While my boyfriend and I were in Petaluma, I told him I wanted to stop by this tiki bar and let me just say I was impressed. It's right in downtown Petaluma. Easy to find parking. As for the drinks, they were strong but good. The food was also good and had quite a selection of choices for a tiki bar restaurant. I would definitely be coming back here again.

Top marks for tiki bar vibes. We came on a Saturday for reggae night and there was a DJ and a dog machine. The tables were pretty full but you could find seating. My tiki bar cocktail (Missionary's Downfall) contained chunks of pineapple and was nicely balanced between sweet and strong. The piña colada was tasty (we got shaken instead of iced). Very creamy.

Enjoyed the ambience and service. Really wished this place could have lasted but the location was off the beaten path which was a Pro for me but a Con for business.

Came here for a Tiki dinner last week because I LOVE themed restaurants! This is tiki theme with hints of Hawaiian/Chinese/Polynesia and maybe a little Indiana Jones with all the skulls in the walls. You are transported to an island somewhere else! I came here for the Tiki food of course..the lumpias, garlic chicken, adobo fried rice and house salad. It was a lot of food for two and ended up eating it for dinner the next night as well. Food was good given that it's a bar. Lots of flavors, loved the dipping sauces and their special "peppa water" spice sauce on the table. The only thing I would change was how oily the food was, it was gleaming and soaking! For someone who doesn't drink, they have also serve mocktails and $5 from each mocktail will be donated to No Kid Hungry. Love it! I think whether you just wanna do the bar or have dinner, this is a fun, unique place to grab a bite or drink!

Bartender was so friendly! He was able to tell us all about the area and recommend us to different great places! The drinks were amazing and super fun! Ambiance is super cool and very tropical!

The interior of this spot is so beautiful and decorated so nicely, it definitely makes you forget where you are! The staff was really polite and the food was delicious. We tried the banana split and the chicken dish we had were delicious!

Solid drinks and interior was fully committed to the tiki theme. They only serve food on Friday and Saturday, which is a shame because some nachos or fries would have been absolutely destroyed after a few drinks.

What a delightfully different vibe in the middle of Petaluma! The vibe of Kapu targets 20-30 somethings with colorful flashing lights across its walls and ceilings, and half a dozen machine games to the left when you walk in. The Maitre'd was polite but not particularly friendly or inviting. She seemed a bit overwhelmed. For all its dim coziness, the vibe is busy and engaging. On a Friday night with no reservations. I took a seat at the bar. Ordered a Presidente drink and chicken garlic pupu. The drink was excellent with a wonderful twist of tangerine. Service was slightly confusing in that the bartender forgot what I ordered and it had to be repeated. The garlic chicken pupu was overdone, and the meat was dry, but the seasoning was very tasty. A good combo all in all. About 4-5 men in Hawaiian shirts walked around scanning--perhaps verifying--the order activities, which seemed to be a method of overcompensating for previous issues, but that's just a guess! All in all, it was an interesting and positive experience. Park on street or in next door parking structure.

When I first walked in, it brought me back to Hawaii. Great tiki bar vibes. When I saw the cocktail menu, I was super excited to try one of their tropical drinks because I love rum. I got the Pearl Driver, and it was decent. I thought I was going to be able to taste more of the orange and gardenia mix, but instead I got a lot of rum. Beware, their drinks are strong! As for the food, overall it was just okay. The potato and Mac salad was great. I liked how it had eggs in it. We tried their special- the kalua pork fries. The pork was sweet and tasty, and the combination with the cheese made it even better. We wanted some veggies so we ordered the tofu salad. Didn't really care for it because the tofu was bland and I didn't like the dressing. It was too sweet and citrusy to me. Their best dish was the garlic chicken. We got it spicy, and I didn't think it was that spicy at all. It was crispy, and well seasoned. Dipped it in their sauce to cool it off. The adobo fried rice was decent, just thought it could be more flavorful, and the tomatoes on top kind of threw me off. I've had really good Hawaiin/ Filipino food, so I had really high hopes for this place. I like the vibe most of all and would come back maybe for happy hour or with a group. The food is just okay, but I would be down to try a different drink next time.

