The only reason it is not a 5-star is pricing. It is a bit expensive for Cedar Park. The rest is fine - food was good, nicely presented. Nice light atmosphere, friendly service. Toro Roll is a thing to try. Spicy Tataki was really good, definitely recommend K.T. Special - Spicy tuna, crispy lotus, avocado topping, masago, and some sort of house sauce. I was surprised to see Volker Eisele 2015, Cabernet Sauvignon on the menu. It is a less expensive Napa Valley product, usually a bottle goes for $50, they charge $130 or so. However, when a sushi place has Napa Valley Cab on the menu, you can safely assume that the place is okay :) BTW, Volker is not a bad wine :) Anyway, this one is a recommendation. read more

We ordered a few things to share. Appetizers: Nasu Dengaku- roasted eggplant. This may be the best roasted eggplant I've had in my entire life! White Tuna Tataki- Fresh fish. The sauce could use a bit more flavor. Easily the BEST Japanese restaurant in the Austin area, 100% worth the drive up to Cedar Park. The freshest fish and most flavorful sushi I've had in the city, service is absolutely unmatched, and the ambiance of the restaurant is amazing. The uni pasta was DELICIOUS and so were all three of the rolls we ordered (bernie, sue's crunch, lion king). You get pretty large portions in each dish/roll, especially for the price. Everything also comes out fairly quickly and the restaurant is small enough for you to see your rolls being made even when you aren't seated by the counter. The service was the best I've received at any restaurant I've ever been to. Our server was incredibly kind and checked up on us the perfect amount. Waters were never less half full and empty/dirty dishes were taken away almost immediately. The best part was that while service was so attentive, we didn't feel rushed at all and were able to really enjoy our time here. This place has the most authentic Japanese dining experience in Austin with the interior design and layout. We sat at the bar which I enjoyed since the chefs were making the food right in front of us. The food was really good but I found the negi toro (chopped tuna) handroll and the Yuki roll I ordered to be the star of the show. The hand roll had a lot of chopped toro and I felt it was a good value for $9. We also had a California deluxe roll and the Big Toro roll which was the priciest one but they didn't wow me. The Big Toro was obviously deluxe with gold leaf and caviar but I honestly didn't think it was worth it. The service was friendly and they provided a warm hand towel at the start of the meal. Kane is probably the best sushi place I have been to in Cedar Park. They have a variety of rolls to choose from that are big and not just full of rice. My family and I got the Lion King, Volcano, and Big Toro rolls. They were all delicious but my personal favorite was the Volcano roll. We also got the spicy scallop hand roll, which was amazing as well. There is also an option to do omakase in your reservation that I saw many couples partake in for a cute date night idea with your partner. The service was phenomenal as our waiters were super attentive. They filled up our waters often and removed plates promptly to keep our area clear of clutter. The chefs were also super sweet and allowed my cousin to record short videos of them preparing our food. They also answered any questions we had regarding the food and made the experience super pleasurable. This place typically needs a reservation so book in advance! My family and I chose to be seated at the bar so we could be up close and see the chefs prepare all the food. I knew an upcoming spot had been noted, so I had to check it out for myself to see if the hospitality really did live up to the hype. Easily I can say, yes it did. Atmosphere: Very clean and cozy japanese style place. I ended up sitting at the sushi bar and the chairs there are super cozy and spacious. I almost wanted to take a quick nap, but of course couldn't because then I'd miss out on the delicious food. Food: You'll find the usual kinds of sushi and nigiri. Though I am happy to report that a lot of the portion sizes were easily much bigger than what is usually offered, at least from my experience. Prices were comparable too. I ended up getting on of the chef's specials and a few king salmon. I am a sucker for a well prepared salmon dish and oooh this one just makes me want more just writing about it. Though easily the best dish I had was the stone wagyu. Coming on a hot stone as the title says, comes a wagyu prepared by your server cooked right in front so you're getting it as fresh as can be. Melt in your mouth goodness. Service: Everyone was very friendly and attentive, customed with that japanese style hospitality, they made sure I had everything I needed and answered any questions I had. Kane is the best restaurant in Cedar Park, period. My husband and I have been visiting every 2-3 weeks for dinner ever since we moved into the neighborhood 4 months ago, and the quality of their food and service has been consistent every time. The cozy, traditional Japanese interior design paired with a modern menu creates an atmosphere and experience