There is a lovely childrens corner, with a variety of toys that are not shabby or worn out. When I try on clothes they also are not shabby or worn, and often there are real treasures to find. I enjoy browsing there and have never felt that there was pressure to make choices and buy. read more

I will never understand how places like this stay in business. I wouldn't normally post a negative review of a small business based on a negative personal interaction, but it so happens that my opinion of the store wasn't otherwise very good, so here I am. This place aims to sell you only "upscale brands" but in reality, it's just the items that correspond to the owner's personal style. The selection is very poor. Shopping for kids' things was particularly frustrating as there was barely one or two items in each size. Thus so I can't understand how they're so picky/snobby with what consignment to accept when their shelves are so bare. As a consignor, the policy at Katelyn's Closet is that you drop off clothing and the next day you are supposed to return for your rejects or those things will be donated. There's no way of telling whether or not your things are accepted until you show back up with the store the next day. (This is a terrible policy). I've been buying and selling at consignment for YEARS and none of my items were taken for sale. And my unselected things were SO SO quickly donated, frankly it makes me suspicious that they were donated at all. Maybe they're being sold online. read more

I've been going to this store for over a decade now and love it. Kaitlyn's Closet takes the work out of consignment shopping. I love the clothes I buy there, and I come back on the regular, even though I no longer live in Multnomah Village, because the clothes are so good and the women know me there. They're so sweet, kind, and caring. I also bring clothes to sell and donate. They'll look at your clothes either on the spot, or will take 1 or 2 days (they take one day off a week from accepting clothes). You can choose to have clothes donated through them, and they team up with non-profits throughout Portland and give them to people in need. It's a win-win. What I love about this store is... everything about it. They even have skincare products that have allowed me to try $70+ products for $20 or less. I LOVE THIS STORE!!! I have walked by this place for the six years I have lived in Multnomah Village and never stopped in - it appears to me as a Kid's Resale shop. Well I saw my parent's had the Entertainment Book and this place had a 20% coupon. I came in and browsed a really long time - it was so fun. Lots of nice clothes for a variety of prices. Friendly staff. I haven't much experience with Consignments selling or buying, but I sure enjoyed this store. I eyed a rain coat but couldn't make up my mind - it was there the next weekend and I thought, well this must be a sign, but I still wasn't that sold on it - so I passed. I was inspired when I saw this cool gold skirt - ah! how about Cleopatra for Halloweec? I could doll myself up with accessories from home. I also found a cute slimming top to go along with it. I have spent a few hours browsing an listening to the employees chat and accept consignments. Fun and Good value I feel. Kids toys and clothes, too, some housewares, no men's items. read more

I just love this store. They are family and woman-owned by very kind and cool sisters and their mom + daughters. Sure are picky about what they accept but that's why they have such great merchandise! I've been a customer (and consignor) here for about five years and have nothing but great things to say about Katelyn's closet. I have also been back in Covid-times and felt safe shopping with the mask requirement, sanitizer and limited entry (not so limited that I had to wait to shop). At first the place was great and They had almost very thing for baby equipment, baby clothes, kids clothes, household items, and food! The mother and daughter lets you go once a month for 3 times for 3 months between and the process starts all over again. Today, There was a "Big Problem" with the Mother and Daughter that these people are so called church people, but they are very rude to peoples children, disrespectful, discrimination, and etc! These women kicked me and my friend out with our kids when we were leaving the parking lot to come back another month that we do need help for our families. The first reason was my 11 year old daughter was climbing on the shelves and sitting on the baby stuff which is bad and I told her not to do that and they gave us a warning ! So I didn't bring my daughter back. The big reason why they kicked me and my friend was over a stupid reason because my friend 2 year old daughter drop Tick Tacks on the cart and floor, which my friend picked it up and probably missed one or two or smooshed because she wears glasses/contacts because she can't see that well! I had my 6 year old son on the phone the whole time so he can be good, but that still did not make a difference for the mom and the daughter. I did nothing wrong and I still got kicked out! Sorry to say but I hope Karma or God will punish them for their stupidity actions to turn their backs for people in need. I had a gut feeling/bad vibe about the mother and daughter, these 2 ladies are Two-Faced/picky people!! I also think that they were discriminating me and my friend and we are white ladies with mixed kids! I want people to know to watch your backs when you do go there or just don't go! I have lived in the village for many years and have periodically shopped at Katelyn's. I go here sometimes when I am looking for like, one cute thing or maybe to look at shoes because they often have high quality stuff for a moderate price although some of the items are admittedly over-priced. I always walk out with at least one thing. Two things for consideration: the staff can be a little cool or stand-offish. But not all of them. Some are very friendly and helpful. 2nd - they seemed to have stopped carrying XL size? My weight tends to yo yo more than a champion yo-yoer at a yo yo competition and I usually range between a 6-12 and I used to always be able to shop here but last time I was in it seemed they completely nixed XL? I understand they downsized their space recently but just a heads up to my curve girls - this could be a wasted stop for you unless you can also do lg sizes. read more

