I lived in Columbus for years before relocating in 2016 and somehow never made it to Katalina's. Visiting for a wedding, my partner and I finally decided to give it a shot. I wish I could say it was worth the wait. We ordered the "award winning" breakfast tacos, the Nutella pancake balls with bacon, and two orange juices. The bill came to nearly $50 and then we were asked for a tip. That last part stung a little, considering the service model is essentially counter-order takeout style. A friendly staff member directed us to grab a menu, decide what we wanted, and then come tell her. We did sit down and have our food brought to us, but it still felt more like a fast-casual setup than one that warrants a tip prompt. The restaurant itself is pleasant, clean, open, and airy with a nice patio out front. No complaints there. The food, however, was underwhelming. The breakfast tacos, supposedly the star of the show, were bland across the board and fell apart almost immediately. Three small tacos for $20 is a tough sell when there's nothing memorable about them. The Nutella pancake balls were decent but forgettable. The real highlight? The bacon, but that's not exactly a high bar. As for the orange juice, it comes pre-made and refrigerated near the register, which felt a little out of place for a spot with this kind of reputation. I genuinely don't understand the hype around the food here. The price point would be justified if the flavors delivered, but they simply don't. I've enjoyed their other locations, and today I had a chance to get over here. The menu is almost the same, but they have a few different items. It's a freestanding building, remodeled from something else. I had assumed it would be tucked into one of the little strips in Bexley, but it's just east of the main retail area. Parking lot and street parking. Super friendly service, and fast; food was up in five minutes. I had figured it would be a better choice than fast food, which was my other option, and it was indeed better, and just as fast. I wasn't super hungry, so I got the purple latkes and the elote, two apps. The latkes were excellent. Crisp but soft inside, tasty. Served with sour cream and applesauce. Good applesauce, not just a little cup of Mott's. Sprinkled with scallions. The elote was good, not great. Corn is out of season, of course. The flavor was decent although the cheese and all the seasoning kind of slid off in my hands. A little messy. Again, to be expected. But I had hoped for a little more favor. They do have assorted hot sauces all around the dining area. I also had a Horchata, small but heavily spiced and flavorful. The main drawback is the price. Two fairly small apps and a drink, for $30. It's good stuff though, but it's not some place I can eat very often. But for breakfast or brunch, or occasional other stops, it is a good choice. read more

Well for my second trip here I had chick-wich sammie with my egg over easy. It was yummy and huge! I brought half home We also shared purple latkes. I love this location. The ambience is perfect for a morning brunch with a friend. My go-to is the Ms. Katalina's Migas. This meal has so much flavor and the blue corn tortillas pair perfectly with it. The servers are always super helpful and kind. If you don't know what to get, they're all super knowledgeable to help. The maple cold brew is good, but a little bit too sweet for me. I usually just go for the hot black coffee and it's great! read more

I have been to the Katalina's in Clintonville numerous times before finally going to the one in Bexley. It did not disappoint especially for the Pancake Balls with Sweet & Spicy Bacon. The husband had the burrito and the wife did the Sammy with Avocado. I always get the pancake balls with the pumpkin and apple butter filled inside the ball. Same rules like other Katalina's, do not sit until you ordered your food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I like the water dispenser with a choice of carbonated, chilled, plain water. I love the Mexican bottled Coca-Cola and Boylan's Diet Cola. Their food was delicious too. The location used to be a Boston Market. I will be going back to the Katalina's in Bexley again soon. read more

A bright and airy diner greeted our search for pancake balls. The rich treats were filled with a delicious dulce de leche filling and sweet and spicy bacon strips. The maple syrup on the side was the perfect companion. We also enjoyed a crispy chicken sandwich and the gigantic burrito. read more

Katalina's has been one of my favorite restaurants for awhile now for breakfast. I finally got to go to their third location. It is strongly encouraged to order your food prior to grabbing a seat. We arrived at noon on a Sunday morning and parking was totally fine due to the place next door being closed. I think it could get hard to park. I always get my favorite of their Award-Winning Breakfast Tacos. Three local Koki's white corn tortillas filled with North Market Spices-infused housemade chorizo, scrambled cage-free eggs, housemade tomatillo sauce, avocado, queso fresco, organic cilantro, local Snowville crema & fresh pico de gallo. Served with Elote Mexican Street Corn. You should definitely get their Original Pancake Balls for the table. The Nutella ones are AMAZING! You can choose your fillings of Nutella, Dulce de leche, or Katalina's Pumpkin-Apple Butter. I don't know if I would get this for a full meal but something for everyone. This restaurant is bigger than their others. It is a little different that at the other locations, there are drawings everywhere and it's encouraged to sign your name. I would definitely give this restaurant a try if you're looking for a quick breakfast. It is a tad pricey but in my opinion, worth it. read more

