He was attacked by a coyote last week, and the staff here have taken such amazing care of him. We have gone to Kanan Veterinary Hospital (KVH) for 8-9 years with all our pets. When we first started going they were wonderful. They're under new ownership now and are absolutely terrible. Here's why: PURPOSEFULLY RUN UP COSTS: My dog had diarrhea for two days. Instead of prescribing an anti-diarrheal, which is what all of our veterinarians have always done, the new doctor at KVH had us buy a high-priced probiotic. After giving it to my dog, it turned her ordinary diarrhea into explosive diarrhea, which was far worse than when we brought her in. My wife and I were up all night cleaning up poo! The next day we complained and asked to return the probiotic and wanted a prescription for real medicine. Instead, they sold us a "medicine," which after we got home, we realized was another probiotic at twice the cost of the first probiotic (the first they sold for $50 and the second they sold for $100)! BTW, the same probiotic they sold for $100 is available on Amazon for $20 for same day delivery. They refused to take either as a return!!! CRUEL TO ANIMALS: The new ownership at KVH is perfectly content letting dogs anguish in pain and discomfort so long as they can sell pseudo-treatments at grossly inflated costs. They make a lot more money doing this than they would prescribing actual medicine. DISHONEST. In addition to everything else, the new ownership at KVH refused to write a prescription for actual medicine, stating they were unable to do so because the doctor was in surgery. As it turns out, after we told them we would never visit their practice again and requested copies of all our files, the doctor came out of her office to tell us we were no longer welcome. Turns out she wasn't in surgery after all and could have easily written the prescription if she wasn't so focused on selling us damaging probiotics for $150. BUSINESS IS FAILING: When the prior owner ran things, the office was always busy and it was hard to get an appointment. Now, the place is dead and you can basically get in whenever. I know that sounds good but it shows the new ownership can't retain clients.... I wonder why. We've had other bad experiences since the new ownership came in, but this review is too long and I've lost the energy for this. I end the review by stating that we brought my dog to Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital and the doctor immediately prescribed actual medicine and my dog is doing much better. Very Disappointing Experience I'm extremely disappointed by my experience with Kanan Veterinary Hospital today. I brought my two brother cats to Kanan in May for their checkups and had a very positive experience. The doctors and staff were kind and professional, and an appointment was made for August 21 for their dental cleanings. I understood that both cats were scheduled. This morning, I drove 45 minutes at 7:00 AM with both cats, only to be told that their system showed an appointment for just one cat. I explained that this appeared to be a scheduling error on their side and asked if they could please accommodate both cats, considering the long drive and the stress involved in bringing two cats to the vet. After checking with the doctor, I was told they could only take one. I understand that mistakes happen. What disappointed me was the lack of flexibility or willingness to correct the mistake. Instead of saying, "We made an error and we'll do our best to make it right," I was simply told there was nothing they could do. Anyone who has pets knows how stressful a veterinary visit can be. Having to make another 45-minute trip because of a scheduling mistake I didn't make is incredibly frustrating. Mistakes happen. What matters is how you handle them. I expected more empathy and accountability from a veterinary hospital that I had previously trusted. I hope management takes this experience seriously, because I genuinely expected better from Kanan based on my first visit. read more

They are warm, compassionate, and consistently go above and beyond for both their patients and their owners. When my dog Gunner needed surgery to remove a cancerous growth, I was overwhelmed by both the situation and the cost. Dr. Ravenscroft was the only veterinarian in the area who offered VetBilling, a third-party payment plan service that isn't based on credit. Because of that, I was able to get Gunner the surgery he desperately needed while making affordable payments over time. Knowing Gunner was in Dr. Ravenscroft's care gave me complete confidence throughout the entire process. His expertise, vigilance, and genuine compassion, along with Gabrielle and the staff's kindness and support, made an incredibly difficult time so much easier. Both of my dogs, Gunner and Lola, absolutely adore everyone at Kanan Vet. They get excited when we arrive and happily run up to the staff because they know they'll be greeted with love, attention, and