YE Gurl Eats: Diner Realness & Rent Talk at Jack & Benny's Date: June 22, 2025 Location: Jack and Benny's Vibe: Clutter-core Diner Meets Conscious Auntie Energy Now this, my friends, is what you call a true mom & pop classic. Jack and Benny's isn't trying to be trendy, slick, or Instagrammable--and that's the charm. Think: laminated menus with a hundred options, mystery plateware that's seen generations, and that one wobbly table you hope isn't yours (but probably is). We landed a booth and were promptly greeted by a lovely elder with Great Auntie Vibes™, who came in hot with our menus and even hotter takes on the gentrification of the city. Between pouring coffee refills and recommending omelets, she hit us with real-life housing truths: "Some of these landlords inherited buildings but don't treat the tenants like they inherited people. Seventy-year-olds shouldn't have to beg for working heat." Whew. Pass the syrup and the solidarity. What I Ate: Ranchero Omelet ($9.99): Tomatoes, onions, green peppers, beans, hot spices, and cheese Plain Pancake instead of toast ($3.25): 'Cause why not? Fresh-Squeezed Orange Juice ($4.99): Straight from the Zumex Versatile Pro juicer right in the room--it doesn't get fresher than that. The portions were right, the prices stayed humble, and the plate came fast--served with a side of timeless diner charm. Let's be clear: this spot isn't curated, it's lived in. And it shouldn't change. The soul of the city lives in places like this. So keep your faux vintage wall art--I'll take chipped mugs, spicy omelets, and a server who knows what's *really* going on in the neighborhood. Jack & Benny's, don't go changin'. The world may spin fast around you, but your booth is a beautiful place to slow it down.

The majority of our food was good. My friend and I both got shredded hashbrowns and they were undercooked and tasted raw. But her veggie omelette and my breakfast sandwich were very tasty. The Fresh Squeezed OJ was amazing. Our server was very kind and was able to answer a couple questions we had. The vibe was very nice and especially being so close to campus. I would come back.

This was my first time at Jack & Benny's. I loved the food and service! I will return and highly recommend. I went with my daughter and her boyfriend. The hardest part of my experience was trying to decide from all of the appetizing menu choices. I settled on the Gut Buster. You will not be disappointed. I ordered my eggs scrambled. The delicious gravy held it all together: eggs, sausage, cheese, ham, hash browns, and a potato pancake - feels like I'm missing something. Yeah, it comes with two pieces of toast, too. When you arrive you write your name down on the list. The owner/manager was very nice. She was attentive and kept our coffee mugs full. Our food came out quickly, this was on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30 PM. The wait was not long at all, maybe 10 minutes. Parking is on the street. I found some spots along Hudson. They've been in business for 25 years. I have lived in Columbus for 30 years, and somehow it took me this long to find them. Go today!

I absolutely love it here. The staff is always so friendly and the building itself is incredibly homey. I always make sure to ask if there are specials with the pancakes because they are superb. along with pancakes, I always enjoy an omelette with crispy has browns. This is the place to go when you are craving an all American breakfast, it will definitely hit the spot every time. This is my go to hangover spot and it never fails to satisfy me and send me straight into a food coma.

The food is not outstanding, but great diner to go to if you're in the campus area and want some good breakfast food.

Love their old fashioned diner feel

Jack in Benny's is one of the original iconic breakfast restaurants in Columbus. It is a step back in time. Great food at reasonable prices and you can sit at the bar and watch the cook make your food on a huge griddle. Pancakes are amazing, breakfast burritos are humongous and there are so many more wonderful things! If you haven't tried it yet, it should absolutely be on your list this winter. It closes at 3 PM so make sure you go early.

I may not get breakfast burritos that much, but that was the best breakfast burrito I've had. The peppers, onion and sausage were chopped pretty small and the burrito was packed! So packed that the food kept falling out of the burrito. I will for sure be back soon to try their pancakes I've heard about.

Little bit of a wait, but worth it. This place feels old and loved, which is great. You can tell it's always busy, and the food proved why. I loved my pumpkin spice pancakes, bacon and eggs. The coffee was good too, and I'm kind of a coffee snob. Feels like a mom and pop place, and I loved some of the original furnishings. I wish we had one of these in Cincinnati.

I have been in here a few times over the years and it is the classic diner vibe. A friend was visiting and they wanted the diner feel so it was a great fit. We were seated right away, they do have fresh squeezed oj which we did not have but looked tasty! I had the "fresh" corn beef hash which was standard diner corned beef. The others had breakfast burritos and they were all right. Food was decent but wasn't too thrilled about the price.

My wife had a veggie omelet add a bratwurst. So much for veggie. Lol Her omelet waa okay. More like a few eggs, folded over some veggies. Not mixed in. To some, this is a perfectly made omelet. The technique seemed correct, maybe fold the eggs over when they're still wet. Would have made all the difference. The bratwurst was excellent and my mustard hating wife loved the kitchen made mustard. So much so that we brought some home. She also had fresh squeezed OJ. Always a super sweet treat. The service waa excellent and more than made up for the minor challenges. Based on the bratwurst alone, the traditional dinner items have got to be incredible. When we're back that way we'll likely stop there again.

Valter and his sister, both from Albania, own the restaurant and rent the building from the German Maennerchor choir. On Thursday nights they practice upstairs and you can hear their singing. Mostly all the food comes from Valters farm on the south side - true farm to table. I haven't been for dinner so I can only speak to their brunch - Get the French toast!!! It is not your typical and it's SO good. I had their eggs and potatoes- excellent Mimosa's are delicious The servers are usually always in good spirits as well as the bartenders. OH! And the desserts in the case, are home made... need I say more.
