The woman behind the counter is not very welcoming unless you speak Spanish. A perpetual frown as if you are beneath her. I have been going to Kathy's for many years now and I must say it really breaks my heart to see the negative reviews. The pastries are absolutely delicious and while it is a slow service Ms. Kathy is the only one in there most of the time. Sandwiches vary from Cuban sandwich to noche buena. Sweet pastries like dulce de leche, flan or alfajores. Salty pastries such as papa rellena and empanadas. My favorite was the cakes! Oh my the cakes were all mouthwatering. My husband and I walked in and purchased like 10 empanadas because we couldn't help ourselves. The main thing that caught our eyes were the cakes. One in particular was the dulce de leche cake. My birthday was right around the corner so I told my husband he had to get it for me! I was a bit afraid it would be hard or dry but it wasn't! This is a Cuban little gem. You can get a quick bite (sandwiches) plus all the sweets your heart desires. I have been a couple times and been slowly trying new things. The first trip we got guava and cheese pastelitos. They were served warmed and tasty. Our second trip with went for the Cuban and Midnight sandwiches. They are really the same sandwich but just with different bread. We personally like the Midnight more since it had a slightly softer egg bread. We also dived into some more sweet treats. Now they offer a lotnof options with 2 cases fill of pastries, custards and cakes. Only thing that is hard about picking out desserts is mostvare not named. We chose wisely though with puff pastry dessert topped with a custard filling and the coconut guava pastry. We will be back to make our way through the menu. read more

To go: chocolate mousse cake, eclair, coconut flan, vanilla fruit cake. I've seen this bakery from shopping at a nearby oriental market but never seen it open. Then one day I saw the open sign lit and decided to go in. The place was small and could use some updated decor. Unlike other bakeries I've visited, their glass display was completely filled with many different desserts. The mousse cake was very good, light and fluffy. The eclair puff pastry was a little too dry for me and the custard filling had a lemony taste to it. It wasn't bad but I could have done without it. The flan was very tasty but it was too thick in texture. I've also tried other countries flan and I think it's just a culture thing because Vietnamese flan is light. The vanilla fruit cake was a pre-ordered birthday cake for my daughter's third birthday. The owner told me that the fruit filling is fresh fruit and one of her most popular cakes. The cake was light, fluffy and moist. Although the cake wasn't extremely sweet, the sweetener that was used didn't taste like regular sugar. (It might have been but it didn't taste like it.) The fruit filling may not have been fresh as it had an after taste like they were canned. Kathy's bakery has other cake and pastry options there. I may return to try more but the downfall is you'll never know when she's open or closed. The hours posted online/front door are not the the hours by which she operates. I think that's a violation of some sort but I'm not sure because I've heard of a restaurant being fined for closing before their posted time. read more

BEWARE!!! The local news and "dirty dining " should do an inspection here. There are no prices. When I asked politely I got an attitude and was told "two or three dollars per item". We picked out five pieces of different pastries and the total came out to $32. When I asked why the total was more than expected the woman barked at me saying you got cheesecake. I just let it be and left with the pastries. She probably gives different prices to everyone or does this as a scam so people are overwhelmed with the total and just will pay. When we got home we tried them. We were all in such disbelief how gross and old they tasted. Five of us!!! I felt so bad because I gave my little daughter a cookie and she quickly spit it out. When I asked why, she said "Mom it tasted like an armpit!". I smelled it and was completely disgusted. The items looked pretty so I was so surprised as I have never experienced such gross desserts. The food was great, I've been craving croquetas for so long, I'm in college and 300 miles away from Miami. They where really well priced, i got 10 and 2 pastries for less than 20 bucks. They where really nice to me, they where open late because they had an issue where something broke and flooded, but they still gave me the food after I told them I was in a bit of a hurry to get back on campus. I was looking for a private bakery for my mother in laws birthday. She really liked Tres Leche cake and while Publix sells it. I knew it couldn't be as authentic as trying it from here so I gave it a shot! I wasn't disappointed. I ended up buying a vanilla cake. It was already made so I was able to pick it up as a walk in which was such a fantastic plus! On top of the bakery items there were yummy food options as well. The worst service I have ever received in the 20 years of my adult life. If I can give it minus stars I would. I drove 12 miles to purchase pastelitos because I am new to the area and I miss my Miami food. When I walked in, the attendant (Bertha) had just finished cashing someone out and proceeded to the back. There were three ladies already inside sitting in the back I assume waiting for their order. Seven minutes later Bertha asked for my order. There are now two customers waiting behind me. I tell her I'd like un cortadito, two pastelito de carne and two de queso. I then realize there is a posted sign that reads $10 minimum credit card charge. I ask her how much is my order and she replies it is $7 something. I tell her to give me four more pastelitos and two papa rellenas. She then tells me the total is $24.84. I'm taken back at how expensive 8 pastelitos, two papa rellenas, and one cortadito costs. She tells me it's fine, I don't have to take it and she will let me have the cortadito for free. I told her no, I will pay for everything but I will never come here again because the prices are too expensive for what it is. She then started verbally itemizing my transaction and making a scene and belittling me by stating it was me who asked for the items. She then started telling the other customers in the shop how it was my fault for asking for all of the items and further stated that I woke up in a bad mood today and brought it to the store. When she returned with my receipt and CC, I tell her not only am I not returning because of the prices but there should be more than one person helping because not only did I have to wait to be helped but the other two customers behind me have been waiting and someone else had already walked out. She started yelling at me that maybe I should jump to the back and help her since I want to complain about it and what do I care about the customers behind me, it's none of my business. Wow. I was was floored. I told her my comment is so she can let her boss know she needs help. And I walked out humiliated. There was no need for her to demoralize me or belittle me. I never disrespected her nor did I make a scene. My conversation was with her and not anyone else. As I walked out of the store she continued telling the customers how it was my fault for asking for all of the items. I went back inside and I asked if she was the owner. She said she was not. I asked for the owners name and her name. She replied the owner's name is Juan and he is currently on vacation and her name is Bertha. I expect a meeting with Juan because Bertha's unprofessionalism was uncalled for. read more
