I try and give Kasey's business but every single time I am terribly disappointed by the staff. We tried to get a beer last night and the one bartender that was staffed didn't come to ask us what we wanted for 10 minutes while she closed out checks and cleaned up glasses. I have worked in the service industry and understand to get your customer a drink, then clean up the glasses, then close out the checks. Duh. Wont go back. It smells like stale beer, the bar is wet and sticky and the service SUCKS!! Pretty sure they hire the same people that work at Villians. read more

My son and I are from Boston and were looking for a good place to watch the Pats game yesterday. We felt really comfortable, even though we were obviously not watching the same game as most of the bar. Great, friendly atmosphere with dogs running around in football jerseys and free hot dogs and hamburgers. I had a very tasty bloody mary, although I made a note to myself to come back here again next time I was in town and taste one of the 30+ microbrews they had on tap (all at very reasonable prices). I used to love coming here after work to have a few pints and read a book. It's quiet enough, you can always get a table, and they have monthly specials. They have plenty of TVs for sports as well. I say used to because this past week I went in and a family of four were coming in at that same time I was. No big deal. It was about to rain so I wasn't surprised. One member of the family was clearly studying here and his family was visiting from China. They sat down, asked the bartender about the drinks, and ordered just like anyone else does. After the family left, the bartender goes to clean up the glasses and notices the mother of the family had brought in her own can of beer. She was a little upset about that, which is totally understandable. Having lived in China before, I told her that it's not uncommon to have a "walking beer" in some parts of the world. They could have thrown it out before coming in, but it didn't seem like that big of a deal. Her response to me was "Orientals don't clean up after themselves. You should see my block." Now, I'd expect to hear that word from maybe an 85-year-old, but not a bartender my age in a major city. If you'd like your beer with a side of racism, this is the place for you. I'm still going to give it two stars because it really is a nice little place. I won't be coming back though. I doubt they'll miss the $15 I spent there once a week, but I felt compelled to share the experience. read more

As a visitor here for a trade show we walked here from the Marriott Renaissance. Great vibe. Old building, awesome beers, and down to earth bartenders in the form of Kelsey and Amy. Kelsey made sure we felt at home and even recommended other late night spots. Just enough TV's to enjoy the games. Most people are locals and Cubs fans who work in the area, the others are tourists who want a chilled out classic pub vibe. Excellent selection of craft and local. Age group is late 20's - 30's. My boyfriend and I came here recently to watch the Sunday football game. It's a super cute local bar with a homey atmosphere. Great 4-page beer list with tons on draft, and they even had hot dogs and tamales on hand for those who were watching the game. Definitely will be coming back here and would recommend to anyone for a low-key, neighborly place to have a drink. As previous reviewers mentioned, they don't really have a kitchen here (they do offer pizza), but you can bring in food - which is even better with all the great food places nearby! They also don't accept credit or debit cards unless the order is above $15 - so grab cash if you're only planning on a beer or two. read more

This is a really nice neighborhood bar. It's lively and crowded on weekend nights, but there's usually a few places to sit down. The beer list is great and the bartenders are friendly and always willing to give suggestions. It's a great place to watch a game or just hang out with friends. I only give it four stars because it doesn't have a kitchen. They will order takeout from Hackneys for you, but it takes a while and I'm not a huge fan of Hackneys food. read more

Last night two of my co-workers and I decided that Friday the 13th was a swell day to get a drink after work LOL we work across millennium park but the bars around us didn't appeal, or should I say the prices hahaha. We spent all day reading yelp reviews and we came across Kaseys Tavern and Halligans The reason we chose Kaseys; the blueberry beer was very appealing and so were the reviews! We came in at around 7:00 pm there was only one table available in the back by the bathrooms but didn't bum us out as much. The blueberry beer was GREAT! Even though they don't have a full kitchen menu, we swear that was the best frozen pizza we had ever ate! Definitely want to make out that our Server STEPHANIE was awesome!!! it was crowded and busy yet she was so attentive! A table open up in the front and she set our next round of beers over there and told us "hey ladies save u a seat up front, some folks just left" how awesome is she! Definitely recommend and are coming back again! read more

