I was disappointed because this place I thought was run by Indians and make the Indian Indian cuisine. There is a northern Moghlai style biryani and Hyderabad style biryani. We ordered Chicken Vindaloo and Butter Chicken takeout and weren't impressed with our dishes. Additionally, the rice wasn't well cooked, a lot of hard pieces. Both dishes were very salty. Chicken Vindaloo: The chicken wasn't dry and the potatoes were cooked through. However, the sauce was just really tomatoey and salty. The food was so salty we couldn't even finish it. Little to no flavor aside from the salt. Had the vindaloo chicken and tikka masala and they weren't spicy at all (ordered medium spice level). Does have boxes and stuff out, but nothing horrible. Second, friendliness, the man that took my order-- super friendly and very helpful. While sitting there all I heard from the customers was how great this place was. Third seeing I didn't eat there I took no pictures of the food. I didn't want to do an injustice to it. The taste and flavor however was awesome. I got mine medium in heat. I tried the Lamb and Goat. The goat still had the bone , so be tentative not to bite to hard. Last, yes, a little pricey. Two dishes or items for around 53$ and I would have liked more than what they gave. Portions were a little lite. Would I get it again though? Oh hell yes!!! I'd rather have this over Chinese food. The food here is absolutely fantastic, and the service is always great. If you're vegan like me, I highly recommend the Baingan Bharta. Amazing! I'd suggest to the owner that they add tofu to their menu, but other than that alone this place is five stars all the way. I always feel so nourished after one of their meals. So, so good. read more

2nd time here and even better than the first, we met another couple and ordered Starters of Vegetable Samosa and Gobi Manchurian. Samosa was good but Gobi was Amazing! Entrees were Shrimp Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tiger Shrimp, and Goat Curry. The Goat melted in your mouth and was the star, and the Tikka Masala was a close second but all were great. The Mango Lassi was great along with their homemade Orange Kulfi for dessert, we will be back! read more

I've never been disappointed with this place. I've eaten in and taken out. Food is always tasty and comes out to the table very hot. The latest time I visited, we did takeout. Everything was packaged perfectly and still hot and delicious even after the 10 min drive home. When this place asks you how spicy you want something prepared, there are different levels. All I can say is if you order extra spicy, be very prepared for *extra* spicy. Phew! I break a sweat when chowing down, but I love it! read more

Food Is a 10-10 except for the waiter kept on refilling my water when it was half full. He said "How is it" about 10 times. Also the bathroom was dirty and the soap felt weird after using it. I got the orange chick garlic nan and Something I can't pronounce. I Recommend coming here. read more

I have been a devoted patron to this establishment it opened. Ordered at least 50 times. Unfortunately, I just picked up my last dinner from here. I was charged $5 for chutney and onions. Five dollars - I asked about the charge and was told "I put a lot of onions in your order". Okay - I just signed and left with my food without fuss even though I've never been charged any amount for this in the past. I then come home and find no onions. I call back and was offered a $1 refund next time I come in. There will be no next time. Unfortunately management has changed several times and they must be struggling to have the audacity to charge for what is essentially Indian salt, pepper and ketchup. And for the record, I am Indian and the 2 stars is for the food. Zero stars for management and nickel and diming its patrons. read more

Update: Please ask about their rice since so many people have told me about cow milk being in it. Not sure if they have addressed it. No one would even think to ask about that. Who puts milk in rice? === This new place was formerly East Wok, right beside Walmart in the same shopping center as Thaiwat. They have completely redone the interior, so the inside is now a real restaurant rather than a takeout place, though they do a TON of takeout. There is more vegan on the menu than the two other Indian places in town, hurray! I am surprised that they are so close to Laxmi's, but I think Berks County can support a few Indian restaurants. They are open daily with a lunch buffet. The large vegetarian menu is about one-third vegan, including some new dishes we had not seen before, like spinach and potatoes. Very friendly service. Not too many vegan appetizers, so I wish they would mark them and add more. We had the fried cauliflower, and it was delicious. We will get the grilled mushrooms next time. Since the pakoras are not vegan here, how are they made vegan at Laxmi's, hmmm? For some reason, I liked that the papadum were in little circles like chips, which is easier to eat. The green mint sauce here is made without yogurt, the owner said. This is the second or third location. Make sure to grab a menu for the coupons inside. read more

I stopped in here for the lunch buffet and I was very pleased. Great selection and it was regularly refilled while we were here. The steam table is appreciated. It definitely keeps the stuff hotter than Laxmi's setup. They bring the naan out in a basket to each table which is a better way than having that sit on the buffet. I am a little surprised that none of the other reviews mention saltiness though. We were here a few weeks ago for dinner and the pakoras were so salty they were almost unenjoyable. You could see the salt on them, so it was like they threw that on after cooking. One or two of the things I tried today was a bit salty too. Will definitely return. We tried chili chicken and grilled mushrooms (good, but only one I wouldn't get again) appetizers, lamb chops, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, shahi paneer, and lastly lots of orange kulfi for dessert. We didn't realize one order of the kulfi comes with several slices on a plate. Invited to go with friends on Saturday evening. We had reservations and were seated right away. It was my first time to an Indian restaurant and I ordered garlic naan and lamb roganjosh. It was amazing! Lamb melted in my mouth. You can order mild, medium or spicy. I selected medium and it was perfection. Husband was very happy with tandoori mixed platter. Waitstaff was very helpful and friendly. They were very accomodating and substituted more shrimp to replace salmon on his dish. Our hosts ordered chicken tikka masala and lamb curry. It turns out that Nirvana is one of the best Indian restaurants in this part of the state, easily comparable to big-city north Indian food. The laasis are also fantastic and, surprisingly, many restaurants really mess them up, especially mango. The buffet is excellent... a real bargain, too, considering the quality. This has been my go to Indian restaurant for a couple years. It was way better than the alternatives. Now, the tikka masala sauce is not consistent. One day it is oily and thin... the next order it is creamy and perfect. The rice has been hit or miss. The rice I got tonight was not thoroughly cooked. When done right, it is great.
