I want to love Kashmir so hard. It's one of the closest Indian restaurants to me. I've ordered to-go and dined in several times and each time it is just OK. I tend to order chicken tikka masala every single time and I've asked for medium spice but it never quite gets there. I'm too chicken to order spicy to see if I can finally reach the spice level I desire. The veggie samosas seem to miss the mark on flavor too. It's like a spice or two was forgotten in the mix. No matter what I order and if I dine in or carry out, I'm rushed in and out as if I was a nuisance. Okay guys, I really hate to do this but I have to. Prepare for a long rant. Kashmir was one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville and my go to comfort food. BUT. Today I ordered Kashmir on Postmates, Chicken Tikka Masala. It gets to my house and I start eating it and I bite into something hard. I look at what I just bit into and it is RAW CHICKEN. So I call the restaurant and they sound surprised and ask me what I would like to do about it. I said all I want is a new order because I'm nervous about the rest of my previous order for seemingly obvious reasons. They accept. I drive to pick up my delivery order that I was NOT EVEN OFFERED TO BE REFUNDED FOR, but that's fine, I'm hungry. When I get there the man at the counter barely looks at me and points to a bag on the table and tells me that's mine and then proceeds to tell me that I am lying and that it is not possible that this happened, insinuating I am making the whole thing up. So, fine. I take the bag and ignore his comments. The bag is just chicken, not the whole order with rice. I ask if I could have rice with the chicken because I put the chicken on top of the rice I previously had. He tells me no. And that he doesn't believe me in the first place and that I have to pay if I want rice also. YOU GUYS. I have been in that restaurant 10000 times, I am probably single handedly keeping Kashmir afloat with the amount I eat there. I have concerned friends to back this up. My point is, they have to know I'm a regular customer?! So I left the chicken there, walked out, and am now not only super disappointed that I have to cross this off my list of amazing Louisville restaurants but also regretting that I feel the need to warn other people because that guy obviously DOES NOT CARE about health codes/food safety. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a meal. Our family just arrived and checked into our hotel--the Hyatt Regency downtown, and decided to order from Kashmir for an early dinner. We ordered a vegetable platter, which consisted of a few small burnt fried items which were almost inedible. Peas Pulao (rice with peas), chicken biryani, shrimp biryani, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, naan, and gulab jamun. Everything looked and tasted bad. Our kids wouldn't touch anything except the chicken tikka masala (which was red not orange as pictured). We spent almost $100 to have this food Door Dashed and it was such a waste. Complained to Door Dash and only received a $5 refund. If you're looking for authentic Indian food, this is not it! Not a good first impression of Louisville and it's offerings. read more

Ugh! It's so upsetting seeing this place only has about three stars on Yelp! This is by far my favorite Indian food in Louisville. I've been here more times than I can count and had carry out numerous times. I come here almost every year for my birthday dinner because it's that good. I have never ever had bad service or bad food. The dishes are always consistent. The atmosphere is great whether you're inside or outside on their fantastic patio. Every vegetarian dish I've ever tried has been great, but their chana masala is my favorite. It's thick with different veggies mixed in with the chickpeas. This last time I went I tried aloo nan which I hadn't had before and it was awesome! I do not understand the Yelp rating for this place at all. The menu is large, but pretty well categorized by contents (meats, vegetarian, etc), but i'm not really familiar with Indian food, and not being a super fan of spicy, i wasn't sure what to order. When the gentleman came to the table to take our orders everyone knew what they wanted - except me. When it was my turn, i told him, "I'm not really sure". Being a restaurant patron, i fully expected him to assist me in finding something i'd like. But no, he didn't even attempt to suggest something, he just skipped over me, making eye contact with the next person and moving on. When he'd taken their orders, he walked away! It took me about 8 minutes to flag him down -- after having my friends (& pictures on Yelp) help me decide on something i thought i'd like. When he finally came back over, it really felt uncomfortable, like i was a huge inconvenience for him. I hated that feeling. The top of the menu says "all entrees served with onion chutney - a serving of rice is $2". In my experience, the pricing is not straightforward. I ordered an entrée and intentionally did not order rice, after I saw that there was a $2 charge. To my surprise, when the entrées came out, we were presented with seven bowls of rice. I thought to myself, "this is nice, perhaps I misunderstood the menu, or maybe they changed the $2 charge for rice after reading all the disgruntled reviews". We actually discussed it at the table since only 2 or 3 people had intentionally specified rice when ordering. We figured maybe the $2 was if you wanted an extra serving. But no, that's not the case! After eating, we had to flag down someone to get the check. When it came we found that were all grouped together on one check. They'd never asked how we wanted the checks split. We went up to the register to have everything separated. The owner, I presume (he'd greeted us when we entered the restaurant, & came back to take our order) Heard is asking to split the check. He quickly jumped in and said he take care of it because he remembered what we do old ordered. One by one we walked to the register and went over our menu selections with him. He typed in numbers on a calculator while totaling the amount we owed. I noticed that when he typed my amount into the calculator he typed in 3.5, then 2 then 9.99 -- totaling $15.49 -- he quickly charged my credit card that amount. It happened so fast, I didn't have much time to think. He was like a con artist, working quickly to confuse and distract as we were being ripped off by a few dollars. As my friends continued to pay, I sat with a menu to