First, the counter service was great: very friendly, offering helpful suggestions and explanations about the menu, and overall felt very welcoming. The prices are quite high, especially considering the size of the dishes. It took a surprisingly long time for our food to come out, even though the order was simple (avocado toast and a chicken sandwich), and the server did apologize for the wait. The sandwich was tasty; we didn't care for the potato side (lukewarm, not a lot of flavor). The avocado toast was good. Cute, clean decor with original art work in and outside. Seating is somewhat limited, and you must order before sitting, so that can be a mirror stressful (they have a nice outdoor patio, so warm weather months might be a better time to check this out). read more

Waited over an hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive at our table. 3/4 of us had the same meal so it was not a complex order. Several families received food before us. Associate gave us chips for free after we hit the hour mark. We were also given 2 $10 gift cards for the four of us to split. The venue is very small and quite busy... I had very friendly service at the ordering counter. They were very knowledgeable and helpful with questions on the menu. I got my food to go because it was very hard to find seating. I think my food was pretty good, however extremely overpriced. I don't foresee me going back (intentionally) anytime soon. read more

Renee was the sweetest and most professional server we have had in a long time! She suggested the breakfast tacos with the house made chorizo that was amazing! We ended up having to wait for a table after ordering. $ 16.25 for 6 pancake balls and $4.50 ( price unlisted) for a regular cup of coffee. We ended up spending $50 plus with tips for two people. It wouldn't have been so bad if the food was good . The food was inedible! The pancake balls were doughy and the pumpkin filling was very tart and the veg sausages were bland . The food was very mediocre. I believe that the other locations are amazing but this one has been very normal. I feel that the cooks are simply following the recipes from the other restaurants. The bacon is very flimsy and wet. And the food is just more bland than the other restaurants. I was very excited when I heard that a Katalinas was being opened in Bexley. But now that I have eaten there 3 times and each time, I've gone back hoping that it's better. Unfortunately, it hasn't changed anything and remained the same bland flavor. I hope that if Katalinas opens more locations, they don't keep getting worse. I'm just going to eat at the original one. read more

I expected across-the-board greatness based on the original Katalina's but - - - the latkes were soggy and gross, the freshly-squeezed orange juice was bitter, and the customer service was a little indifferent. On the bright side, the pulled pork tacos were okay, the street corn that was served with the tacos was great, and the apple butter that was served with the latkes was really good. The new location may just be working through some growing pains, so I'll be back, hoping for better things. read more

Went hoping to be wowed! I was not. Our party ordered the pancake balls Dulce de Leche and Nutella, they came with a side of delicious bacon done just right. The pancake balls were tasty but lightly stuffed and very cold. The pulled pork tacos were reported to be fine but nothing unusual. Most disappointing were the latkes. They were soggy and stone cold- very un-latke like. The order taker marked the order as "to go" when we specified "eat in" which probably explained why things were cold. This mistake was theirs. I found the menu too expensive. You have to place your order at the front register (no table service) and they only take credit card. No pricing on drinks... surprised at a $4.50 cold black tea that I got (8-10oz). The pancake balls are pretty hollow and not a whole lot of filling. Again, too expensive, $16.25 for 6 balls. I asked for butter instead of maple syrup for my 2 slices of brioche French toast ($12); this was the Kids (Only) option, however, the employee taking my order said it was ok to order the kids portion. The butter came ice cold in a plastic souffle cup (I could see that the butter had been portioned out from a larger stick of butter) so I asked the same girl at the register if she could soften it so that I could spread on the French toast without tearing it up. After 5 minutes, the employee brought it out where I spread/poured the softened butter on the toast. To my disappointment, the butter had a garlic taste! I don't know if it was a compound butter, or they grabbed a knife that was previously used to cut garlic. My French toast was awful tasting and I couldn't finish after eating a few bites. I probably will not go back. Over hyped. I had been at the Harrison West location many years ago and pricing was more resonable. I guess they had to increase menu pricing due to the expansion of the business. Note: The dinning area at the Bexley location reminded me of Piada, but with backless aluminum stools.