Started out as a decent experience. The rules of their consignment were well laid out, the staff was friendly and the location was convenient. The issues I see as fairly substantial, came after I went to collect my non consigned items. 11 items were missing, including 3 pairs of Hudson and Paige denim jeans, that I bought and wore only a few times... these Items themselves retailed at almost $700.00 all together. I had asked before I consigned if it was safe to consign high end items, and they had told me yes. So where were the missing items? According to the owner, they were either mixed up, or stolen. Did I receive an apology? No. I was told "that's good for consigning so many items". Another thing, the items that were not lost, or stolen were sold for such little money, I would have rather donated them. Almost all of our items were Tea, Boden, Hannah Anderson, Columbia and other high end brands. After my bad experience at Kaitlyn's closet, I went to another local shop, and sold a similar lot, but with much fewer items than the one that had sold at Kaitlyn's. The Kaitlyn's closet (many more items) lot sold for about $80.00. The other shop I made $230.00. Something is not right at this shop. And I did not appreciate the indifference and attitude from the owner about all the lost / stolen items. They should really mention their problem with "loss", before having people sign contracts. read more

I have never left a store in tears until I went to Katelyn's Closet. Walking in, I was ignored by the two young women behind the desk. I said hello, and they paused their conversation for one of them to do a half-smirk and look me over with disdain. Not nice, but whatever. I was looking through the racks when I heard the pair cackle a couple minutes later. Then I heard a whispered "she's so fat, there's no way she'll find..." and then the other one cut in and said red floral flip flops are "retarded". I was wearing red floral flip flops, and was the only customer in the store. I walked around the corner to where they were standing, and they stopped talking, and one put on fake smile while the other looked like she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar. I asked if they were making fun of my weight and insinuating my shoes were developmentally disabled. I am a size 7 and my shoes matched my solid red shirt, (in neither an enabled or disabled fashion, whatever that is) not that it should make any difference. The two were like, oh no, not at all. Then one looked at the other and giggled, like a couple of mean girls in high school. I Immediately put the clothes back on the rack, and left a silent store, with my eyes welling over. If they were not talking about me, why would they stop talking entirely? What person is not sensitive about their weight? If a retail person wants to ignore the customer, that is their choice and does not bother me. What I cannot accept is ignorance, being lied to, or having jokes made about me. I could continue my rant, regarding the juvenile, insensitive use of the word retarded, or I could let my blood pressure lower. This place is not worth it. (By the way, the only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because I had one positive experience there months ago.) I will end this review with the fact that I will NEVER go back there. read more

My wife traveled out of the country to be with her mother. She left behind several dresses and outfits to be sold on consignment. Some were just decent everyday clothes, but some were valuable vintage clothes. She wanted to sell the everyday clothes at Katelyn's but unknown to me was saving the the vintage clothes to sell at a high-end vintage clothing store. She asked me to take the clothes to Katelyn's, which I did. I delivered all of them to Katelyn's. When I dropped off the clothes, I filled out the paperwork and left my wife's cell phone number, and my own. You know, like maybe I wanted to be contacted at both numbers if there was something that needed to be taken care of. Two weeks later, my wife called and wanted to know if I had gone back to Katelyn's to pick up the clothes that they were not going to sell for us. She had received a voicemail from them a couple days after I dropped off the clothes telling us we needed to come get the clothes they didn't want to sell and that they would donate the clothes if we didn't come to get them. This was in accordance with Katelyn's policy. My wife had not had cell service while traveling, and had not heard the voicemail until just then. I didn't know anything about the call because Katelyn's didn't call me. I called Katelyn's to see if they still had the clothes, but they did not, they had already been donated to Goodwill or something. So, because the staff at Katelyn's Closet didn't bother to call BOTH numbers that I left when I dropped off my consignment, they gave away several hundred dollars worth of clothing to a thrift store. I consider this to be lazy and irresponsible behavior on their part, and would not trust them with anything remotely valuable. read more