What an absolute gem of a tiki bar in Petaluma! If you're looking for a fun bar with great music over the weekend, look no further. The interior is decorated beautifully, it's like being transported into a different world. The cocktails are tropical and fruity, and the overall vibe of the place was nonstop fun from 9 pm when we got there to 11 pm when we left. The cocktails aren't the strongest but still definitely worth a visit.

Start your Today life, on a today vacation! I had been anxious to try Kapu since before they opened. I like atmosphere, and to be honest, I like Tiki, so this looked right up my alley! I didn't want to rush in opening weekend, and give them some time to get established, and get the "machine" up and running smooth. That said, with all the opening buzz, booking a reservation for four, at 8:45pm on a Thursday took almost two weeks. We wanted to enjoy this experience with friends and not have to risk waiting outside to wait to get in (or maybe not). As soon as we opened the door, we knew we were in for a treat! The atmosphere is immediately different, and the smell from the kitchen greeted us almost instantly! We were swiftly shown to our booth - which was like a small thatched hut. It was very cozy - but still felt like part of larger bar area. Cocktails are pricey - at $14-16 each - but the are premium cocktails, with blends of premium liquors and unusual ingredients. They also offer a few "slushy" type cocktails as well - which are a little less expensive and equally unusual. The food menu was a little smaller than I expected, which I expect they will end up expanding, but it still presented a nice range of items to choose from. We had Poke Nachos, Fried Chicken, Fried Rice, and a couple of other items from the PuPu (small plate) menu. Food came out promptly and was generally well prepared. Service was active and friendly, without being invasive -so they scored points there too. I'm sure it would be easy for one or two people to drop in, particularly later on weeknights, but I expect they are probably very busy on the weekends - the allure of their exotic cocktails and atmosphere are sure to make this a very popular addition to Petaluma's vibrant and developing nightlife! If you want to try Kapu on a weekend, I would strongly recommend planning ahead and contacting one of their "travel agents" to help you plan you trip. We ended up really enjoying our "Today Vacation" at Kapu Bar!

I have come to the Kapu Bar with my significant other, and twice since then. The following two attenpts were unsuccessful because I had my 13 year old with me and it was 8:40 pm on a Sunday.. They don''t allow minors after 8:30 pm apparently. This evening we went at 5:30 and they didn't have tables for 5 people, and I didn't have a reservation. I mentioned to the hostess that it is impossible to make reservations because no one answers the phone, and they aren't on Open Table nor do they allow reservations to be made on their website. She said that they are on Open Table now. From the single time that I was able to go there, the salad and lechon was delicious. The service was good. I may or may not go back because of the difficulties I have had.

Is this a good place for seniors to mingle? What is the average age range of customers?

Yes! We are seniors and felt 100 % comfortable here! There is a wonderful age range including children playing the pinball machines.

Do they have a full bar?

Yes, it is a full bar specializing in Tiki Style cocktails.

    Are kids allowed?

When I made my reservations it stated on the Open Table reservation "Please be advised we do not allow anyone under the age of 21 after 8pm." So there is a cut off time.

Service - the gal behind oysters bar was very skilled, very informative, and kept the food comin'. She created I wish I could call her out by name but it wasn't on the receipt that was texted to me. Food - on a scale of 1 to 10 it was an 11! * Lemonade was had good lemon taste and just the right acid/sugar balance. I learned that a batch is made each day, and occasionally two. The best I've had anywhere in Sonoma County or Marin County! * I order the first three items on the oyster list (this time two of each) and came up with a new favorite. Then I added four more to the favorite. At 81 I don't do well on short term memory! I love that what was done so right was the lemon and the mignonette (sp?) sauce that was exactly balanced. The last restaurant in Ptown and two absolutely terrible with a red and a white. * Next I ordered a Shrimp Cocktail. They screamed fresh, perfectly boiled that let the shrimp flavor out, and again the red sauce was perfectly balanced between flavor and heat. Had to made in house. And they just nicely crisply cool, not in a cold place that overwhelms the flavor. I don't think I've every had one this good! * Next was a pair of fried oysters. I was prepared for some oily, bready things that would ruin all of the above. BUT NO, the perfect balance was incredible!! * Last was the clam chowder. I'm soooo fussy about this after growing up in the NorthEast (Connecticut) and 4 years of college in Maine blew this one away. It lacked the perfection and freshness of my East Coast standard. But I finished with the last of lemonade and all was well. My standard has never been "perfect." I don't meet that standard, so the chef shouldn't have to either. Hey, maybe he's never been in Maine! P.S. there's not section for this, because the above doesn't happen without OWNERS that create processes and hire people that and buy the best incredients. Kudos, gals!!

