    Gunner & Lola

Dr. Ravenscroft, Gabrielle, and the entire team at Kanan Veterinary Hospital are absolutely amazing. They are warm, compassionate, and consistently go above and beyond for both their patients and their owners. When my dog Gunner needed surgery to remove a cancerous growth, I was overwhelmed by both the situation and the cost. Dr. Ravenscroft was the only veterinarian in the area who offered VetBilling, a third-party payment plan service that isn't based on credit. Because of that, I was able to get Gunner the surgery he desperately needed while making affordable payments over time. Knowing Gunner was in Dr. Ravenscroft's care gave me complete confidence throughout the entire process. His expertise, vigilance, and genuine compassion, along with Gabrielle and the staff's kindness and support, made an incredibly difficult time so much easier. Both of my dogs, Gunner and Lola, absolutely adore everyone at Kanan Vet. They get excited when we arrive and happily run up to the staff because they know they'll be greeted with love, attention, and treats. That alone speaks volumes about the trust and care they receive. What sets Kanan Veterinary Hospital apart is how genuinely they care. Every member of the team treats my dogs as if they were their own. I am beyond grateful for Dr. Ravenscroft, Gabrielle, and the entire Kanan Vet staff. There truly aren't enough words to express how thankful I am for everything they've done for Gunner and Lola. I will never take my dogs anywhere else. -- Ashley, Jordan, Gunner & Lola

Such sweet staff that made both me and my fur baby feel comfortable and well cared for. Gave my baby treats and were very gentle with her. They give you all the information you need (prices, what treatment/medication/vaccine they are suggesting and why) and are not pushy on any treatments, vaccines, etc, which adds to the comforting atmosphere. 10/10 recommend

Best vet in town! I have bengal cats and Australian cattle dogs and there's no one I trust more than Dr Ravenscroft!!

This was the most empathetic veterinary group I've ever had the pleasure of going to. We had to assess our Charlie for quality of life and Dr. Slaton was very sensitive and caring and confirmed our decision to make a difficult choice. In addition, he and his staff made our decision easier. The things that they did were very loving including allowing us time with Charlie and allowing him to have a Hersheys kiss before he passed. We spent some time after he passed and left after they had taken Charlie away. In the days that followed we received flowers and a sympathy card from their office. When we picked up Charlie's remains they were presented in a beautiful box along with a lovely paw print. Slaton veterinary made a very difficult time a thoughtful and caring time. I highly recommend their services.

I am disappointed by this response because it does not address the substance of my review and…read moreinstead seems to frame my concerns as the understandable distress of someone whose dog is facing serious medical problems. That is not what this is about. I have three Golden Retrievers and have had many dogs over the years. I understand that dogs age, become ill, and develop serious medical problems. That is a painful but inevitable part of loving them. I do not blame a veterinarian because my dog is sick. My concern is the care Emma received when I brought her in because she was sick and in pain. I brought her in twice for an unexplained limp and expressed that I believed something was wrong. No X-rays were taken. Imaging performed elsewhere later showed severe destruction of the ulna near her elbow and significant risk of fracture. I also raised concerns about persistent skin inflammation, recurring ear problems, and irritation around her mouth. These issues improved rapidly after she received different treatment from another veterinarian. These are specific concerns about clinical decisions, not expressions of sadness about having an older dog. Saying that you understand how upsetting it is when a beloved companion has serious medical issues does not address them. I also find it difficult to reconcile the statement that the practice would "welcome the opportunity to discuss" my concerns directly with the fact that no one contacted me after my review was posted. Weeks passed, and this public response was the first outreach I received. If anything in my review is factually inaccurate, please identify it. I would also welcome an explanation of how the specific care decisions I described were consistent with the "thoughtful, evidence-based medicine" referenced in your response. Emma being sick is not the complaint. The complaint is what happened when I repeatedly brought a sick and painful dog to this practice for help.

This morning, I had to bring my 18-year-old dog, Sunny, to be put to sleep. I was very emotional and I was placed in a room shortly after our arrival so we could have privacy. Sunny had late stage kidney disease but for the past year, Skyline provided us with excellent care. They were always available for questions and allowed me to come in on short notice for multiple appointments. They didn't immediately push me to see a special internal medicine doctor, which would have prolonged Sunny's suffering as well as my own stress. The Skyline staff was with me every step of the way. I can't thank Dr. Messri enough for his kindness today. He explained everything clearly and was so gentle to Sunny as she passed. I can tell Dr. Messri, Dr. Cyrus, and the staff work really hard and truly care about their patients. I look forward to receiving care for my other dog, Mona, for many years to come.