treats. That alone speaks volumes about the trust and care they receive. I noticed that my 75 lb senior dog had an ear infection and wanted to get it treated right away, so I called my normal vet and I could not get an appointment for 3 days at the earliest. I had to have this treated that day so, after quick due diligence, I called Kanan Veterinary Hospital and spoke with Dr Maritxu Ravenscroft's Staff. The reception was so soothing, as they immediately got records for my pet from current vet and they made an appointment for just hours away. They took cultures from both ears and analyzed, cleaned both ears and treated the infected ear. My dog went home comfortable and I impressed. I remembered the feeling, so when he had a mass that opened, and his original Vet was retiring from surgery, I somehow, ended up back at Kanan Veterinary Hospital and Dr Ravenscroft for evaluation and mass removal. After making all the pre surgery checks including previous records, blood and organ functions the staff scheduled and Dr. Ravenscroft completed the mass removals in a few hours. By the way the surgery was over and above what I expected, in a safe manner for my senior best friend. After surgery, the staff sent us home with medications and prepped us for what my behavior should be and what to expect from my fur baby over the next few days. I personally really respected the staff and Dr. Ravenscroft is a good-hearted person trying to build an honest business serving pets and their owners. This was the strangest and most frightening experience. There are two women who own this. One, about 60 took me at 72, outside and scared the heck out of me threatening not to do a review or bad mouth the most horrific vet visit in my life! They get you in, and this same owner tells me their regular Vet is rude and French? Basically I was told by the on call Dr. and the tough lady that this is rare I'd enjoy the visit as the regular Vet is rude and hard to deal with. Run don't walk. I really thought the part owner, clearly street wise, was going to deck me as she threatened me. One of the first things I had to listen to was horrible gossip about a male Vet in Westlake Village I used for years, and that he's a womanizer. I brought in my large breed senior dog who is difficult to get to the vet mostly because of her size. Having a good/caring vet in this location would be so nice! But... Dr. Ravenscroft is rude and and abrupt, but she's French (I am also French, though I didn't reveal this) so I understand her personality. However, she is extremely lazy and absolutely refuses to deal with insurance! They advertise "specials" but really that's a ruse to reel you in to recommend you do more testing, etc... Took my cats into Kanan Veterinary Hospital in Oak Park for a well cat checkup and to discuss a couple of concerns. Dr Ravenscroft and her assistant Jessica were amazing! Both took lots of time to discuss my 2 cats overall health, any issues they may be having, and why we were there. They both seemed to bond with my cats, and my cats with them. We have been going to Kanan Vet since 2021. We have 2 aged dogs that have unique medical issues. We are so grateful we found this Vet clinic! They always make sure to squeeze us in if needed, are so loving and caring to our pets, responsive to emails, and are reasonably priced. Would come to this clinic with my hopes way too high. Just a few days ago I went here because my dog was in pain and was crying all night long. I wanted to see what was wrong and what could be done to help her. She is a pretty big dog so going to the vet isn't easy. The whole time I was there was such a waste of time, especially since this current owner, "vet", Dr. Maritxu Ravenscroft didn't seem to care at all and didn't want to help either. Again my dog is pretty big, she's an English mastiff, and if you are a vet who doesn't like working with bigger breeds of animals, let your customers know ahead of time. Or be a vet who actually wants to help out and properly communicate with your clients. This was my last time coming and my worst experience ever. The vet came in barely said a word to me and then left the room. All she did was trying quickly to examine my dog and did not ask me anything or tell me anything. Later I came to know that she works in tandem with the nurse, therefore usually you can have a communication with her only. Then after she left to go to some other room with a nurse, the nurse came back telling me that they want to put my dog under the general Anesthesia in order to be able to examine her since they are unsure of what they are looking for. BTW my dog was already sedated with Trazodone and Gabapentin by their recommendations when we came to the appointment. Long story short we went to another vet who was able to examine our dog properly while having a discussion with us as the owners of the dog, without any sedated medication prior to the appointment, and most importantly told us that putting my dog under general anesthesia wasn't necessary at all. All I wanted to say is, please, customers, make sure to have always a second opinion, especially if your heart says so, before accepting any action that might not be even necessary for your lovely fur babies. read more

