6/15/22 - Appointment at Kaplansky Foot & Ankle on Olentangy. Nurse was great, receptionist kind, and Dr. Kaplansky was excellent. Paid co-pay during time of visit in FULL. 6/28/22 - Called in and paid in FULL for custom orthotics. Informed 3-4-week lead time and staff confirmed I would be contacted when orthotics arrived at the office. 7/12/22 - Received statement in mail that $40 co-pay was due. Emailed my paid in fill receipt as proof it had been paid. 8/2/22 - I called the office to confirm if my orthotics had arrived and the receptionist said the office had not received and would call me in a couple weeks. 8/17/22 - 8 WEEKS since placing order on custom orthotics. Called second time to see if custom orthotics had arrived. I was moving 3 hours north of Columbus on 8/26 and I was concerned I would be moved prior to the orthotics arriving. I was told by the receptionist that they had not been ordered. I asked for a refund, then Dr. Kaplansky spoke to me. He apologized and said he could offer a refund or place the order. He told me it would be a 2-week lead time. He said that he could have them shipped to my new address then I could trim them myself. Since I spent $475 out of pocket and didn't want to mess them up trying to trim the orthotics myself, I asked for an appointment with him on 9/9. 8/31/22 - Receptionist called and left a voicemail informing they had received my orthotics. 9/6/22 - I called and asked if it would be possible for me to pick up my orthotics earlier than Friday, 9/9. The receptionist said she could get me in at 11 a.m. on 9/7 and that they could check the fitting quickly with me. 9/7/22 - I drove 3 hours to Columbus and arrived at my appointment at 11 A.M. sharp. The receptionist greeted me. At 11:15, I had to return to my car for a Teams meeting since the basement office does not have reception. Since the receptionist was on the phone when I had to leave, I called the office and spoke with her when I got to the parking lot and told the receptionist that I had to come back to my car for a Teams Meeting. I reminded her that she told me the day prior that I would be in quickly, but that did not happen. She apologized and said she understood and that I could come back anytime today (Wednesday, 9/7) and that they would get me in quickly. She was very sincere and understanding. Before noon I receive a call from someone filling in at the Olentangy location. She informs me that they are too busy today, that she only fits the orthotics on Thursdays and that I would need to come back tomorrow. I told her that I needed to pick up the orthotics today as I live 3 hours away and drove to Columbus for this appointment today. Unlike the kind receptionist, this woman was rude, insincere, and told me that staff would be taking lunch at noon and meeting with a rep, and that I would have to arrive prior to noon to pick up the orthotics- not for her to check and make sure they fit. I told her that I would appreciate it if she would make an exception considering I drove 3 hours to Columbus for this appointment. I arrive at 11:50 and the waiting room is completely full. Her telling me on the phone that staff was going to take lunch at noon with a full waiting room, is insane. 1) From my perspective today, the receptionist who kept her cool the entire time seems very overwhelmed. She was the only one answering the phones and checking patients in/out. Why is there no one else helping her out? If I were in her position, I would have walked out. With a personality and patience like hers, she would have no problem finding a great job. 2) Completely chaotic and disorganized. From paying a copay, then being sent a statement that I still owe a copay, to telling me the orthotics were on order, then finding out weeks later the order was never placed, then completely botching the entire process, I regret not taking the refund. 3) Dr. Kaplansky seems like a nice doctor, and I hate for his staff to ruin the reputation of his business. 4) The custom orthotics I picked up today will need trimmed. I refuse to go back to Kaplansky Foot and Ankle and plan to find a podiatrist near my new home to trim the orthotics for me. 5) Patients first. I've worked at Wexner OSUMC and Nationwide Children's. I own a business and work with several reps. I know how this process should work. read more