The sisters that own the shop care for everyone who walks through the door, and get to know people who often come in frequently. They have such a close relationship with the organization that they donate their items to, as well as treating their staff like family. They are exactly the kind of small business that we want to be supporting in times like this, we love you! read more

I had one of the best consignment shopping experiences here. So many children's clothes (gently used and fashionable0 for my kids to go through. It feels good when you go bargain shopping with your kids knowing they can get a bunch of stuff that they love for a reasonable price. The lady who helped us behind the counter was so gracious and we chatted about how great Portland is. The shop itself is well organized-you don't have to climb over things, push and pull though racks, or stress over finding your size in the item you LOVE. I snagged a Marc Jacobs designer shopping tote for 19 bucks and a cute fluttery, silk tank for 9. The sopping gods must have been out because we totally scored on some good finds here. read more

I've been consigning and shopping at Katelyn's Closet for years, but I had to write a review after my most recent experience. I took in some things to consign, and as usual, scanned the racks for any good deals. I couldn't believe my fortune - a like-new authentic Burberry waterproof trench AND a fabulous pair of Coach leather booties! After that I stopped looking because I didn't want to be tempted to buy more. The prices were outstanding - a fraction of what you'd pay for these items new. I walked out of the shop thinking "I'll never again shop retail before coming here first!" The shop has expanded over the last several years to include a larger selection of children's shoes and clothing as well as women's apparel and a small section for men. The racks are well-organized, tidy, and manageable - no snorkling through piles of fugly clothing to find a gem. As a consigner (consignee?), I've always been pleased. I think they give you 40% of the item's sale price - but I'd check with them on the rules to be sure. Good luck treasure-hunting (or selling)! read more

I buy most of my own clothes at Katelyn's Closet--and have also found a lot of shoes and children's apparel there too. I love wandering through, because I never know what I'm going to find. The best part is taking in a bag of items and receiving a credit slip, which I can spend right away! They are very selective in what they take, but that means that what they carry is usually in very good shape as well. read more

I took in about 50 items, all nearly new, good brands, and in great shape. About half were rejected with no reason. I got no type of inventory or pricing structure for the items they did accept. When I went back some weeks later to collect the items that didn't sell, half were mysteriously "missing," with no explanation or apology given. I finally found one on my own, a size 2 that they placed on the size 12 rack. No wonder it didn't sell. Don't think I'll be back, as there is little to no transparency about their process and I left feeling cheated, absolutely the worst feeling a business can engender. read more

Not sure what's up with all the negativity - I haven't had a bad experience here. It's a nice little shop, which in my mind is a good thing. They are pretty picky when it comes to what they will accept, so the goods they sell are pretty nice. Good brands in decent condition. Prices are pretty reasonable, and sometimes downright cheap. Everything we've bought there has been a steal! High chair, radio flyer trike, clothes, books - you name it. I haven't really perused the women's clothing cause I'm mostly there for the kid/baby stuff. As for selling, like I said - they are pretty picky. And I don't blame them. As tempted as I am to sell all my used baby "junk", I know I wouldn't want to buy it so I don't bother dropping it off. I usually call first for big items to ask if they will take it so I don't waste my time lugging things over there. As for the owner/s? I've talked with the 2 sisters personally, and they weren't rude to me. I mean, they aren't exactly glowing with personality but whatever - I need a business relationship, not a BFF. While their prices aren't as low as a thrift shop like goodwill, you can still save a lot of money by finding high quality, fashionable used clothes in good condition. The staff was friendly and accommodating. (I needed help w/my new phone to send a picture of a dress I was thinking of buying and did buy). That said, if you plan to buy children's books, read them first to eliminate books with torn pages or lame stories. Obviously the store doesn't judge the content of stories but I'm not happy to have purchased a book with torn pages. If I had read the books before purchase, I would have observed the torn pages and made a judgement regarding content. read more

