Kathmandu is a casual Nepalese/Indian restaurant with curries, biryani, momos, and more! They stopped having their lunch buffet after the pandemic. I really enjoyed their pork momos and chicken korma! The saag paneer was quite watery, so I wouldn't go for that again. Their naan is on the thicker side, but it was well toasted. The food here was excellent!! We got several things: spicy chicken momos, momos in soup, goat biryani, and the dal makhani. I think the momos in the soup were definitely the star of the show. The broth was excellent and the momos are overall super tasty! The dal makhani was a little on the bland side but a little salt brought out the flavors. I'd rather not salty enough than too salty! I'd hoped we found a new hole in the wall near us which was rough around the edges but had good food. For her the ambience and service was as bad as I described, but the food was bad. Only downfall are two things- cleanliness could be better- tables, menus floors were very sticky. 2- they do NOT label food for allergens- found out the hard way that some of our food had ground nuts in the sauce. My girlfriend and I go out every other Monday for lunch and I chose this place to try. I arrived before she did so I went in to check it out. I glanced around the room noticing stacks of boxes, messy tables and nobody to greet me or offer me a table. After I was sure I was noticed and still not acknowledged, I just turned and walked out. We tried the wai wai appetizer (uncooked noodles with onions/tomatoes) lamb burry dinner plate with assorted lentils and veggies (best dish) , chicken chowmein (very good) and veggie thukpa (the least favorite, very tomato heavy) Everything was spicy even for 5 on 10. Walked into a totally empty open area. There are zero electrical plates- the outlets are all uncovered. The Momo soup was ok, we ordered something with potatos and black eyed peas that were under seasoned but at least hot. The rice was room temperature which greatly concerns me because 1) the 75 health score that I didn't know about until after I was already eating, and 2) rice can make you SO sick if left at room temperature too long. I guess l will wait and see if I get sick.... Also there were ants in the salt shaker and someone had used the bathroom and didn't flush. And there was no soap anywhere to wash hands. The heyday is over! This used to be my go-to place for Nepali cuisine, even if there was an occasional cockroach scampering on the wall. Before, it was a bargain, and the flavors were awesome! During the pandemic, as expected, prices went up, and they cut out some of my favorites, like the keema nan. Still, I craved their food. Now, the cooking has really gone downhill, and I cannot pretend anymore that hygiene is not an issue. I ordered garlic naan ($3.99), samosa chaat ($6.99), and chicken momo ($9.99) for dine in. Unlike before, all booths were detached from the wall by a foot. At first, I couldn't figure out why. While waiting for the food, a huge mangy rat darted out from the dark gnat infested bathroom area, scurried towards the dining room, then took cover in the bar. Next, the cook came out in his soiled apron all disheveled, dripping with sweat, and shedding hairs. Alarmed, I demanded to see the health inspection score. The cashier pulled the certificate that was obscured behind a poster. This place scored a "C" (72 out of 100)! He claimed that their staff were going to mitigate the health violations within a couple of days and blamed the landlord for not adequately dealing with the rats. I was thoroughly grossed out by the vermin and at the thought of the cook excreting new flavors into my food through his stench and body secretions. At this point I should have abandoned my order or sought a refund but slogged on. Suddenly, the sound of rodents squeaking and scuffling emerged from the attic above. I looked at the server, he looked back at me and nonchalantly muttered, "Yeah...we know about it," as if this was an unremarkable everyday occurrence. He also shifted responsibility to the landlord. It became obvious that the management moved the booths away from the walls so that the rats could not find refuge there and scuttle onto their customer's feet! The samosa chaat was a mess. They reduced the amount of chickpeas, increased the potato chunks, and smothered it with too much yogurt but not enough tamarind or cilantro-mint chutney. Even with all the toppings, they could not obscure that the crushed samosas were soggy and very stale, not freshly fried and crunchy like before. In addition, they added curry to the chaat...who does that!!!??? The chicken momo used to contain a nice juicy morsel of spiced meat bursting with flavor. This time, they looked deflated and pathetic with inferior taste to match. Inside was some kind of mystery meat mishmashed with cheesy fillers that only slightly resembled the yummy fillings of before. The gooey booger-like texture was disturbing, but at least the accompanying ginger-chili dipping sauce was still good. Regrettably, the best part of the meal was the nan, but even these were not as hefty, fluffy, and satisfying as before. I didn't recognize any of the staff that day, so perhaps it's under new management, but that's no excuse! This place has gone from one of my best to worst. It's not just the deterioration in the quality of their food that will keep me away...it's also for the sake of my health! read more

