If only all professional service practices were like this one! Drs. Lauterbach and Torma are knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and caring. The word integrity springs to mind every time I think of them. We are all busy and pressed for time yet I gladly brave Chicago weather, construction, and a 45+ mile drive to continue seeing Dr. Lauterbach. And I'd drive even farther if that ever became necessary. I simply know of no other practice that offers the obvious skill along with the personal touch that is offered here. I worked at Dr. Lauterbach's practice for 12 years. During that time I was able to witness her first-rate dental work on every single patient she treats. Her approach to her patients' treatment is one of the most compassionate and ethical I have ever seen. As a result of the practice's incomparable reputation, it is a busy practice. However, I have seen how the entire office works to accommodate patients who have dental emergencies. She treats every patient as if it were a member of her family. Full disclosure: my review is directed at Dr. Lauterbach's front desk staff and not at the quality of dental care provided by Dr. Lauterbach. After multiple phone conversations with them regarding this matter, I ultimately decided Yelp is a fair place to warn other possible new patients, I'd be happy if it saves any other person the $360 I lost in my first visit. I had not seen a dentist since moving a while back, and this past October I was experiencing pretty severe pain in a wisdom tooth and went for my very first visit to Dr. Lauterbach's office to get it checked out and hopefully referred to someone who could remove it. On the phone scheduling my appointment, I asked specifically about my insurance coverage and they replied that, "yes, we definitely have patients with (your insurance) from (your company)." So I made the appointment, went in, filled out all of the first visit paperwork including my dental insurance information, and asked again if everything was good and the response was, "Yes." I saw Dr. Lauterbach, received a cleaning and they did x-rays to get a look at my problem wisdom tooth. Dr. Lauterbach gave me a referral to an oral surgeon for the tooth, I went to the desk before leaving and they said, "All set." I asked if there was anything to pay today and she said that if there was anything it would come from my insurance company. Ok, fine, I thought. I made an appointment at the oral surgeon, went in for the appointment, the first thing the front desk asks me for before they give me anything to fill out or even have me sit down is my insurance information. I give it to them, in about 20 seconds time, she is confused and says that according to her system I am out of network and would have to pay out of pocket. Her confusion leads her to calling Dr. Lauterbach's office and inquiring about my coverage status at her office, everything is fine according to them. The oral surgeon's office re-affirms to me that I would have to pay out of pocket up front for any services there, so I leave. So a short time thereafter, I receive a bill from my dental insurance company for $360 for an out of network cleaning and x-rays. I spoke with Dr. Lauterbach's office twice about the bill, the line I was given was exactly: "We expect our patients to know their insurance coverage." As far as I can tell, based on my visits to the first oral surgeon, subsequently another dentist and another subsequent oral surgeon, is that this is bad business to not verify coverage prior to providing services. Those other three visits could tell me right away the status of my coverage; the first oral surgeon alerted me that I wasn't covered immediately, the second dentist checked before seeing me as did the second oral surgeon's office I eventually visited. Either they (Dr. Lauterbach's office) truly do not ever check insurance for first time patients, or someone at the front desk made an error that day and the individuals I spoke to at Dr. Lauterbach's office on the phone were not willing to admit any fault of their own. So that brings me to now, leaving a 1-star review on Yelp and with $360 less of my own. read more

I actually look forward to my dentist appointments with Dr. Lauterbach, et al. This office is cozy, friendly, clean, and proficient. The staff has great humor, TVs in each patient area, free WiFi, and those old-fashioned water cup dispensers. Dr. Lauterbach herself is friendly and knowledgeable. I find her trustworthy and not in the business to create or find dental problems to fix. I pay premium dental insurance because I refuse to go anywhere else. read more

Even though I live 40 miles away from the office, it is definitely worth it the trip. Her dental office is up to date on all techniques; my former dentist was not. The waiting room is friendly and cosy, and they have an nice toys-and-books areas for waiting children, right next to where the dental chairs are, not shuttled off in some corner. For special procedures, such as root canals, she has a network of equally great professionals. Her office partner is also as good as she is, have gone to her when my doctor was on vacation. I have been blessed with cavity free teeth (knock on wood) so I can only review for my twice yearly cleanings. The staff is always friendly, and I have never had to wait overly long in the waiting room. Also, every exam room has a TV, so I can catch up on my daytime shows. The weird thing? I'd like to leave a review based on my experience with Dr. Pappas. There does not appear to be a page for her, or for this practice in general. Her dental assistant, Alex, deserves 5 stars. She was warm and kind and she cared about my needs. Best dental assistant I have ever come across, hands down. I have above average dental anxiety, and Dr. Pappas did her best to be kind, though my experience was less than ideal. She began with a dental exam, during which she commented, continuously and out loud, that I had "current" and "recurrent" cavities in all, or at the very least almost all, of my teeth. As the exam continued my level of panic became so intolerable that I thought I would have to get up and leave. She also told me after the exam was over that I had cavities in nearly all of my teeth. Following the appointment, I had one of the worst panic attacks I have experienced in years. I have since gone to a number of other practices to get more opinions on the state of my dental health. I have learned, beyond any doubt, that I do not in fact have cavities in almost all of my teeth. Dr. Pappas was correct that I needed intensive treatment to regain my dental health. As it turns out, I had several teeth that needed to be addressed, which I have learned from significantly less traumatic dental exams at other practices. Dr. Pappas did not need to invoke the level of panic that she did, as her end-of-the-world assessment was not wholly accurate. I'd recommend going elsewhere for less panic-inducing dental care. read more
