But this cute gem that is tucked away you can miss it and I hope you don't! I would be remised to say I don't want to write this review but sharing is caring. The food....whew; made with LOVE! From walking in the service was so great I was greeted with a smile and the server was great when it came to taking my order and explaining the menu to me. I was so confused on what I wanted but I settled with the rice plate and had black beans, yucca fries and pollo à la plancha. Whew the flavors the flavors.....the beans were so fresh, then the chicken (pollo) you can tell how well it was seasoned and juicy from the very first bite to the last. The set up inside made me feel like I was in a Cuban cafe. I loved the vibrant colors in the restaurant. Needless to say I will be back to try more items off the menu! Side note. Decided to check out another location for 1928 Cuban Bistro and try something new. Food--9/10. The steak was a little tough and with plastic utensils and a slick plate on table surface, I almost knocked out my cafe bombon several times. The flavors were good though and the egg was fried perfectly. The torta was as delightful as could be. So crisp on the outside and warm and tender inside. Service--10/10. My order was taken quickly and delivered in an appropriate amount of time. They ensured I had utensils as needed also. Atmosphere--8/10. It's a good location right on Roosevelt Boulevard near the target with ample parking. I only complaint here is this is the second location I visited and the decor of this one feels more sterile and less welcoming. read more

Jacksonville is not a city known for its Cuban food. So for many years I passed by 1928 Cuban Bistro. What a shame as I finally learned what I had been missing: a superb sandwich at a very fair price. It is a very bright and relaxed joint, super clean and staffed by a friendly team keen to help. Rather than go with a Cuban or Media Noche, I decided to try something new, and I am pleased that I did. At the recommendations of the sweet servers, I tried El Guajiro. It is a tasty mixture of flavors and textures on perfectly pressed Cuban bread. In addition to a generous mound of juicy and perfectly seasoned roast pork, this sando also features a spicy Cuban salami, pickled red onions, sweet plantains, and a delicious sauce. Ive also been waiting for the moment to return back to Jacksonville to try this exact spot for a Cuban sandwich and plus that I can have Yuca fries at the same time! I was a happy camper. I've been here three times. Most times i had a fairly positive experience with slow but fine service with great sandwiches. Unfortunately today was a different experience. I ordered a new sandwich that had beef instead of pork. The beef was tough and was hard to bite through while eating. We walked right up to the counter (3 of us) for lunch, ordered 3 sandwiches and 42 minutes later we received our food. Absolutely ridiculous wait time for a sandwich. I love their Cubans but after this experience I will not be back. Wish I could recommend this but this little shop has now made it to my will not return list. read more