Not thrilled with the staff. A bit clueless. The doc is nice and did properly DX my foot problem. If you push and are firm, you will get decent service. I was also hit with the x-ray ploy from the "nurse." I told her no way -- not needed for my issue. She begrudgingly backed off, tattled to the doc, who actually agreed with me. So stand your ground if you know anything is unnecessary. And I would expand this advice to any health professional you visit! Don't be taken advantage of. These guys are not geniuses. I also don't like the musky basement location. This is my second less than stellar podiatry visit in the Columbus area. And they wonder why their specialty is treated as second class. This podiatry experience was the most unprofessional and inadequate podiatry experience ever! Now I see why George Costanza from Seinfeld was accepted to podiatry school. I failed to read the first two reviews (one star each) and wasted several hours I won't get back. To begin with, Madison is excellent as the receptionist. Other than that, I wouldn't even give one star. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment with all of the papers filled out. I waited for exactly 29 minutes and 56 seconds. I was walking out at precisely thirty minutes. The tech insisted on x-rays, as my now relocated podiatrist did in 2010. From there, ZERO! If you want a nail trimming, this will work with Kaplansky. I went there because I lost the podiatrist, who was fabulous. Same results as the first two reviewers. X-rays, nail trimming and then on and on about insurances. I do need new orthotics. However, he did not even measure my feet. He wanted me to go to Easton Shoes on Bethel Road. Then he tried selling me on diabetic shoes from a catalog. I would rank this practice as bogus and an insult to the unsuspecting public. I left this place regretting even scheduling it. This is by far the worse "doctor" experience in my life. I came home, I had forgotten my phone , and received a call from the VA about another issue. As a veteran, I can and will go to the VA off James Road off of I-670 near the airport. I just signed up in January, and the VA experience has been fantastic. It will cost little to nothing for orthotics & diabetic shoes. The care could not be worse than what happened at Kapansky's. I had two injuries back to back and the team at the Kaplansky office was wonderful, efficient, and kind. Very quick service and was always able to get me in very quickly. I had come back from an international trip with a broken foot and they were able to get me in the next day! I can't recommend Kaplansky enough! read more

Kaplansky Foot and Ankle has exceeded all of my expectations and then some. I have suffered from bunions, tailor bunions and hammertoes my entire life and the pain was intense. After TWO failed bunion surgeries on my left foot (osteotomies) with a different podiatrist, I felt defeated, angry and like all hope was lost. After months of researching about the new 'lapiplasty' procedure being done in Columbus, I went to Dr. Kaplansky to inquire about fixing my right foot, which I never had surgery on before. He had confidence he could fix my foot problems with lapiplasty and he did just that. I was walking without crutches at 2 weeks post op and my pain is completely gone! He will be doing another lapiplasty (third revision) to my left foot later this month and I cannot wait to have 'normal feet' without the constant pain I've dealt with for so long. Went for 2 visits to Dr Kaplansky's office. After x-rays and very little interaction or explaination from the doctor (younger), I was sent away with just a sheet of stretching exercises. On the second visit I was greeted by the same doctor like he had never seen me before. I had to re-explain why I was there and what was done by him on last visit. So he proceeded to bluntly tell me I had to order insoles and to read some article he had written in some medical magazine. Jeeze I wonder how much he charged my insurance company for this poor service. I will not be retuning to him and by the way my new doctor in ONE visit discovered my problem and explained to me what I needed to know and has me on the road to recovery. read more

I saw Dr Randall Contento he took ex rays and determined I had a hair line fracture.I previously saw Dr Contento at another practice.I will be back on my treadmill in two weeks-my foot is getting better.The doctor took the time to explain what the problem was and his staff was super. read more

Certainly wouldn't recommend. And I won't be going back. I went in with hopes of having something done about my legs being uneven as it causes me a lot of pain. I asked my doctor to send me to the hanger clinic not sure how I ended up at this place. The doctors bedside mannerisms were odd, everything felt like he was reciting things from memory. He didn't even ask why I was being seen them he told me that insurance wouldn't cover anything. He made me a heel lift out of a cotton bad, it was a laughing matter to say the least. read more

