I really really like this practice. So many good things here: - it's easy to schedule and be seen regularly - insurance issues are handled promptly (if it even happens) - Dr is kind, open, and feels like they're on your side. Both Drs I've seen have been EXCELLENT - no pushy sales on cosmetic procedures - gentle handed hygienists Seriously, I've been here for 3 different 6mo cleanings and it's been excellent each time. Takes approx 1 hour. Before Northside I went to dentology west loop where they "found" 2 cavities on my first visit then told me I needed a root canal. After 18 mo of being a Northside patient, they've diagnosed 0 cavities and confirmed the "root canal worthy pain" was from poor tooth shaping from a cavity fill at dentology. I get regular X-rays with Northside Shout out to my hygienist Pam who is always kind, easy to talk to, lets me know what's going on, and makes the whole experience pleasant. read more

Usually have great care but today was very disturbed by a hygienist named Gigi who didn't wear her mask pulled over her nose while inches from my face and didn't have her extremely long hair tied back adequately. I was there for over 2 hours and she never once wore her mask properly. She seemed new and it kind of disturbed me that no one explained to her proper hygiene practices in health care situations. It's kinda gross to see a strangers face a few inches from yours and be able to see clear up her nostrils. I'll come back, but hope they improve hygiene practices. read more

I have been going here for a few years and over time have noticed the practice getting worse. One time they completely missed a problem I discussed with them. Another time I asked about a bi-annoual cleaning and mentioned I don't have insurance so would pay out of pocket - and all of a sudden I was dismissed as if I did not matter. The last time they were kind enough to share with me information regarding getting better insurance rates without insurance which I asked about setting up when I had the work at the office and was told no only to be told by the program I could and should have been told that. It wasn't the money saving that bothered me, it was the lack of listening to understand what I was asking. I should of known when I called for the appointment days before I told the person I was a current patient and asked me three separate times if I was a current patient. I trusted this would be the place to do my well needed dental service here. I made an appointment here in May to start my dental journey. I was seen by Dr.Jaamour for X-rays and was told I needed a root canal on my 2 left back teeth. Also I needed fillings on both my upper and lower teeth First thing I noticed about this office is every one at the front desk seemed very nice. I was seen by Dr.Jaamour who seemed pretty awesome she recommended me to go get a root canal and after that we can start your treatment plan. Now it's a week or so later after my root canal and I'm back. Dr.Jaamour proceeds to get me now set up for my new crowns she hammers on my to back teeth getting them ready for my new crowns everything seemed to go ok. I must warn you the one thing that I thought was strange is the dentist work on you then run out and leave you with the techs. I'll get more into this process later. So now here we are she's prepped my to back teeth for my new crowns. The dental assistant now does impressions of my newly worked on back teeth she does a mold for my crowns and temps on my back teeth until my crowns come back from the lab. Ok I've got the temps on my back teeth and they just don't feel right but I guess this is how they are supposed to be very uncomfortable. A week goes by and no crowns back so we start the fillings of my other teeth. I Dr Jaamour tells me I need a filling in a tooth next to the first crown. I need to tell you there was never and issue for me. I had an old filling there and that tooth never bothered me but I trusted Dr Jin was making the right decision for me. Dr Jaamour then stated you also need a filling on the upper tooth as well So now I need the 2 crowns 1 upper 1 lower filing all on the left side. So I complete the fillings on the left side while waiting for my crowns to come back. After about less than 2 weeks I get a call saying your crowns are back. I was so happy because the temps were horrible in my mouth and I couldn't eat a thing. So I come in excited to finally close this chapter and get my new crowns cemented in place. I get prepped by the dental assistant who removed my terrible fitting temporary teeth in the back to get me ready for my new crowns. Dr.Jin arrives and asked for my new crowns .Dr Jin proceeds to put in crown 18 and 19 she's struggling to get them in place. Dr Jaamour then asks how do they feel. I tell Dr Jaamour they feel strange and extremely uncomfortable. Dr Jaamour then starts filling on them trying to make them fit and they just don't fit. Dr Jin then advises me that sometimes the labs make mistakes and it could be a new person and maybe they couldn't see the margin on where the crowns should be positioned. Well this just made me more anxious than ever. She then takes more X-rays and states she's going to put a rush on them to get them back sooner. I then tell her my bite is off from the filling s on the left side and she begins filling away at the fillings to try to get my bite better. I leave filling hopeless after waiting all this time for crowns and they don't fit. Now in the next following week Dr Jaamour now works on the right lower tooth. Dr. Jaamour tells me this is a deep filling she takes a lot of longer and proceeds with the other fillings later in weeks again I trusted Dr. Jaamour was making the right decision for my overall health care. Dr. Jaamour completed the filling and I was told we will get in touch with you when your crowns get in. First set didn't fit so she sent them back to the lab. The next set didn't fit she stated I needed crown lengthening. But she was going to put them in and I should be ok since I could not have this procedure since I was getting surgery in 3 weeks. Well I continued to have pain where the fillings were and pain where the crowns were. I need a second operation so I got one. I found a very reputable dentist who saw me right away. He did a 2 hour consultation on my teeth and checked the crowns and all my teeth only to tell me my upper back natural teeth had been filled and my fillings needed to redone but what was alarming is the crowns were just bad. He showed me them on the X-ray he had taken a pointed out spacing and poor craftsmanship of the crowns. I started to cry because in my heart was feeling something wasn't right all the long. I'm now out of 3000 dollars and having to remove these crowns and getting better fillings on my teeth. I will keep posted I have started a 3 page in detail letter to the Dental Review board on my experience and what pain it has caused me mentally and financially and I hope this never happens to anyone else. read more