I am so happy I found this place! My senior foster cat needed a minor procedure for which he had to be anesthetized, and I was nervous about it. The rescue I foster for asked me to find a local vet for him, so I called Kanan Veterinary Hospital to make an appointment and they were able to get me one for later that same day. When I arrived, I liked the vibe of the office right away. Everyone who works there - the receptionists, vet techs and the vet herself - are wonderful! My foster cat first received a thorough exam, and his procedure went well. The cost was very reasonable, especially considering everything he needed. I am grateful that this sweet senior was able to receive such excellent care and is now doing well. I would like to share our experience with this vet. We had been to this office before with the prior vets and were very happy. The woman I talked to on the phone initially was nice and helpful as was the vet tech. Dr. Ravenscroft is very abrupt and rude. She showed no compassion or empathy when talking about a possible upsetting diagnosis. When we checked out the gentleman at the desk was more concerned with watching the movie they had on than getting us taken care of. I had to call to get the blood results, had to call again a week later to get the pathology report and according to the date on it, the office had it for two days. My dog post-op. Trying to get them in to fix it was a nightmare. Complete rude staff. Charged another $417 to fix the problem and tried to say I let him lick it and that's why it happened. WRONG There were no nylon sutures externally after the 1st surgery looked like just glue. Gabrielle the office manager is rude and needs to learn how to talk to people. Dr. Maritxu picked my cell phone up after I showed her a receipt on it and said "I don't care" 1st of all that is my property and I didn't permit you to touch my things. I took it back from her and Gabrielle said that's assault... I'm glad they re-fixed my dog but he will NEVER go back there again. They sent him home so high they carried him out on A stretcher and he pooped all over my car. Response to Shawn A. FYI this was all picking the dog up the second time not during the recheck. ( My mom actually took him in for the recheck, I picked him up) My dog's surgical sight opened on Saturday. He was not put in a doughnut until Sunday which I explained to you guys. I was trying to show the Dr the receipt on my phone. That's when the doctor grabbed my phone and said she didn't care. Unfortunately, my dog is 87 lbs and does not fit through my house with a standard collar. I have attached the post-op instructions stating a collar OR a scarf-like neck protector Is warranted. I am a first responder with a working dog. During the LA fires we were deployed in Malibu. My dog sustained a significant cut to her front paw which was bleeding profusely. I managed to get the bleeding stopped temporarily but she needed emergency veterinary care. Unfortunately, no vets were available in base or nearby facilities. I called the Kanan Veterinary Hospital and they told me to bring her in immediately. I found my way and was relieved to see the friendly staff who took me in right away. Dr. Ravenscroft was kind, compassionate and caring. She is very knowledgeable. She cleaned and cared for my dog's paw and said she would make a full recovery. Within a short time, my dog's paw was healed sufficiently to get back to work. Dr. Ravenscroft and her staff were very professional and thorough in assessing my 17 year old Shichon's dental problems. They explained the reasons for anesthesia to remove some decayed teeth and the precautions they take by doing bloodwork before surgery to make sure he was healthy enough to handle the procedure. They gave me an estimate from least to most costs, depending on how many teeth would be impacted. I brought him in early in the morning, and they called during surgery to let me know he was doing well under anesthesia, and they ended up having to extract 16 teeth. I picked him up at 2:30 with 3 kinds of meds and took him home to rest. The next day, he was eating soft food, drinking water and pain free because of the Gabapentin. It's been a couple of weeks and it was an uneventful recovery, except now when he smiles, he looks like Snaggletooth! read more

The veterinarians at this hospital truly care about their patients. Dr Ahrabi ran several diagnostics on our min pin to find out why he was losing weight and vomiting. He found the right meds to give him and now he is good as new. Dr Ravenscroft saved our lab/Great Dane's life by quickly finding internal bleeding and telling us to rush him to a hospital that could do emergency surgery.