Kasey's has been in the libation business since 1889 and they know what they're doing. Great beer selection at the best prices I've found in the downtown area, and it has managed to retain its neighborhood bar feel for over 100 years - an accomplishment in itself. When we first moved to the area it was never that packed, but it is more crowded now with the development of the South Loop and the expansion of student housing nearby. This still doesn't deter us from heading down there to knock down a couple (or more) drafts on a hot summer day or even in the middle of the winter when the foggy windows beckon. Cheers! read more

This place is basically my second home. I adore most of the staff. But I am so so bummed I can't bring my dog in anymore. I totally understand why they banned dogs because of the "incident" Someone had a pitbull in the bar, when it was crowded, it bit someone and the dog owner didn't really do anything to rectify the situation. I just wish maybe there was a way to have dog friendly hours, or asking that dogs are on a short leash, have a DFA license or something. Or just ban certain dogs who have been aggressive. Most of the dog owners were responsible and didn't bring their dogs in during busy hours or would take them home if it was getting crowded. Sadly, I don't go to Kaseys as often as I used to because I can't bring my pup:( read more

I read the reviews here. I am a regular (weekly) customer here. I noticed the management has changed (for the worse unfortunately); but all in all, the bar is a good place to congregate. Most waitresses are very serviceable and friendly. The bar can use some updating while keeping its charm. The beer selection is very good. I don't understand the comments about beer selection. The wine selection is poor but this is not a wine bar. My only complaint is that while using the patio on the sidewalk, smoke from smokers is a nuisance. At times, people using the patio are smoking and I ask them to leave which they do but this is still an issue to me. read more

I typically do not give one stars out to establishments but I have no choice but to do so for Kasey's, and not because of the drinks but because of the service. My friends and I decided to check out this bar about a month ago based off the great reviews on yelp. When we first arrived we were slightly confused because there is the bar and then there are tables. Since there was a group of four of us we chose the tables. What made this process confusing was that we waited for several minutes but no one came to serve us, so we were not sure if we had to go up to the bar or wait an eternity to come serve us. That was more so awkward than a huge deal, we just went up to the bar and ordered. We loved the beer and the environment and were overall having a great time. Towards the end of our time there, we noticed that the table behind us was getting service but not us, but at this point we did not care. I asked the man (his name is Craig with a "C" as he later bluntly told me) for our check. When he arrived with the check, he had added my boyfriend and my bill with our friends' bill. When we asked about this, as we had all ordered separately he stated that it was easier for the bar to do so. This was perplexing to me especially because there were no signs around stating this was the policy. I asked Craig for a pen so I could circle who had what. Craig hastily stated that he could just be informed of how we wanted to split the bill. However, when I began to tell him he rolled his eyes and then requested we split the items. After a few minutes of attempting to remember and almost calculating whose was whose, Craig returned and ripped the check out of my friend's hand and stated that this was not "rocket science" and stormed off. When Craig returned, I asked to speak to the manager due to the unbelievable amount of disrespect he had now shown us and I was told that he was the manager that night! I asked him why he had been rude to us this entire time and he stated that he had not because he had only started serving us (giving away his awful service once again). Needless to say he continued to argue with me until I finally requested to speak with his boss. In the end he continued to make errors on the separation of the check and did not even give my friend his card back originally. Also Craig was taking shots behind the bar, which is absolutely unprofessional especially if you are the manager. Although I have not called his boss, I am writing about my experience here. It is truly a shame because the place was great but who wants to be treated like that?! read more

Moved into the South Loop this past week and was told to go here. They had a good selection of beer from all over and a very friendly staff. They used to allow dogs in the place but recently rescinded that option (wish they would being it back) and they allow outside food. I should be visiting the neighborhood bar quite often read more
