The atmosphere is a bit more upscale than your average diner--everything was impeccably clean, and the ambiance was very pleasant. My friends both opted for the "All You Can Eat Buffet," which I understand is what this place is famous for (especially on weekends!). Their plates were packed, and the fact that they both went back for seconds speaks for itself--they loved it. I went with the Norway Benedict, and I was honestly blown away. It featured two perfectly poached eggs and smoked salmon on English muffins with a very generous serving of Hollandaise sauce, accompanied by a side of home-fried potatoes. The presentation was beautiful, the taste was excellent, and I truly can't think of a single thing that would have improved the dish. Service Highlights: * Attentive Staff: Our server was great--present when we needed drink refills but never intrusive. * Efficiency: They were quick to clear empty plates rather than letting them sit on the table, which we really appreciated. Not a massive spread but still worth it to check out with some gorgeous country views out the window.

The focus is always on the food, of course. This GC buffet is big; no gripes about not enough choices. And our choices were delicious. Let's start with the veggies: mashed potatoes with hot gravy, broccoli and cauliflower with hot cheese sauce (the only way!), turnip greens, yummy cabbage, baked beans, green beans ... we ate 'em all. The fried chicken was crispy and hot (lots of breasts, our favs), the steaks cooked and sliced in front of us (not especially chewy either), the very agreeable bourbon chicken. And we haven't mentioned the salad bar with lots of fresh lettuce and toppings. The dessert bar also had lots of variety, although nothing other than chocolate everything is necessary for us. We came in last weekend for breakfast before going home. However, before even getting a second plate, the buffet was switching over to lunch. But they tried to tell us that we had to pay for the lunch buffet. We were confused since we had just came in during breakfast, and we thought it was ridiculous to expect customers to pay $60 for one plate of food. It was also ridiculous because no one had said anything before seating us. We explicitly told the hostess we were there for the breakfast buffet. If we weren't going to get more than one plate of food out of breakfast and would have to pay substantially more for when there was nothing else from breakfast, we would've gone somewhere else. However, no one said a thing and there were no signs that explicitly stated it. When the manager came over, we explained the situation. She stated that we had to pay lunch prices. In fact, she tried to tell us that we could've just taken the breakfast items sitting on the carts. EXCUSE ME?! That is so unsanitary and disgusting to expect customers to take food off of a dirty cart. I work in a restaurant as a manager. When we are taking away food, it's the same carts we use to hold dirty dishes. It's not meant to serve food off of. This violates basic health codes, and I will be reporting it. No wonder this place was so empty. They're charging Shady Maples prices with quality of food that wouldn't even compete against Golden Corral's.