If you are a busy person (who isnt these days), then I wouldn't bother coming here to consign your items. They have a strict policy (NO EXCEPTIONS!) of having to come in person to cash out what they have consigned for you within 3 months. It is hard to keeps tabs on and if you miss the deadline then you lose it all! A phone call or email would be so helpful but these folks seemingly want to take all your money. To top things off, if you happen to be in the store and have some money to cash out but is less than $20 then you're screwed too. They won't write a check for less than $20. No thank you. Their policies are all in their favor. I'll take my items elsewhere as there are other shops with more leniency. read more

This is by far the best thrift shop I've ever shopped in. As a mom of three girls, the selection is perfect for me and my family. They're highly selective about the items they take for consignment and this translates to high quality, high-end brands in stock. If you want to turn in your items for consignment, don't waste anyone's time with your overly worn items and we're all grateful for it! Their recent offering of household items is nice, but not why I shop here. I know it's hard to keep a small business fresh, but this just takes up space imho. read more

I've been to Katelyn's Closet over a handful of times in the past couple of years and have loved the quality & selection of women's clothes. I've never had any trouble finding anything that I want to wear. And, I've had a lot of success selling back clothes there as well. Despite that, I think they need to improve on their "Customer Care" experience. Last Sat. afternoon I dropped off a bag of (High-quality-to-me) clothes to be traded in, I asked the lady working the desk if it was ok if I picked it up Tuesday or Wednesday, since I can't make it back tomorrow (and I live 40 minutes away) and she said that was completely fine so I even wrote on the slip of paper-WILL PICK UP WED. NOV.7TH. And, something came up and so I couldn't make it out there on Wed. so I called them and asked if it was ok if I picked up my clothes Thursday instead, and the person who answered the phone said that was fine. So, I drove out there to pick up my bag of clothes but instead I got a $5 card for trade and they already donated all the clothes! THat is the rudest thing anyone could do. I was thinking about taking them to another consignment shop to see if I'd have any more luck, and I was planning on taking it to a "Naked Lady/Clothing Exchange" party tomorrow, and maybe there was an item in there that I would want to keep if they didn't buy it, I'd maybe hang onto it longer, but I don't have that option anymore! So, yeah I'm hurt that I my feelings & plans were disregarded. It would be one thing if I didn't specifically request initially that I won't be able to make it back within 24 hours, but I DID, and so it was definitely their fault on that one. I'll probably be back once my temper cools down a bit and spend my $5 of credit for the one item they purchased before dumping all the rest disrespectfully. read more

I gave them 20 items to sell and they only sold 3 of them and the lost like 4 items. Part of the reason my items didn't sell is that 5 items were pinned to the wall so people probably didn't know they could buy them. If you are not diligent about picking your stuff up, the last month, your items go to 50% off and you only earn 20% of the sales. They don't call you either so they send your stuff to a non-profit without any notice. They lost 4 of my items so I have no idea if it sold or was donated. I'm pissed off. They treat you like a turd. The owners are pretty nice and what they sell is good quality. That's the only reason why I gave them 2 stars. The young women that work there are rude beyond belief. I am never consigning with them ever again. read more

But I would encourage said owner to display a little more warmth and friendliness toward patrons. My friend has a one-year-old and was visiting from the East Coast. She called Katelyn's closet from CT and was able to get a crib delivered to my house for her visit. They arrived on time and assembled the crib quickly and then disassembled when they came to pick it up. I had gone to retrieve my clothes and only to find out that one of the items they had put someone else's tag on pants that were mine. Then they charged me for my item that they mis-tagged. In the end they would not give me back those jeans. The amount they gave me was short 6 dollars. read more

This is by far my favorite consignment shop. I have shopped and consigned here and other shops in town for about 10 years. The owners are picky about items they take but I like their selections. The kids and adult clothing are in good condition for a fair price. I really like that the selection goes from baby all the way to adult. It's worked well for my children as they've grown. For my 12 year old, I look in the kids section and the extra small women's. The owners are really friendly always greeting me when I walk in to the shop. read more

