We initially contracted Sean and his crew for an extensive remodel on our North Park home, including new siding, windows, bathroom, flooring, interior and exterior painting. Anyone who has done a large remodel project like ours knows that unexpected things come up...delayed materials...something about the home that wasn't know...somebody calls in sick... What makes for a good or bad experience is how well your contractor handles things when something does happen. This is where Sean gave us the confidence we made the right choice using Kanna Construction. For example, about a year after the initial project was completed to our satisfaction, we experienced some water issues in the crawlspace (due to heavy rains) that causd our hardwood subfloor to buckle and lift the new LVP. Kanna Construction did a great job with our small bathroom remodel. We interviewed several contractors, but ultimately chose Kanna. After meeting with Sean, the owner, we were confident his team could finish the project on time. We were on a strict timeline because we had to move out of our unit during the renovations and into a temporary rental. We had no time for delays, excuses or contractors not showing up. Since we hired Kanna about two months before our project was to begin, Sean could accommodate our schedule. He was even willing to work around our flooring contractor, who had to come in after demo of the bathroom, but prior to finishing work. We created the overall design, since we knew exactly what we wanted, but Sean met with us several times to go over our choices, make suggestions, and ensure everything he needed was on our list. He encouraged us to get everything well in advance, due to shipping delays and unforeseen issues. We were happy we followed his suggestion, since our vanity top and some of our tile arrived broken and had to be reordered. Prior to the commencement of the project, Sean came over to check everything we had purchased. Sean dedicated a specific team to our project, which meant the same project manager, Joaquin, and team showed up every day. We've been through larger projects than this one, and contractors not showing up always seems to be an issue. Not with Kanna. They showed up when they said they would show up, and worked efficiently. We encountered a few minor issues here and there, but Sean always made sure they were corrected to our satisfaction. We even added on additional work, the tiled wall behind the vanity, after we had extra tile left over from the shower surround. When the project was complete, Sean stopped by personally to inspect everything and had his team come back to fix small things, to make sure it met his, and our expectations. I interviewed six contractors to remodel two bathrooms. Kanna was responsive and their bid was competitive- not the cheapest but not the most expensive. They started on time (within three weeks or so) and the workers were very courteous and concerned about cleaning up. I had no issues leaving the house and having them continue to work. The one issue I had was not having the project leader asking me the right questions about where to place electrical outlets, fixtures, etc. A fee time the work needed to be redone. As this was my first remodel I didn't know what questions to ask but quickly learned. Once we overcame that, and the communication was better, the project went more smoothly. Our project seemed simple, but ended up a bit tricky. We don't live in SD full time, so a lot of this project was done over a few trips and many face time calls and photo updates. We agreed upon a bathroom remodel that went through a bedroom closet to add a shower. Upon discovering very rusted pipes under the house to add some complications to the job, Kanna offered thorough explanations and videos to show us what issues we had to repair. Sean's wife was not here to witness the way he behaved. She also can't explain away the images I posted. 1. we do not owe a balance. if we did, why would you wait two years to say anything? 2. my husband kicked sean out of the house after a number of egregious issues we had over the course of the 2 month's renovation. We are not poor, but that was your impression of us because of where we live. I paid for everything FULL CASH. You both assume because we are black and live in Southeast we can't afford it. You are lying and you know it. You could have mailed us a bill but YOU chose not to do it. We also were not "desperate" to have anything done. We did it because we had the time and the money to do so. We just wanted to renovate. We were happy with the basement renovation which is why we decided to hire you again to do the kitchen. That was a mistake. Sean may be a family man to you, however, he treated us poorly, walked into our house unannounced on several occasions, and blamed his own employees for his own bad behavior and mistakes. His employee DID get my son sick and for you to write a bold-faced lie is unconscionable. The employee didn't even return because he was sick. Evan told us so. I have records from the hospital. My son wasn't sick with covid and no, your employees didn't always wear masks. And to say that is a lie is ridiculous because Sean apologized for it and offered to pay for our deductible but we declined. He also apologized for his behavior toward me which was indeed sexist and condescending. People don't apologize if they aren't guilty of treating people poorly. I deleted the initial review AFTER our kitchen experience. Sean tells me, "my wife is upset you deleted," as if that was going to change my mind. Then had the audacity to ask me to write another good review. We treated all of Sean's employees well, sometimes going out of our way and buying Evan lunch. Evan even left us his personal phone number. Your employees left other people's garbage in our yard and didn't cover our furniture in plastic until AFTER I complained about it. They also left garbage from the renovation in our backyard after they left. I had to hire another company to haul away the trash. You keep lying about things I have documentation for. I've checked with two other flooring companies and they've all said the floors were installed incorrectly. Yes, we did sign a completion form because my husband wanted him out of the house after he started demanding more money. I never said you didn't complete the job, I said it was poorly done. And since I signed a completion form I couldn't have a balance. You can type all the lies you want but I have photographic documentation that has metadata time stamps to back up everything I have written.