We got an additional dozen because they were so tasty. Raw oysters - Well shucked. Very minimal shell pieces if at all. Fresh clean tasting. The varieties we had were called Sweet Jesus and Kuushi. Mignonette was delicious, light & tangy but not overpowering. Baked oysters - my sis ordered one Rockefeller and one Miso. The Rockefeller was "ok" but the Miso was "absolutely divine". Braised short ribs - absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes underneath was creamy and had a distinct cheesy taste. The meat was tender and flavorful. The greens brightened up an otherwise heavy dish. Linguine di Mare - very tasty. Pasta was well cooked and seafood was fresh and not overcooked. The accompanying toast (from local bakery/cafe Della Fattoria) was crispy and chewy and sopped up the cream sauce well. And that cream sauce. Absolutely amazing. Wish I had more of the toast to get all of that delicious sauce. Service - we did not have reservations but were seated quickly upon arrival. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Shout out to Wade and Scott. 10/10 would recommend, would come again. Delicious fresh food, great service.

There was the host who seated us and one waiter working the front of the house. They did, however , offer beef Wellington which was not on the menu. We waited 15-20 minutes for the waiter to take our order. we had not been asked about beverages or starters either. In a word, the service was very slow. that being said, our waiter was congenial. And all the food we ordered was delicious. we ordered the house fried potatoes for a starter. They were delicious but the serving was pretty small. What seemed odd to us was that the potatoes that were served as a side with the hamburgers were not the same as what was served as the starter. The starter was clearly made from fresh cut porates and were well seasoned. the potatoes with the entree seemed like run of the mill food service fries. The beet salad and entrees were also very tasty. however, we asked for the mustard aioli on the side with the hamburgers but that's not what we got. For dessert we ordered the milk chocolate mousse and the crème boule. They were okay but nothing extraordinary . The bar and the dining room area appeared very modern and clean. Started our meal with the Gochujang glazed cauliflower wings and they were phenomenal! Beneath the deliciously flavored glaze was a crunchy fried cauliflower that maintained its veggie tenderness! The allium dip was a bonus because it elevated the flavor to another dimension. This was definitely one of our favorite items of the night! The Parker rolls were served with a homemade butter and they were light and airy which made them pair nicely with the fresh golden beet salad. They served a very generous portion of lettuce and added all kinds of goodies in it- the burrata, pumpkin seeds , homemade french bread croutons , tomatoe and beets lightly coated with the balsamic dressing - yum! Moving onto the main entrees: the Lamb Rigatoni was served with al dente pasta in a light lemony cream sauce that combined shredded lamb shank with green peas. Was quite tasty and it was a nice change of pace from eating pasta with beef bolognese . The other entree was the Beef Wellington and it was rich ; the filet was cooked perfectly! We enjoyed every bite of this superb dish. Our meal ended with the chocolate mousse and the panna cotta which were equally delicious! Overall , we had a spectacular meal and can't wait to go back and try the bijou burger and other menu items.

Salad was good, nice mix of greens. A little wet for my taste if I'm choosing but I'm also not complaining, it was yummy. The potatoes were a perfect dish to come with the salad since otherwise it didn't have a crunch element. This is the first time I've gotten the collar and it was as meaty as it is. I've ordered at other restaurants before and it was not as successful of a dish as here. Loved the sauce and flavors on it. It was kinda sticky due to the sauce but I mean that in a good way, to add to the flavor and overall balance of texture and flavor The snapper lettuce wraps were also yummy! Kind of laborious to get the fish to eat ready but worth the effort, same with the collar too, but also worth the "work" to get the meat off the bones. The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.