I have never experienced such bad treatment. I was referred to Kaplansky for sever foot pain. First the nurse couldn't find me in the system. Then the old receptionist lady was rude to me. The nurse who took my X-rays didn't know anything about my injury and didn't care to ask. She had me stand on my injured foot to take X-rays. Then they didn't come out so she had me take more X-rays but this time didn't bother to put the lead vest on me saying "it's too heavy. You'll be fine". The nurse then proceeded to tell me to put my shoes on and get ready to go. The doctor had not seen me yet. She then came in to get a dirty bowl to do a cast on another persons foot and left plaster crumbs all over me and the floor. From another room I heard her remind another nurse to "remove the leg skin from the foot skin". I didn't think it could get any more unprofessional. But it did. The doctor finally came in to examine me but refused to touch my injured foot saying " I wouldn't want you to kick me in the face". His phone was going off as he was in the room with me (he told me he couldn't even examine my foot till we got an mri...) instead of turning off his phone he said "one moment" and proceeded to check his Facebook on his phone right in front of me. He told me to take ibuprofen and to quit my job. I told my GP never to refer anyone else there. It was ridiculous. read more

I originally went to Kaplanky because of pain in one foot and pain in the other ankle. I went for about 4 visits in total over about 6 weeks and each time I had to explain who I was, what they had done and why I was there to the staff and doctor. Ultimately he sent me away with a recommendation for their inserts ($150) and advice to triple the amount of advil I have been taking. Have since decided to wait until my annual physical to speak to my regular doctor about options. Honestly felt it I was just another bill to submit to insurance - had at least 2 appointments where I was seen for less than 60 seconds by the doctor. Would NOT recommend to a friend. read more

While Dr Kaplansky was very nice, I can not recommend him to anyone. I had a simple plantars wart that needed removed. Dr Kaplansky did 3 acid treatments, the last of which created a HUGE blister that appeared infected & left me unable to bear weight on my foot. When I called the office to explain the problem, his aide/nurse told me it was "normal" & would go away. The blister eventually did but the wart didn't. In fact, the acid treatments caused MORE warts to develop around the initial one and a HUGE callous replaced the blister. The pain was unbearable so I requested that my endocrinologist send me to a new podiatrist. When I explained what happened with Dr Kaplansky's office, my endocrinologist removed Dr Kaplansky entirely from his referral list. The next podiatrist couldn't figure out how to help me so it was on to my third, the head of podiatry at OSU. He recommended surgery, which left me on a walker and off work for months. After the healing process, the warts & callous created by Dr Kaplansky's treatment came back & no one knows how to fix it. I live with the pain every day & it's horrible. I wouldn't send my biggest enemy to Dr Kaplansky. No one deserves this. read more

I went to this particular doctors office because my husband had been there a couple of times. The last time he saw the female doctor and really liked her and the treatment he recd. My visit turned out to be with the younger male doctor who has the beside manner of a total jerk. I went in for orthotics to get help to relieve back and hip pain so I could walk for exercise. Yes I am over weight and diabetic and I know it. That is why i wanted to be able to walk more. He basically did not listen to me when I tried to explain why I wanted orthotics. Basically told me I was fat and give me a diabetic print out. I had to ask again for the orthotics and told him the diabetes DX must be on my claim for the insurance to pay. The old lady at the desk kept telling me I have to pay in advance and I was like I have an HSA account that will pay for this before they are even ready, Well they left the diabetic DX off the claim so it was rejected and after waiting 4 weeks for them to rebill correctly I finally paid the ransom they were holding my orthotics for so that I could start using them. Again they kept telling me they were rebilling. I finally contacted the billing company myself - asked for a copy of the corrected claim and faxed it directly to my carrier myself - and guess what - it go paid. Once it was paid I waited 2 weeks and contacted Pam the office manager about my refund. This was June 16 and she told me she would issue a check on June 18 to me. I watched the mail daily for this refund check and finally called her back again on July 6 only to be told she was on vacation and would be back on Monday July 13. I called her at 8:05 on July 13 to ask about the status of my refund check. She tried to use the I have been on vacation excuse and I was like since June 16 and she was like no last week. So I said then were was the check you promised me you would send out on June 18? She said she would work on it. I said if I do not have it by the end of the week I will be reporting you to every agency I can find. I got refund check in the mail that Fri. Needless to say I will not be returning and neither will my husband. The medical staff and office staff both are totally unprofessional.