Saw great reviews of this place and though I wasn't crazy about the hygienist's bedside manner but I thought the dentist seemed great. Unfortunately, I feel a bit deceived. When I booked my appointment, I asked if they took my insurance. The office then asked me to scan my insurance card to make sure it was all good. They didn't seem to have any problems with it so I thought I was good to go. Now I've been hit with a bill saying they are actually premier option that my dental plan does not fully cover. I had a basic cleaning and x-rays. I called about the bill and they are saying I'm stuck with it and there is nothing they can't do anything reduce the burden. And they said sometimes they don't know about these situations until they happen. I've never had to pay for a cleaning and x-rays with dental insurance before. So visit at your own risk, because even if you think you do due diligence you could be stuck with a bill. read more

Had been going to Northside Dental for years and was always satisfied with the care. But after my cleaning this fall, I was billed the full cost of cleaning and exam, and when I followed up to see why my insurance did not cover my visit as it always has, I was told that they no longer accepted my insurance. Administration told me that an email was sent to notify me, but I never received one. After much back and forth trying to get proof that they notified me of this change and my balance eliminated, I reached a dead end. The administrative manager was so unhelpful and would not accept responsibility for an error on their end. Truly horrible. Let me begin by saying that if you want someone to damage one of your front teeth during a routine cleaning, this may be the place for you. And it gets worse. After the cleaning, I was not given a mirror to look at my teeth, so I did not notice the chip the hygienist had caused to my front tooth until I got home. I could tell she was being too rough during the cleaning, but when I raised my hand to communicate discomfort, she scolded me to stop moving, and for some reason, I didn't listen to my gut and call the whole thing to a halt. (Always listen to your gut.) I was actually very nice about the mishap, because I had a major professional event that week, and all I wanted was for the chip to be filed down in time for one of the most important days of my career. I went in for the second visit, and when I checked in at the payment desk afterward, they told me I was all set (just as they had after the cleaning, since that visit should have been covered by my insurance). To me, this communicated regret for the damage they had caused, and I was willing to leave it at that. Fast forward a few weeks, and I get a bill for both visits, no insurance coverage. $172. I was livid, so my husband called to inquire about the bill (I was afraid I might lose my temper). They informed him that we had received an email saying that our insurance was now out of network. He insisted that even if this was the case, I should not have been charged for a visit where they were mitigating the damage they had done to my tooth. They said someone would call back. In the meantime, we looked up the email that supposedly informed us we were now out of network. That email read as follows: "When our direct contract terminates with UHC on January 18, it will take anywhere from 30-90 days for the systems to align and have us back In-Network with UHC through our Third Party Administrator. For the brief period of time that we are out-of-network, 95% of patients will see no effect on their coverage in our office. For example, Preventative services should continue to be covered at 100%, whereas Basic services will continue to be covered at 80%. However, in the instance that your coverage has changed, we will issue a Loyalty Credit on your account to make it right so that your out-of-pocket expenses do not exceed what they would be if we were in-network through the Third Party Administrator during that time." My appointment was in May, by the way. So we had received an email assuring us we would have no issues with our coverage, and the person on the phone tried to claim the reverse. In a followup call, they offered to reduce the charges to $80. The woman on the phone falsely claimed that this would have been our share of the cleaning, even if our coverage applied -- another lie, but this time they managed to trick my husband into believing it (I clearly will not be avoiding any phone calls to spare anyone my anger in the future) and he agreed to the reduced bill. So I am paying $80 for the privilege of having my tooth chipped, and for a below average cleaning job, despite a written promise from Northside Dental that preventative care would be 100% covered. I am more furious about this than I can possibly convey here. These people cannot be trusted with your care or with your billing. IMO, getting any service here is a big risk and a huge mistake. If I could have somehow given them negative stars, I would have. read more