I decided to do so to share my experience and allow an opportunity for growth. I wanted to be proactive so I am thankful this wasn't an emergency. My pup has extreme allergy issues. I recently moved to So Cal from No Cal and started a new vet relationship. I explained to Dr. C what the pups experience had been and what I needed. I thought that went well. Scheduled a follow up visit to check in and review protocol as this is when his allergies take a bad turn. I specifically requested Dr c again and was told to come on a Tuesday. I arrived 10 mind ahead of appt to give them time to check me in and to be respectful of their time. First - Dr C wasn't even scheduled to work that day. It appears they may have double booked as there was another couple waiting with their pup. We both were taken to a room and the other couple were seen right away. I waited over half an hour and nothing. When I stepped out to ask if the vet tech could at least vaccinate the pup that seemed to throw everyone for a loop. Please no it is a large and appears to be quiet office. Many people seem to have not a lot going on and it appeared as if I may be disturbing then rather that being a paying customer with a request. When after standing around and nothing seemed to be happening other than just wait around. I thought this wouldn't work and left and got what seemed not of pure intent with a have a good day. If you are a parent you know what I mean when I say tone wasn't genuine. Now I am not angry just disappointed at people lack if care and kindness. I chose to drive further looking for a responsive and kind business. For me, this is not it. I was able to start service with a new vet within 2 miles from where I live. My message, be kind but expect the same in return. If not, go somewhere else. That is all we can do.

The first time we went we saw Dr. Kohltfarber. He was very kind and explained what was going on in clear language, and answered all of our questions about how to care for our dog after leaving. The most recent time we went we saw Dr. Ferdowsian. She had to share some scary news with us but was so professional and down to earth that, even though I did feel a bit panicked, I was able to ask all of the questions I needed to and I left feeling hopeful about our dog's plan of care. She also contacted us after our visit to check in and was very compassionate and attentive with all of our concerns. Because of her quick findings at our most recent visit, we were able to get our dog scheduled for surgery at a specialty center that same week to have the issue resolved. Now our dog's quality of life is back to normal, and we couldn't be happier. They are also very clear about costs, including explaining all of our options for diagnostics and treatment. We felt their costs were fair too. We never felt confused or lost, even when we brought our dog in for a more complex problem. If your pet has an emergency I would absolutely recommend them.

The staff at Oaks Veterinary were very kind to us and sat us in a semiprivate room up front while Dr. Jimenez did some tests on our kitten (he's 12, but he'll always be our kitten). The diagnosis was Feline Idiopathic Cystitis and we were sent home with a variety of medicines, some cans of prescription urinary care food, and orders to follow up with our primary vet in about a week for more tests. Everything was pretty pricey at $1700, so I appreciated that they gave us the cans of food for free (which our primary vet didn't do when we eventually followed up). They also sent the records over to our primary vet, which I appreciated. I had to follow up with the office staff about getting copies of the records for myself and, when I reached out with concern about how long it should be taking Atticus to recover, it took about 5 days to get back to me. Those are the only reasons it's not 5 stars. Lots of parking and food places nearby if you need to wait.

A vet tech took us into the exam room and went straight to a Parvo test, despite my telling him she was fully vaccinated, including for Parvo. No bloodwork was done first. While we waited on results, my puppy was already starting to perk up. The vet came in and delivered the "bad news": my dog had Parvo, looked "rough," was "fading," and needed 3-5 days of round-the-clock IV care. When I declined the multi-day admission, they pushed me to at least do the "bare minimum to save my puppy" -- a combination of shots and subcutaneous fluids quoted at $3,300. When I said no and asked to take her home instead, I was told she "probably wouldn't make it until Monday." That's when I felt like I was being played. On top of all this, the whole process was painfully slow -- we didn't leave until almost 2 AM. She was back to normal by Saturday morning: playing, eating, and wrestling with my other dogs. My own vet ran the same Parvo test on Tuesday morning, and it came back negative. This clinic preyed on a scared owner in the middle of the night with a false diagnosis and scare tactics. I took my 15-year, 8-month-old dog "Champ" to the clinic for a rabies antibody (titer) test required for international travel. Dr. Kiumarsi knew my dog's age and medical history, yet no one explained that, because of his advanced age, there was a possibility his antibody level might be too low to pass the test or discussed giving him a rabies booster before performing the expensive titer test. I paid nearly $600 for the test, and the result came back negative. Only afterward was I told to bring my dog back for a rabies booster, wait another month, and then pay for a second titer test. This delayed my travel plans to Turkey by almost four weeks and increased my expenses. My frustration is not that the test was negative--it is that I was never informed beforehand about the risk of a failed result or the option of administering a booster first. Had I been given that information, I could have made an informed decision and potentially avoided unnecessary cost and delay. I expected honest guidance and recommendations that considered both my dog's wellbeing and my time and financial investment. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Townsgate Pet Hospital. I had to fill out some additional paperwork after arriving and then waited for a room. They are a smaller pet hospital, so it was pretty low and under-staffed. This means we waited about another 20 minutes to be seen by the doctor, which can be difficult if your pet is impatient and/ or in pain. Dr. K was really nice, though, and addressed our issue and any concerns, giving us an expectant time frame for recovery and what to see over the next couple of weeks. It took about 10 minutes or so to check out due to the amount of people there, which were only a few, and only one receptionist. With that in mind, they were fast for a smaller team, so I would just have a little more patience coming here; but then again, a lot of vets and pet hospitals have long wait times. The prices weren't bad and their exam fee was around $70 for the doctor to diagnose, which is pricy, but pretty average pricing in Westlake Village. The medicine was expensive (as always) BUT I didn't break the bank - which was a nice change. I will most likely be coming back here with my pup the next time we need something!
