Lunch buffet. Yummy!
Patrick S.

One of the enduring legacies of our trek to Mount Everest Base Camp is a never ending love for Nepalese food. After a nice weekend of skiing in the backcountry, it's so nice to stop at Kathmandu and enjoy there freshly prepared buffet with a hot chai tea. My faves are the chow chow, chili chicken, samosa and veg curry. The options rotate from visit to visit but there is always a compliment of vegetables and proteins to pair with your naan or samosa. Tons of vegetarians options on the menu as well. The service is always the same. Minimalist but enough to keep you happy. They keep the dirty plates at bay and keep fresh food stocked on the buffet until about 30 minutes before they close for lunch which is around 3pm. We've been here when it's standing room only but they have lots of seating up to groups or 14 so generally they can accommodate most anyone who walks in the door. They have minimal dessert items which is of little concern and they have a reasonable bar selection ass well. Love this place and highly recommend it to anyone who loves Nepalese or Indian inspired foods.

Stopped here for lunch and they had a great buffet! Cost about $20/each. Also a menu to order off. Buffet had a good selection some spicy and some not. Great flavors!! Some of the dishes needed to be refilled, but we got Plenty of food! Everywhere else in Nederland was stupid crowded and this was a great secret spot!

We were driving on the peak to peak highway on a very hot day and decided to stop in Nederland for lunch. Though the town was crowded, we stumbled upon this wonderful oasis which was just what we needed. The restaurant was sparkling clean with relaxing music playing. The service was friendly and attentive. We shared a mango lasso and both decided to get the buffet. It was plentiful and delicious. I especially liked the sweet potato curry, the chili chicken and the sautéed cabbage but everything was so good! It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Another wonderful meal here! We did the lunch buffet, which sounds mundane, but such a huge selection of entrees and sides! Comfortable indoor seating but there's a patio for warm days. Servers were prompt with drinks, clearing plates (sometimes an issue at a buffet) and bringing the check. Definitely worth checking out if you're going through Nederland at mealtime.

A good Nepalese restaurant in a small mountain town seems improbable, but this one is the real deal. With plenty of dining space, both indoor and out (though indoor is more aesthetically pleasing, many people still choose to eat outdoors because of the pandemic). We had lamb curry (a rich dark brown curry) and fish curry (a yellow curry). Both came with rice and had great flavor. As is common in many Indian restaurants (and Nepalese food is very similar), the meat and fish were tasty. The lamb was a little chewy (flavorful, but not prime), and the fish was a fish steak (tuna or swordfish consistency). Both dishes came with plenty of plain white rice. So, for a small mountain town, Kathmandu way exceeded expectations. Compared to big-city Indian offerings, this was pretty standard.

My fiancé craved this place from the moment we planned the trip to Nederland. When we stepped into the charming restaurant, we were immediately greeted and sat down by the owners who were constantly very attentive and friendly the whole time. We only ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer to share, but the menu was ginormous! I have to say everything we got was so so delicious and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. I'm still working on finishing off the rice! That lamb curry was pretty addicting I might have to get that one next time. I also need to try their chai beverages next time! Sounds like a lot of people enjoyed it.

We had lunch buffet. Lots of choices and a couple of desserts.

Delicious food, really liked this Mom and Pop small place high up in Nederland. Party of 8. Everyone liked the hospitality and food. Some coming here for decades. In a small town as a tourist you could miss one of the best little places. Would come back again.

First time in this place and we loved it! Such a warm place with great hospitality. Incredible arrived and super delicious food. I had Tikka Masala with chicken, samosa and panir. My husband had mixed veggies with curry. Everything was so fresh and so tasty. Their samosa is incredible delicious and we had a great rice pudding. Definitely a place to stop by for lunch or dinner if you are in the area! We will definitely come back!

We came for the lunch buffet and it cost $19 per person. Very reasonable for the many options. The food was delicious, only the butter chicken was dry. Service was swift and attentive, and the ambiance was pleasant.

Wanted a cozy dinner on a Friday night after a week of dumping snow, and this place is it! They have a full menu, but also a full buffet the Friday night we went. It was really good and quick and easy. Service was nice and friendly!

We tried:CH beet ricottaNY strip 16 ozJumbo asparagusGrilled broccoliniSmoked salmonChive whip potatoPistachio butter cake Every dish was a hit, clean plates all around. The CH beet ricotta was a bit unexpected, we were picturing more of a salad style dish, so it threw us off at first, but still flavorful. The smoked salmon ended up being my personal favorite, it was perfectly seasoned and wonderfully balanced. Also, the rich butter cake was delicious! Highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekend evenings when things get lively.