that feels upscale and perfect for date night. Their Saturday evenings book rather quickly, so I recommend making a reservation for any other night of the week. Drinks (4/5) - The white yuzu beer is my go-to, very light and refreshing without overpowering citrus flavor. I find the lychee sake a bit too sweet, and much prefer their house sake which tastes very clean. Love their selection of different teas, as well. A la carte sushi (5/5) - My favorite way to order! Such generous portions of very fresh fish. Quality is on par with Uchiko without breaking the bank. Their more expensive pieces will come topped with caviar and edible gold leaf. I specifically recommend ordering the Buri, O-Toro, Aji, Uni (Japan), A5 Wagyu, and Ikura. Cooked food (4/5) - Get the uni pasta at least once, it's so creamy and delicious with different layers of complex flavor despite being 95% empty carbs and fat. The fried rice here is also amazing, whether it be the chasu or wagyu, and we typically place an order to-go at the end of our meal. Do not order the tonkotsu if you are a ramen snob, the broth and pork will never compare to a specialty shop. Special rolls (3/5) - The only one worth ordering is the Big Toro, because every bite will feel like the first time. The decadence and fattiness of the tuna is addictive, would highly suggest not ruining it with added soy sauce. Sadly, the majority of their remaining special rolls are too heavily drenched in sweet sauces to appeal to the typical American palate. read more

Just WOW! Small, non-descript place in a shopping mall I wouldn't have thought to try but someone on TikTok was raving about it and it's local, so... Couldn't get a reservation so showed up right and 5 and got in. The interior is super cute with clean decor and some traditional looking (tatami?) booths. We were seated at sushi bar and Victoria was our server. She was charming, attentive and helpful explaining the menu. We got: KT Special - spicy tuna on crispy rice (10/10 - no notes). Vegetable Tempura - I was surprised when she recommended it, thinking it would just be the basic "slice of this, hunk of that"...but what we were served was a medley of thinly sliced mixed veg in a beautiful tempura batter with a really delicious sauce. (9.5/10). By now we were actually feeling a bit full (generous portions), so at this point, I ended up cancelling some of what we had ordered! We got a Bernie and a Yuki roll. I didn't try the Bernie (Victoria said it was her favorite and my husband loved it) because it had cream cheese and I'm not a fan of that combo. The Yuki roll was a spicy scallop cut roll topped with hamachi and roe. Absolutely delicious, although not very spicy (9/10). We ended with the hamachi carpaccio, which was 5 generous slices of buttery sashimi in a beautiful sauce with some tasty garnishes (9.5/10) We had a bottle of sake and the bill was less than $130. Kane requires reservations because it's a small restaurant. I booked it about a month in advanced for a friend's birthday. The seating can be a little awkward if you're in a dress, since the bench is kind of like a step too. It's quiet and service is attentive. We ordered a bottle of white wine, which the server poured out into 4 glasses instead of pouring some and leaving the rest in the bottle over ice. The sushi was fresh and well presented. We liked the uni pasta but it's better at Soto. The Hamachi was delicious and super flavorful. I enjoyed the monkfish liver and edamame. Our sushi rolls were fresh, nothing stood out though. I truly will never stop talking about Kane sushi. We were originally sat in a more dimly lit table, but I asked to be moved to sit at the chef's table, and they kindly obliged! I found out that most of the staff speak Chinese, so they were really nice and friendly and would make conversation and check in on us frequently. Food comes out really fast. Timing is truly amazing. We ordered quite a lot of things, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Kane sushi gives you the experience of a really high end Michelin star restaurant for a fraction of the cost. In fact, my friend's and my bill totaled less than $200, and we ordered a LOT. Yesterday was National Matcha Day, so of course my friend and I had to order matcha tea and a matcha IPA. I really loved my tea, and it comes out in a really high quality teapot. My friend's IPA was alright - I think matcha beer just isn't my thing, but I can appreciate the heavy matcha flavor. My friend really enjoyed it. 1. uni pasta - I actually would skip on this. I love uni, but their sushi is the star of the show. The flavor is buttery and decadent, but I definitely wish I had ordered more sushi instead of getting this. However, portion size is REALLY large. 2. hamachi, toro, yellowtail nigiri - They give really fat pieces of fish. Like seriously, it's pretty insane. Prices aren't bad at all either for how large the fish portion sizes are. Every bite was gold. 3. fatty tuna - Look how big the fatty tuna pieces were!! Completely melted in my mouth. This was such a good starter piece. 