The most delicious BLT on fresh ciabatta bread! Came back to get them twice last week! Nice seating surrounded by flowers out in front of the shop.

One of the several anachronistic little general stores that have managed to survive on the island, Katama General Store has change quite a bit over the years. It's still small and kind of dumpy looking from the outside but over the years has acquired more of a gourmet flavor to it. They still have great coffee and freshly baked pies, cookies, breads and scones and still offer locally grown fresh produce but now offer more of a selection of touristy gifts. They will also prepare meals for the busy tourist on the go. Not necessary a bad thing but the store is no longer as quaint and rustic as it once was. It's not all junk food, the store has great sandwiches and salads and a nice variety of juice and healthy drinks. It's a great place to stop on the way down or back from south beach since it is the only place serving food or even water between Edgartown and the beach. You can sit outside and enjoy a sandwich, some fresh produce or more importantly something to drink while you watch the world go by. I usually am dry as the sand by the time I return from hiking along the south beaches and this place is always a welcome sight. When I feel like I'm about to expire of thirst, it appears like an oasis in the desert. Sure, it's not cheap but then nothing on the Vineyard is. Even though the store has unfortunately changed a bit and now caters more to the tourist population it still manges to retain some of the old-fashioned, personality of the general stores of the years gone by. Always an enjoyable place to stop and eat, sit, talk and just enjoy the island.

This place is definitely not the cheapest place - but nor is the Vineyard, so I deal with it.

As far as Edgartown liquor stores go, Your Market is where it's at. They've got a pretty great…read moreselection of wine, and a very impressive craft beer section, which even includes some rare Shipyard specialty brews and Allagash varieties. While I've honestly never purchased any food from here, there do have some good beach picnic stuff like chips and snacks and what not, but the real draw is the liquor. While beer and wine are great, the spirits selection is a bit slim -they only had one type of rye available, and there's more rum than anything else. The prices are slightly higher, of course, than anything off-island, but compared to other liquor stores on MV, they're on-par. The parking lot has ample space, so you're usually able to find a spot, but seeing as it's right in the dreaded Edgartown Traffic Triangle, getting in and out in the summer months can be a bitch!

I called here twice tonight to attempt to place an order for pickup for a friend's bday weekend…read more Someone at a B&B where my friend will be staying this weekend suggested I call Jim's and she would pickup the items for me. Super sweet! Unfortunately, the phone customer service at Jim's STINKS. The first woman who answered sounded half asleep, insisted they don't have anything but alcohol, and then hung up on me when I mentioned the website says they also have some snack and convenience items! When I called back someone else answered, was equally as rude and sleepy and said "We mostly sell alcohol." I said YES, I know, but I'd like to add some snack items. She got defensive and annoyed when I confused her for the first person (they both sounded asleep so easy to assume they're the same person!), and started insisting delivery was gone for the night. I explained that someone would pickup, that I don't need delivery, and asked why is she being rude in addition to the first person hanging up on me? I asked for her name, to which she replied "why do you need my name?" I was transferred to the first girl who said she had a customer come in and so she hung up on me since delivery is gone for the night anyway. Ummmm. You can't put someone on hold?? Really poor customer service. I was planning on dropping some serious coin to ensure my friends bday weekend in MV was made more enjoyable by my large gift basket. "Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now." I certainly hope "Jim" or whoever owns this place takes a look at who he has working in the evening and answering phones. And in case Jim reads this, I called on Wednesday night Oct 13, 2021. I know good staff is hard to come by these days, but come on. If you don't want to work and are too sleepy to answer the phones, quit and go home.