Be prepared to sweat & if you have any type of congestion or sinus issues...their medium spice alone will clear ALL of that crap out! Best of all...they make u feel at home! Try this place. Worst customer service I have ever experienced ordering food. My wife was repeatedly hung up on after the individual handling phone orders could not grasp the fact that she wanted chicken fried rice...he would continuously interrupt her asking over and over, "medium or spicy?" In an aggressive tone. She kept saying she did not want wings with her order? Just fried rice. He refused to listen and when she asked to speak to someone else, he hung up for the 4th time. This is a hidden gem! The ambience is casual but the food is delectable and the portions are more than generous. We had the samosa chaat appetizer which was enough for 4; we ordered 2 and literally just took the other one home. We enjoyed the lamb saag, lamb curry, chicken curry with 2 baskets of garlic Naan which was WAY overkill for 4 people. When they say medium spicy, they mean it. The spice built over time and we finally called uncle. I'm Korean, so I have a pretty high spice tolerance! If you're looking for good food this place is IT! read more

I've been obsess with Nepal lately, mainly cause I want to hike the Himalayas one day. So when thinking about it, I'm like, I never had Nepali food. I have to go try! Kathmandu Kitchen & Grill is one the Nepali restaurants in Atlanta. I believe there is a total of two, the other one being Himalayan Spice. I met up with friends for lunch on a Saturday. The parking lot gets quite crowded. You may have to park a little farther than you want. At least there is no parking fee. Clarkson is a city for refugees. My mom used to be a social worker and told me that because of the public transit and public housing for low income families. It is ideal for refugees to live there. Plus the technical college nearby offer free ESOL classes. From what I understand there is a big Nepali and Burmese population in Clarkson. Both Burmese and Nepali cuisine have Indian and Chinese influences in their food. You cannot go wrong with the buffet because there will be something you like. I just love naan so I could just eat that buy itself. On the buffet, the chicken 65 is the star. It is a bit spicier with Chinese flavors on top. Momos are not on the buffet but I ordered a chicken and veggie version so I could try both. They are delicious! Both came with soup. I preferred the veggie momo and soup. Not anything to get excited about. Very simple buffet; the goat curry, Chicken 65 and black dal were good. Tandoori chicken had a nice smoky flavor, but was too dry. They had plain basmati, and fried rice that was almost Chinese style, vegetable fritters that were almost all dough and no vegetables, and whatever they do to naan definitely does not improve it. Not a good choice for me, but it was $9. So there's that. read more

You can find Kathmandu Kitchen & Grill at 926 Montreal Rd, Clarkston, GA 30021 in small shopping center anchored by the Clarkston Thriftown, just south of where Montreal spits off and turns into N. Indian Creek. Parking is on the lot out front. I found Kathmandu quite by accident while in the area - which is admittedly a bit sketchy with people standing around for no apparent reason in a bit of a rundown area of Clarkston (which seems to have a few areas like that - I used to live across I285 at Venetian Estates off of Ponce so am very familiar with the area). Clarkston is a rather interesting area with local politicians that have some very liberal views (not a bad thing) - it also has a great mix of ethnic refugees that makes it very diverse and international. With that comes cuisine that you won't find in very many areas. Katmandu is a smallish restaurant with only a few tables. There's a bar at one end with beer and wine options and a stage near the entrance that I don't know much about - the appear to host live music, probably in the evenings or weekends. I thought the place quaint if a little dark - I came by late in the afternoon to check out the buffet. The buffet was small but had some great options. Kathmandu is a fine example of Nepalese cuisine - sort of a cross between Indian, Chinese and Indonesian. Many of the flavors will seem very Indian but you'll also find dumpling (momos) and noodle options you don't typically see in Indian or Pakistani food. I find it most similar to Bangladeshi food (like Purnima, Panahar and Himalayan Spice) with naan breads that are a bit puffier/doughy around the edges. I tried pretty much everything on the buffet - I thought the flavors very distinctive and most excellent. My biggest objection to most Indian style buffets is that the food seems very weakly spiced, I guess to appeal to the masses. Her the food is very on-point. I think it's better than the buffet offered Himalayan Spice, Himalayas or Panahar. Overall I thought the food excellent. There was only one person behind the counter and she was very nice. Next time I'll explore more of the menu - but if you're in the area and you want something different, Kathmandu is a great option. (also posted to my food blog) read more