Wow. Not a bad place for a 'Cuban' breakfast. Kept it simple and got the '1928 Complete' and a Cafe con Leche. Pretty quick service and wasn't busy. Relatively quiet other than their music choice for the morning. They open at 8am and went on a. Sunday. Did see about 3-4 pick ups though. If you are looking for a good empanada or Cuban coffee I would definitely recommend this place. It's part of a shopping strip near target but it's still a pretty good size. The workers are always moving and doing something, mostly making Cuban sandwiches. I would recommend you call ahead to order as there can be a wait most times. We've been coming to 1928 Cuban Bistro for a little over a year now. We love it!!! Food is always great as well as consistent. My favorite is the Elena Ruth... Oh my gosh it's good. Today we got the Elena Ruth Sandwich and the Cuban Sloopy Joe. We also got two Cafe Con Leche which was amazingly delicious! This place is definitely one of my wife and I favorite places. Stopped by for lunch yesterday. We ordered a Cuban sandwich & Pollo a La Plancha. The sandwich were lightly toasted giving the bread a crunchy texture. They also offered us a free dessert of guava empanada. They also offer salads & lunch platters. Everything was fresh & delicious. Place was clean. Convenient location with easy parking. The restaurant had a steady stream of customers, both dine in & takeout. The servers were very helpful & attentive. Great customer service. I ordered a Mezclado sandwich for lunch today. The picture may be underwhelming but the bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. My food was hot all the way through! The coffee is fantastic and I love the ambiance of this place. There are a few tables inside and some seats at the bar. If you like to sit outside, there are some options for that as well. My usual coffee order is the cortadito. It has that strong coffee flavor but is balanced out by the perfect amount of milk and sugar. My boyfriend always goes with the cortado which we affectionately know as "rocket fuel"--STRONG, but so good. All of their food is so delicious and made fresh. I recommend the croquetas with the green sauce, a medianoche (or any sandwich, really) and some guava and cheese pastries. A recent new item that I tried and really enjoyed was the coco flan. This is the 3rd and newest location for the growing local business, nestled inside a shopping complex close to the Naval Base. They're currently in their soft opening phase, but no glitches were experienced, as the staff were handling the operations like seasoned pros. I ordered 2 of the Papas Rellenas, which is a delicious fried ball of seasoned meat wrapped in mashed potatoes. Simply glorious, especially dipped in the side of signature green sauce. My main of choice was the Sloppy Pollo Sandwich, which I fell in love with at their Baymeadows location. This is a huge sandwich, but I tackled it without a flinch. The soft shreds of chicken doused in their homemade sauce and topped with crispy plantain sticks is a must try if you havent already. They were sadly out of the cheese for their Tequenos and Queso Frito, but assured me it would be back in stock soon. The ladies were very pleasant and welcoming, so a huge thank you to them! It's hard for me to settle down when it comes to coffee. I decided to give this place a try and ordered the cortadito with a tostada y papa rellena. Linda, listen.... This place is LEGIT. The coffee is strong and smooth, the tostada was just like what I used to buy in high school, and the papa rellena was great. The place is in a strip mall and when you walk in, you forget about that. The place is clean, they got plenty of small tables and the perfect spot for you to knock out some work from your laptop or simply enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend. Cuban Sandwich. What else needs to be said? Actually, I do have more to say. I spent a few minutes perusing the multiple types of empanada in the glass case before picking up a menu and slowly making my way to the register to order. The staff was pleasant greeting me and asking how I was doing today. We chatted for a few seconds before I started ordering. I specifically came for a Cuban sandwich but walked out $50+ lighter. I started with a Cafe-con-Leche. Super hot and tasted very good as expected. I followed up with the Cuban, Pork Empanada, and a whole Coconut Flan. The Cuban was super loaded and just danged yummy! I did put more yellow mustard on at home just because I like mine with a bit more than most slathered on the bun. I love the amount of pork and ham and the pickles added just the right acid. BOOM The pork empanada is crispy and not shy on the filling either. A couple of these and a beer is a enough for lunch or even dinner. I really didn't need to eat any more after the cuban and empanada but topped off lunch with desert. I tried flan for the 1st time (that I can remember) and was surprised I really like it ! My family and I tried out this local gem today for the first time. We heard they plan on opening a location in our neighborhood Fleming Island so we wanted to check it out prior to it's much awaited arrival. Words can hardly express how delighted we were with our experience. The service was excellent, the food was delicious (I'll break down what we had), and the restaurant itself was cozy, modern, and clean. Cuban cuisine is one of my favorites, has been for years. I frequent the Miami area at least twice a year and always eat at the local Cubano spots for breakfast and lunch. Today at 1928 Cuban Bistro I had THE BEST cuban sandwich I've ever had in life. I closed my eyes on my 1st bite and thought (with help of the music playing) that I was transported back to Miami. The pork was moist and flavorful, the fresh bread was soft but had that outer pressed crisp. The flavors were exceptional! The congri was top tier. I topped it with some additional black beans (don't judge me lol) and it had all the savory flavors I was expecting. My sister ordered the "Sloppy Joe" sandwich. Which was also very tasty, and the meat reminded me of the filling of a ground beef empanada. Also the plantains in the sandwich were sweet and cooked perfectly. My mom ordered a plate of the pork, with a side of congri. I already described these items so I won't duplicate myself but as you can expect, she enjoyed her meal as well. The Cafe Con Leche was authentic, delicious, and strong like cuban coffee should be. We even got a Tres Leches dessert. Let me be very clear, I DON'T LIKE SWEETS. The Tres Leches melts in your mouth and has that perfect balance of richness and sweetness. When I took a bite, my shoulders dropped, and all I could say was "okay ya'll gotta try the Tres Leches!" I'll wrap it up to say that I will be visiting this and other locations again and will spread the word to all of my fellow foodies! read more

A rapidly growing chain in Jacksonville, the sandwiches and pastry are fresh and really good. The restaurant is steadily busy even on a Sunday morning, but they are efficient and get orders out fast. Love the food but I think the pricing is pretty stiff, $13 for most sandwiches and the service is fast casual. My wife loved the Cuban. I think they could have pressed the 904, basically a turkey blt, a little longer until the cheese at least started to melt. Finally tried this place after hearing many good things. I was at the Tax Office next door, so we swung in to grab a bite. We tried the ham and cheese croquettes, pork empanadas, and the guava and cheese pastries. My son also had the Alfajores which he enjoyed. Everything was delicious. The empanada de lechon (pork empanada) was so good it felt like home in your mouth. All the feel goods, warmth, and soul were wrapped in this crispy delicious crust. My teen loved the Croquetes de jamon (Ham and cheese croquettes). They were lightly crunchy outside and soft inside. After one bite his response was "Wow...wow!" My husband had coffee con leche and the Pastelito Guava y Cheese. The pastry was a perfect balance of light and flaky paired with sweet and creamy. The espresso was a good wake me up. I showed it to the same employee and he told me it's because of the ice machine. " it's just the way it is". So basically they don't adequately clean the ice machine. Nah fam.