4. FATTY TUNA ROLL - you have to get this. This was seriously the best roll I've ever had in my entire life. I'm usually very hesitant on getting rolls at sushi restaurants because I get tired of how they taste after a while, but I could've had two of these rolls if I had enough stomach space. There's so much fatty tuna inside each piece of sushi, and they prioritize fish over rice. I really appreciate that. The little pieces of gold foil on top are such a nice touch. You can also really taste the truffle. It's not so overwhelming but rather adds a nice complexity to the sushi pieces. 5. Uni - I can't remember which one we got, but it's not the Santa Barbara one. I prefer my uni on the sweeter side, and the sushi chef recommend we get this one. It was really sweet, and they put a lot of uni on top! So delicious. You can never go wrong with uni. 6. Chestnut cake (add matcha powder on top!) - I didn't see this on the menu, but we actually requested the matcha tiramisu at first. Our waitress informed us that they had sold out, but she highly recommended the chestnut cake. She also noticed we like match and asked if we wanted some matcha powder sprinkled on top (so thoughtful!!). This was SO good. The chestnut paste was delicious, and the entire dessert was actually very light and not too sweet. I literally can't say enough good things about Kane Sushi. I wish it was closer to central Austin, but wow. I would make the drive up to Cedar park to eat at Kane any day of the week. When I lived in Japan, tonkatsu was one of my goto meals, and Kane's tonkatsu was probably the best one I've had since moving back to the states. The outside was nice and crispy and the inside was juicy. Make sure you save room for dessert! Their matcha tiramisu is the perfect not too sweet dessert. I would go to Kane just to get the matcha tiramisu. I loved the furniture at the restaurant. We were seated at the bar but their seats were a so comfortable. Fancy Japanese spot with fresh sushi! The ambiance/decor feels very Japanese and is a big part of the experience. We came in a party of 5 so we were seated at one of the wooden booths. Prices seem pretty reasonable ($6-$15 for nigiri, rolls were about $18, hand rolls were a little less). You can always keep a menu and keep ordering so I would recommend ordering on the conservative side - it's easy to get carried away! The only downside I would mention is the service time, as the dishes basically came out one by one as they were prepared and in no order. Our chicken karaage "appetizer" didn't even arrive until 3 dishes on. It also took quite a while for our dishes to finish arriving. There is plenty of parking in the complex. A good friend of mine had a great experience a few days ago, so I wanted to give Kane a try. Was looking fwd to it. Unfortunately, my experience was different. We had reservations and was on time, no one was at the reception stand, a chef came in from outside the restaurant to flag down a server to seat us. Not an issue here. We ordered some miso soups, apps, 3 rolls and a few nigiris. If we had known how big the rolls were, we wouldn't have ordered 3. They were gigantic, yes for the value, that's a great thing more for your money. However for me, it wasn't adding to the taste. The pieces were falling apart as we picked them up, one roll we had to do 2 bites. And for the first time ever, there was a fish bone in one of the rolls. The nigiri pieces were also huge, the fish was very thick. For me, I don't enjoy biting into a thick cut of fish, somehow it makes the taste different. The restaurant has only been opened a few months. Hopefully will improve over time. I'm glad others had a different experience. If you like large rolls and nigiri, this is a good option for you if you're in the cedar park area. read more

Awesome affordable sushi is Austin is hard to find. We ordered an assortment of nigiri, tempura appetizer and a couple of desserts. The only thing I would not recommend is the tamago is was bland and felt old or was sitting for awhile. I would rather not see the gold leaf and caviar if that means the pricing can be lowered. THE BIG: Small sushi shop in Cedar Park. Small is subjective because it has two gigantic shops next to it. Inside is actually pretty spacious. Tons of parking in the private lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with the wife and co workers on a unassuming Wednesday night. It wasn't too busy so we got to ordering quickly. We were seated inside the booths which is very awkard to get in as you have to step in to sit down. As for food, we got a medley of items that ranged from nigiri pieces (salmon, baracuda), unagi-don, sushi rolls, gyoza and karaage. The nigiri pieces were HUGE! Reminded me of my time in Tokyo. The rolls weren't skimpy at all. Definitely recommend trying a couple of those. The unagi-don was nice and flavorful and is such a simple dish that packs alot of flavor. Rounding out the meal was the matcha tiramisu. It's served in a sake box and boy is it delicious. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done here was ~$160 for a boat load of food between four of us. Definitely would recommend to try if you live in the Cedar Park area and it's cool that they order straight from the Toyosu inner fish market in Tokyo. It took a bit of persistence but I was so happy that my call went through and I was able to get hold of Lisa who helped me secure the first kaiseki reservation offered by Kane. Lisa was so helpful in helping to explain the difference between the omakase and the kaiseki and I was so glad we chose the kaiseki. I would say this kaiseki was more like an elevated omakase using more premium ingredients like white truffle, caviar, gold flake etc...but loved how it embodied omotenashi, as you could truly feel their outpouring of wholehearted hospitality and Chef Kane's passion for his craft. For our kaiseki we were offered 20 dishes, which normally wouldn't fill me. However, Chef Kane does not mess around when it comes to his portions and I was so happy to have left not only full, but able to take some leftovers home! Chef Kane actually told us how he's been criticized for his portions, but he shared how it is his intention for his food to be consumed in more than one bite. So, as a heads up, if you'd prefer smaller pieces of meat and rice, they are happy to accommodate! Oh and for the kaiseki it was really cool to see the difference in rice, as he only uses fresh rice so don't be surprised if it isn't the same as you might be used to. We started the kaiseki seated at the sushi bar with a warm towel to wash our hands, but Chef Kane also encourages you to use your hands so this was kindly refreshed by Lisa throughout our service. The first course we were given was a delicious Chawanmushi topped with a generous amount of uni, caviar, and gold leaf flake. Not only did I think this was delicious but so did my extremely picky child, which says a ton! Then we moved on to tuna, which was so good and loved how we were able to try the different parts of the tuna, akami, chutoro, and my favorite otoro. We then moved on to a variety of other fishes like hamachi, mackerel, yellowtail, king madai, monkfish liver, salmon, which were so fresh and served in various ways either naked or dressed up with some white truffle, uni, caviar, gold flake, or a yummy sauce or seasoning or some freshly grated wasabi. We were served a perfectly cooked miso cod filet, dobin, sweet Ebi, fried ebi head, super fresh and tender scallops, crab, squid, hand torched delicious A5+ wagyu, a few pieces of a roll with the plumpest ikura, both fresh and saltwater eel and a delicious monster handroll. Oh and to end the feast we were given some tamago and a super delicious birds nest soup which was the perfect way to end the course. Overall, I really enjoyed our first experience here and can't wait to come back. I really enjoyed meeting Chef Kane and his wife Lisa, along with his sou chef who were all super friendly and just made the time fly by. I couldn't believe we were eating for about 2 hours! I also can't express enough thanks for their graciousness in opening for my family and I, especially dining with a kid. I can honestly say they went above and beyond for us and really appreciated the ability to enjoy a meal of this caliber in such a relaxing and inviting environment. Kane sushi is my go to place for a la cart sushi. Their nigiri sushi pieces are usually big and fresh. My only complaint is when I was there recently, my chutoro nigiri was a bit chewy due to the connective tissues of the fish. I also didn't enjoy the uni that was on top my the otoro nigiri because the uni taste was too overpowering. The staff is always nice and attentive and I do recommend this place if you're ever in the area. I believe they only take reservations, but they always have plenty of seating available. read more

My husband and I came here for a birthday celebration. We had heard about it through friends who raved about the Omakase menu. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that you had to call the restaurant directly in order to book an Omakasa experience and also that they Omakasa experience was booked out months in advance, however, even dining as regular patrons, we found the menu was very delicious, and the quality of sushi was on par with some of the best sushi restaurants in Austin, The decor of the restaurant is very trendy and Japanese inspired. The restaurant did not get too loud but was open and bright. There's plenty of parking because of its location in Cedar Park and we thought it was easy to find. The service was fantastic. I did not catch the name of our server, but you could tell she really knew the menu and gave fantastic sake and drink pairing options with the sushi plates we ordered. Our favorite sushi was the Otoro of course which this location has available. Other stand outs were the desserts which we found were delicious, especially the crêpe cake. Overall all the sushi we ordered was good quality and good size so you really cannot go wrong! We highly recommend this spot to anyone who is a sushi fan, but not looking to spend the money that you do at other locations in Austin - the price point of this restaurant seemed reasonable, especially for the quality. A new sushi place nestled next to Wayback Burgers and Instill Coffee, the reservations only system peaked my interest a bit so we