Humble bar/eatery in a strip mall offering South Asian dishes, plus an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Kathmandu Kitchen & Grill has the best Nepali food that I have ever had, very delicious. You could not really identify the difference from Nepalese to Indian cuisine. I will say the area and the restaurant itself is not too appealing to the eye, but the food on the other hand is flavorful amazing savory goodness. Their regular menu is pretty vast, but I was overwhelmed and the buffet looked really great. Service was very chill and friendly. Must try this place if you like middle East/Asian/Nepal food. Especially their Goat Curry made of Goat meat cooked with tomato, green onion, cilantro, ginger and garlic; and their Chicken 65 which are boneless cubes of chicken marinated with deep fried and cooked with sauces, ginger, garlic and spices; both are mouthwatering examples of fine Nepali cuisine. They also have amazing garlic butter naan. The absolute best value is during lunch time, when they have a lunch buffet. You can try so many different things. Then you will know what you want to order next time you come in. Definitely try their Chicken Momos (dumplings) which is made of minced chicken with onion, garlic and Himalayan spices wrapped in dough and steamed; as those things are amazing although a bit pricey for the amount that you get. They do serve Indian beers like Taj Mahal and King Fisher. Generally quiet place, except when they're having music or any special events. A word of warning; their scale of spiciness is calibrated higher than westerners' palates, mild may be hot enough for you. The owner here is very friendly. They do have ample free car parking place in front of the restaurant and in the plaza. Definitely recommend this place and will sure go back again. read more

We had the chicken pakora, chicken momo, chicken 65 along with the biggest samosas I have ever seen. It didn't stop there. The naan basket would feed a family of five. The host was quite, but nice. A few things to know: - there is no atmosphere it's a large dimly lit room with a bar - the food is fresh, so be prepared to wait while it is cooked - it all came out in random order ending with the naan Do this! We went today and it was perfect for lunch; 3 larger tables for big groups, and a few smaller tables nearby. $8.99 for the lunch buffet, I remember these dishes: Meats: -goat curry -chicken curry (with a good amount of chicken breast white meat) -chili chicken (it's red and pretty spicy but not overly spicy, also had good mix of white meat) -tandoori chicken (white and dark meat, laced with onions, yum) Veggies: -green beans (with other stuff like onions and chilis mixed in, delicious) -dal (lentil curry) -peas and potato curry -salad (romaine greens, onions, carrots, very fresh with 3 types of sauces to pick from) Starches: -naan -veggie fried rice (surprisingly good, was seasoned well with something I can't quite put my finger on but I liked it more than the usual Chinese fried rice) -rice (typical basmati rice) -veggie pakora (mostly sweet potato or potato slices fried up) Desserts: -something that looked like a carrot or sweet potato pudding, we're not sure but it was given a thumbs up! Unlike one person indicated on 6/30/17, I thought their water was clean and served in clean glasses. Located in an interesting ethnic neighborhood, I have been meaning to try this place for months and finally had dinner there this week. Service and food were very good. Some items were better than others but generally we were pleased with the meal. At our request none of the dishes were overly spicy. I will definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

I brought my brother and 6 year old daughter and they took forever staring at the menu, the server was patient and answered an embarrassing amount of questions! The food came out in togo containers, because of Covid precautions and we were given cute birthday plates to serve ourselves.