I really want to love this place, but it's not easy. I've brought in name brand stuff 4 or 5 times now...Patagonia, Nike, Loft, etc... and they either don't take it or they give me next to nothing for it. I'd feel better donating it than getting $3.00 for an $80.00 jacket. It's really confusing because they also sell their stuff for more than they should. I saw a Gap T-shirt for a toddler, for $15.00. Seriously? I shop a lot, so I have a pretty good idea of what clothing prices are, and they sell them for the same cost you would pay brand new a lot of times. Also, I bought a wool sweater and immediately noticed a hole in the elbow and 3 holes along the hem, while I was still standing at the counter, but they would not allow me to "return" it, since my credit card had already gone through, 5 seconds earlier. That is terrible customer service in my opinion. I understand they don't take returns, but I hadn't even left the store. read more

This store is just awful. I've tried to consign twice here. The first time I went in with two big bags of clothes and asked the lady at the desk how much they will accept at one time (since I didn't know). Another lady who works there looked horrified and immediately told me I couldn't bring so much in, and I was like yeah I figured that's why I just asked that exact question. They didn't take anything but left me with a note that I could barely read saying something along the lines of needing to organize my clothes better if they wanted them to even be looked at. When I picked up the clothes my bags were destroyed and knotted together. The next time I went there I made sure all the clothes were completely organized by type and folded (they were folded the first time, but not organized). They still took nothing (wasting my time). I have an infant, and it took me a long time to go through and organize those clothes, all for nothing. A lot of the clothes were expensive and high end. They didn't take anything. They didn't take anything this second time either. This store and the people who work here come off as very arrogant. I won't be attempting to consign here again. read more

I tried to consign at this store and had an awful experience! I had shoped there once or twice and it seemed like a decent establishment.. We made sure to call ahead of time to make sure they could take us. When we arrived a young sales clerk said we should leave our things and they would sort through them within the next day. We were not going to be able to pick them up the next day, and the following day was a holiday, so we confirmed that they would hold any items they would not be selling for us to pick up the day after the holiday. The sales clerk said it wouldn't be a problem and I watched her make a note of it. We came back the day after the holiday to get our things and the owner was there. She informed us that she did not choose any of our things to consign and she donated everything (several bags of clothes, baby equipment, large toys, etc)! My husband and I explained to her that we were told they would be held for us, and she told us we were lying and that no one in her store would ever say that is okay. She preceded to yell at us and show us all the piles of consignment clothes on the counter etc and ask where she should put everything! She eventually told us we could look for our things in the pile for donation in the back, and thankfully after sorting though several piles we found most of our things. The bags of clothes were still packed the same way I had packed them, so I don't believe she even looked at my items. There was another woman there who told me her things were also donated without warning. We took all our items down the street to Second to None, and they took about half our stuff and I made over $100. I will not return to Katelyns Closet. read more

I rented a crib from Katelyn's closet and was VERY PLEASED. The crib, bumper and sheet were clean and in good condition. Assembly was provided in my home and the shop representative was prompt and competent. The buy-back program is reasonably priced (in fact, at this writing, quite a bargain) and the service was extraordinary. read more

Very good consignment. I love their cleats and leotard sections. NEVER going to buy new cleats again. The thing that always makes me annoyed is their rule about no consignment on Tuesdays. It works for them, not the customer. Tuesdays is one of the few days I have to do errands so I end up lugging around my stuff to consign for weeks until I can fit it in on a different day. Their no Tuesday rule makes me feel unappreciated and makes me have a negative feeling about the company. Surely they can figure something else out. read more

I have been in a few consignment shops to complete my Honey-Do's. I have to admit I'm a bit taken aback by some of these comments, and I feel compelled to speak up for this establishment. There seems to be a common theme among the complaints, one of them being items being donated when they are not picked up by their owners. From what I hear the contract reads pretty clearly about what the policies are. The other complaint is about the service, attention, care of the customers, etc. Maybe someone had an off day, but I have never experienced it the few times I've been there. I've been greeted at the door, offered help finding things, and had no issues checking out. I never write reviews, but I just had to say that this is a small local business, and negative reviews can put some serious hurt on a business. I have a business myself, and I dread anyone not getting what they want or how they want it, and killing me in the reviews simply because that is their nature to blame others. This place is wonderful! I rented 2 carseats and booster seats for my grandson's visit. The owner Julie and helper Jette are amazing. So helpful! The items were clean and ready for my pickup. I very highly recommend this store for purchases and rentals. read more