Very, very unfortunate incident with this office. Though they list Delta Dental on their website as an accepted insurance provider, and though they took my PPO card information at the time I called to schedule with them as a new patient, it wasn't until I was billed $180 a few weeks later that they revealed they accept only "Premier" insurance packages from Delta. I discussed this lack of transparency and abysmal communication with several members of office staff as well as the office manager--who freely agreed that they were in error and I'd "slipped through the cracks"--yet I wasn't let off the hook for the bill. The lack of integrity, lazy record-checking, and reluctance to make right their mistakes is next level with this place. I've never had a cavity, never missed a 6-month cleaning in my life, and have never had my insurance not accepted at 100%.....thanks a lot for the random bill, Northside. read more

To be clear this review is about insurance and not from actual dental work from Northside dental. Northside Dental had been recommended by a previous dentist I had. I called them in November 2024 about an appointment. I found out that they didn't take my dental insurance but from their website I found that they did take Delta Dental insurance. So I switch my insurance so I could go to Northside Dental. Three month later I have my insurance lined up and make an appointment. Shortly after my appointment I get a call that they don't take my insuance. I express my shock since thier website states that they do take Delta dental, to which they reply yes they do but not the kind I have. Needless to say this has left me pretty frustrated with Northside Dental. At best their website is misleading. I've been meaning to write this review for over a year. This dental practice is by far the best I've ever encountered, and I have been to many. Due to my extremely crappy teeth and many fillings when I was young, I've had multiple root canals, crowns, and two implants. Since I moved to Chicago about 12 years ago, I have gone to 4 different dentists -- I could enumerate the various problems I had with them from poor office management/billing, dirty cramped exam rooms, scheduling me with a different dentist without telling me, not warning me about the severity of a procedure or what to expect, and everything in between. I have also visited several more offices in my search for the right dentist for me. Dr. Agran kindly explains options, has great assistants, great front desk staff, current technology, great in-house periodontist. Lucky for me it's also within biking distance of my house, but even if I moved to the other side of the city, I would make the trip. It's so great to finally have a dentist that I look forward to seeing (well, mostly!). read more

