At midday on a weekday (spring-2026), this warm-feeling comfortable pub was active but not crowded. Of course we had beer-battered fish & chips: tender sweet cod in a not-too-thick crunchy flavorful coating, with fresh greens, onions, and tomatoes. Served with piping-hot thin fries, hand-cut to give a variety of crispier vs. soft bites. You could get that as a small-plate, as a Po'Boy sandwich, or as a main. And we had a bowl of thick rich flavorful creamy chowder. Delicious, satisfying dishes. They had a nice selection of deep crusty savory pies, too. We loved their amazing range of single-malt whiskeys, including some like a smokey softly-fruity Port Askaig that we haven't seen elsewhere. We liked slowly sipping a strongly-peaty young Islay, like 10-year Laphroaig, and Boyd's also had plenty of smoother well-aged pours up and down the price-range. We also went on and ordered since we had no idea when she would return for our order. She brought the water and soda but no beer and then we didn't see her (at our table) until our food came out. My beer came out with the food, a good 10 minutes after I ordered it. I know you may be thinking that the bar was backed up but her other table (that arrived after) got their drinks right away and also a 2nd order of drinks before I received my beer. She never came to check on us with our food and spent more time at the table that arrived with her friends. Her attitude and personality was vastly different with our table versus her friend's table. When it came time to get us our check. I saw her roll her eyes and walked towards us. I let it slide instead of calling her out on her actions as I just wanted to leave. We paid our check and left. I truly feel like this will be our last time here because of the service we received. We have many friends who travel to Knoxville for various sporting events (since I'm in that industry) and I always recommend Stock and Barrel. The food was OK, but i expected some English pub type food, but it was just the same type of sandwichs prepared differently. The service was bad. I ordered my food and had pay for it right there just like at a Burger King. They dropped the food on the table and left. Nobody ever checked back to see if it was made correctly or if I needed anything. So many other places with better service and food - definitely a hard pass on a return visit...

Great spot! Wow!…read more While passing through Knoxville, we stumbled upon the Preservation Pub. We had seen a band was playing, so we figured we would drop in and check it out. Not a bad spot on a Tuesday night! Band was lively, and the crowd was friendly. Didn't realize at first that there were three(+) levels, so finding the arcade on the second floor (as well as another bar) and the roof patio (with yet another bar) made this place super fun. Lots of different settings depending on what you are looking for. The rooftop was great though - giving a view of the city, as well as a lot of interesting built in art. Also loved the artistic (signed decorated) washrooms - that was a hilarious and unexpected touch! If I lived in Knoxville, this would definitely be one of my go-to spots!