re-confirm the pricing on my meal -- the Vegetable Pakora appetizer was $3.50; but my Malai Kofta entree was $8.99 (not 9.99 like he'd charged me) -- and I didn't order rice; they just assumed I wanted rice and brought it out with the meal. I asked the gentleman why I'd been charged $15.49 when my meal should have cost $12.49. He spoke quickly, but said something about the charge for rice. I explained that I hadn't ordered rice because i didn't want to pay $2 for a bowl of rice. He reached in the register and took out $2 cash. He handed it to me as the solution. I was pretty frustrated and confused - and my large group of non-confrontational friends seemed annoyed too as they waited for me, so I didn't even bother with asking about the additional $1 that had been tacked onto the price of my entree. I am all for paying for something you've ordered; but i didn't like feeling that it was an inconvenience to wait on me. I also didn't appreciate the feeling of being conned & tricked into paying more than the advertised price, or paying for something I hadn't ordered. After leaving, I also realized there was no sales tax calculation or receipt for my purchase. The whole experience just felt really weird and a little shady. I won't be going back. I like straightforward pricing and customer service. Kashmir unfortunately doesn't check those boxes for me. It has been a while since I have been here. They have changed the inside quite a bit. However the food is still pretty good. I started out with a meat samosa that were very good. Lots of filling in this. You could actually eat this for your lunch with another appetizer. Then came the non vegetarian thali which comes with land chicken tandoori a chicken dish and a cucumber sauce raita. Pratha and papadom and a puffy nan came also. The team that works today were a couple of gentlemen that I think own/operate. As always they are very nice and helpful. If you have yet to try this place find some time to go. He immediately asked what we would like to order and we asked for a few minutes. The next stop, we pondered what type of beer Kingfish and Taj Mahal were. He had no clue so we went ahead and ordered the two.... He came over to take our order and In the middle of asking him about the menu items he just stared at me... Turned around, and saw someone walking through the doors and walked away. We then waited around 5-8 minutes and were greeted by another server who was timely and took our orders. He also was not that friendly either. We ordered the spinach naan which was okay and the vegetarian platter. It was very flavors and softly fried. For our meals, we ordered the thio sampler and the saag paneer with garlic naan. The garlic naan was not as flavorful as others. But it's okay. Everyone has their own style. When we finished our meals, we stayed at talked around twenty minutes and the servers were standing in the same room as us with no one else dining... As if waiting for us to leave so they could clean the table. The entire time just felt weird. All in all, I have had better and more flavorful experience des at. I have no idea what I did without Indian cuisine in my life. I hadn't tried it until four years ago when I tried Kashmir for the very first time, and I now frequent the restaurant quite often for my favorite dishes. I've tried several of Kashmir's offerings, from Chicken Tikka Masala (my personal favorite), Chicken Curry, Saag Paneer, Naan, Samosas, and more. Everything I've tried has been full of flavor and seasoned to perfection. I order all of my dishes hot, which can mean very mild spice to nearly inedible depending on the day, so order with caution! The portions are huge, and I always have enough left over for an additional meal the next day. I've always felt welcomed to Kashmir, whether eating in or carrying out, and the staff has always been very kind. There is nothing special about the atmosphere of the dining area, but I'm such a regular, I feel at home in their small, unassuming space. Plus, when the weather is nice, Kashmir has a huge patio space just off Bardstown Road in the center of it all. They offer a lunch buffet every day of the week where you can try many different popular items from the menu if you're new to Indian cuisine and don't know what to try. These dishes are all served mild, so I've been known to ask for extra spice on the side ;) You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu in my experience. Kashmir is great Indian good. During the week they have a fantastic lunch buffet. It's small but there's always a good variety of food. I luckily don't work too far from Kashmir and am able to run out for a quick lunch every other week or so. Dinner is also great and is much more customisable. My favorite dish is their Saag Paneer. Kashmir was the first Indian restaurant I ever had and 7 years later it is still my favorite! Our dinner group started with chai tea, vegetable pakoras and cheese pakoras and both were absolutely amazing! Especially the spicy red onions that come with them. The chai and appetizers came out fast and fresh! As I always I ordered the chicken chili extra hot and medium saag paneer and went the with spinach Naan. If you have read any of my other reviews you know how much I love hot food! Let me tell you how out of this world this chicken chili was! VERY spicy, huge chunks of white meat chicken mixed with peppers, onions and tomatoes. I was sweating from the heat and it was amazing. I don't think any other Indian restaurant around can get the spice and flavor that Kashmir has. The saag was good as always, I wish there was a bit more cheese, but still delicious. Our waiter who I believe is the owner is always very attentive and nice! Food came out quick and tasty! I hate to give less than stellar reviews of family run businesses, but I was terribly disappointed in my last two trips to Kashmir. The service was good, the management friendly. I had the vegetable thali, which is a combo plate. My favorite Indian dish, the Malai Kofta, had one dumpling and was salty and bland. The Channa Masala and Matter Paneer were bland and overly salty as well. The lentil soup was good. My husband liked his Mano chicken. As I said, a previous trip was a forgettable lunch buffet with very dry Tandoori Chicken. At times, restaurants tame the heat factor for sake of the masses. That is not the same as flavor- the combinations of delicious spices simmered for hours that is the hallmark of the cuisine. Sadly, they have missed the mark for me. read more