I always have excellent service in a timely manner. The whole staff is friendly and helpful! The office manager Bernadette is always helpful with resolving any billing issues. All the Dentists including Dr. Agran is very knowledgeable Providing recommendations that would improve my teeth if there are any issues. Scheduling is easy and they provide reminders and call if your on a waiting list with other dates. I always leave smiling showing off my healthy and clean teeth! They do a superb job cleaning my teeth! The environment is pristine with air purifiers, clean waiting room and top of the line dental machines and tools! I don't ever write yelp reviews but I feel compelled to in this case. Let me start by saying before I moved to Chicago I'd seen the same dentist my entire life (almost 30 years.) I'd never seen another dentist and was worried about going someplace new. Northside Dental exceeded all my expectations. From the person you checks you in, to the dental assistant, to the dentist-everybody is wonderful. They're friendly, provide great information. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment. Excellent care all around. Friendly, professional, clean, efficient, and make you feel comfortable the entire visit. The staff and assistants are all very warm and professional and the new location is very Zen like. Important for patients who may have certain anxieties, you just get a spa like feeling here. About a year and a half ago my dentist passed away so I came to Yelp in search of a new dentist and noticed Northside Dental. I scheduled an appointment and made my way for my check up. The office is very nice and I received a proper cleaning from a very pleasant hygienist. As a new patient they took x-rays and after the hygienist was complete, the dentist came in and informed me I had a cavity between two of my teeth. I'm a bit nuts about my oral hygiene and haven't had a cavity in over 20 years. I have three fillings from a dentist I went to one time in college in 1993 and I have always wondered if they were real, or if the dentist was looking to charge my parents/insurance company. I've never had a filling since. So I declined the filling and made another cleaning appointment immediately at another neighborhood dentist. This dentist took x-rays too and said I didn't have a cavity (I didn't mention my recent visit to Northside and just paid out of pocket.) I let 6 months go by and returned to this other dentist for a regular cleaning. Still no cavity. To me, I feel like this cavity doesn't exist and this office was looking for an inflated insurance billing. Just my opinion. read more

I was a couple months before my next cleaning when the pandemic hit. Between Covid worries and not wanting to find a new dentist (my previous Loop dentist was super inconvenient to me now), I ended up letting it go for way too long. 1.5 years later I knew i needed to get this taken care of. I found Northside Dental. The reviews were good, and it was very close to me. I was nervous but from the moment I walked in they put me at ease. Everyone was wonderful, from the front desk staff, the hygienists, and the doctors. They were calm, attentive, considerate and efficient. I couldn't be happier. Northside dental is my dentist now. Significant out of pocket to receive xrays with extensive future treatment plan for work which may not be needed; no resolution whatsoever for the issue I came in for which was causing significant pain. Did not feel heard; was told it was "referred pain" from a different tooth and sent to an endodontist at great expense (and it was NOT referred pain, but what I said in the first place). Went back to Dr. Agran, whose office believes you can only do this work slowly over a number of visits. Went to a third dentist (a relative - by the Wisconsin border - 2 hour drive) who resolved the problem in one visit and said the problem obvious. If you love this office, bless you - but my experience was pretty terrible. read more

Northside Dental is the absolute BEST. I'm in my 70's and of course, have had many dentists and procedures throughout the years. This dental office: The Staff, availability to schedule appointments, and clearly set to make their patient's visit easy, is awesome. Dr. Jin gets my "Lifetime" Award for making me (a former terrified to visit a dentist) comfortable, and actually relaxed during my visit. She is clearly beyond competent, kind and patient. I cannot shout my praises loud enough for this dentist. I have been going here three years and my most recent visit confirms how truly caring (did you ever think you'd hear that about a dentist) and patient they are. I experience some dental anxiety especially if I need to have work done. Dr. Najwa Jaamour and her assistant Diane, talked me through, were patient with me, answered every question and took care of me as though I were family. I even tried to leave at one point, at which they said, was totally fine but they wanted to make sure I calm before I left. I unfortunately didn't care for this office very much. Their reception is not very knowledgeable about insurance. I've been told several times to do legwork that is always the doctors office job such as looking at benefits. I can obviously research my benefits package as I have done before. But one time I told them my X-rays were covered and after I was serviced they still wanted $89 from me even though I knew we were covered. The next day they called me to come pick up a refund in the form of a check even though I had paid cash less than 24 hrs earlier. It was very disheartening that they would charge me just because they weren't sure. At that point I decided I would no longer use them as my dental office. The atmosphere is not very pleasant, it's clean but very small. Bernadette, one receptionist, is just not that cordial I guess. And the drs seem nice but overall I am just not interested in this office anymore. The phone acumen and in person interactions match, underwhelming, attitude-y, and uninformed. My husband felt the same way so we obviously had to to switch dental care providers. read more

