I am basing my review for the most part on the unfriendly and almost rude young lady who waited on me today and that's a shame. I told her that I drive by there all the time and the place looked so nice that I had been wanting to stop in for a long time. Parking is not always easy in that busy street. Today I saw a spot across the street, had a quarter handy, and went inside. Telling her that I had come in especially because it looked so nice got no response from her at all. No smile, no thank you, nothing. She headed toward the cashier's counter at the back saying they had a take-out menu, handed it to me and went about her business. I looked at the menu for a minute and saw 'Bombay Chicken Salad'. I like that Indian flavoring in chicken salad so told her I wanted to order it. She took the order. I stood and waited for the order while I looked around the place and checked out the other items on the menu, which look very interesting. When my order was ready, she gave it to me and took my money, still no interaction, no smile, nothing. She handed me my little bit of change without saying thank you, cracking a smile or even making eye contact. I thought her behavior was brusque to the point of rudeness, especially when I was a customer who said they had come in because they had often seen the place and thought it looked so nice. This was an opportunity for an employee to be gracious and make a really nice first impression on a new customer. The place had customers at some of the tables but it was by no means full, not that being busy would be an excuse for her behavior. There is no excuse for rudeness. She just simply couldn't be bothered. The chicken salad is too sweet with not enough curry and the consistency is a little strange. It was a little gloppy. Someone didn't cut the chicken up very well before they made the salad. Lots of fruit and raw vegetables around the sides of the large container. The place is pricey and one hopes the other items on the menu would be better than the chicken salad. I have no problem with pricey for really good food. It's really nice inside with the walls lined with shelves full of tons of cute and interesting looking tea pots, along with other really nice touches all over the place. They also sell what appears to be a huge selection of teas. All the customers were ladies having lunch. It is obviously a popular spot with a certain crowd. I might be willing to come back and try something else on the menu, especially one of the desserts but after encountering that rude waitress I'm not sure. read more

Kathleen's tea room is quite the drive for me (Bronx to Peekskill)... But it's so worth it. The atmosphere is perfect for a group of girls wanting to catch up.. sit and have the "Afternoon Tea" (one order feeds three people max (this consist of three tiers mixed with small sandwiches, fruits, veggies and a scone along with your pick of tea) - but we have to get the delicious "mixed berry shortcake" to really fill up on tasty treats). There are a lot of other things on the menu but it is pretty pricy so I wouldn't come here for a full meal but more for the snacks and to enjoy a girls day out for brunch or late snacks. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And the presentation of the food is always appealing to the eyes. I'll be back soon enough! read more

This was my first time at Kathleen's Tea Room. We came for my sisters birthday and we were running late. Once we got there we were seated immediately with no issue. We were seated in the window, literally. There are three small steps that lead to a super cute table with four seats, two. lounge chairs and two regular, placed right in the window front of the tea room. Great for selfie lighting and pictures overall. The staff was nothing short of sweet and attentive. I ordered the warm croissant with fruit, butter and jam (AMAZING), a 2 cup of the Crème Earl Gray tea, the combination soup, salad and half sandwich, and for dessert the apple crisp. With the combination plate came the soup of the day which was Butternut Squash, a house salad with olives, caper berries, beets, the works, and a half roast beef sandwich on a club roll with horseradish sauce. Needless to say my plate was C L E A N. The Apple crisp was good but because I'm not fond of a lot of nutmeg, the nutmeg taste was overwhelming for me. I took my wife who loves tea. The place was really nice and small. Decor was cool with a lot of old pictures, tea pots, books, and tea making devices to look at. My wife had the afternoon tea tower and I ordered the special quiche of the day. To be honest I ordered the quiche to avoid the 5 dollar plate charge if you try to share the afternoon tea tower with your wife. The quiche was excellent and my wife really enjoyed the three plate tower. My wife could not eat the whole thing herself. It featured a scone, a crumpet, tea sandwiches, fruit, and petite deserts. My godmother introduced me to this lovely place - I like the mismatched china and that the teapots serving as decoration are also for sale. They have a huge selection of teas. The only downside is the place has an odd smell in the air all the time, not sure if it's aromas from all the different teas mixing or something else entirely. Love this place. Having recently moved from London I was looking for a cute afternoon tea place. The service was excellent and as a first time customer I was given a few different loose leaf teas to take home. My husband and I ordered an afternoon tea with a pot of English breakfast tea. The scones were large, warm and absolutely delicious. We met the owner after and she told us they were freshly made. Very impressed. The sandwiches and cakes selection was lovely as well. I am now in love. Strangely enough, it is only recently that I discovered Kathleen's Tea Room and now I cannot get enough. If nothing else, the variety of teas is staggering and the scones are to die for. I would go for the scones alone, but the food is amazing as well. I had no idea they had a full menu of food; soups, salads, hearty sandwiches and a salmon salad plate that I LOVED. The soups are home made, thick and filling, so beware that you don't fill up so much you cannot squeeze in a scone. The place is cozy, comfortable, eclectic, decorated with tea things everywhere and has a warm and relaxed feel. You would expect it to be a place for ladies who lunch, and I'm sure that is their mainstay, but I dragged my husband along, and he enjoyed it as much as I did, although he left stuffed, which is almost unheard of for him. There were other men who ventured in as well, and lived to tell the tale. Service is pleasant and efficient, but things are made to order so don't expect a quick or rushed visit. It is filled with charm and character and individuality. An unequivocally unique spot, it is truly one not to be missed for lunch or an afternoon tea. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
