Let me start off with my husband is a fish snob. He could eat fish for all 3 meals each day. We had coupons from the Chowder Fest for this restaurant that had expired over a year ago! We finally made it here and brought the expired coupons...just in case. They were graciously accepted, we each got a free bowl of Clam chowder and they were fantastic! My husband was in the beginning stages of fish love! Ha! My husband ordered the Jerk swordfish tacos and I had the fish and chips....we love to compare those to many other seafood restaurants and from as far as Ireland, England and Scotland. He absolutely was blown away by the Jerk tacos and he also tried my fish and chips...all the fish is super fresh! They just melted in our mouths. The chips had a light seasoning which went well with the fish. The fish was lightly battered and was just delightful. We had leftovers and ate them the next night and we decided they were the best fish and chips we've ever had! My husband also loved his tacos. If all that wasn't enough, the place is super clean, has a nice condiment station and has a cute nautical decor. Wish we had made here before this! We went on the way home from a Costco run. What a pleasant contrast Kanaloa is to that circus! We were warmly greeted by Renee who helped with our lunch selection. My daughter, who firmly believes that "fish are friends, not food" :-/ got a chicken club sandwich which came with gorgeous house made chips and plenty of delicious bacon. She was super happy with her choice! I got Korean salmon tacos and a shrimp ceviche. I was really hesitant about all of the fruit in the ceviche description but Renee rightly encouraged me to try it: I found it super fresh tasting, crunchy from finely chopped cucumber and jicama, sweet from the pineapple... perfect with the fresh shrimp... amazing! A business associate and I stopped by to check out the fish market and have a bite to eat. The restaurant section is very small, but bright and clean. (Kanaloa is primarily a wholesale processor and the fish is very expensive, but its all top-notch, as fresh as you can get anywhere - you can watch their staff dress out the fish through the glass.) We tried the clam chowder and three different tacos: shrimp al pastor, salmon Korean style and the jerked albacore (nothing battered and fried). All three of the tacos were excellent - beautiful presentation, delicious combinations of fish, garnish and sauces. The fish was cooked correctly - shrimp and salmon tender, albacore firm but not hard. The cook did a very nice job. The soft flour tortillas were fine and each taco was big. Yes, more expensive than most fish taco joints, but far better and worth the price. BTW... some of the photos people took are misleading - what we had looked great and tasted even better. The clam chowder was good, not great, but the soup is certainly not canned stuff as another reviewer seemed to suggest. Yes, add black pepper to taste... that's as it should be. No, it wasn't molten hot, but soup gets cold very quickly particularly at the top, unless one takes special precautions like drinking it right down. My pineapple-lemonade was very refreshing, too. So, everything we had was good or great. Very nice, friendly service, smiles from all the staff. I appreciate that. We definitely will be back. If I worked a bit closer, I would eat lunch there every week! read more

The first time I ate at Kanaloa Seafood I had their special: macadamia crusted yellowtail atop a cheesy potato cake with a butternut squash sauce. It was delicious! The fish was mild in taste but big on flavor! Today I am having the Korean Salmon fish tacos with French fries. I can't tell you how amazing they are! The salmon is perfectly grilled in a light corn tortilla topped with kimchi, cabbage and a zesty sauce, YUM! The fries are nicely seasoned and thick cut. I also got the old bay potato chips, you cannot stop eating them! They are super addicting. This place is super cute, fun and fresh decor, bright and airy. Just had a few bites of clam chowder and left the rest. Here is a free suggestion. If I had a thermometer I would guess it would have read 100 degrees if that, much below health code requirements. I would tell you what seasonings it lacks but I'm sure a fine chef would know. Your chowder tastes like it comes straight out of a can and you don't try to kick it up a little.