decided to check it out. First thing that surprised me was that despite the illusion posed by the small entrance, you're greeted by an incredibly spacious, warm interior with high ceilings. The decor is very traditional Japanese with a wide open sushi prep counter. We ordered pretty much everything and were super impressed. The quality of the sushi is easily some of the best in Austin. Some of the highlights were the Hokkaido Scallop Nigiri- which was sweet and incredibly fresh. The Saba (mackerel) Oshizushi , a pressed sushi with very unique presentation and the King Salmon- which was melt in mouth buttery. Alongside sushi they have plenty of hot dishes, which I look forward to trying next time. Everything from ramen, an incredible looking Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) and more. With the open concept it's easy to peek at what others are enjoying. The presentation was absolutely top notch and the servers were incredibly attentive. It's definitely worth making the drive out to cedar park in a random suburban strip mall because once you walk inside, you feel like you are at an authentic Japanese restaurant! The interior is clean, modern, and beautiful! The quality of the fish here is outstanding. You must order the Big Toro Makimono. It is honestly a very good deal for the quality of toro you are getting in this roll. The Kizami wasabi and caviar on top really added another dimension to the already deliciousness of the toro! We also ordered M.T. and Red Crabe makimono. They were both good, and the fish was fresh. The last thing we ordered was the negi toro hand roll and this was our second favorite bite of the night. This is also a must order! The service was amazing. They are still a new restaurant so please give them grace, but you can be assured to have an amazing meal here! Kane ranks as one of the better mid-tier sushi restaurants in Austin, with a beautiful interior and fresh fish. However, they seemed to lack waitstaff at the time of my visit, which resulted in slow service. Note that Kane at the time of this review is reservations only. I called ahead 30 minutes before on a Monday night and was able to put my name down for two. Once we got in, we waited for 5 minutes before the lone waitress, who also needed to do the job of hostess, seated us. It was another 10 minutes before we were served water and had our orders taken. I had wanted to order the Tonkatsu, but I was told that they only serve 5 a day. Thankfully, we did not wait long for food. I ordered a handroll, Spicy Tataki, and M.T. They were all beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Maybe I came at a bad time when they lacked servers, but the food makes up for that at least. read more

The decor and ambiance is wonderful and service was wonderful. Be advised that it is reservations only right now and they are still working out some kinks so there may be a wait at times but it is totally worth it!! We tried the hand rolls, volcano roll and uni pasta and wagging fried rice. Everything is good but we loved the hand rolls. We will be back for the omakase! A friend of mine highly recommended this place so decided to see what the hype is about on our anniversary. All in all, it's a good place for rolls, cooked entrees, shareables. But I wouldn't come back for omakase or the more pricier dishes. Main reason being that this isn't a truly authentic Japanese restaurant. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: - Clean and nicely decorated. Presentation is excellent! Togo boxes are super cute. - The entrees are worth it as it comes with soup, salad, and rice. Rolls were also generous. - fried items on the rolls were fresh - Good service Cons: - Not really authentic. Lacks the attention to details of a Japanese restaurant such as using good Japanese rice. The rice they used was short grain Taiwanese rice. Salmon belly nigiri was just salmon nigiri. - Pricey for the quality of fish and other ingredients. The seaweed on the hand rolls didn't "crunch" when you bite into it, etc. - I asked if the eel rice was freshly grilled eel. They told me yes but it wasn't. "Fresh" oysters were also not freshly shucked. It was pre-shucked oysters from the fridge. $26 for 6 which I thought was high. read more

I recommend getting the non-sushi items. We found those dishes to be innovative, surprising, and simply delicious. The sushi rolls were constructed poorly, falling apart when picked up. The nori used for the handrolls was very thin and soggy by the time the rolls were served. A standout dish for me was the Nasu Dengaku (miso glazed eggplant), and I usually don't like eggplant! Some other things to note - our servers disappeared after everything we ordered had been served. I would also be cautious of the booths if you have any elderly or anyone with disabilities in your group - very awkward to climb in/out of. read more

Great service and overall ambiance. I loved their choices of sushi and the fish were very fresh. The uni pasta was not my favorite (not a big fan of uni), but whoever likes uni would definitely love it! Didn't take a picture, but their matcha tiramisu was a bomb!! Would come back read more
