Food was delicious and service was great. Ordered off menu, but heard buffet is really good, too!

I rarely eat Indian cuisine as many of the sauces and spices include ingredients that I am sensitive to (not in a good way) even when they smell delicious. This is one of the local restaurants I have gone to in the past with friends who adored it. The same is true of another local favorite. It is not them, it is me. Recently, at the Yelp Camp Colorado event, I spotted the mango lassi drink samples at one end of the food truck display and the food (bites) were at the other end. Since the table of cups was monitored but easy to grab, with no line like the food bites, I enjoyed a sample. Best flavor Mango lassi I had ever had. Wanting another such drink today, I looked online for that food truck and it was noted that they were associated with Taj Indian Cuisine here in Boulder and in a shopping center quite close to my house. So my husband and I took off to get some to have with some items at home, for lunch. The sign for the Food Truck Tuk Took Bites was still in their window but has some sections crossed off in marker. Not knowing the full story we went in to get our drinks. The place is still beautifully decorated, clean and with lunch diners already eating well before noon. We were approached immediately and made our order. I asked about the Tuk Took Bites connection and was told it had been cancelled 2 years ago. When he delivered our drinks they were darker than the ones at the event and asked if they both used the same recipe. He said no. We took them anyway and drank them, but though they were perfectly adequate, they were quite different. They were a deeper, sharper taste of Mango and I had preferred the lighter, sweeter version I had last weekend. You may prefer either one and I am hoping that Tuk Took Bites Truck will find themselves in Boulder again some time soon. Thanks to Taj for your drinks (well priced and fresh) today. I ordered the chicken coconut curry and naan. Very tasty coconut curry, and the naan was delicious. Price is pretty reasonable for Boulder. I would definitely go back again. Just an FYI, they do use chicken thighs in their curry and I did have a couple of pieces that were chewy/fatty. Doesn't bother me at all, I just picked them out and continue enjoying my meal. I know this might give some people the chicken ick. Looking forward to going back. read more

Had the buffet dinner and it was really good - lots of fresh flavors and hot entrees. All items we tried were yummy. The only mis-step was the chicken entree was over cooked so a little firmer and chewier than just right. Otherwise, service was good and food selection was spot on. read more

Food was the worst Indian food we've ever had. While in town showing some guests Boulder and considering our friends are Indian(Gujarati), we decided to get Indian(or so we thought) food. That was an unfortunate and terrible choice. Food was bland. Pakora was soggy. And Naan was sweet, yes sweet like dessert sweet! Though the food was horrible, service was ok. Great place. Me and my friend went here for the lunch buffet, and were pleasantly surprised. The weekday lunch buffet was only $15 per person before tax and tip. There was a large variety of food, and what I enjoyed the most was the tikka masala, honey chicken, the two desserts, saag, and the naan bread. The bread was freshly baked and just addicting. Best I've had at a restaurant. The service was well and the server was great at refilling water and taking plates. The next day we went back to try the app "too good to go" where restaurants resell food that would have been thrown away. This is the plate we got for $6. It was great! read more

After a whole day of hiking, being just on coffee & a cookie. We wanted to have some good Indian food. By the name it seemed like to be a North Indian Cuisine. Situated in a big complex with ample of parking space available. A+ + on the service, F- - - on food. The worst Indian food I have ever had, Plain bland food, no spice at all. I am shocked by the reviews, just to see that majority who have praised have not yet tasted true Indian food. The dinner was buffet with both Veg & Non Veg food. So was no item tasty? Only decent item was the rice pudding. We had to ask for salt to even gulp down that food. 50$ bill including tip. Having such food on an empty stomach, just sick. read more

The smell of Indian spices greeted my nose as I entered the Taj. The food was authentic and amazing. I ate from the buffet. I wish they had offered just a couple of more choices. I ate naan with tamarind chutney-awesome. Several people at the table had black tea and they loved it. The restaurant was clean and parking is in parking lot below. Bathrooms were clean. They take reservations which is always a plus. Taj offers the buffet and a menu of single dishes. We will definitely be back. read more

