This was a truly shocking experience. I took in my Mercedes GL450 for a minor oil leak and got a quote 45 minutes later for over $8k. Initially I didn't question anything, but as I discussed why so many things needed replacement or repair, one of the things he said needed replacement was my motor mounts. Still not questioning things, I just expressed exasperation because they had just been replaced 14 months earlier. Suddenly, I could tell he felt uncomfortable and he started really over explaining and telling me he'd show me how "stripped they were." It was this reaction that just tipped me off that something was wrong. I ended up taking the car into two other places just to ask for second opinions on all the recommended work. They were laughing at how ridiculous the proposed work was from Kapp's. One place showed me how it would have been impossible for him to have assessed the need for new motor mounts without removing some covers that isn't a quick thing. Sad. Total dishonesty. I ended up getting the leak fixed for about $800. read more

Pretty disappointed with my experience here. Towed my car in because it wasn't starting. My car ended up not having anything wrong with it, it's just old and had a hard time starting in the cold weather. However, my car went in with 1/2 a tank of gas and a working sound system, and was returned to me with an empty tank no gas and my sound system no longer works. Also beware they charge a $70 diagnostic fee regardless if something is wrong with the car or not. read more

Bought my '03 Z4 with 150,000 miles, seller said she changed oil every 2,000 miles. Found out this was because it burned a quart every 2,000 miles. Kapp found lower oil filter gasket and hose was bad. They replaced it, but still burned oil. I recently took it in for another problem. They discovered the oil filter gasket was bad again, replaced for free. NO MORE OIL LOSS. Now I love my Z4 and Kapp's. read more

This review is about what happens when repairs go wrong, and more importantly the steps an owner takes to fix it. I had the clutch go out on my 2010 volkswagen golf. Kapps had done minor maintenance before quite skillfully, and the clutch seemed to go off without a hitch. This was good timing as friends were flying in from San Diego for a roadtrip of the Arizona strip and national parks nearby. To make a long story short we get down to cortez area when the gears start giving out. This had been less a week since the clutch was replaced. Of course I was frantic on wtf to do. Rental car to finish the trip, how to get the car back to Kapps (3k towed....how about fix local instead!), and preparing to fight over the service completed. Funny enough Yelp turned up a mechanic in Cortez that had saved others on road trips. Coordinated with them, dropped off the car and secured a sweet roadtrip road. Girl at the enterprise hooked it up after hearing our story. :). At this point anyone in this situation is immediately going to blame the mechanic who fixed it around a week before. I mean makes sense right? Usually, that situation is going to devolve into he said she said and you end up finding a new mechanic while probably getting fucked on the bill. I left a voicemail for Sam as it was after hours at this point and told him where the car was being towed locally. We continued the roadtrip, putting the damnable vehicle out of mind, and enjoyed Mesa Verde. I connected with Sam that afternoon ready for the worst. To my utter astonishment he had authorized payment for all repairs at the other place already, told me he would cover the rental car and settle up when I was back. I visit him upon returning and tell him the shifting is off after being fixed at the other place. He explains issues with bleeding it right and offers to look at it, also to make sure everything else is back to status quo. Additionally, he writes a check for the rental car and gas difference. Honestly, I'm shocked this level of integrity exists now. Finding a shop that cares about not only their customer but backing up the quality of their work is rare. If you're in Orem area and want a mechanic you can trust with fair prices, this is the place to go. read more

I needed to get some work done on my AC system, they diagnosed it and started on it. A few hours later they called me and told me that it wasn't what they thought it was, and that it would actually be cheaper than originally quoted me. [update] Sam called me a day or two after my review and gave me a refund on my inspection to put towards the battery. Thank you Sam. [/update] Had them do a Pre-purchase inspection. Specifically asked them to test the battery since it was low. They said it was okay, but it died a week later - despite doing everything I could to nurse it along. When I replaced the battery I found it wasn't even tied down. They should have said something about that - it's a safety issue. They also missed some obvious things like clear-coat runs indicating body work. They reported some of the codes in the ECU, but not all. I ran them myself as soon as I could get to the right equipment. They did find an obvious item or two that my buddy found in 2 minutes on a lift. Also, they called the dealer I was working with before I could get back (Hardman Auto) to report everything they found. I wouldn't call that dishonest, but it wasn't in _my_ best interest. I paid $90 for the inspection so they show the dealer all my cards. Overall, I think they're an average shop. I talked nicely with the owner Sam to see if he would do anything like offer me a good deal on a new battery and he wouldn't budge. I don't think I would worry about them _trying_ to rip you off, but I didn't think they provided a high quality service and their customer service wasn't good. I had an awesome experience here. They are super nice and very knowledgeable. I like to work on my own cars but when I get stumped on something I take it to a dealership to get a diagnostic done. Well this last time i went to the dealership, they had told me the issue I was having would cost 6,000. From what I had read online it was either a very simple fix, or it was nothing to worry about, so obviously I was skeptical. I take it in to Kapp's and they told me this was a common thing with the BMW 3 series and I shouldn't put any more time into it. It was a normal thing that they all do (bumps forward a little when I come to a stop). I was in and out in 20 minutes and they even charged me less than I was quoted over the phone because they worked quicker than they thought they would. They just strike me as honest people over here. Sam is awesome to work with. He has done all of the major services or repairs on my Audi A6. They always seem to be able to get me in on short notice and complete the work on time or ahead of schedule. I have had no issues with any of the repairs or maintenance services they have provided. True story: They replaced my brakes with some after market brakes that were supposed to be awesome. However, after a week or so the brakes started to squeal. I called Sam and told him the problem. His response was, "bring the car in immediately and we'll swap out the brakes for OEM brakes. We can't have you driving your Audi with squeaky brakes." I took the car in, they swapped out the brakes the same day and didn't charge me a dime. Awesome customer service. I recently was in the market to purchase another Audi and before doing so had Sam check it out to see if there were any major problems. In 5 minutes he was able to let me know that the previous owner hadn't run synthetic oil and that a gasket was leaking. He saved me from buying a "problem" car. Oh, and he didn't charge me anything for it. These guys know European cars and treat their clients very well. They are much cheaper than the dealership and an absolute pleasure to do business with. The Meh: Didn't respond promptly to a scheduling request on the web page. Called after two hours with a estimate after dropping the vehicle off. The bad: Nothing so far. This place is really trustworthy and professional. Yes, I got my Mercedes fixed fast and well with very reasonable price, but what impressed me most about this place is their attitude towards fixing cars. The owner Sam said that he does not want to replace a part unless he is sure that the part has its problem. With that said, they tested the pipes and electronic connections first for my car and they obviously have the highest professional skills to figure out what was really going wrong.
