My favorites so far (which is every one I have tried) are Chili Crisp Turkey, Das Han's (Ham)Met, Falafeeling This, Blooming Onion Roast Beef and the special (which rotates regularly) - this one is the Brazilian Fried Chicken. Triple B. I had heard, with my ears and through the grapiest of vines, many good things about Benny and his Brown Bag. Compliments. Praises. Moans. You name it, all positive. And so when I hear so many hearings of such detail, and read so many readings with such info... it becomes a Yelp Elite's journey... no, destiny... no, civil duty to check in on said rumors. For often, rumors are spread by fools and accepted by idiots. But on a rarity? On a rarity... facts can be misleading while rumors, true or false, are often revealing. I shall carry on, unencumbered and cucumbered. I don't know much about Benny. I saw and felt the brown bag, but didn't get too familiar with it either. And why's that? That's because upon entrance to my vehicle (once a lease now owned, whatever) I smelt what was inside the bag. I kindly asked the bag to cover up the smell, of which it couldn't do. Therefore, I viciously removed the brown bag in one swift swipe. Maybe a rip. Potentially a tear... in order to lay eyes on the prize inside. Situated within a blue checkered wrapping, my nails continued to claw until my bleeding eyes and howler of a nose got what they requested. Sight on the sitch. The Foxchocker, chicken sandwich. I'm a substance guy. I need that chicken on my sandwiches. Famous fried chicken? Don't mind if I dadadadadoooooo. Bacon. Meunster mash cheese, jalapeños, a saucity sauce on a long ciabatta? Listen. I'm an easy guy. Super loose. I don't need much convincing. You say those words to me and my mouth begins to water immediately. You can take me home with that kinda talk. Don't test me. I'm street smart, not book smart... let me cook. So again, just read those ingredients... i knew that if that chicken was marinated right and if that sauce was saucing that we could be in for a mouth concert. A concert of the mouth. The tongue in cheek and teeth in esophagus. The good stuff. And let me tell you. This was GOOD STUFF. Great stuff. Phenom stuff. The chicken was seasoned and marinated to perfection. It was juicy. It was substantial. The sauce was diabolical by nature but caring in the way it caressed my taste buds. The long ciabatta was soft and played wonderfully in sync with the crisp of the crispiest of bacons. The jalapeño provided a necessary kick that was amplified by the monster meunster cheese. Each bite was a new magical moment. I was eating and driving. No mitts on the circular controlling device, Jesus took the wheel and safely got me home. Mamma Mia was this thing good. Batter my shorts and call me tortellini, I was impressed! Nearly put in shock while off-the-clock (Happy MLK Day.) The outside appearance of the de facto deli puts ya to sleep. The courteous and kind staff wakes you up. And this Fox Catcher Sandy makes you feel like you're at a rave. Head banging and tongue tangling, what a time to be alive. Now were the rumors just that, rumors? I say not. I say the Hot Goss out of LB's mouth was that you GOTTTA go here. That delightful of a dive. I'd make the detour once over. Delicious sandwiches at a counter service spot in Peekskill. Sandwiches are creative takes of classic deli sandwiches. The bread was super fresh and the fillings were of good quality. We had the chili crisp turkey which may have been the best turkey sandwich I've had in a while. Very cute spot as well, they sell lots of snacks and similar foods out front, but there isn't a ton of seating. Not typical sandwich place with an awesome theme to it, got love the 90s theme, brings me back to my childhood really. Got das has hammer sandwich and got say it was most unique sandwich ever had, I mean the usual ham and cheese with a twist, curry cream cheese to which I was sort of mixed on, it the flavor did downplay the other fillings, chips in sandwiches never hurt for a extra crunch and plenty of lettuce and tomatoes to refresh. Plus sandwich is pretty filling and easily makes two meals. Took the ride from the other side up to see what this spot was all about. I wish I lived closer.... The vibe is super chill. The entire operation appears to be run with a real love for what they do. They had some unique snacks and drinks available to buy in addition to what they make onsite. We got 2 sandwiches and a side of Mac Salad. Bear Mountain Hot Roast Beef Sandwich for $15.00 and the Das Hans (Ham)mer Sandiwch for $14.50. Both were very good. The Bear Mountain had a really nice horseradish kick. And the Hammer was a really yummy ham sandwich. Both were Wedge/Hero sized and definitely could feed 2 especially along with the side of Mac Salad. The ONLY thing I don't love is there's no place to sit and eat. So we couldn't take advantage of getting one of their tempting beers. You won't be disappointed with fresh tender turkey between crispy on the outside lightly toasted bread and seasoned with that chili crisp mayo , pickled onions and arugula. It's a complimenting combo of sweet and savory with just the right of heat from the chili crisp. If you don't know what chili crisp is : it's not meat chili that some may think. It's a Szechuan condiment made with ground peppers , oil and Szechuan peppercorns and other spices. My nephew had the bacon grilled cheese and he devoured it. We also had the mac salad. It tastes like homemade style and you should try it. For 3.50 you get enough for 2 sides easily. The place has no seating but it's a fun place to just look around at the plethora of chips, beers and soft drinks while your food is being made. The folks there are super cool. Anyway, I'm in a committed relationship with their "Turkey Chili Crisp", but have definitely had a few flings with their flavor of the week like I'm Michael Kelso himself, I also suggest the "Chimi Chimi Ya Roast Beef". The variety of drink options here should be worshipped, their snack selection is an eclectic hot mess and they always really make an effort to cater to the customer. They're open 11-5pm except Sundays (till 4) & Tuesdays (and until recently Mondays too) like it's a child's lemonade stand, although once you get over that I promise you this place will be home to one of your favorite sandwiches in Westchester. Our first visit was this past Sunday(father's day 2024) and was recommended 2 different sandwiches by the staff, Chimi Ya and Thai fried chicken and both delivered great flavors and texture. I've never had to wait long, and I love that they have vegan and vegetarian options that are creative and super flavorful. Also the best macaroni salad I've ever had. One of the things that we are blessed with here in Westchester are really good delis. Almost every town seems to have at least one that's good and some are downright excellent. But great delis are different from great sandwich joints. A lot of ingredients are common to almost any deli in Westchester. Bread from Yonkers, Portchester or the Bronx...sandwich meat largely from Boar's Head. And they do wonders with them. But great sandwich joints often make magic from different stuff. I haven't made the slightest dent in the number of good delis in Westchester, but I've been to most of the great sandwich joints. Think Mason, Melt, The Sandwich Spot, The Little Cabin(s). I'd even count Dante's among them, though you could certainly argue for them as an Italian deli, but I think they're more than that. I've had great lunches from all of these places. My favorite sandwich joint in Westchester is Benny's Brown Bag in Peekskill. I wouldn't say I'm quite a regular but...not to brag... I did recently earn my 10th punch on their loyalty card, entitling me to a free sandwich and an upgrade to first class on any airline flight within the continental US. Their menu is not massive, but it is curated. Everything I've tried has been a balanced mixture of tastes and textures. The Thai Chicken and the Turkey Chili Crisp are standouts. They do weekly specials which you should absolutely try. The owners are enthusiastic and friendly. Great folks. The only thing that would make the place even better would be some outdoor seating, but that's on the town...not them. I usually snag our sandwiches and make a beeline for the river or a nearby park to demolish them at our leisure. I'm usually pretty stuffed after a sandwich...but their banana pudding is worth leaving a little room for. Or, maybe save it for later. I recommend the place highly. read more