Yummo! Best samosas I've ever had. Perfect blend of crispy and flaky crust with flavorful filling. We got papadums with the most delicious green sauce - they called it chutney and said it was a secret family recipe (I love that) that is a mint chutney when mint is in season and a savory chutney when they don't have fresh mint. I am used to mint chutney from other places and Taj's chutney is hands-down the winner! I got some extra to go so I could worship it in private (I may have licked the ramekin...) Honey chicken is so crispy and crunchy in the best way with a sweet honey sauce. Lastly: I got a carrot cake and a homemade hot chai to go and feel really good about that decision because it was ya ya yummy! Pandemic notes: We dined inside and were tucked into a corner. I've been coming here for over a decade and really enjoyed the buffet. Today it was absolutely terrible. Most of the dishes were cold, and none of them were tasty. Naan was really, really stale. The paneer in the palak paneer had clearly been added to the spinach after cooking, for some reason. The samosas were almost tasteless. We had the Chicken coconut curry, lamb biryani, and chicken tikka masala, seriously sooooo delishhhh!! The flavors were incredible, you could taste all the spices, the thickness of the curry, masala was so unmatched + the portion sizing matched the price!! Absolutely no complains! The service was amazing, we were coming from out of state and were running on short time, they were in the process of closing service to prepare for their dinner buffet, they still let us to still sit and eat with such a warming welcome & hospitality!! During my time at CU Boulder, the Taj was always the place to satisfy my Indian cuisine cravings! Right on Baseline, where the old Whole Foods was located, the restaurant was a short pleasant walk from campus. The food never disappointed and the staff was always so welcoming. Walking into the restaurant, I could always feel the family-owned business atmosphere, bringing me back to my own parents' restaurant days. The next time you're craving Indian food and are in the area, I highly recommend checking this place out! They haven't disappointed Boulder in over 25 years and I'm confident that they won't disappoint you either! read more

I've been grabbing food from the Taj since at least 2010, probably even earlier. They are one of my go to restaurants when I'm in Boulder. The owners are like family and the food is always amazing. I usually come for the lunch buffet and walk away having eaten too much because it's all so delicious. I personally have a soft spot for the pyaji pakora and their korma. Don't forget to order the chai because is absolutely fantastic and I always save a little room for their rice pudding as well! read more

Before Covid, my friends and I would love to eat here for the buffet, the food was great and the ladies were super nice, but since they closed the buffet, we've tried to call for takeout a couple times but the man answering the phone is super aggressive. This time he yelled at me for asking questions, then demanded that I pay for the food over the phone when he hadn't even told me the price, when I asked for the price he said "I want you to pay for it now, I want it now." Normally I would, but I don't trust someone so aggressive that way, so I just canceled. Sadly, neither me or any of my friends will try to order from there ever again. Perhaps 4 Star for food, but 5 Star when you consider that it's all available to sample for one price! The dinner buffet has plenty of choices- hot/cold, meat/vegi..., and the price is fair. Second time here. Last time was pre-pandemic, and the experience was good. We visited for lunch last Saturday. Glad they had the buffet open. We enjoy a good Indian/Nepalese buffet. We got lucky and scored a table by the windows, offering a great view of the Flatirons (see picture). The buffet is a bit small compared to other Indian restaurants we've frequented, but each item we tasted was flavorful. As vegetarians this buffet worked well. I think there were only 3 chicken dishes, the rest vegetarian. No dish with paneer though, which was slightly disappointing. One item we found a bit annoying was a push by the restaurant to avoid food waste. There are signs at the table and on the buffet about it. The waitress didn't tell us about it, but we heard her mention it to other patrons that they would charge extra if you didn't finish what you took from the buffet. Can you really charge someone at an all-you-can-eat buffet for not consuming something you want to try but may not like? Conflicted! All in all, the food was great and we'll be back. She said, I just sat a 5 top though so if you want to come in and get it you can! She is so very considerate and we really appreciate how nice she always is when we eat there! Wow, as a Chef myself and hardcore foodie, I give this restaurant 5 stars for the freshness, flavors and service. I had the Chicken Curry, lamb curry, and the charcoal eggplant dish all w coconut milk instead of dairy. Delicious raitas, basmati rice, garlic naan and the meats were so fresh and tender. They also gifted me a sampler of the Aloo Gobi potato dish which was also melt in your mouth and so comforting like all of these dishes were on this cold rainy day. Each dish took me on a journey.... Also got to meet the owners which are such sweet people. This is now one of my favorite restaurants here in Boulder and by far the best Indian restaurant I have tried. read more

Best Indian food in Colorado! I have to commute to Boulder from Fort Collins for work on occasion, and this is one of my lunchtime go-to's. Entrees, like the Chicken Tikka Masala and Fish Korma are excellent, but the Chicken Momos (think Nepalese dumplings) are the real winners. Perfectly cooked with a delicious tomato chutney. I went here for lunch with my sister and our three kids. It really hit the spot for all of us! We splurged by getting mango lassis for everyone and there wasn't a drop left. Our server heard us commenting on how good they were and she told us that they make their yogurt from scratch so the lassis are extra creamy! We asked her lots of questions about the menu and she gave us great recommendations and detailed descriptions of the dishes. I love this place! They are always super friendly and very quick with to-go orders. Although I would recommend going there to pick up instead of using doordash or grub hub because the few times I've ordered that way there'be been issues. The portions are big enough I usually get a second meal for the price of 1 The dishes come with four different dipping sauces and those crispy round chip things which are a fun bonus. Baller ass Indian buffet. They totally kill it and the choices are off the heezy baby! Tandoori, Naan, multiple different rices, chicken shawarma. This place is a total steal for lunch and it's amazing! It's also cheap and the views from inside are kick ass! Like perfect views of the flatties of you sit by the windows.