I had given it 5 stars then, which I included in an overall review of the Monarch where it is located. However, with this last visit, that was not the case at all. This is an upscale, dimly lit steakhouse, and we had an amazing time trying it for our anniversary a while back. When we went to celebrate my birthday this year, it was a different story. Though service was attentive, prompt and friendly (which of course was reflected in our tip) I cannot give extra stars, as the food physically made my husband ill. He decided to have the lobster bisque, and unfortunately it immediately did not sit well with him. I tried it as well, and it tasted rancid. Being polite, he just pushed it to the side and did not say anything. Then the staff came over a few times asking about the bisque, then proceeded to comp it, which made us even more concerned. I'm a professional chef, and we do not serve anything that tastes or smells even remotely questionable, especially when it comes to seafood. He was ill for hours afterward (and into the next day). After tasting it myself, I could not stomach much more of our very expensive meal. My steak and French onion soup were fantastic in flavor, but I was not able to enjoy much of it, as I also had a nasty taste from the bisque and felt nauseous just from the smell alone. They did bring me a free birthday dessert, which I appreciate. However, I did not get to choose what I was eating. They brought out pumpkin cheesecake. To give credit- I'm sure it was chosen because it's a popular dish, but I personally do not like pumpkin at all. In fact, it makes me gag, frankly. I do however, love cheesecake and tried a bite to be polite, but I did not like it, let alone want it. I decided not to say anything about the dessert they chose for me, since I did not pay for it, and we were trying to get out of there due to not feeling great after the food served. I was disappointed even more at this point, as it would've been nice to at least be able to choose and enjoy my "celebration dessert", especially considering how much money we spent- even less the bisque. Not to mention how awful the experience was due to food poisoning. We will not be back, which is unfortunate considering how great our first experience was. This experience was awful enough to deter us from further visits....

The price is a bit steep at ~$60/person for dinner on the weekends, but the quality and variety of food is decent for the price. First off, the queen of the buffet, or any buffet in my opinion, are the lobster tail and snow crab. When you pay, 2 redemption coupons are handed per person; one for a lobster tail and one for 2 snow crab clusters. Although this may seem like it is not much, it really is plenty of food unless the plan is to only eat lobster and snow crab (please refer to attached picture). The pho station is ok and the prime rib was very salty, but other than those two, everything else tasted great. Service is top notch. Our server checked in on us and cleaned up our discarded lobster/crab remains very quickly and frequently. Make sure to tip your servers even at buffets!

Some pros and cons from our stay (room 1014): PROS: - the promo included lowest room rate and $20 dining credit per day. A genuinely good deal for the price - the restaurant offers on site are pretty decent, varied, and reasonably priced for BH - staff was 50/50. Literally half were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, while the other half was borderline rude or incompetent - the amenities were a nice perk, including a rooftop pool, and two hot tubs (1 indoor 1 outdoor) - the room and bathroom were very spacious with both a shower AND a garden tub - there were public restrooms available in the hallway - the casino floor feels spacious and there is a good variety of slot machines and table games CONS: - Communication in general is very lacking: When we walked into our room there was no literature to showcase on site dining options, WiFi password, or amenities' hours/logistics. The room service menu is not available in the Penn app nor is much information provided about one's stay. We finally found a brochure at the front desk when we went to inquire about where to find a "do not disturb" hang tag (the app live chat was useless for any room information). Room service is upon request only, that info is also not available unless asking a front desk attendant. I requested a Penn play card for gambling, the attendant did not explain how to use it, so it took us two days to realize the card must be inserted in the slots the entire time you play to track usage. You can remove it only AFTER you cash out. - It's extremely frustrating to use the Penn play cards at the machines. We had to constantly try again and again as most readers do not see a card has been inserted. Some machines we completely gave up on... - The room was TIRED (both beds had mattresses which sunk from damage/overuse, both headboards had peeling faux leather behind the pillows, there was random scotch tape on the walls and some holes/dings, the toilet's door jam was coming loose from the wall, bathroom was not extremely clean (heavy dust coating on baseboards, hair on bathroom counter, etc) - Of of 6 elevators to the tower: 4 had broken LCD screens (making it difficult to determine at which level the car would stop), 2 made very concerning cable car noises (we begun avoiding them), all 6 were unsecured (guest key card access on cars was disabled; letting ANY casino patrons access the room floors) - the pool deck has posted adults only hours (daily 7-11pm) however, despite various staff walk through a dozen children were still splashing about at 8:30pm on Friday night - the vending machine on the pool deck was out of service and drinks ordered poolside through the QR code available on tables was not delivered to the pool deck (despite note of location in order) - the ice machine on floor 10 was out of order and no microwave was available in the rooms (or in the vending room) making it impossible to get takeout if one got tired of in house options. A microwave in the vending room would be a great addition - ambient music in the casino was great mid-week throughout until on Friday night at around 8pm it was set to blast and was along with the ambient slots noise it was no longer enjoyable. We left the floor shortly after - wait staff on the casino floor was scarce both on weekdays and weekends. It didn't seem they were circulating much, and when they did come by, they often skipped us (we are not big drinkers, so it was fine for us, but it left us feeling un-welcomed). Interestingly enough, for both drinks I ordered during my stay (handed a $5 bill for tip) I was asked if I wanted any change back :-/ - the floral scent that's pumped through the AC units on the casino floor can quickly become overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I understand casinos do this to cover up odors and have a 'signature scent' however a lighter less floral aroma may be a better choice Overall a good value for us (over low-occupancy days and with a good promotion) and a change of pace for a fun few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living.