Had my teeth whitened here and the technician was so incredible. She was very considerate and stayed with me the entire time making sure I was feeling okay and nothing was too uncomfortable. OMG guys, I love this dental office! To start off, I haven't been to the dentist in years. I'm quite embarrassed by that, to be honest. I have a deep fear of it and I gag easily and ugh I just hate it. So because of that, I was really worried about going in but a filling had fallen out and I HAD to go. Well, had I known that this was going to be the type of help I'd get when going, I would be going all the time! The staff there are so kind, they explained everything to me from beginning to end. I did start gagging right away but they put me at ease real fast and I was able to relax and calm down. Obviously, there was a bit of pain but they stopped if it was getting to be too much. I feel like the prices are reasonable considering all the things I need done, but again, they went through the list of things I need done in detail. We have a plan set and I'm actually kinda excited to go back and get my smile back! read more

The only reason I'm giving a 2-star rating instead of 1-star is because Dr. Agran and the dental hygienist I had were very pleasant and professional. However, the front desk staff is horrible and the communication in the office is lacking, and because of that, I will not be back. As a first-time patient, I got a call at 6pm the night before my 7am appointment saying that they needed me to get my x-rays from my previous dentist--no apology for the last-minute request; just a message of "we're gonna need you to do this". I wasn't thrilled, but I let it slide. Upon arriving at the office, my general sense is that the front desk has a lot of attitude, especially one woman who checked me in and seemed to manage billing. I'd call it a "fake-nice" facade that anyone with an ounce of emotional intelligence can see right through. My dental hygienist was great, and Dr. Agran was personable and informative. The only complaint I have about my experience with him was around communication. We discussed my recession issues and he said that the Periodontist was in the office and could stop in to take a look. There wasn't any mention of this being an extra fee, and the way the conversation took place, I didn't even think to ask if I'd be charged extra for the Periodontist consultation. Then, when I get up to the front desk to check out, I was informed that I'd be charged for a Periodontist consultation. In my opinion, the Dr. should have explicitly stated that seeing the Periodontist would be an extra fee. I told the front desk that no one informed me I'd be charged for the Periodontist consultation, and again, was met with attitude from the most unpleasant woman behind the desk. She said that she would submit it to my insurance and didn't make me pay the co-pay right away (redeeming herself a little bit), but then threw attitude back at me again by saying "but he DID do a consultation. These people just don't get it--customer service means making people feel good about spending money with them. I would not recommend this office to anyone. read more

I had been a patient at Northside Dental for a few years. The dental hygienists are not very thorough with the cleanings and the dentists themselves only pop their heads in when they do their final exam. I was having terrible front tooth pain a few years back and I went to see one of the dentists- it was a man but I don't recall his name. He examined me for one minute and told me I needed a periodontist and a gum graft because my front gums were eroded. No one at the office had ever mentioned my gums! I was so confused that this is a disease that builds up over many years and I was just learning this now. In the end they slapped me with a huge bill to see that dentist for my one minute consultation because my insurance would not pay for it. I never went back and would never recommend them to anyone. I had a gum graft with a periodontist that is not affiliated with them and now I see a dentist who actually looks at my mouth. read more

The team at Northside Dental put me at ease. Dr. Brent was very gentle and understanding. He checked in with me often. His assistant, Diane, was a comforting presence. She helped to put me at ease. I was definitely a scary cat when it comes to dentist offices and it did not help after having a bad injection experience at my previous dentist office when my facial nerve was touched and flare up. I absolutely despise going to the dentist, however from the time I first spoke to them on the phone, to the time I left after having work done the staff was nothing short of amazing. I really love this dental office. Everyone at the office is extremely helpful and friendly. I am extremely satisfied with the doctor and their work. I would say they are a bit pricey and don't have too many payment options but the willingness of them trying to make it work for us, helps. I am thankful that they are great with children especially Adriana. I'm always so happy to see her.
