining a professional/friendly environment, would improve the salon a great deal. read more

I had high expectations of this place since I read some great reviews but I wasn't happy with the way that Cheryl cut my hair. I can see how someone with curly hair would love getting their hair cut here b/c they do a great job with straightening your hair but my experience was disappointing. The shampoo was great, but the technique that Cheryl used was bizarre. She first blows your hair dry and then uses a flatiron to make it straight. Then she does the haircut. While she is precise, I was really unhappy with the way my hair came out. It looked really flat. I asked her to blow out my hair like normal but she said that wasn't part of her technique. At $135 a hair cut, you'd think she could accommodate her clients. Needless to say, I came home and washed it out right away. read more

She cuts my hair with longevity in mind which means that I only go in twice a year because the cut is designed to grow out well. The salon is conveniently located and generally low key and quiet (compared to other salons). Younghee always takes her time and I thoroughly enjoy our bi-annual chats. The salon is not cheap but neither is the service. If price is your main concern, this isn't the salon for you. If you are looking for a professional and flattering cut, look no further. She's a hair sculptor and so precise and always keeps my cut looking fresh and modern. But even more important, my hair and scalp were so unhealthy - gross! I wanted to love this place, I wanted it to be my new salon but I actually got one of the most ill-suited cuts of my adult life here. I didn't expect life-changing cut but just solid, "good" cut for the $145 plus 20% tip, double what I typically spend on a cut in NYC. I have fine, med-long length layered, easy wash & go straight hair. I told the stylist, Huich, that she could do whatever she wanted and explained that I almost never ever blowdry my hair. She opted to just bring up the length a bit with a good trim, give some extra layering for shape & body etc., nothing crazy. Okay, fine with me, I would have done a pixie cut if this salon said it was the way to go. She spent a very long time on it, dry cutting, and I received a nice blowout as well. Day of, it looks like a short version of the Farah Fawcett cut, pretty. Next day, ever day after, all the ends of my hair flip out terribly and appear to have been razored or thinned out somehow, I now have fly-away, jagged, strange wispy ends and layers all around my head, even toward the back. I thought maybe I just didn't "get it" or needed to dry or style it (exactly what I explained I don't do) but believe me, it is the cut. I called a few days later to find out if I was doing something wrong with it and the salon offered to fix the cut for free but I declined because a) I have never had bad cut fixed and felt funny about doing that when this place is supposed to be phenomenal b) the layers are short and wispy and strange that I think I need to wait until it grows out and then go somewhere else and ask they make the layers blunter (not a blunt cut, but blunter layers so there is some weight back in my hair). To be fair: 1 star awarded for the lovely decor, 1 start for personable manner of all staff, adorable dog and the long time spent on cut, 1 star awarded for the offer to look at it again but my oh my, without these things I would say overall this was a 1 star cut at a 5 star price, no thanks, never again! Again, I truly wanted to love it and be a devoted customer but I now hate my otherwise easy hair. read more
