Kathy was hands down a great experience. I stumbled on her Yelp page looking for a hair stylist, and truth be told I haven't been to a salon in close to 2 years. Last time I got my haircut (somewhere else) I hated it, and decided I was going to let it grow. But I was in dyer need of a cut and some life back into my hair. Kathy was able to take me last minute, and I'm so glad I went. There was a little language barrier since I do not speak Korean and her English isn't very strong but it was no problem. She took the time to listen to my concerns, but mostly it's almost like she knew what to do for my hair without me fully knowing. Needless to say, I think I've found my new go to. I love my hair, I'll be interested to see how it is without it curled but it feels healthy and she kept a lot of my length. The haircut was $90 before tip. I felt it was a little pricey because I feel like I don't have that much hair, it's just long and super thin, not very voluminous (like my pony tail is super small lol). But I appreciated that she didn't seem to rush the process and just made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. Even making some shampoo recommendations for my hair and scalp. I've been considering trying a digital perm and may come back soon for that (especially because of everyone else's reviews). Not to mention, the salon she is at is beautiful, and everyone is very friendly and seems like a mini family there. When Kathy was blow drying my hair, another gal came and helped her blow dry so she could dry quicker and get to styling. I usually go to Ahrittaum for anything hair-related. After reading glowing reviews of her work, I visited Kathy. Her experience as the previous owner of Ahrittaum shone throughout the entire perm treatment. The result? Kathy straight up gave me my dream hair. Came out just the way I wanted it (see: ref pic and photos). When I got a digital perm last year, the style and volume disappeared within a couple of hours. In contrast, the curls Kathy crafted look almost exactly like those in the reference image I provided and are still going strong days later. You're in good hands here; one can feel the years of specialization in her handiwork. Kathy demonstrated transparency and attentiveness throughout the process, which I appreciated. She informed me that the style could be affected since everyone had different face/head shapes, hair textures, and hair thickness. I used to go to Kathy for my digital perms when she worked at Ahrittaum, so it was such a happy surprise to see that she has her own yelp listing now! She's no longer at Ahrittaum, and took two years off, but now she's back! She rents a station inside Mobe Hair in Diamond Jamboree (right above Tim Ho Wan... take the stairs next to Kura Sushi). Her digital perm is $300 and plan to be there at least 3-4 hours. Kathy is super sweet and did a great job (as always), and really considers hair type when figuring out how to approach the perm. Kathy (the previous owner of Ahrittaum) is back to work!!! I am soooo happy . Since she retired almost two years ago, I tried a few new hair dressers and have been very disappointed each time. No one seems to have detailed cutting skills like Kathy or able to listen to what I ask for. My scalp is very sensitive, and it burns if the dye touches my skin. Kathy layers my hair with foil and protects my scalp. When I requested that to other hair dressers, they just couldn't be bothered to do so. So I had been dying my hair at home for almost two years (since Kathy retired), and my hair was damaged a lot. When I found her Yelp page two weeks ago, I almost cried with joy. I booked an appointment 1 week prior and I was so glad she had an opening for me!! She was quick with the responses! It was my first time getting a root and digital perm. My hair is so flat and straight that I really wanted curly/wavy hair! She really explained a lot of things to me such as the process, how tight the perm should be, products, and how to style the hair. She is so nice and sweet. We chitchat a couple of times. I had my boyfriend in the room and she was very welcoming to him too. She is very knowledgeable and accurate with how long the process would take. There was not much of a language barrier in case anyone was wondering so everything went smooth. She recommended curtain bangs and I agreed! It came out very cute!
