This is our favorite restaurant in south bend, as we are there at least once a week. We always sit at the bar and get fantastic service (thanks Aaron, Caleb, and Jena). I've never had anything that I didn't enjoy and the chipotle BBQ salmon is my favorite. The ny strip and filet are also outstanding. Brisket tacos are excellent and we switch up appetizers between the salmon spread, the cured meat/cheese tray and the wings. Don't miss out on the Parmesan truffle French fries. On March 4th I had a group of 15 to surprise my husband for his birthday. So this would make a group of 17 people for dinner. Without hesitation they set up a table for us. Such amazing service by one server. She rocked it. The food was outstanding. We had such a great time. I did call a few days ahead to make reservations. Showed up at 1:45pm on a Sunday. I was 3rd in line at the hostess stand, but the hostess was nowhere to be found for at least 5 minutes. By the time she showed up, 2 more couples were in line behind us. This didn't strike me as a "need a reservation" kind of place, but alas, I was told the next available reservation was for 2:15pm, so we gambled a bit and came back. We returned about 2:07pm. The hostess acted like she'd never seen me before, but showed us to a table. The place was not busy AT ALL. There were several empty tables with dirty dishes that sat there for more than 30 minutes and tons of empty seats at the bar. If only the hostess would've mentioned that.... The waitress was perky and attentive, but by this point I'm getting hangry. I ordered "The Burger", which is just a regular cheeseburger with parm fries ($14) and my husband ordered bbq wings ($12 for 5!!!) and a side of parm fries ($8!!!!! FOR FRIES?!?!). At least a 25 minute wait for our food to come out. There was barely any cheese on my burger, but the burger itself tasted good - the only highlight of lunch. Both my fries & my husband's were over cooked and cold. Overpriced, mediocre food with lousy service. We'll be sure to eat elsewhere before going to the casino next time. read more

Our service was horrendous, we had a large group and reserved seating well ahead of time (over a week). Our group members started showing up when seating was almost empty in the place one member of our group had her young daughter with her so they said "we wrote your group in for the line of tables on the bar side of the wall " then instead of setting us up in the other area (which was still almost completely empty) they set us up in 3 different sections. Food wise the food was okay however one member of our fractured party ordered the loaded fries and fried banana peppers after 40minutes we asked where his food was and our server "forgot to place the order" when his food finally came it was regular plain fries. read more

Hit-n-miss. This is the second time going and I've to say, ehhh, it's okay I guess. Three of us went the other night for dinner. Mine was good (hamburger, fries- can't really mess that up too bad), the other was sausage mac and cheese which was okay but the third person ordered fish and chips and they served it in grease, not okay, at all. When we had to ask for paper napkins so he could soak the grease from the fish and the plate, you would have thought they would have done something. On a good note, the service was great and the atmosphere was great as well. There was a person singing and playing the guitar and it wasn't too soft or too loud. Filet was cooked well done instead of medium rare as ordered. Could not get the attention of my wait staff about this issue and finally told the bartender my dilemma who had our waitress sent over. She offered to have another steak sent out, but my husband was done eating (as a VERY lengthy time had transpired - about 20 minutes) so I told her no thanks. I was charged 50% of the meal for eating cold asparagus and instant mashed potatoes (yes - seriously - instant mashed potatoes). I was totally appalled and asked to speak to a manager. The manager was not accommodating and said since I ate all but the steak she had to charge me 50% of the meal. Wow - never, ever will I eat at another Four Winds restaurant. We were seated right away, the waitress took a while to get to our table but she was nice & very knowledgeable about the food and the daily specials. The $12 Long Island iced tea was not strong at all and tasted like lemonade (you can get a $10 top shelf Long Island at the casino bar that tastes much better). Food came relatively quick and it was amazing!!!! The brisket was fall-apart tender and was an inch thick. The fish was piping hot and so crispy! Enjoyed a New Year's Day meal with a limited menu with the family. This is my third time to the Kankakee Grill and once again, it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is very cozy with a dimly lit bar and main dining area with a clear view into the kitchen area. A stately fireplace awaits guests at the back of the restaurant (be sure to check out the outdoor patio in the summer month). The menu and food is a spin on comfort food filled with burgers, Sausage Mac and Cheese and other numerous hearty items. The beer menu is impressive with one of the best craft beer selections in the area. We went for Thanksgiving last year and it was awesome! We went this year expecting the same but it wasn't. The butternut squash soup didn't have any candied bacon on it, we had green beans instead of the roasted carrots with candied bacon, a tiny bit of stuffing, which was good, but not enough. Good atmosphere for drinks and dinner. Has live music on Fridays and Saturday's that has always been good when I've been there. Great outdoor seating area. Food is good, not great, but some items like burgers, steaks, and fish and chips are very good. Drinks are very good too with a beautiful, well stocked bar. The hostess didn't make eye contact with us, she informed us there were no empty seats at the bar. Then she was so rude and demeaning to the other hostesses that were trying to help us. Attended Kankakee Grill in the recently opened Four Winds Casino, located in South Bend, IN. March 4, 2018 at 2:30 pm. Absolutely, one of the worst experiences. Sat at the bar for over 15 minutes with no service. The couple next to use said they had been waiting 25 minutes to order. Nellie was one bartender, but was so frazzled and not professional. I went to hostess, which located a female manager, who was also behind bar. However, she was also frazzled. We finally did order after 30 min. Two drinks which we did receive. A pizza that never came. No bartender to obtain a bill. Blah,blah,blah. We left a $20 bill and will never return. The end. read more

Recently ate at this restaurant and I was starving. Asked for a bread basket while we waited - sorry, don't have any bread. OOOkkkk. Ordered the fried chicken with mashed and a biscuit. Waited a very long time for the food to arrive. Remember, I was starving! I could not tell you what part of the chicken they served me - a breast, a tender? A leg? Literally no idea. It was a pile of fried batter with a small amount of chicken in no particular shape discernible. They put some gravy type thing on top. Two bites was all i needed to know this was not going to be eaten by me. The mashed were decent, however, cold. My saving grace was the biscuit. I picked it up and it literally fell to pieces. The server was very nice. 2 of us had the meatloaf 1 had the perch.Tthe perch was good, the meatloaf & the vegetables were burnt. The server asked if we wanted boxe. We said no. We have eaten here twice and both times were pleasant. We loved the nachos. Seriously they were amazing and then we came back and ordered again and unfortunately they weren't available that day. Which was deceiving because they are listed on the menu. Our bubble was popped. From now on we will only come on Saturdays, which I guess is the day they serve the nachos. I just went for my birthday with a group of four. I ordered the prime rib and my table mates ordered lobster and steak. My prime rib had a taste I have never encountered before and hopefully will never encounter again. My friends with the lobster and steak were equally disappointed with the size of the lobster. They.. however were able to eat it. Mine was inedible. I did not have to pay for it as I dis not eat it. But irregardless.. I had no birthday dinner. I won't go back. Chef sucks. read more

The food is great BUT the service is slow. You often have to make a reservation to return 45-60 minutes later even when the place is empty. The hotestesses have no idea what they are doing on their computers! We have tired the place 5 times and are giving up! Today we waited 15 before the server even came to take our drink order and another 15 to get a beer. I ordered an unseeetened ice tea and just try to get sugar without asking multiple times.
