We had a very enjoyable dinner. The ceviche was terrific which we shared and the coconut shrimp was about the best that I've had. 4 huge pieces of shrimp with asparagus and curry lentil beans made this a perfect blend. We gave Karen's Place 4 tries before writing this review. Being a local I had heard good things about Karen's. I am sorry to say that we were never impressed by the food or the service. The location and view is incredible but we were disappointed every time we came to Karen's with the food quality (and temperature this last time for breakfast-Luke warm) We will not be returning, sorry to say. We were really hoping this would be a good place to return to but no. With so many other places that have good service and food close we will be going elsewhere. read more

The service and food were fantastic. I had the fish tacos which were great, my wife got the Margarita Shrimp which was fantastic! They have a popular 2 for 1 happy hour and you can sit in the sand or on one of the deck levels under a roof. We will be coming again! read more

Overly priced and geared toward people from out of town with lots of money and little taste. While eating here, I actually saw someone use a fork and knife go eat their tacos. I had to do a double take. That is definitely not how a taco is meant to be eaten. Not sure how this place has so many good reviews. Maybe its just not my scene. Karen's Place has been around for 18+ years, but we didn't try it until our most recent trip, which means we've been missing out! Karen's is a hidden gem that sits right on the beach with beautiful views of the bay in Bucerias. It's definitely classy and elegant but has a casual beach feel as well. The night we were there, we walked up to hear an amazing trio of live music, which added to the visual ambiance even more. We chanced going without a reservation for dinner and were lucky enough to score an amazing table immediately -- and to get seated by Karen herself. Our server, Juan, was friendly and knowledgeable, as was the rest of the staff that we encountered. Our party of three ordered the following: -2 margaritas, 3 tequilas, a glass of Sauv Blanc (worth noting that they have a fabulous drink, which isn't always the case in the area) -Ceviche -Mushroom Cap aka "Champiñones Karens" -Tortilla Soup aka "Esperanzas Sopa de tortilla" (We would have ordered the frut de mar app, but they were out of atun on the night we were there) -Pesto pasta with shrimp aka "Pasta Pesto Negro con camarón" -Salmon pasta -Salmon The pastas were the winners here! I was super full but managed to finish my bowl of the pesto pasta and shrimp, only sharing a few bites with my husband and cousin along the way... and we entertained the idea of dessert but ended up passing as we were so full. We will have to save room next time. The niños stayed home for this one, but I would totally bring them next time... I saw plenty of other parties with kids that were enjoying themselves, and I noticed several options on the menu that would appeal to my (sometimes picky eating) kids. Lovely little beachside find. Servers spike fantastic English and are very good at their jobs. Nobody rushing you out the door to seat another table it is about having an experience. Had the recommended coconut shrimp and couldn't believe how big they were and they were tasty. Most plates went back with food still on them but only because Karen's doesn't want to send you home hungry! My husband is picky and doesn't like seafood so he felt their were not many options for him. He had spaghetti and meatballs which tasted like the sauce came from a can. My phone service was spotty here so I could not get an actual check-in, buy I had to a review in. We were in Bucerais for a week and stayed across the street from Karens. In our 7 day trip to Bucerías we went to Karen's all 7 days for either food or drinks. This place has the best happy hour from 3pm-5pm. It's 2 for ones and the drinks are strong. I had the margarita, the cucumber margarita and their red sangria, all were amazing and super strong. We also had breakfast one morning I indulged in the chicken enchiladas hands-down were the best I had while visiting. My husband had the Mexican beef eggs Benedict, our friend had the eggs Benedict and our other friend I don't know the name of their food but it was amazing as well. We laid on the beach in front of Karen's and they brought us food or drinks and we make our way back to the bar during happy hour. We absolutely love this location and bar. read more

We showed up without a reservation, I would make one because they are busy, and they were able to accommodate us after a wait in which we enjoyed margaritas at the bar. The we ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, full meals, desert and after dinner drinks. Our bill was under $100.00. I'm going to average our three stops here. The first meal was when we arrived. We all had great meals the first time. We came back the next day and it was good but not like the first night. We came back today it was horrible. We had sangria, ceviche, enchiladas, fish sandwich, and chicken nuggets. Nothing was good except the sangria. We waited forever for the chicken and had to get our waiter a few times as he left us sitting forever. We will not be back on this trip. We have had way better food. I had read the reviews so we had to try this place. The reviews were accurate. It's an excellent location on the beach. We had breakfast. I had the Karen's Benedictine and my wife had the Huevos Rancheros and both were delicious. The portions were not large but ample. I had a latte and my wife had the Americano and both were excellent. We will be returning for dinner sometime this week. It's good to know that you can only pay cash before 5:30 and after that you can pay by credit card. Returned for Happy Hour and that was fun, dinner was too expensive so we left and went somewhere else to eat. read more

The view and atmosphere is great but the staff is not nearlY as attentive and helpful as they should be considering they are in an upscale restaurant where people are spending a decent amount of money. Our waiter was attentive but service was very slow. The drinks were mediocre and the dessert which was the brownie sundae was a store bought tasteless brownie bite with a half scoop of flavorless ice cream. To top it off the hostess Dulce was extremely rude! When asked to split the check she rudely replied "we busy". No customer service or respect for paying customers. Karen should pay more attention to the people she hires. Won't be coming here again. Save money and go to Mark's Bar and Grill. read more

The only thing going for Karen's is the location on the beach. We went there for an early dinner tonight, but the food took 2 hours to get to our table and the food was mediocre at best.
